Brain fog, fatigue, stubborn weight gain, and gut problems that will not resolve? It may point to hidden heavy metal toxicity.

Dr. Daniel Pompa explains how mercury, lead, and aluminum build up in the body and disrupt the brain, metabolism, sleep, and energy. Learn why standard blood tests often miss chronic exposure, how provoked urine testing works, and the real-world sources many people overlook such as dental amalgam fillings, seafood, and early life exposure.

Dr. Pompa also shares a safer three-step framework for heavy metal detox that supports cellular detox pathways, uses proper chelation timing, and prevents toxin reabsorption through the gut.

Could Metals Explain Your Symptoms

SPEAKER_00

Could heavy metals be why you don't feel well? Believe it or not, why you can't even lose weight? Of course, major brain fog, major energy loss, sleep, pain, gut problems that won't heal? The answer is absolutely yes. However, I wanted to do this episode about heavy metals because there's a lot of myths, a lot of pitfalls, and a lot of things done wrong. Most of you watching me know that I've trained doctors for more than 20 years on my detox protocols, but many of which started out of heavy metals. Why? Because that's my story. And I'm going to share a little bit more about my story because in it is a lot of good teaching, honestly. Everything I learned and that I have been teaching for 20 years has been pain to purpose. And I am always saying that I'm not smart enough to come up with it. God allowed me to go through what I went through to be even here today teaching you this message. And if you're hearing my voice right now, I know somehow, uh somehow that you're meant to hear these words. Okay, look, there is a lot of pitfalls around testing for heavy metals. Okay, have you done a hair test? Have you done a urine test? Have you done a blood test? Well, I can tell you all of those tests could lead you with a false positive or a false negative and lead you down the wrong path. Okay, what about the solution? Have you tried Corella, cilantra? Have you tried the little heavy metal detoxes? Have you tried zeolite drops? Have you tried, yeah, the list does in fact keep going on. Well, many of those things could have made you actually worse. Even maybe you didn't feel much of anything when you did them. But what happens is they create more redistribution and they can put metals further into your brain and other tissues. See, so the question then begs to be answered. What do I do? Okay, that's get 20 years of me teaching that. But I I'm gonna make this as tight as I can, literally, uh, in 15 or 20 minutes. So you can literally walk away from this episode and say, okay, I've got a grasp on this. All right. I do want to start a little bit with my story because I I I didn't choose any of this. Absolutely. Um, all of it chose me, or I would say God chose me for it. I spent, this was about 1999, 2000, 2001, 2, 3, 4, 5, uh looking for answers, like many people, right? But back then, of course, we didn't have, you know, the crazy AI. We didn't have chat, of course, we we didn't even have that a few years ago, but we didn't have the internet like we have it. Uh, I literally was find myself in the library on microfish. I just dated myself, and older folks like myself are laughing. Uh yeah, microfish. Yeah. Can you believe you'd actually have to go in there and like, you know, look for data, you know, on these um things, this literally this archaic system of a library that you're just like moving all of these topics on. Oh, it was a disaster, but spent many hours there. I spent hours in bookstores actually, um, just like looking for the right book to buy. And if I thought I found someone that had an answer, of course I'd take it home and you know, read the book. I spent uh lots of time and money traveling the country because if I read somebody's book and thought they had an answer, I would go. And oftentimes within moments, I would lose hope because in moments I realized that uh I probably knew more about their book and their material than they did. Um, or in fact, it was maybe perhaps an oversell. So spent a lot of time looking for answers. And uh I spent a lot of time, you know, really going down the wrong roads as well. Uh my adrenals were fried. I spent so much time just chasing my adrenals because they were, in fact, toast. Why? Because my bucket of stress was full, physical, chemical, emotional, overflowing. And that's when my whole symptoms started. By the way, started with just fatigue. And I was training at a very high level, very busy practice at the time. And I was just found myself flat on my back. I had never happened before. So I thought I was overtraining. Took time off, and I was getting worse, not better. And then the crazy symptoms started happening sound sensitivity, anger, irritability, weird headaches. I couldn't even work out. I couldn't even take too long a walk. So I'd find myself exhausted. So I knew something was wrong. But I chased my thyroid, of course, too, because my hair was thinning, you know, falling out. I was getting skinny fat where I was like losing all of my muscle and gaining fat, which I never had before. You know, but obviously the energy um problem led me to adrenal thyroid as well. And every bit of the hormone stuff I chased. So obviously, this is about heavy metals. At one point, I found Mad Hatter's disease online. What is that? The people making felt hats were using mercury as literally part of the process, and they became known as mad hatters. I had all the symptoms that I just described and more sound sensitivity, uh, heartbeat ringing, uh, buzzing, tinnitus in my ears. I mean, I again, I sometimes even forget, and I'll read stuff that I had wrote a while ago. I'm like, oh my gosh, yeah, I forgot about that. So believe me, I'm just brushing it, brushing it off because um I went through so much, and you honestly, you forget a lot. But life as I knew it came to a screeching halt. Two young boys at the time, a wife fresh out of her mind, not knowing what to do with me, explosive at times. That wasn't my personality, not able to go to work, not wanting to go to work, had no motivation, and feeling sorry for myself. So you can imagine that. At one point, I was literally trying to push her away. If you want to hear that whole story, by the way, go back on my podcast and you'll see an interview that my wife and I did together, and you can hear more details of that. But the bottom line was, and then I always have to say this, you know, in this pain that I just briefly described, literally she'd be on her knees many times. This particular time, God spoke to her and she says as clear as day that not only is he going to get me well, but I'm gonna take a message to the world. And I feel like I can never tell that story without saying that part because uh that to me is the most important part that he chose me, trusted me with this mission uh and the knowledge uh that I've been teaching for you know so many years. But by the way, when she would tell me that, I would get mad at her because I would say, I can't even help myself, but here I sit today. So she was right, or he was right through her. Um, but okay, chased all the wrong things, but it did lead me to some answers. Matt Hatter's disease was the start. But here's the problem. I went and got a blood test, and that test was negative. And I remember because that day I did almost$5,000 worth of blood work, didn't have insurance to pay for it. So it was a ton for me to put out. And he came back and I was hoping he would say Mercury off the chart, and here's what else we found. And he looked at me and said, son, you're healthier than me. And that was not a good day, I can assure you. Um led me hopeless for a while. But here I am a year or so later, and I'm working with a very bright endocrinologist, and knowing my thyroid, my adrenals, and other hormone issues were part of a lot of the symptoms that I had, not the cause. There was something upstream causing my hormone problems, which were causing the symptoms that I had. I hope you heard that. Um, and he said, I think you have some mercury issues because of your up and down body temperatures, and he had a couple other reasons. And I said, you know, I thought so too. And I did a test. And he says, Oh, blood test. No, that would be if you had acute exposure to mercury, meaning making felt hats using mercury every day or getting some exposure often enough that it would be in the blood. He said, it wouldn't be in your blood. It's in and out of the blood in days. So it's very transient. It's in the tissue. You'd have to do something to get it out of the tissue. Why don't you try challenging it out with a water-soluble chelator like DMSA or DMPS is actually what I use. That's a water-soluble chelator, not that important right now, but it pulls it out and it shows up in your urine. By the way, it's still not a perfect test, even though that was the best test, because it showed not only some mercury at abnormal levels, but even other metals that were very abnormally high, like lead, aluminum, et cetera. And so he could tell, and I could tell, that my detox pathways to uh getting rid of heavy metals were shut down and I was accumulating this stuff in my tissue. Now, what we didn't test, because without biopsy, you can't test where my real problem actually was. Write this down. This is important. Most heavy metal mercury, aluminum, where you get those crazy symptoms that I just said here at the top of the show, the problem's in the brain. These are neurotoxins, meaning they go for your nerve system, which this is the control tower right here. I found a study showing that mercury accumulates in the hypothalamus pituitary. That's the control tower in the center of your brain that controls guess what? The thyroid and the adrenals. No wonder I chased those without, you know, much help at all. Sometimes it'd get better and worse. Some things would get actually way worse. But the fact is, is that it was the control tower. And I actually came to that conclusion when I was looking for answers. But when I would address the pituitary that controls really all your hormones, um, I would actually get a lot worse. But when I found the study that mercury can accumulate there, as well as other heavy metals like aluminum, and that can be the problem, lights went on. So when he, you know, we looked at the test, he said, you know, I do think most of the problems in your brain, this test doesn't reflect that. It just reflects your tissue in your body. But I can tell you, if it's there, it's here, and that's your problem. Uh, my next question is, what do you think I got it? And he said, Did you have any dental work done around the time this all happened? And I said, you know, maybe because I had this gold filling put in and I had a silver amalgam filling taken out, which is 50% mercury. Yeah, those dark silver fillings, 50% mercury, outlawed in many countries around the world, except here in the US, which it should be, um, considered hazardous waste when it's not in your body. When it the moment it actually comes out, ironically, from your mouth and hits the dental tray, it's considered hazardous waste again. Oh, but it's safe in your mouth. Whole nother episode we can do on that, on dentistry. And I've done podcasts interviewing dentists about that topic and others. But the fact is, is they contain 50% mercury, which vaporize mercury for the life of that filling. If you don't believe me, for fun, Google the smoking tooth video. That's a 25-year-old filling. Mercury vapor. They rub it with an eraser and you see mercury vapor pouring off of that filling. Guess where it goes? Right into the brain, where it turns to inorganic mercury, which is locked in your brain forever. That was my issue. Not just from fillings. I wore contact lenses in the 70s, 80s, early 90s. Guess what was in the saline solution? Thimerosol. You know what that is? Mercury derivative. Ethyl mercury goes right into the brain, just like the fillings. Exposure, exposure. Oh, and when I was uh a you know, athletic kid thinking I'm all healthy, I was eating a ton of tuna at one time, lived at the beach even eating a lot of tuna. I had many exposures, but guess where the first one was? My mother. She had a mouthful of silver fillings. There's a study called the Drash study, it's a German study. Was the first to show the number of silver fillings in mom's mouth is proportional to how much mercury ends up in the baby's brain and utero. That's where it started. What happens is, oh, and you know what? My mother grew up in the lead generation. She gave me a ton of her lead because during pregnancy, it's very normal to lose bone, but that's where lead is stored, and out comes the lead. If you're my age, age 60, well, even there's a range here on each side of that, 10 years on each side. We all accumulated a lot of lead from our parents because they and us in our childhood grew up in the lead generation. And yes, it is stored in the bone. But the point is that these metals that I was exposed to in utero slowed down my genetic, God-given detox pathways at the cellular level, slowed them down, and impaired my body's ability to get rid of heavy metal, which set me up for the problems that I had later in life. And by the way, that's the way it happens. It never happens right away. And you know what? Looking back as a childhood, I lived a very healthy childhood, home cooked meals, none of the processed, ultra-processed food, I should say, that um kids get today, and none of the chemicals that has exploded in the last 20 years. So I was raised healthy, but I remember having bouts of candida. Oh, guess what? Candida, parasites, guess what? They hide in and around heavy metals. So people that have a lot of heavy metals have a lot of pathogen problems like uh uh candida, like parasites and even Lyme disease. Yes, these those are all opportunistic. So I had these bouts that would come and go. And I remember even having like these weird bouts of fatigue that would come and go. That was the mercury talking. But because I lived a healthy life, I was able to continue to get through it until one day, boom, the bucket overflowed. You know when the bucket overflowed? When I had those two silver fillings. Remember the question from the endocrinologist? Said, Do you have any dental work done the time this happened? Well, those two silver fillings, when he removed them, poured mercury because it wasn't done the right way. There's a whole story there. The gentleman who did it changed the way he practices, by the way. He was a friend of mine. But it overflowed the bucket. The symptoms started just days after that. And I had a cycling journal because I was doing a lot of cycling at the time. And there it was in my notes of when the symptoms started. And I justified it, justified it, justified it, never put it together. But that was just the straw that broke the camel's back, my back at that point, really. And that sent it over the edge. And that led to years of never understanding what the heck happened. See, heavy metals accumulate over time. So, what I'm saying to you, and I I mentioned the bucket. So imagine this glass of water. See that water line right there? I can see it, so I know you can too. Okay, that's a pretty healthy person. Stress it pretty good, meaning, yeah, we all have toxins that have stored up, right? But this person, no problem. See, mine went to right here. Now, if I filled that bucket up more like mine was, meaning toxic stress, and then did that, all over, right? And that's where many of you are right now. Your buckets are full. Physical, chemical, emotional stress, and just a little bit of stress. And you're, oh my gosh, I can't tolerate I can't. It's my adrenaline, it's my hormones, it's this. I can't, it's it must be my kids, it's my spouse. It's we all do that. We all blame something it's not unknowing to us, this is why your body's not adapting. It's filled. So the question you should have is how do I get it to there? How do I empty it? Because this is where I am now, right? Ironically enough, my guy just gave me the right amount of water for the uh for the example. But this is where I am now. But what I teach is how you get it there. And that's cellular detox, uh, meaning you can't just sit in a sauna and get rid of heavy metals. You can't take Corella, Salaunch, all those things I mentioned. You can't take poopers, meaning things that make you go to the bathroom. You can't do those 10-day cleanses. No, remember I said that my detox pathways at the cellular level were worn down. It started in utero and just got worse as I got new sources of heavy metals, the contacts, the silver fillings, you know, a low-grade moldy exposure, all these toxic exposures. And of course, some toxins from the food, the water, nothing like today, by the way. But my bucket kept filling to where one day it overflowed. Oh, yeah. And that's when I thought my problem started. No, it didn't. It started in utero, from the womb to the tomb, but the the solution is still the same. We have to empty the bucket at the cellular level. So the point is, is how did I fix it? I had to fix what was broken. Your cells have pathways to get rid of toxins. If they didn't, you'd be dead. Simple as that. Matter of fact, it is pathways like methylation, glutathione, oxidase. I mean, I could continue to go down all of these different things. The cell membrane itself, the endoplasmic reticulum, all these things are in your cells responsible to get rid of toxins. And when it does, we have energy, we feel good, our hormones work, everything's good. But when those pathways slow down, like happened to me, now you don't feel so good anymore. And it starts with just fatigue, and then it goes to anxiety, then it goes to the brain fog, then it goes to, you know, can't sleep. I've got this problem. I injured this all of a sudden. We think it's what we're doing. I just better, oh, it's this, it's that. Nah, no, no. That's called systemic inflammation. Oh, and it's not just a matter of lacking hormones where you can just take hormones, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, if we're only that simple, right? No, your cells become so inflamed from the toxins that your hormones can't even get into the cell where they have to get their magic done so you feel good. Hormones do nothing in the blood, they actually work in the cell. But what if your cells completely inflamed from toxins? Then they don't work. So it's not about taking more, it's about fixing the cell to get well. That's my saying. We have to fix the cell to get well. And believe me, you can go to my pompa program.com, watch you know, deeper trainings I've done there. And you can follow me on some of the other pages where I talk about these things. But here's what I want you to hear. First step is fixing that cell and getting it upregulated. Second step, here's where people go wrong. Now, you do need chelators to grab these metals to make sure they go all the way out of the body. It's not the cilantra, it's not the Krella, it's not the herbals that people talk about. No, those are weak binders that actually cause more redistribution, as I said at the top of the show, and actually cause more mercury and metals to go deeper into your brain. Very dangerous, not a fan. Here's another problem. You might say to yourself, well, thank God I'm going to my doctor. He's giving me IV chelation, which is a real chelator, but the problem with IV, it puts a ton of chelator in. You didn't fix the cell, you didn't upregulate those pathways, and you go home, and that chelator has a certain amount of time that it stays in your blood and it goes away. And now all this redistribution happens. I made that mistake. Yep. I did that DMPS. Uh, I took a lot at once, even for the test. And I actually felt better when they were giving it to me. And then my world fell apart. I've did that a few times to learn a valuable lesson. I did it with IV glutathione and fell apart. I juiced cilantra because that's a weak binder, and drank a lot of that, and it's just caused a lot of redistribution, kind of like a street sweeper. You know how they just see that plume of dust going down and it settles somewhere else. That's what happens. So from the chelator like DMPS, EDTA, DMSA, those have to be taken in their half-life. I don't want to lose you. What did I mean by that? Meaning you have to keep the levels consistent in the blood to prevent that redistribution. So once we upregulate the cell, you can take different chelators in their half-life every four hours, every eight hours, every 10 hours, 12 hours. Every chelator has a different half-life. But doctors, people, functional med practitioners will just go across the board, make the mistake of saying, yeah, just take it once or twice a day or do an IV. That's violating the principle of half-life. And if you when you don't keep those levels consistent, you create redistribution. You can understand that. That's as simple as it gets. When you take the weak binders, the Corella, the cilantra, the herbal cleanses, when you have true heavy metal issues, they're weak binders. They don't grab on like those strong chelators do and hold on and don't let go. So what happens is they just stir it around. They're weak and they cause redistribution. Either way, big mistake. You have to use real chelators and you have to use them in their half-life. Okay. I train on that. You can find those at POMPA program. I have more training on that stuff. Okay. Third problem: a lot of those toxins are brought to the liver and the bile, where it binds into the bile. That's what your liver produces. It's stored in your gallbladder and it's used to digest fat. Here's the problem it's a fatty substance. So many of these detoxed metals end up in the bile. It's dumped in the gut for digestion. But here's the problem your body reabsorbs most of the bile back to the liver so it doesn't have to recreate it. But think about that. What is it bringing with it?

unknown

The toxin.

Personalising Detox And Next Steps

SPEAKER_00

Toxins. It's called auto intoxication. So part of this true metal detox is you have to use a real binder in the gut. Oh, it's not as simple as carbon. Those can actually be toxic in themselves. You have to use clean gut binders. I developed three of them in my day, but they sit there as a catcher's mitt in the gut and they stop that redistribution. So that is one of the most important parts. So think of this in three steps: upregulate the cell, grab it with real chelators, taken correctly within their half-life, and grabbing it in the gut so you don't auto-intoxicate there and create more redistribution. You see? That's what I've been teaching. All right. Okay, this is a simple podcast. I normally want to draw this out. Normally I want to tell you how that, you know, to take it. But listen, this process is a little different for everyone hearing my voice right now because some people do better with higher doses, some people lower doses. Some people need different cell support, some people need different downstream support, liver, kidney, lymph, etc. So all of that has to be customized. Um and again, this is what I've been teaching. But this is a good news. When you go to POMPA program, I um that is the this is the first time, it's been a couple years now, but that I've been teaching this directly to the public instead of teaching doctors, meaning you can learn the process and you can do it yourself, and that's the goal. But the point is, is that you cannot just take these heavy metal cleanses. You can't just run and do a urine hair test. I didn't even talk about that, but hair tests, it's only showing what your body's ever able to get rid of. A urine test, same thing. In a blood test, I already explained. That's why the really the best test is doing a chelated test, but it's still not perfect because it's not showing what's actually in the brain and deep tissue. Uh, so there's some other tests that we do. Uh, you know, again, I'm I'm trying to keep this simple to get people to understand there is a science around heavy metal detox. Again, I am passionate about it because this affected me. And I want to say this again, too. Uh, the only reason I know this information is because I believe in my heart, God allowed me to put it together in a simplified fashion, because so many people are out there sick, not knowing why. They have deep-rooted, heavy metal issues that started in utero, accumulated over their lifetime. Oh, by the way, my kids who grew up on a perfect diet, doing everything right, had all kinds of gut issues. When they were young, we tested them with the chelated uh test, and they had my wife's lead and got some from me too, I'm sure, but off the chart. And when we got rid of the lead, we fixed the gut. You see, you have to work upstream to why hormones are dysregulated, why the gut's dysregulated, why the thyroid is dysregulated, why the adrenals are stressed, why and fill in the gap. But heavy metals are a huge upstream causative factor, but it has to be done right. I hope I got that point across, no doubt about it. Keep following me on this page for more about why most people are sick and have no idea. I'm about ready to do another episode on mold. Stay tuned.
