00:00:15 Speaker 1: Pushkin. Hello, Hello, Hello, this is Malcolm Gladwell. Over the summer, I got together on the phone with my friend, the producer Rick Rubin to talk a little music. Rick was on holiday in Italy. I was in Detroit with these guys. By you, Chevrolete, by Chevrolete, if you just give me some of your love girl, Jack White, Brendan Benson, the Rack on tours playing for us on Jack White's sun Porch. And out of this moment comes Broken Record Season three, starting with Jack White and the Rack and tours in the Motor City. Rick and I, along with my good friend Bruce Headlam create a Broken Record as an excuse to talk shop with our favorite musicians and beg them to play for us, and for some reason they always say yes. This season, we're adding a fourth Musketeer. Our producer Justin Richmond is going to be the new voice of the show, Take it Away, Justin. What we try to do for this season a Broken Record is bring you a mix of popular young artists, some who are more established, and also people behind the music like Kenny Beats, one of the most in demand young producers in hip hop and creative. The Broken Record theme song Kenny breaks down what he's learned about the regional sounds of modern rap from Oakland to Memphis and how it's influenced him as a producer. This is what it's inspiring me. It's not getting in the room with the biggest genius ever of all time and then showing me how to make a record to reach a billion people. It's what's happening in this small, small corner of the country that makes those people erupt in a different way than the fans of the biggest art ever. Rick Rubin also spends three days deep in the Italian countryside, but tirely the creator. The first night, I was like, oh, oh, what the I give it to you? Rick is crazy. We're in the woods. We're in the wood, We're in the middle of nowhere. And in New York Bruce Head Them talks to rising British Black country singer Yola about the creation of her new album walk Through Fire and the literal fire that inspired it. Through the Fire I kind of run out and I was like, I think I got away with this someone. I'm gonna have to go back in and you know, fight this. I'm letting you know, I think you're just supposed to shut the door, aren't you though? Are you supposed to fight fires? Yeah, you're supposed to shut the door. I decided to open the door and get my pet snake out of the house and then go back in and fight it. And my personal favorite hundred thousand stops by Rick Studio to talk about why he's released so little music since outcast, and Chow's off his mind. Flute the one who's been spot up playing in airports and Starbucks all over the country. I love it like I have it in the car with me and my lad. When I'm driving and I get to a red light, I pick it up. This is Broken Records Season three. Norah Jones, the Xx, Jason isbel Wild club Gan. They're all in here and more join us. Oh and if you're in Los Angeles, we'll be taping a special live episode will Flee from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on November thirteenth in downtown La. Chatcaserew dot com for more info.
