The Moon Landing

0:03 Calorogus Shark Media. Hi. I'm Mark Ellison and today's theme is Moon landing Anniversary, Apollo eleven, Neil Armstrong and the greatest moment in space exploration. Question one. During the Apollo eleven landing on July twentieth, nineteen sixty nine, what name did Neil Armstrong announce for the touchdown site when he reported to mission control marking the exact location on the Moon where they set down? Question two? While Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon, which astronaut remained alone in lunar orbit aboard the command module, monitoring systems and awaiting their return. Question three? Which Apollo eleven device left on the lunar surface still helps scientists measure the Earth Moon distance by reflecting lasers sent from observatories on Earth.

1:06 Question four? Approximately how much lunarock and soil did Apollo eleven bring back to Earth inaugurating humanity's first sample return from another world. Question five. What simple message, paired with a map of Earth and the crews and the US President's signatures was inscribed on the plaque mounted to Apollo eleven's lunar module. We'll be right back with these answers after this break. Welcome back. Question one, what name did Armstrong give the landing site? Answer? Tranquility Base. Armstrong radioed Houston Tranquility Base. Here the Eagle has landed, christening the spot in mayor tranquilitatis. The phrase instantly became part of spaceflight history. Question two who stayed in lunar orbit on Apollo eleven? Answer Michael Collins. Collins piloted the command module Columbia in solo orbit while his crewmates explored the surface.

2:11 His steady watch insured a safe rendezvous for the trip home. Question three which Apollo eleven device measures Earth Moon distance today? Answer? The Lunar laser ranging retro reflector array. The array of corner cube prisms at Tranquility Base reflects laser pulses back to their source, timing the round trip. Let scientists track the Moon's distance to millimeter precision and test gravitational physics. Question four. How much moon material did Apollo eleven return? Answer about twenty one point five kilograms forty seven point five pounds. Armstrong and Aldrin collected twenty one point five five kilograms of samples, including bay salts and breccias. These specimens transformed our understanding of lunar volcanic activity and impact processes.

2:57 Question five, What message did the Apollo eleven plaque proclaim? Answer? We came in peace for all mankind. The plaque left at Tranquility Base bore that inscription beneath a depiction of Earth and the signatures of Armstrong, Aldrin Collins, and President Richard Nixon, emphasizing the mission's peaceful intent. That concludes today's five daily trivia questions. I'm Mark Ellison, and today's questions were crafted with the help of AI technology. See you tomorrow.
