Why Humans Are Built To Fast
Dr Pompa 0:00

How many of you do at least five days of a fast in a row? The body starts to think it's starving? Because if it thinks it's starving, it will slow fat burning and it will start burning your muscle. You could get spend $40,000 on natural killer cells. However, I'll give you a cheaper method: fast. Every religious group disagrees about everything except one thing. They even disagree about prayer, except for fasting. His doctors basically sent him home to die. He had already lost over 100 pounds during the fast, and he was already off all of his medications. I believe every human is designed and should do an extended fast. What is an extended fast? Well, I'm going to tell you what that is, how to do an extended fast, I'm going to tell you that as well. And I'm also going to tell you who I think shouldn't perhaps do an extended fast, but I do believe that all humans, in fact, should. And as a matter of fact, one of the top cancer doctors in the world, Thomas Seifried, he made a statement that just doing one extended fast a year decreases someone's chance of getting cancer 97%. And you'll understand more of why that is and why he believes that is. And so do I, when you understand the benefits of extended fast. When I lecture on this topic of fasting, and by the way, I've been studying it since the 90s. So I do date myself a bit there. It was me and some natural hygiene society people, which I didn't have much in common with, except they loved fasting. And so did I, because we're anchoring in, we're harnessing that innate ability that God put in every one of us to heal. And that's what happens during a fast. So that is why I believe every human should, in fact, fast. And we are designed to fast. But again, it's not for everyone yet, right now. So you need to absolutely know that. But I really when I lecture about this topic, I always ask the question how many people in the room fast? And literally, the last lecture I did last weekend, 90% of the hands went up. And then I asked this question how many of you do at least five days of

When Intermittent Fasting Backfires
Dr Pompa 2:15

a fast in a row or more? And then in this particular room, five hands went up. Because, see, most people today are daily intermittent fasting, where they fast, maybe they miss breakfast, fast through the night, miss breakfast, and they're eating maybe in a six-hour window, which is an 18-hour fast, or maybe it's a 14-hour fast. That's called daily intermittent fasting, intermittent fasting, uh, short of that term. But most people, many people are doing that with great results. I will say this. There needs to be some adjustments made because people get results when they do that type of fasting. But I can say this, then they start doing it too often, too much. They start eating maybe in a four-hour window, even one meal a day, every day, or maybe it's in a six hour window every day. The problem with that is the body starts to think it's starving and it starts to hold on to your fat for two different ways. It can create a non-disease insulin resistance to slow fat burning. Why? Because if it thinks it's starving, it will slow fat burning and it will start burning your muscle. And I can tell you that I can see the people who are doing that, meaning fasting too much versus people who are fasting more correct. So that's one way it stops fast uh fat metabolism, but also it will even push water cells in the fat cells. So then we get this loose fat and we get obviously losing the muscle. I call it skinny fat. But either way, the body thinks it's starving and slows down fat metabolism and it becomes bad for you. So I'm very against uh the way people are daily intermittent fasting. And one of the things that I teach and look out for future episodes on this is uh what I call feast famine cycling, meaning we imitate what ancient cultures did. When they had food, boy, they ate. When they didn't, they fasted. Um, they uh went into a famine, but also doing it uh weekly. So most people that are intermittent fasting daily need to add feast days in. I would say everybody, everybody hearing my voice, if you're intermittent fasting, needs one feast day a week. What does that mean, a feast day? That could be eating three, four meals in a day, Saturday or Sunday. Uh, that could be if you're low carb, eating high carb, make it healthy. Um, that could be also increasing your protein and eating more meals in a day. That's called a feast. It reminds the body it's not starving. It fires up the fat burning machine again. And in my doctor training group, we've proven this out. The day after a feast, you see, and we're looking at ketones, which is a sign of fat metabolism. I mean, if you're breaking down fat, we see ketones rise. The day after we see a little lower ketones, two days after, we see this massive rise in ketones, signaling or showing us, proving to us that we are burning fat, and that can last even for two or three days, where the body's burning so many fat, uh, so much fat for energy that the ketones rise. Okay, why? Because it knew. Hey, we're not starving. We can start burning fat again. It works. It absolutely works. So that is my advice on intermittent fasting daily. But I want, and by the way, I'll say this women in perimenopause, anyone having hormone issues, thyroid issues, postmenopausal women, women in general oftentimes need more than one feast day, sometimes two, sometimes three, and they all of a sudden start tapping in and getting much leaner. By the way, the bodybuilders figured this out years ago because for a contest, what did they do? They actually carbloaded. They feasted two days before a competition and come in just absolutely shredded because that last layer of fat that their body would hold on to because it would think it's starving, it would just tear into that and they would come in vascular. So this isn't something new. It's a biohack with fasting. And once you learn it, you'll never fast that way again. But let's go right back into the extended

Autophagy And The Cellular Reset
Dr Pompa 6:20

fast. Why do I believe that every human needs it? Because it resets our DNA. It resets everything in our body, it resets our gut, meaning when we have this time that we're not eating or eating very small, which is called a partial fast, our body goes through a reset. Listen, the stresses of life, physical, chemical, or emotional, turn on bad genes, genes that could be Hashimoto's, thyroid conditions, autoimmune, um, diabetes, any autoimmune condition for that matter. Genes get turned on. Fasting is a way to turn them off and not just turn off the bad ones, but reset and turn on the good ones for longevity and health and healing. So that's one reason why I believe all humans are set up and meant to fast, right from our DNA. But there's another reason. It's called autophagy. The 2016 Nobel Prize was won by a Japanese gentleman who won it for understanding and discovering autophagy. What happens during a fast? Where does our body get all this energy when we're fasting? And why does it heal? Well, he believes, and I believe it's the autophagy, meaning the body eats during a fast to get energy and water. It will eat not good cells, but bad cells. Cells that we call zombie cells, aka senescent cells. These are cells that age us prematurely, live too long, drive chronic disease through inflammation, cause problems in the body, lead to almost all chronic disease. The more of these cells you have, the faster you're aging and the worse you feel. So, yeah, obviously, the lower we can get these senescent cells, the better we feel. But here's the problem: the older we get, then the more senescent cells we actually have. So, what can we do to lower that? Well, you could get spend $40,000 on natural killer cells and an IV of your own natural killer cells, expanded in a lab and put back in you. Um, okay, yeah, you're probably not going to do that, although that does lower senescent cells. I've actually done it and I was part of a study for that. However, I'll give you a cheaper method. Fast. That's right. When you fast, you're getting rid of the bad cells. Your body spares the good cells. But here's here's the best part. So imagine this. Most of the reason why people don't feel well is they have some immune cells that are hyperactive. Of course, it causes food allergies, allergies in general, and also leads to autoimmune. A lot of people have autoimmune that don't feel well, unknowing. Their body's just working against them. I should say their immune system. Well, this autophagy, your body goes after these bad immune cells first. Oh, also, you make energy in your mitochondria. You've heard a lot about the mitochondria is why people age. Why mitochondria is, you know, why people age slower or faster. It's how you have energy, feels good. It's your brain's working good. That means you have good mitochondria. If you stay lean old, that means you have good mitochondria. Well, guess what? Atophagy, it's actually in the scientific literature, it's called mitophagy. You know what that means? Your body gets rid of the bad mitochondria, the bad cells, and you de-age. That's ultimately what's happening during a fast. See, that happens a little bit in daily intermittent fasting, but it happens a lot in extended fasts. We need to renew ourselves. We need to renew our cells to renew how we feel, to renew our immune system, to renew our mitochondria and how our cells make energy. But here's something it's so cool. It's already cool enough that it only gets rid of the bad and it spares the good. But it's stimulate every time it gets rid of one bad cell, it stimulates a stem cell and replaces it with a new cell. This is like getting rid of the bad uh, you know, workers, you know, that stand around on their shovels. These are the um the old um, uh, we used to call them the pen dot workers in Pennsylvania, meaning they're working for the government, leaning on their shovels, and they did a lot of nothing. They worked probably to an hour or two a day. Um, okay, we're getting rid of those guys and we're bringing in the young studs that do all the hard work. That's what happens. Matter of fact, there's been studies showing um what happens in the immune system. As we get rid of these hyperactive old immune cells, we're recreating what they call in the studies a naive immune cell. That means one that's not hyperactive, that is ready to do good work. It's ready to go after the bad guys at a much higher level and it's sparing yourself. It's not attacking your tissue. So when we do several extended fasts, maybe it's five days this month, five days the next, five days, maybe for three or four months in a row, man, magic happens, especially for autoimmune in very difficult conditions, because with each fast, the body gets more efficient. It drives healing at a deeper level. And with each fast,

Seminar Invitation And Healing Benefits
Dr Pompa 11:15

you get rid of more and more bad cells and create more and more good cells. Join me live in Houston in October 16th through the 18th. First time ever, doing a public seminar for 20 years, doing doctor seminars. That's why I'm really excited about this. Look, for my followers, people looking for an answer, want to know more about mold illness, want to know more about heavy metal toxicity, want to know more about hormone conditions, thyroid conditions, and even find what's wrong with you. Well, that's what we're doing at the seminar. Oh, yeah, you're gonna take the very test, something called a visual contrast sensitivity that can look for something called biotoxic illness. You're gonna fill out our AI version of our neurotoxic assessment that all my doctors use. Okay, because we're going to involve you in the discovery. Why? Because people are looking for answers. So I said, if I'm doing a seminar, I want people to experience what I do, what I've been teaching. And look, of course, we're gonna have amazing teachers. We're gonna have breakouts on these topics, right? You're gonna hear breakouts about weight loss resistance, health in children, you're gonna hear breakouts about mold, how to build homes safely, what you need to do in your home to make it safe. We're gonna be blowing the lid off of some of these topics that really nobody's talking about is causative factors for why so many people are sick. I'm gonna put a link below. All the details are there, but it is October 16th through the 18th in Houston. People are flying in from all over the world. So can you. Look, you want answers, uh answers that you're never gonna hear in another seminar. Come to this one. You're gonna be blown away. Check it out. Can you believe there's other benefits to this fasting? One of which is called energy diversion. That means your body literally diverts the energy it would take to, you know, really digest all the food, assimilate all the food. And that takes a lot of energy, by the way. But it takes that energy and diverts it over to things that need heal, that it felt like it didn't have the energy because you were already just trying to get through a day. Remember, survival is your body's number one priority. That's why your body will go into a survival mode and it won't burn fat anymore. But survival is number one. So when it goes into that survival mode, well, bad, bad things happen. But the the point is this is that fasting obviously kicks it out of that survival mode, but it it literally starts to reset everything in the body, including the immune system. But that energy, it diverts it to healing. And that's what we want. And that happens in there. So the DNA gets reset. Your autophagy, you get rid of the bad cells, you create new, you have all this happening. It diverts all your energy into things that wouldn't heal. And now you're able to heal. And yet there's more. Your gut resets. So everybody's trying to do this for the gut that won't heal that. And we know it has dysbiosis, too many bad guys, parasites, candida. Well, guess what happens during a fast? You starve down all your viruses, bacteria, fungus, and your good guys. But here's what happens: all bacteria comes down. But when you break a fast correctly, what happens is that you're able to repopulate the good guys. So you correct dysbiosis. So magic. And also the gut simply just resets. Also, you hormonally optimize during an extended fast, meaning your cells start hearing your hormones better. If it were only so simple as to um take hormones, yeah, you make blood levels normal, but most often people don't feel better. They don't lose weight um like they should. They start maybe in the beginning, but it stops. So what we really need to do is fix the cell where the hormones have to get in the cell. And that's what makes us feel well. That's what makes us stay lean. That's what makes our brains work and have energy that lasts through the day. But here's the problem that if our cells can't hear the hormones, they don't get in the cell. Taking hormones, it makes your blood levels normal, but it doesn't do anything for the actually the hormones getting in the cell. But that's where fasting comes in, because you actually get the cell to be more sensitive to the hormones. Now, very, very toxic people, we have to deal with the toxins at the cellular level. That's my cellular detox, something I've been teaching for many years. But we want the cells to get more sensitive. So all of that happens in a fast. Now you can better understand why I believe every human needs this reset. Every human needs to get out the bad and start new again. So imagine what we said just by doing one fast a year extended. Imagine if you did two. And for people with greater challenges, oftentimes we do progressive fasts, uh, obviously

Partial Fasting Rules And Safety
Dr Pompa 15:55

for um reasons of deeper healing. So, okay, but let me give you some how-to. Uh, I think it's important that most people listening to my voice right now start with what we call a partial fast. That means you're still eating because fasting is a stress. And most people metabolically aren't healthy enough to actually burn enough fat to get them through a fast. So, therefore, my recommendation is a partial fast. Many people that are on medications, you always should check with your doctor first because when you're in a fasted state, you need so much less of those medications. So please take note of that. But a partial fast is safer for people who are on medication as well. What is a partial fast? Under a thousand calories a day, and this is important, under 20 grams of protein. The bigger you are, you might be able to do 1200 calories. The smaller you are, you might have to do 800 calories a day. If you're small, you might have to do 15 grams of protein a day. But the decrease in protein and calories allows us to still do that autophagy thing where the body's getting rid of the bad cells. If you increase your protein, as an example, you will knock yourself out of autophagy. So partial fasting is amazing. Uh, a gentleman named Dr. Valter Longo showed that partial fasts in most people, actually, you get more autophagy. Now, again, I think if you're used to fasting, if you're very healthy metabolically, a pure water fast, I think you can get actually even more autophagy.

Why Five Days Is The Sweet Spot
Dr Pompa 17:25

So Valter and I may disagree on that, but I have all the respect for him. But he did a study. And what they did is a five-day, and by the way, when I was studying and I started experimenting with fasting in the 90s, I found that a five-day fast, I said there was magic in the number. I've I found that a five-day fast worked the best because it takes most people to feel good three or four days. By day four, they break through and go, oh my gosh, I feel amazing. I feel like I could just keep fasting. Well, we realized what was happening. People hit what we call max autophagy, meaning the maximum time that it, you know, where they're crushing all these bad cells. That doesn't happen for most people until day three. So I learned to ride that out for another day or two. And five days became a sweet spot. And I found that most people going over five days, they didn't get a lot of better results. So five days was doable. But Voltrongo proved that five days is a sweet spot, that max autophagy does happen typically around day three. And we get a maximum growth hormone rise at day five. So we carry it through to day five. Now, oftentimes, do I tell people to fast longer? I do.

Long Fast Stories And Breakthroughs
Dr Pompa 18:35

I had a gentleman actually come to one of my seminars early on, get this. He was morbidly obese. Keep that in mind. So don't try this at home. But he was on 121 days of a pure water fast on 14 different medications before he started the fast. His doctors basically sent him home to die. He had already lost over 100 pounds during the fast, well over. And he was already off all of his medications. Now he was doing this with his doctor's supervision because they didn't know what to do. So they were like, go ahead. And they were measuring his blood, they were measuring his markers and astounded that he was getting healthier by the day. Every marker of inflammation, every nutritional marker was improving. And they were like, How is this happening? Are you taking supplements, vitamins? He said, No, I'm just drinking water. In the beginning, he was taking some electrolytes. He was doing some sea salt. That was it. And by the way, if you're doing a pure water fast, that's my recommendation. Two teaspoons of sea salt a day to maintain your electrolytes, because in the beginning, especially, you start dumping glucose in a form of what we call glycogen, and you lose electrolytes and that can zap your energy. So taking electrolytes or an electrolyte powder with no sweetener is what I like during a pure water fast. Supplements, I say put on hold pure water fast. If you're doing a partial fast that I mentioned that most people you should start with, I say keep doing your supplements if you desire or take some time off. That's okay. But still, you need the electrolytes, even in a partial fast. But the water fast, the electrolytes help. So this gentleman came to the seminar 121 days in, off all his medication, feeling amazing. But I was lecturing on how to know when to break a really long fast. And after he heard me, he said, you know what? I think I'm ready to break it. I have all of those signs that you said my body is looking to break a fast. And so I think six days later, he went home and he broke the fast, but changed his life and changed his life forever. I had a woman early on come in. She had a grapefruit-sized tumor. This was when I first started studying fasting. And she just came in and said, I have a non-operable uh tumor, the size of a grapefruit. What would you do, Dr. Pompa? I was like, that's easy. Fast. I handed her a book, I think two. And she came back like two days later and read it and said, I started my fast. So she ended up fasting 26 and a half days. She shrunk the tumor all the way down to the size of a golf ball. She waited a month or two. She did another fast and shrunk it to nothing. And I'm telling you, I could tell you story after story of how fasting, extended fasting in particular, changed people's lives. My wife has her story. I'm telling you, I can go on about the physical

Fasting For Faith And Prayer
Dr Pompa 21:26

reasons of why fasting is so powerful. But from a spiritual perspective, our family, we have used it. When we're up against something much bigger than us, I'm about ready to do another fast, by the way, um, for that reason. What you do is you get on your knees and you start a fast. Matter of fact, the Bible says that some things prayer is not enough. We have to fast and pray. One of my favorite chapters is 2 Chronicles chapter 20. King Josephus had three armies much bigger than them coming out of the north. And what did he do? Because they were going to be demolished. He called all of Israel to fast. And that's what they did. They got on their knees, they prayed, and they fasted. That day, God sent uh through the um the priest at the time a message saying, You will not have to go out and fight tomorrow. Be strong and courageous. Do not fear. I have gone before you because it was much bigger than them. They brought God involved in those armies, three armies, turned on themselves. And I believe that can happen to you too. And I could tell you very specific times. Matter of fact, one time where my wife woke up in the middle of the night and God said, fast. And it was for one of my children. And we did. We fasted and we had a group of people fasting and God moved. So I believe that can happen for everybody. Listen, every religious group disagrees about everything except one thing. They even disagree about prayer, except for fasting. Fasting, I'm telling you, if you're up against something bigger than you, maybe it's for a family member, a loved one, a relationship, or someone else's who's sick, watch what God can do in a fast. I'm telling you, it brings us into a spiritual, when we are weak, he is stronger. And I believe that's why, one of the reasons why it moves the hand of God. So try it. Try it for physical reasons, try it for spiritual reasons. But I'm telling you, fasting has changed my life. I have watched fasting break through the impossible. When people tell me I have this and it's impossible, no one could figure it out. No, doctor, I have done everything. My next words are fast. Not partial

Dry Fasting Plus What To Avoid
Dr Pompa 23:40

fast, but an extended fast. And again, many of you may start with a partial fast. But here's also, I said mentioned dry fasting. And I do want to say a little bit about that. When I do a five-day water fast, I start with two days of dry where you don't drink water. A couple religious groups, they do a two-day dry fast. What happens during a dry fast? You need water to live. And we believe that you can't go more than three days without water. Well, that's not true because the body will get water from these bad senescent cells. Matter of fact, it will crush fat cells to get water. And in a dry fast, you get three to one autophagy, meaning you're getting rid of three times the amount of bad cells during a dry fast. So I do two days of dry and then I move in to three days of water. But look, I didn't mention a three-day fast because most people, it takes three days to get into max autophagy. So for most people, three days, don't advise it. Go with the five and even get the growth hormone rise. But I will say that someone like myself who fasts all the time, I can do three days because I hit max autophagy in two days, but I will still do a day or two of dry to get more of that autophagy. So that's dry fasting. What about juice fasting? Not a fan because juice raises glucose, glucose shuts down autophagy. What about um uh bone broth fasting? I'm a fan, um, but you have to be careful with the protein. You don't want to rise over 20 grams of protein. So you have to account for that. So there's the types of fast. Um, do I recommend that pregnant women fast? Absolutely not. Uh, do I recommend um that people that have eating disorders fast? I would say absolutely not. So now, if those uh you know things weren't the case, I still believe in my heart that humans are meant to fast. Those are extraordinary situations. Um, but for the most part, yeah, I believe

Final Challenge And Key Warnings
Dr Pompa 25:35

most people can fast and should fast, but start with a partial fast. If you're on medication, check with your doctor. There you have it, challenge you to the fast. Oh, and in the fast, get on your knees, because I did this and ask God if he is for real. Ask God what he you know wants in your life, his will for your life. Watch what happens during the fast. There you have it.
