IDP Stock Market : Week 11
We start Week 11 this week, and the fantasy playoffs are just around the corner. By now, you should have a firm grasp on where your team(s) stand and what the biggest needs are. Even if you are not a contender, there is still a lot of work to be done. Each week, I will bring you my IDP Stock Market, which suggests which players you should start or invest in, and which ones you should sit out or liquidate. This week, I dug deeper into some stocks you should consider investing in for more advanced types of leagues. Regardless of the type of IDP format you use, I am here to guide you through the process. Let's dive right into some investments and three liquidations that can help your season get off to a strong start.
Investments
CJ Gardner-Johnson, SAF, Chicago Bears
CJ Gardner-Johnson has dealt with injuries, and his conduct has been questionable at times, but when he’s on the field, he makes an impact. He reunited with DC Matt Eberflus in Chicago, and in his two games with the team, he’s recorded 15 total tackles, 12 solo stops, for a 80% solo rate, with three TFLs, three QB hits, three sacks, and one forced fumble. This kind of usage and production will win a lot of games for fantasy managers. The Texans released him at the end of September, and he didn’t sign with Chicago until November. As a result, there is a chance he may be available on the waiver wire (I picked him up in one of my leagues). Check to see if you can pick him up. I would also look into adding him to any trades you make.
Jalon Walker, DE, Atlanta Falcons
I am not as high as most on Jalon Walker, and he’s part of a heavy rotation in Atlanta. However, he is on a hot streak, and the schedule is very favorable as we advance, so there is some good value there for Walker. After a slow start, he has made three consecutive starts and has played 64.8% of the defensive snaps in the last two games. In those two games, he’s recorded 11 total tackles, eight solo stops, for a 72.7% solo rate, three TFLs, three QB hits, three sacks, two forced fumbles, one recovery, and one PBU. It looks like the Falcons are making the transition from the veterans to their young pass rushers, and as long as that continues, Walker should be a solid weekly play. If you have him on your taxi squads, it may be time to promote him, and I have seen him available on the waiver wire in some leagues.
Tershawn Wharton, DT, Carolina Panthers
If you play in position-specific leagues, this IDP Stock Market investment is for you! Carolina Panthers DT Tershawn Wharton has been red-hot over the last two games. Over that stretch, he has over 86% of the defensive snaps in those two starts, with 14 total tackles, four solo stops, for a 28.5% solo rate, two TFLs, two QB hits, and one sack. Wharton has had seven tackles in each of those last two games, and 28 on the season, which is just one from his personal-best of 29. We all know how hard it is to find production at the defensive tackle position, so add Wharton now and enjoy the hot streak.
Liquidations
Carl Granderson, DE, New Orleans Saints
Rarely do I recommend liquidating your shares that are receiving over 60% of the defensive shares each week, but it may be time to move on from Carl Granderson of the New Orleans Saints. Through the first five weeks of the season, he was the starter for the Saints, but Chase Young’s return and productivity have hurt Granderson’s productivity and value. In the first five games, Granderson recorded 26 tackles, six TFLs, and 4½ sacks, but since Young’s return, he’s had just eight tackles in five games. Losing the starting role has impacted his numbers drastically to the point, he’s not a viable starting option. Unless something changes, you as a fantasy manager can’t afford to waste a valuable roster spot on someone not producing. He went from averaging 18.2 fantasy points through the first five weeks to 3.6 over the next five contests. It’s time to move on from Granderson.
Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, New York Giants
The New York Football Giants selected DE Kayvon Thibodeaux with the 5th overall pick of the 2022 draft, and outside his first two seasons, they really haven’t gotten that great a return on their investment. The same can be said for fantasy managers, who drafted and have him rostered. Rumors of trade began to swirl when the Giants drafted Abdul Carter in the first round this year, but he remains with the team at least for the rest of this season. Thibodeaux hasn’t had a sack since Week 4 and only has 2½ on the season. He has started every game and is receiving 71.5% of the defensive snaps, but if he doesn’t start producing, how long does that last? Again, it's always better to get out early than too late when it comes to fantasy!
