IDP Stock Market: Week 1

IDP Stock Market: Week 1

The NFL and fantasy football season is officially underway.  Fans, coaches, and fantasy managers dance around and are at a fever pitch as they cheer on their teams, with the belief that this is their year. Each week I will bring you the IDP Stock Market to help you understand who you should be investing in and liquidating on your IDP portfolios. So without any further delay let’s get started and away we go!

Investments

Leonard Floyd, LB, Buffalo Bills

Some interesting news dropped yesterday from Von Miller, saying he doesn’t think he’ll be ready to come off of the PUP list for week five. If that’s the case then the stock value for Floyd goes up. Floyd comes over to Buffalo after three really nice seasons with the LA Rams. His ability to rush the passer (29 sacks in 50 games with the Rams) will be needed very much. If he can replicate that kind of production this year, the Bills will be just fine while Miller is out. Floyd is an overlooked fantasy option, as fantasy managers like to look for the flashier names, so now is the time to invest in him. Check your waiver wire or offer a trade for Floyd and reap the potential return.

BJ Ojulari, EDGE, Arizona Cardinals

If injuries have already hit your team(s) hard and you’re scrambling for an EDGE option, then take a look and see if BJ Ojulari is available. With projected starter Myjai Sanders being placed on IR with a hand injury, Ojulari who just came off the PUP list will get a good opportunity to show what he can do. With Ojulari just coming off the PUP list, he’s not likely a highly sought-after stock option right now, which means you should be able to get him cheap. This is the type of buy-low investment with a potential high return are the kind of weekly play stock options that I look for.

Julian Love, SAF, Seattle Seahawks

With the news that starter Jamal Adams is out for week one (shocking I know), you should be advantageous to start Julian Love. Love comes over to the Seahawks from the New York Giants where he developed into one of the league’s best safeties. Last year with the Giants, Love produced 124 total tackles, 79 solos, a 63.7% solo rate, six TFLs, one sack, two interceptions, and five PBUs. A talented all-around safety who can be an impact player. You likely won’t find him on the waiver wire, but with the position being so deep, you may be able to trade for him at a very fair market price.

Liquidations

Isaiah Simmons, LB, New York Giants

I know a fresh change of scenery can be all a player needs sometimes to jump-start or turn around their career, but I am just not willing to make that bet with Simmons yet. I need to see where and how the Giants utilize Simmons and the impact potential he can have for their defense. Simmon's former team, the Arizona Cardinals, just never seemed to understand how and where to use him. If they did, then that tells me Simmon’s is living up to the hype. Until I see significant improvements from Simmon’s I have to advise liquidating his stock from your IDP portfolios. His stock value is already down so anything you can get for him is a plus.

Chase Young, DE, Washington Commanders

This is a stock that we should have already liquidated from our IDP portfolios, but the hope and potential of the new year kept us hanging on. Young has already been ruled out for week one and no certainty beyond that. He suffered a stinger in the first preseason game and hasn’t gotten a clear bill of health yet. I am over players that I can trust to be available regardless of their potential. Let someone else worry about the headache, liquidate this stock, and get whatever return that you can.

Shaquille Leonard, LB, Indianapolis Colts

Just like Chase Young above, this is another stock that I would suggest you liquidate from your IDP portfolios. Leonard is scheduled to play on Sunday barring any late setback. The best possible scenario for fantasy managers is that he balls out in week one versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. When healthy there is no doubt about how good Leonard can be, but again I’m letting others worry about his availability each week. So if he has a big game, I am moving selling what shares of him I still have left.
