IDP Hidden Gems: Robert Spillane, LB, Raiders

IDP Hidden Gems: Robert Spillane, LB, Raiders

If you play in deep IDP leagues as I do, you will notice how quickly the linebacker position can get ugly once the top 20 have been drafted. Digging into those later rounds, there is a guy coming off the board in the LB 50-60 range, who just may take you to the championship game. That guy is LB, Robert Spillane of the Las Vegas Raiders. By the end of the 2022 season, Spillane had taken control of being a starter and playing 100% of the defensive snaps over both Myles Jack and Devin Bush in his final season with the Steelers. Spillane was brought in this year to be the Raiders starting middle linebacker as well as compete for the right to wear the green dot. Denzel Perryman is now in Houston, Divine Deablo only managed 8 games before a broken arm ended his season, and Luke Masterson is just another guy.

Robert Spillane Stats

Stats Provided By: Pro Football Reference

With fellow Raiders LB Divine Deablo soaking up all of the fantasy world’s attention, Robert Spillane is sliding late in drafts or going completely undrafted. Spillane is both a tough and smart player consistently finding himself in a position to make tackles. His pass coverage on the other hand needs refining. He allowed opposing QBs to complete 83.7% of their passes in 2022. If we take the 5 games that Spillane started, he averaged 8.6 tackles per game. If you project that across an entire season and you get 146 tackles. That's a very high tackle total (146 tackles) for the 50th LB being drafted. I believe this makes Robert Spillane a great late-round draft pick and a hidden gem.
