What’s Cooking? (2000): Thanksgiving, Culture and Family

What’s Cooking? (2000): Thanksgiving, Culture and Family

Henrique Couto and David Denoyer gather around What’s Cooking? (2000), Gurinder Chadha’s Los Angeles Thanksgiving ensemble drama, co-written with Paul Mayeda Berges. Joan Chen, Mercedes Ruehl, Alfre Woodard, Lainie Kazan, Julianna Margulies, Kyra Sedgwick and Dennis Haysbert lead four interconnected households: the Vietnamese American Nguyen family, the Latino Avila family, the African American Williams family and the Jewish Seelig family. Each prepares the same holiday through its own traditions and relationships.
The film crosscuts among parents, children, partners and grandparents carrying conflicts into dinner. The Nguyens face generational strain and a son’s dangerous secret; the Avilas negotiate separation, new relationships and a child’s hope for reconciliation. The Williams household confronts political, educational and marital tensions, while Rachel and Carla bring important news to the Seelig gathering. The episode treats every family as specific and multidimensional rather than reducing cultural identity to decoration.
Henrique and David linger over the food montage: turkey shares the table with tamales, rice, dumplings, chili sauce, macaroni and cheese, polenta and other dishes shaped by each home. They admire how music, editing and preparation connect the families before the characters recognize their own proximity. A frightening gunshot eventually reveals that all four households share one intersection; nobody is injured, and the aftermath opens space for honesty, hospitality, forgiveness and new connections across the street.
The hosts discovered the movie unexpectedly during one of their Thanksgiving marathons and were immediately struck by the third-act reveal. They discuss Chadha’s fluid movement between a large cast, the film’s opening-night place at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival and performances that make many simultaneous storylines easy to follow. The stacked ensemble and richly photographed meals turn a potentially complicated structure into a warm, funny and emotionally alert holiday mosaic.
Both hosts give What’s Cooking? a “buy it.” Henrique praises its rare celebration of varied American family experiences without becoming jingoistic or saccharine, while David highlights the performances, writing and satisfying convergence of every thread. Their recommendations continue the family-holiday theme with The Family Stone, The Oath and Almost Christmas.

1
00:00:07.040 --> 00:00:10.199
This is the story of four families.

2
00:00:11.480 --> 00:00:17.399
And one meal to kidding. She's the mommy, She's the daddy,

3
00:00:17.679 --> 00:00:20.600
and I'm the alcoholic, cult worshiping.

4
00:00:20.160 --> 00:00:21.280
Satanic stepmother.

5
00:00:21.440 --> 00:00:27.559
We're playing Thanksgiving, each with its own distinctive flavor. Why

6
00:00:27.559 --> 00:00:28.000
do you want to.

7
00:00:27.960 --> 00:00:29.719
Make the turkey taste like everything else?

8
00:00:29.760 --> 00:00:31.960
We simmering with its own joy.

9
00:00:32.200 --> 00:00:34.119
I'm pregnant.

10
00:00:35.320 --> 00:00:37.920
You're a lesbian. What do you say?

11
00:00:38.479 --> 00:00:41.880
Rachel is a lesbian, you know, like Ellen love? My

12
00:00:42.000 --> 00:00:44.159
mommy is a boyfriend feeling strong?

13
00:00:45.079 --> 00:00:46.520
Yeah good.

14
00:00:46.759 --> 00:00:48.439
This is my daughter Gina.

15
00:00:48.520 --> 00:00:51.640
And I'm Javier, her ex husband in pain.

16
00:00:51.840 --> 00:00:53.679
What's your fault? He's not coming, Ronald.

17
00:00:54.280 --> 00:00:56.320
This is Thanksgiving. We'll get through this.

18
00:00:56.719 --> 00:00:58.679
I guess you can't call yourself a family. If someone

19
00:00:58.799 --> 00:01:01.359
isn't speaking to someone else, it's too late because I've

20
00:01:01.399 --> 00:01:03.640
asked him, though, No, you're just going to have done

21
00:01:03.679 --> 00:01:05.799
ask him and ask him.

22
00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:07.599
That's it been.

23
00:01:07.719 --> 00:01:10.200
Your turkey is.

24
00:01:13.640 --> 00:01:15.799
Still p that's not done.

25
00:01:16.480 --> 00:01:18.159
Thanksgiving is easiest meal for me.

26
00:01:19.719 --> 00:01:24.120
Just take that turkey broad in the oven and the

27
00:01:24.159 --> 00:01:25.120
rest will cook itself.

28
00:01:27.159 --> 00:01:34.719
Chicken this Thanksgiving, give thanks on.

29
00:01:35.200 --> 00:01:37.519
My favorite part about Thanksgiving is knowing I can eat

30
00:01:37.519 --> 00:01:38.079
this tomorrow.

31
00:01:38.280 --> 00:01:39.000
Give grief.

32
00:01:39.840 --> 00:01:41.719
If I had a dollar for every time Ronald said

33
00:01:41.760 --> 00:01:43.640
y'all was coming, I'd be as rich as Oprah.

34
00:01:43.799 --> 00:01:44.400
Give in.

35
00:01:46.799 --> 00:01:52.680
And get out as quick as you can. What's cooking?

36
00:01:53.840 --> 00:01:54.920
What would you like for dessert?

37
00:01:54.920 --> 00:01:57.560
Would you like some flun some FLYE want my wife

38
00:01:57.599 --> 00:02:01.879
and children back? And you coming the stuffed with misgivings.

39
00:02:01.920 --> 00:02:03.439
Make sure it goes all the way in the back.

40
00:02:03.519 --> 00:02:05.079
Oh that's my favorite part.

41
00:02:06.599 --> 00:02:12.159
Starring Jon Chen, Juliana Margales, Mercedes Rule, Carris Edgewick, and

42
00:02:12.199 --> 00:02:12.960
Alfrey Woodard.

43
00:02:13.479 --> 00:02:15.879
What's cooking?

44
00:02:16.039 --> 00:02:16.120
Me?

45
00:02:16.240 --> 00:02:19.479
So I can give your daughter some wonderful advice. Maybe

46
00:02:19.479 --> 00:02:22.199
it would help if you changed your hair something, maybe

47
00:02:22.240 --> 00:02:23.400
a little more glamorous.

48
00:02:23.400 --> 00:02:26.919
Oh yeah.

49
00:02:27.599 --> 00:02:34.000
In a world where podcasts reigned supreme, Two friends dare

50
00:02:34.080 --> 00:02:34.960
to ask.

51
00:02:36.560 --> 00:02:37.680
Do You Even?

52
00:02:37.919 --> 00:02:39.719
Movie?

53
00:02:43.280 --> 00:02:49.479
Hosted by filmmaker Enrique Kuto and movie officionado David de Noyer.

54
00:02:56.199 --> 00:03:05.199
Spoiler alert, Welcome back to Do You Even? Movie? I'm

55
00:03:05.240 --> 00:03:10.039
your host Enrique Kuto here with my co host David Denier. Greetings,

56
00:03:10.280 --> 00:03:15.599
and we are all about the Thanksgiving season, Yes, and

57
00:03:15.759 --> 00:03:19.680
we are heading into it with a third Thanksgiving movie,

58
00:03:19.800 --> 00:03:20.439
The Count That right.

59
00:03:20.520 --> 00:03:22.680
Yes, you are correct, Kenna, and I think this is

60
00:03:22.840 --> 00:03:26.000
probably we've said two big favorites so far, but I

61
00:03:26.000 --> 00:03:29.400
think this is one that absolutely just breaks the mold

62
00:03:29.400 --> 00:03:30.759
for a perfect Thanksgiving film.

63
00:03:30.840 --> 00:03:36.039
Yeah, no, I would say so. So Yeah, uh, What's

64
00:03:36.120 --> 00:03:39.319
Cooking from two thousand? That is correct a movie that

65
00:03:39.360 --> 00:03:41.840
I think most people may have missed.

66
00:03:42.000 --> 00:03:44.120
Yes, No, I mean that's I think that's pretty telling.

67
00:03:44.159 --> 00:03:46.960
From talking to both friends and family. This is one

68
00:03:47.000 --> 00:03:50.360
that we found in our one of our infamous Thanksgiving marathons.

69
00:03:50.360 --> 00:03:52.199
We talked about it last week on the show, and

70
00:03:52.319 --> 00:03:54.039
neither of us had heard of it. We put it

71
00:03:54.080 --> 00:03:56.120
on one day and it just blew us away.

72
00:03:56.639 --> 00:04:00.000
Yeah, I was. I was very surprised by the film. Yeah,

73
00:04:00.599 --> 00:04:03.680
a very high mark for the two thousands. Ye, that

74
00:04:03.840 --> 00:04:05.360
just kind of vanished.

75
00:04:05.439 --> 00:04:07.199
High Mark and Trimark.

76
00:04:08.680 --> 00:04:11.120
Maybe part of the reason. I cann't think Trimark lived

77
00:04:11.199 --> 00:04:12.240
much past two thousand.

78
00:04:12.280 --> 00:04:13.759
I think I think we looked into it one time

79
00:04:13.759 --> 00:04:15.319
and I think that was it. Like this was right

80
00:04:15.360 --> 00:04:16.839
at the tail end of them. I think like maybe

81
00:04:16.879 --> 00:04:18.199
they had two years after this.

82
00:04:18.680 --> 00:04:20.600
Yeah, Well, this was they were trying not to just

83
00:04:20.759 --> 00:04:24.240
make you know, trashy leprechaun movies. They were trying to

84
00:04:24.279 --> 00:04:26.639
make something that would like win awards.

85
00:04:26.720 --> 00:04:29.839
Supercan's good up to five?

86
00:04:30.319 --> 00:04:33.319
I think, Well, I didn't say leprechn wasn't good.

87
00:04:33.439 --> 00:04:34.800
Oh you said trashy lepercun movies.

88
00:04:34.839 --> 00:04:37.319
Well, yeah, they're trashy as well. They're not winning any

89
00:04:37.360 --> 00:04:41.560
awards they should, I'm I mean, well, I bet they've

90
00:04:41.600 --> 00:04:42.519
been given razzies.

91
00:04:42.639 --> 00:04:43.959
I'm sure they've been given razzies.

92
00:04:44.040 --> 00:04:44.680
Especially four.

93
00:04:45.439 --> 00:04:48.480
Well, I mean he's in space and he's giant, and.

94
00:04:48.399 --> 00:04:50.959
He's directed by Brian Trenchard Smith who directed three and four.

95
00:04:50.959 --> 00:04:54.279
I think, yeah, three and four? Yeah, yep, so yeah,

96
00:04:54.279 --> 00:04:59.160
this is one that was kind of desperately under the radar. Yeah,

97
00:04:59.360 --> 00:05:02.360
it's now readily available. When we found it, it wasn't

98
00:05:02.680 --> 00:05:04.560
anywhere really, it was just for rental.

99
00:05:04.639 --> 00:05:05.879
Yeah, I think you rented it. Did we ran it

100
00:05:05.920 --> 00:05:06.519
off Amazon?

101
00:05:06.800 --> 00:05:08.759
I think so, yeah, because.

102
00:05:08.519 --> 00:05:10.600
Then we found out there was a DVD, which is

103
00:05:10.639 --> 00:05:13.199
still impressed today. If you end up liking this movie.

104
00:05:13.240 --> 00:05:16.079
Cannot recommend the DVD enough because it's the only version

105
00:05:16.079 --> 00:05:18.839
of the movie available. There's no Blu ray of it. Yeah,

106
00:05:18.879 --> 00:05:22.079
and uh, that is What's Cooking is just a movie

107
00:05:22.120 --> 00:05:24.319
that if you have not seen and you're getting ready

108
00:05:24.360 --> 00:05:26.560
to listen to the podcast. I beg of you please

109
00:05:26.800 --> 00:05:29.439
stop the podcast, go watch the movie and come back,

110
00:05:29.519 --> 00:05:31.439
because there's so much that we're going to talk about

111
00:05:31.439 --> 00:05:34.399
in the film. But it's worth watching absolutely, like no,

112
00:05:34.600 --> 00:05:35.560
there's no denying that.

113
00:05:35.759 --> 00:05:38.199
It's streaming right now on Prime. You can find it

114
00:05:38.240 --> 00:05:38.560
on to.

115
00:05:38.680 --> 00:05:41.199
B Preevy, a bunch of other places.

116
00:05:41.399 --> 00:05:43.360
Freev will only be around for another month.

117
00:05:43.480 --> 00:05:47.199
Yes, that's true. I forgot about that. Yeah, so get

118
00:05:47.279 --> 00:05:47.959
to it while you can.

119
00:05:48.519 --> 00:05:50.600
Yeah, or just go to to be tob You'll probably

120
00:05:50.600 --> 00:05:51.720
be there a long time, that's fair.

121
00:05:53.319 --> 00:05:56.600
So you ready to get into the deets. Absolutely, pardon

122
00:05:56.639 --> 00:05:59.079
the deeds for What's Cooking? Two thousand is when this

123
00:05:59.120 --> 00:06:02.240
film was released. One hour and forty nine minutes, rated

124
00:06:02.240 --> 00:06:07.040
PG thirteen for some sexuality, brief language, and a perilous situation.

125
00:06:07.959 --> 00:06:10.040
There are at least three languages in this movie. I

126
00:06:10.079 --> 00:06:12.240
don't know why I would call them a brief brief.

127
00:06:14.319 --> 00:06:16.040
Our director and writer on the film, one of the

128
00:06:16.040 --> 00:06:19.319
writers is Garrinder Chada. She gets her start in nineteen

129
00:06:19.360 --> 00:06:22.040
ninety one with I'm British but which She was also

130
00:06:22.120 --> 00:06:24.560
the writer on Boggie on the Beach in ninety three,

131
00:06:24.560 --> 00:06:26.680
which is also the writer on then does What's Cooking

132
00:06:26.720 --> 00:06:28.800
in two thousand, which is the writer and director on

133
00:06:29.079 --> 00:06:30.800
bet It like Beckham in two thousand and two. She's

134
00:06:30.800 --> 00:06:33.120
also the writer on that, Bridon Prejudice in two thousand

135
00:06:33.120 --> 00:06:35.600
and four, writer on that as well, Paris Jay Tummy

136
00:06:36.040 --> 00:06:37.759
two thousand and six, she is writer on but that

137
00:06:37.839 --> 00:06:39.959
is a compilation of writers and directors, so she is

138
00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:41.639
one of them on there. I think twenty is in

139
00:06:41.639 --> 00:06:42.800
that film, if I'm not mistaken.

140
00:06:42.879 --> 00:06:43.360
That's a lot.

141
00:06:43.439 --> 00:06:46.680
Yeah, Angus thongs in Perfect Snogging from two thousand and eight,

142
00:06:46.680 --> 00:06:49.120
which she's the writer on, It's a Wonderful Afterlife in

143
00:06:49.160 --> 00:06:51.959
twenty ten, which she is writer and director on Viceroy's

144
00:06:51.959 --> 00:06:55.199
House in twenty seventeen, Beacham House in twenty nineteen, Blinded

145
00:06:55.199 --> 00:06:58.319
by the Light in twenty nineteen, the Bruce Springsteen musical

146
00:06:58.759 --> 00:07:02.920
I think of like a of age movie. We saw

147
00:07:02.959 --> 00:07:04.519
trailers for it, didn't we didn't get to just see

148
00:07:04.560 --> 00:07:05.920
I've heard good things, We have a chance. But she

149
00:07:06.160 --> 00:07:08.519
got screenplay credit on that as well as director directed

150
00:07:08.600 --> 00:07:10.360
it and Homemade in twenty twenty.

151
00:07:11.000 --> 00:07:14.160
Yeah, I'm shocked. Tell little of her filmography I'm familiar with.

152
00:07:14.319 --> 00:07:16.240
Yeah, a writer on the film along with her is

153
00:07:16.240 --> 00:07:19.839
Paul Medea Burgess. What's Cooking In two thousand has a

154
00:07:19.839 --> 00:07:23.000
writing credit on Bennett like Beckham Brydon Prejudice, The Mistress

155
00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:25.199
of Spices in two thousand and five, parast It to

156
00:07:25.240 --> 00:07:28.399
Me in two thousand and six, Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging,

157
00:07:28.399 --> 00:07:31.160
It's Wonderful Afterlife, Vice Broy's House Beacham House, Blinded by

158
00:07:31.160 --> 00:07:33.279
the lighthole made so I would say they are writing partners.

159
00:07:33.439 --> 00:07:34.959
It sounds that way for sure now.

160
00:07:35.000 --> 00:07:38.480
Cinematographer on the film calling back to the ice Storm

161
00:07:38.480 --> 00:07:41.199
from a couple of weeks ago. Our cinematographer is John

162
00:07:41.279 --> 00:07:43.879
Lynn on the film. Gets his start in nineteen ninety

163
00:07:43.879 --> 00:07:47.199
one on the Anglee film Pushing Hands, Oh Okay, then

164
00:07:47.240 --> 00:07:49.199
goes on to do the Angle film The Wedding Banquet

165
00:07:49.199 --> 00:07:52.519
in nineteen ninety three, Nice, shoots the Anglee film Eat

166
00:07:52.639 --> 00:07:55.720
Drink Man Woman in nineteen ninety four, Wow Okay, then

167
00:07:55.759 --> 00:07:59.319
shoots Shanghai Jasel in ninety eight, What's Cooking in two

168
00:07:59.319 --> 00:08:03.360
thousand and Binik two thousand and one. Bennett like Beckham

169
00:08:03.360 --> 00:08:05.879
two thousand and two, Sunflower two thousand and five, Blown

170
00:08:05.920 --> 00:08:08.879
Mount Blind Mountain two thousand and seven, Ming Zang two

171
00:08:08.879 --> 00:08:12.480
thousand and nine, Lawn into nine, Great Wall, My Love

172
00:08:12.519 --> 00:08:15.759
in twenty eleven, Home Away twenty seventeen, and Send Me

173
00:08:15.800 --> 00:08:17.160
to the Clouds in twenty nineteen.

174
00:08:17.480 --> 00:08:19.079
Okay, so not the ice Storm.

175
00:08:19.160 --> 00:08:21.519
Not the ice storm. Basically basically cut off right.

176
00:08:21.399 --> 00:08:24.279
Before a stuff up until then. Yeah.

177
00:08:24.360 --> 00:08:27.319
The IMDb synopsis says, four families in LA of different

178
00:08:27.319 --> 00:08:31.360
ethnicity Latino, Asian, Vietnamese, African, and Jewish gather together for

179
00:08:31.439 --> 00:08:32.360
Thanksgiving dinner.

180
00:08:32.960 --> 00:08:35.840
It's pretty meat and potatoes part.

181
00:08:35.679 --> 00:08:38.679
Of the by synopsis. Thanksgiving Dinner turns into an explosive

182
00:08:38.679 --> 00:08:41.600
event for four families of different ethnicities as each family

183
00:08:41.600 --> 00:08:43.679
struggles to keep it together and make it through the day.

184
00:08:44.399 --> 00:08:45.679
It's pretty solid, yeah.

185
00:08:45.679 --> 00:08:46.279
I would say so.

186
00:08:46.759 --> 00:08:50.799
Taglines of the film include families fights, feast a holiday tradition.

187
00:08:52.279 --> 00:08:54.000
That's a pretty solid tag line as well.

188
00:08:54.039 --> 00:08:57.519
And the other tagline is Thanksgiving a celebration of food, tradition,

189
00:08:58.039 --> 00:08:59.120
and relative insanity.

190
00:09:00.600 --> 00:09:03.039
I could see that one. They're like trying really hard.

191
00:09:03.279 --> 00:09:04.919
Yeah, I would say so, But it's still pretty good.

192
00:09:05.399 --> 00:09:06.960
Cast of the film. I want to go ahead and

193
00:09:07.000 --> 00:09:08.279
get this out of the way. There is a huge

194
00:09:08.279 --> 00:09:10.480
cast on this film, so I did do a selection

195
00:09:10.600 --> 00:09:13.039
of some didn't go through their entire filmography, but for one,

196
00:09:13.080 --> 00:09:15.960
we have Joan Chen, who plays Neuen in the film

197
00:09:16.039 --> 00:09:19.840

who plays hobbyer Avilla in the film He gets to

212
00:09:58.200 --> 00:10:00.440
start in eighty six On eight Million Wait to Die,

213
00:10:00.440 --> 00:10:04.600
which is a great uh Nea noir with Jeff Bridges

214
00:10:04.600 --> 00:10:06.320
that I just saw actually this year for the first time.

215
00:10:06.320 --> 00:10:08.120
Really solid flock. I'm gonna bring around and show you

216

00:10:18.320 --> 00:10:19.919

221
00:10:21.799 --> 00:10:32.559
Do You Even? Movie? Will be right back. Welcome back

222
00:10:32.639 --> 00:10:33.840
to Do You Even?

223
00:10:33.960 --> 00:10:39.320
Movie.

224
00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:41.759
We also have Laine Kazan, who plays Rue Sealing in

225
00:10:41.799 --> 00:10:43.720
the film. She was in Delta Force in eighty six,

226
00:10:43.799 --> 00:10:46.600
The Big Hit in ninety eight, The Nanny in ninety five,

227
00:10:46.720 --> 00:10:49.000
What's Cooking in two thousand, My Big Fact Greek Wedding

228
00:10:49.000 --> 00:10:50.600
in two thousand and two. She plays the mother in that.

229
00:10:50.879 --> 00:10:53.639
Dennis Haysbert who plays Ronald Williams, he of course all

230
00:10:53.639 --> 00:10:56.600
State voice that we all know, Major League in eighty nine,

231
00:10:56.720 --> 00:10:59.159
Heat the Thirteenth Floor, What's Cooking? He was also the

232
00:10:59.159 --> 00:11:01.440
President on twenty five in two thousand and one. We

233
00:11:01.480 --> 00:11:04.720
also have Alfrey Woodard who plays Audrey Williams in the

234
00:11:04.759 --> 00:11:08.240
film Extremities in eighty six, Screwed. She plays Bill Murray's

235
00:11:08.240 --> 00:11:11.080
assistant in that film. In eighty eight, Oh Yeah, Crookland

236
00:11:11.120 --> 00:11:14.159
in ninety four, Primal Fear, Star Trek First Contact. What's

237
00:11:14.159 --> 00:11:17.240
Cooking has a great storyline in Desperate Housewise in two

238
00:11:17.240 --> 00:11:18.440
thousand and five. By the way, she was a great

239
00:11:18.519 --> 00:11:23.320
character that came in. I want to say probably the

240
00:11:23.360 --> 00:11:26.320
third or fourth season has a great storyline where she's

241
00:11:26.320 --> 00:11:30.120
a secretly keeping her son locked in the basement. Niche Yeah,

242
00:11:30.159 --> 00:11:32.159
True Blood in twenty ten, and most recently was on

243
00:11:32.200 --> 00:11:34.600
the Salem's Lot remake in twenty twenty four. Oh okay,

244
00:11:35.080 --> 00:11:37.720
What's Cooking is currently available, As Enrique mentioned on freeb

245
00:11:37.919 --> 00:11:41.200
Prime Stars Roku, you can find it readily available. And

246
00:11:41.240 --> 00:11:43.320
like I've said again, if you have not seen the film,

247
00:11:43.360 --> 00:11:44.639
and we are getting ready to get into it, if

248
00:11:44.679 --> 00:11:46.320
you have not seen it, go ahead and stop it now,

249
00:11:46.399 --> 00:11:48.600
because you got to watch this movie. What was your

250
00:11:48.639 --> 00:11:50.279
first time watching it, Enrique?

251
00:11:51.240 --> 00:11:54.080
I think it was it was on a Thanksgiving marathon

252
00:11:54.120 --> 00:11:57.559
about five years ago, five or six. I think, yeah, yeah,

253
00:11:57.600 --> 00:12:02.720
completely on you know what, uh, completely unexpected. I remember

254
00:12:02.720 --> 00:12:05.960
how we saw it. It was Voodoo Free, Voodoo Free,

255
00:12:05.960 --> 00:12:08.320
you're right, yeah, yeah, commercials.

256
00:12:07.799 --> 00:12:08.639
Yep, Oh, that's right.

257
00:12:08.679 --> 00:12:09.879
We did watch it with commercials.

258
00:12:10.000 --> 00:12:12.000
Yew. Well, we had no idea what it was. It

259
00:12:12.080 --> 00:12:13.679
was one of the only places that it was.

260
00:12:13.679 --> 00:12:15.080
And that was still at the time where we only

261
00:12:15.120 --> 00:12:17.080
thought there was like seven Thanksgiving films.

262
00:12:17.399 --> 00:12:20.559
Yeah. I don't know how the floodgates just opened up.

263
00:12:20.440 --> 00:12:22.240
Because if I remember correctly, I feel like the year

264
00:12:22.240 --> 00:12:26.120
we found What's Cooking, we also found The Balloon the Donut.

265
00:12:26.639 --> 00:12:27.960
I can never remember that full title.

266
00:12:29.799 --> 00:12:32.600
Yeah, I unfortunately can't remember the exact title.

267
00:12:32.639 --> 00:12:33.720
That one, and I think that might have been the

268
00:12:33.720 --> 00:12:35.320
first year we watched House of Yes as well.

269
00:12:36.639 --> 00:12:38.360
Uh, I had seen it on my own.

270
00:12:38.440 --> 00:12:40.960
You've seen on your own before? Yeah, yeah, yeah, because

271
00:12:41.000 --> 00:12:42.679
that was one that you threw my way, which we

272
00:12:42.720 --> 00:12:44.919
may talk about at one point, but now this was

273
00:12:45.000 --> 00:12:47.200
both of us watching this for the first time. We were,

274
00:12:47.240 --> 00:12:49.360
like I said, already, we were just blown away. There

275
00:12:49.440 --> 00:12:51.840
is a reveal in the third act that makes this

276
00:12:51.960 --> 00:12:54.200
movie four stars for me automatically.

277
00:12:54.399 --> 00:12:56.519
Yeah, the ending is solid. The film was the two

278
00:12:56.559 --> 00:12:59.600
thousand and eight movie The Donut, The Balloon and the Lifesaver, Yeah,

279
00:12:59.639 --> 00:13:04.919
which is a very fascinating, super indie movie. Yeah, that

280
00:13:05.000 --> 00:13:06.200
I really loved.

281
00:13:06.320 --> 00:13:08.039
Very very good. So you're ready to get into the film.

282
00:13:08.080 --> 00:13:08.639
Hell yeah.

283
00:13:08.679 --> 00:13:10.600
So we open with a version of the National Anthem.

284
00:13:10.639 --> 00:13:13.159
As we start see a picture of a nice Norman

285
00:13:13.279 --> 00:13:15.679
Rockwell esque family, but they are modernized, and we pull

286
00:13:15.720 --> 00:13:17.559
out to reveal that it's the side of the image

287
00:13:17.559 --> 00:13:19.120
on the side of a bus and we are going

288
00:13:19.120 --> 00:13:21.440
through the streets of la we're inside the bus. We

289
00:13:21.480 --> 00:13:23.799
meet Jenny who is with her boyfriend and the bus

290
00:13:23.840 --> 00:13:25.720
is making its way through the streets, and that's when

291
00:13:25.720 --> 00:13:28.399
we also meet Audrey Williams, who's attending her daughter's Thanksgiving

292
00:13:28.440 --> 00:13:31.960
school play. In attendance is also Trainy Lizzie, and we

293
00:13:32.080 --> 00:13:34.759
also meet a couple of the other members as well.

294
00:13:35.200 --> 00:13:37.159
While this is also going on, we cut to Governor

295
00:13:37.240 --> 00:13:40.120
Rhodes who is doing a meet and greet with some

296
00:13:40.200 --> 00:13:42.480
people and he is out front of a I think

297
00:13:42.519 --> 00:13:45.360
it's an establishment that's being built, and three guys walk

298
00:13:45.480 --> 00:13:47.039
up and throw white paint on him.

299
00:13:47.840 --> 00:13:48.960
Yeah, they nail him.

300
00:13:49.120 --> 00:13:51.159
They nail him pretty good. So that is when we

301
00:13:51.200 --> 00:13:53.840
also meet Ronald Williams, who again is played by Dennis Habert.

302
00:13:53.879 --> 00:13:56.000
He works for Rhodes as one of his assistants, and

303
00:13:56.000 --> 00:13:58.960
he immediately notices something about one of the men, but

304
00:13:59.000 --> 00:14:00.799
we don't find out what that that is right away.

305
00:14:01.080 --> 00:14:03.600
It's worth mentioning the guy who plays Rhodes was in

306
00:14:03.759 --> 00:14:06.440
Silent Night Deadly Night too, Frank Novak, and he was

307
00:14:06.440 --> 00:14:08.840
the guy beating up some guy in the street corner.

308
00:14:08.879 --> 00:14:09.480
That is correct.

309
00:14:09.600 --> 00:14:12.559
Yes, So we also see an end credit shot as

310
00:14:12.600 --> 00:14:14.840
we see the same Thanksgiving sign from the opening, but

311
00:14:14.960 --> 00:14:17.240
with a Mexican family this time, and I think it

312
00:14:17.279 --> 00:14:20.320
says Felise. I can't remember the exact phrasing.

313
00:14:20.679 --> 00:14:26.639
Well, it said Fealise de la graciask happy, thankful, gotcha.

314
00:14:27.039 --> 00:14:29.360
So we also meet Gary and Jenny Wynn, who are

315
00:14:29.360 --> 00:14:31.919
working with their father in a video store, and their brother,

316
00:14:32.039 --> 00:14:34.240
Jimmy calls checking in with the family. He's in college

317
00:14:34.240 --> 00:14:36.039
and he wants to talk to her mother. He tells

318
00:14:36.159 --> 00:14:38.360
Jenny tells her that she's out right now, but he

319
00:14:38.440 --> 00:14:40.480
says to have her call him back and he's only

320
00:14:40.519 --> 00:14:41.919
going to be in the dorm for another hour. So

321
00:14:41.960 --> 00:14:43.639
we see that Jimmy is in college and he may

322
00:14:43.679 --> 00:14:45.799
not be spending Thanksgiving with his family.

323
00:14:46.639 --> 00:14:49.440
Yeah, and this is the beginning of us just meeting

324
00:14:49.480 --> 00:14:52.159
all of these family members. So early on they show

325
00:14:52.200 --> 00:14:55.120
them preparing for Thanksgiving during the opening credits. Yeah, and

326
00:14:55.159 --> 00:15:00.320
the American music is taken over by cultural flavor. Yeah,

327
00:15:00.360 --> 00:15:02.120
depending on who we're looking at.

328
00:15:02.200 --> 00:15:03.600
Happens multiple times in the film.

329
00:15:03.720 --> 00:15:04.360
Yeah.

330
00:15:04.600 --> 00:15:07.480
So we also find out that we are going to

331
00:15:07.480 --> 00:15:09.960
meet another family, which is the Sealing family as they

332
00:15:10.000 --> 00:15:12.519
are at the local grocery store. That's Ruth and Erb

333
00:15:12.559 --> 00:15:15.559
who are buying their turkey dinners and whatnot. And also

334
00:15:15.919 --> 00:15:17.759
we see that RB is buying a couple of turkey

335
00:15:17.759 --> 00:15:20.000
plushes for the grandchildren, which we'll find out a little

336
00:15:20.039 --> 00:15:22.440
later on as well. Well. Of course, also in store

337
00:15:22.480 --> 00:15:24.960
we meet Ardrew Williams once again, and we also meet

338
00:15:25.000 --> 00:15:28.120
Anthony Avila with his wife Sophia as they run into Hobber,

339
00:15:28.279 --> 00:15:30.840
his father, who has split from his mother. At this point,

340
00:15:30.879 --> 00:15:32.679
they are still married, but he is not living at

341
00:15:32.679 --> 00:15:34.080
home and they are not together right.

342
00:15:33.960 --> 00:15:37.799
Now, and he reveals that he's spending Thanksgiving by himself

343
00:15:37.840 --> 00:15:41.639
because he is no longer with Awkward, his sister in law.

344
00:15:41.840 --> 00:15:46.440
Yes, so that is when Javier is invited by Anthony

345
00:15:46.440 --> 00:15:49.039
to the Thanksgiving dinner and he's like, you know, are

346
00:15:49.039 --> 00:15:51.039
you sure that's okay? And Anthony's like, yeah, it should

347
00:15:51.039 --> 00:15:52.720
be fine. So he's like okay, cool, I'll see you.

348
00:15:53.159 --> 00:15:55.440
As he walks away, Sophia's like, you're in deep shit.

349
00:15:56.080 --> 00:15:56.759
Yeah.

350
00:15:56.840 --> 00:15:59.559
So over at Lizzie's house, we see her in bed

351
00:15:59.600 --> 00:16:03.000
with her new man, Daniel, and she and Daniel are

352
00:16:03.000 --> 00:16:04.639
in the bed together. She receives a call from her

353
00:16:04.720 --> 00:16:06.519
daughter Gina, letting her know that she's going to be

354
00:16:06.559 --> 00:16:08.879
coming over tomorrow to help and not do anything, because

355
00:16:08.879 --> 00:16:11.559
she wants to help her. Also, Lizzie expresses that she's

356
00:16:11.600 --> 00:16:14.440
excited to meet the new boyfriend of Gina's as he's

357
00:16:14.480 --> 00:16:17.000
going to be introduced to the whole family tomorrow for Thanksgiving.

358
00:16:17.759 --> 00:16:20.320
That's a low pressure way to meet everybody, just a

359
00:16:20.360 --> 00:16:20.960
small one.

360
00:16:21.159 --> 00:16:23.039
So she also warns her of the traffic tomorrow. We

361
00:16:23.039 --> 00:16:24.879
cut back to Jimmy, who receives a call from his

362
00:16:24.919 --> 00:16:27.120
mom and he tells her his midterm schedule is going

363
00:16:27.159 --> 00:16:29.399
to keep him from attending the Thanksgiving and she says

364
00:16:29.440 --> 00:16:31.639
the family will understand and that he's a good boy

365
00:16:31.759 --> 00:16:33.759
and that she hopes that he is a good Thanksgiving.

366
00:16:34.000 --> 00:16:36.120
We then cut to the airport, where we meet Rachel

367
00:16:36.120 --> 00:16:39.080
Ceiling and her girlfriend Carla. Also at the airport, we

368
00:16:39.120 --> 00:16:41.440
see Audrey with her daughter and they are picking up

369
00:16:41.519 --> 00:16:45.720
Ronald's mother, Grace, and Grace apologizes, or Grace is asking

370
00:16:45.720 --> 00:16:48.480
where Ronald is, and that's what Audrey tells him, you know,

371
00:16:48.519 --> 00:16:50.039
he had to work, and she's like, oh, well, he's

372
00:16:50.039 --> 00:16:52.519
such a busy boy. It's okay, is Michael going to

373
00:16:52.519 --> 00:16:54.879
be joining us for Thanksgiving? And that's when Audrey's like, well,

374
00:16:54.919 --> 00:16:57.080
Michael's busy at college. He may not make it a dinner.

375
00:16:57.159 --> 00:16:59.120
And Grace is like, what, your own son's not going

376
00:16:59.200 --> 00:17:00.360
to come to Thanksgiving dinner?

377
00:17:01.360 --> 00:17:03.399
And this is probably gonna make your head spin a

378
00:17:03.399 --> 00:17:05.359
little bit, guys, because there's a lot of actors, a

379
00:17:05.400 --> 00:17:07.000
lot of characters, a lot of families.

380
00:17:07.119 --> 00:17:10.640
Yeah, So Anthony arrives at Lizzie's house with the groceries

381
00:17:10.720 --> 00:17:12.799
and Lizzie looks over the turkey, asking, you know, do

382
00:17:12.799 --> 00:17:14.599
you think it's going to be enough, and she says,

383
00:17:14.599 --> 00:17:16.680
you know, actually, on second thought, without your father coming,

384
00:17:17.400 --> 00:17:19.480
we'll probably have more than enough food. Actually, we'll probably

385
00:17:19.519 --> 00:17:21.759
have leftovers for the first time, and Anthony is petting

386
00:17:21.759 --> 00:17:24.319
the family dog and he looks uneasiest she says this,

387
00:17:25.759 --> 00:17:28.160
So that is when we then cut to the video

388
00:17:28.200 --> 00:17:30.640
store where Lizzie goes into the video store and we

389
00:17:30.720 --> 00:17:33.400
see that Joey the wind Sun he is one of

390
00:17:33.400 --> 00:17:35.759
her students, and he also introduces her to his father,

391
00:17:36.119 --> 00:17:37.960
and she asked, you know, how does he like the neighborhood.

392
00:17:37.960 --> 00:17:39.960
That's kind of when we get a hint that she

393
00:17:40.079 --> 00:17:41.119
knows about where they live.

394
00:17:41.880 --> 00:17:43.880
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

395
00:17:43.319 --> 00:17:45.079
So that may come back at some point. So the

396
00:17:45.079 --> 00:17:47.559
Ceilings drive home, and we also see that Audrey and

397
00:17:47.640 --> 00:17:50.039
Ruth exit the airport and Ruth is questioning, you know,

398
00:17:50.640 --> 00:17:52.440
you know, are y'all ever going to come see me,

399
00:17:52.519 --> 00:17:55.079
because she lives in Chicago and she's flown down to La.

400
00:17:55.160 --> 00:17:56.799
At this point, she's like, if I had a nickel

401
00:17:56.839 --> 00:17:58.559
for every time y'all said you were gonna come visit me,

402
00:17:58.599 --> 00:18:02.119
I'd be rich. So we see that it's night now

403
00:18:02.160 --> 00:18:04.440
as Rachel and Carla arrive at the Ceiling's residence. Her

404
00:18:04.440 --> 00:18:07.480
mother and father greet them, introduces him to the family dog,

405
00:18:07.519 --> 00:18:10.160
and Rachel also watches as her dad shows Carla Rachel's

406
00:18:10.200 --> 00:18:10.839
room with.

407
00:18:11.119 --> 00:18:14.240
Two beds now two twin beds.

408
00:18:13.960 --> 00:18:16.480
Two twin beds, Yes, and Audrey prepares the layout for

409
00:18:16.480 --> 00:18:20.119
dinner at the Winds. Grandma discovers a condom in Jenny's

410
00:18:20.119 --> 00:18:21.960
coat and that in the.

411
00:18:22.440 --> 00:18:25.759
In the rapper. Don't make it, don't make it hideous.

412
00:18:25.400 --> 00:18:27.920
Yes, and that is when her family is a bit concerned.

413
00:18:28.079 --> 00:18:30.400
Rachel joins her family outside with her dad as he

414
00:18:30.440 --> 00:18:32.920
soaks in the jacuzzi, and Jenny then comes home to

415
00:18:32.960 --> 00:18:35.440
the Winds and the family confronts her about the condom.

416
00:18:35.680 --> 00:18:37.799
Jenny informs them that the school was passing them out.

417
00:18:37.839 --> 00:18:40.079
It's not a big deal, and her parents question why

418
00:18:40.119 --> 00:18:42.599
is school passing them out and also comments on Jenny's

419
00:18:42.599 --> 00:18:43.559
no sense of modesty.

420
00:18:44.559 --> 00:18:47.240
Yeah. Well, and it's important to point out that the Winds.

421
00:18:47.519 --> 00:18:52.759
So what you have here is a pretty straight dichotomy

422
00:18:52.839 --> 00:18:57.200
of different American families. Yeah, you have a Latino family

423
00:18:57.640 --> 00:19:01.079
who have probably been in this country at least three generations,

424
00:19:01.200 --> 00:19:04.000
maybe more, maybe less, it doesn't really matter because they're

425
00:19:04.000 --> 00:19:08.839
in California, so they're very in the Chicano culture. Then

426
00:19:08.880 --> 00:19:15.880
you have the the family with the working in politics Williams,

427
00:19:16.160 --> 00:19:19.599
and they're a black family, but they're definitely the standard

428
00:19:19.640 --> 00:19:22.880
American family without a doubt. So they're they're very they're

429
00:19:22.960 --> 00:19:25.640
kind of waspy. They are affluent.

430
00:19:25.440 --> 00:19:27.680
Making gravy with the chataki mushrooms.

431
00:19:27.839 --> 00:19:30.160
Yeah, because they want to try something new because their

432
00:19:30.160 --> 00:19:33.440
lives are so boring, being so rich and but no,

433
00:19:33.559 --> 00:19:36.119
I mean, you know, it's kind of the traditional American problem.

434
00:19:36.359 --> 00:19:39.559
But then you look at like the then there's the

435
00:19:39.640 --> 00:19:43.640
Jewish family. Yeah, and they're a little bit more of

436
00:19:43.759 --> 00:19:47.960
kind of that coastal tradition traditional family. But of course

437
00:19:48.000 --> 00:19:50.240
you know the monkey wrench of the daughter who's a

438
00:19:50.279 --> 00:19:53.519
lesbian that they kind of already know but they don't

439
00:19:53.519 --> 00:19:56.480
but they do. But then when you look at the Winds,

440
00:19:57.079 --> 00:20:01.559
they're a really interesting family dynamic added to this because

441
00:20:01.640 --> 00:20:06.000
they have not been in America very long, so everything

442
00:20:06.119 --> 00:20:08.880
is novel to them, Like to the kids everything is

443
00:20:08.920 --> 00:20:11.319
new and exciting, and to the parents everything is new

444
00:20:11.480 --> 00:20:14.279
and sometimes frustrating or threatening.

445
00:20:14.359 --> 00:20:15.319
Yeah.

446
00:20:15.359 --> 00:20:18.400
And I think that that's really an interesting way to

447
00:20:18.519 --> 00:20:21.960
go about it. Because when they ask the oldest son,

448
00:20:22.000 --> 00:20:24.680
the one who doesn't come home, you know, where he's from.

449
00:20:24.720 --> 00:20:26.640
He says he was born in Korea. Yeah, So that

450
00:20:26.680 --> 00:20:29.400
means that at least some of the kids, or maybe

451
00:20:29.400 --> 00:20:32.559
it was only him, were actually born in Korea. That's

452
00:20:32.799 --> 00:20:34.720
just the family is very very new to the country

453
00:20:34.799 --> 00:20:40.240
Vietnam or Vietnam, sorry, Korea. Well when is actually traditionally

454
00:20:40.519 --> 00:20:43.160
Vietnamese name. That's why I knew how to say it.

455
00:20:43.240 --> 00:20:46.960
But no, So they just come to this country maybe

456
00:20:47.440 --> 00:20:52.680
twenty or fifteen years ago, something like that, and they're trepidacious.

457
00:20:53.880 --> 00:20:55.880
Later on, we'll see that their daughter has a white

458
00:20:55.880 --> 00:20:58.799
boyfriend and they're just not fond of him. Yeah, and

459
00:20:58.839 --> 00:21:02.680
not because straight up because he's white, but because they're

460
00:21:02.759 --> 00:21:06.519
just they're just certain that something's up with him. They're

461
00:21:06.559 --> 00:21:08.880
just certain that, like, ah, like the way he dresses,

462
00:21:08.920 --> 00:21:13.000
where we live, that kind of thing. So I think

463
00:21:13.039 --> 00:21:15.559
that that is a really great dichotomy. You get a

464
00:21:15.599 --> 00:21:20.279
lot of varied degrees of American families, and that's one

465
00:21:20.319 --> 00:21:22.319
of the things that struck me the first time I

466
00:21:22.319 --> 00:21:25.759
watched this movie very very much, was how many examples

467
00:21:26.039 --> 00:21:29.519
of an American family they gave us while only keeping

468
00:21:29.559 --> 00:21:33.839
it to to like four families. So I just really

469
00:21:33.839 --> 00:21:35.640
think it's a it's impressive how they handle it.

470
00:21:37.599 --> 00:21:48.359
Do You Even? Movie will be right back, welcome back

471
00:21:48.440 --> 00:21:49.640
to Do You Even?

472
00:21:49.759 --> 00:21:52.240
Movie.

473
00:21:54.960 --> 00:21:58.359
So, meanwhile, Lizzie finds out that Anthony has invited Hobby

474
00:21:58.400 --> 00:22:00.880
here to dinner, and she reminds him that Javier left us.

475
00:22:01.039 --> 00:22:03.079
It's better this way, and he will need to find

476
00:22:03.079 --> 00:22:05.000
a way to uninvite him at dinner. She doesn't care how,

477
00:22:05.119 --> 00:22:07.920
but just uninvite him. He is no longer invited to dinner.

478
00:22:08.160 --> 00:22:10.559
Well, you know, it is awkward inviting your dad, who

479
00:22:10.640 --> 00:22:13.640
cheated on your mom, to the Thanksgiving dinner your mom

480
00:22:13.720 --> 00:22:15.720
is at. Yeah, it can be a little weird, especially

481
00:22:15.720 --> 00:22:19.400
when we find out it wasn't that long ago. He's

482
00:22:19.480 --> 00:22:20.319
not so.

483
00:22:20.440 --> 00:22:23.160
Ruth and Herb tell Rachel about the grandchildren that they're

484
00:22:23.160 --> 00:22:25.759
infatuated with, especially Herb, who is said to be twenty

485
00:22:25.839 --> 00:22:27.640
years younger. When he's playing with them in the garden,

486
00:22:27.759 --> 00:22:29.839
we find out that they're really into the grandchildren. That's

487
00:22:29.839 --> 00:22:31.720
exactly who he was buying the turkey plushes for at

488
00:22:31.720 --> 00:22:33.400
the grocery, of course, well.

489
00:22:33.240 --> 00:22:33.960
That and his dog.

490
00:22:34.319 --> 00:22:37.200
His dog, yes, even commenting to Rachel that she should

491
00:22:37.200 --> 00:22:39.319
spend more time with the grandchildren as well. At the

492
00:22:39.319 --> 00:22:42.119
Williams residence, Ronald returns home and is greeted by his mother,

493
00:22:42.160 --> 00:22:44.559
who gives him guph for working and not picking her up,

494
00:22:44.599 --> 00:22:46.920
and she even questions if everything is okay with Audrey

495
00:22:47.000 --> 00:22:49.680
because she's just been seeming off. He tells her everything

496
00:22:49.720 --> 00:22:51.519
is all right. But we see in the bedroom that

497
00:22:51.559 --> 00:22:53.720
Audrey is laying on the bed reading a book, but

498
00:22:53.799 --> 00:22:56.440
she's hearing the whole conversation. She looks uneasy, and as

499
00:22:56.440 --> 00:22:58.759
soon as Ronald's done talking to his mother he goes

500
00:22:58.759 --> 00:23:00.519
into the bedroom. She's already show off the lights and

501
00:23:00.599 --> 00:23:01.720
is acting like she's sleeping.

502
00:23:02.119 --> 00:23:05.119
Yeah, there's clearly trouble in the home front.

503
00:23:05.279 --> 00:23:07.759
Yeah, so that is when the ceiling household.

504
00:23:07.799 --> 00:23:09.720
We also see that they're getting ready for bed as

505
00:23:09.839 --> 00:23:12.240
Ruth and Herb question if they did something wrong to

506
00:23:12.279 --> 00:23:14.960
make Rachel a lesbian. Meanwhile, Rachel and Carla on the

507
00:23:15.000 --> 00:23:17.440
other side of the wall, you know, and carl is

508
00:23:17.519 --> 00:23:19.240
kind of concerned, like with her parents, like, you know,

509
00:23:19.319 --> 00:23:21.359
is everything okay and whatnot, And Rachel's trying to be

510
00:23:21.400 --> 00:23:24.119
like it's it's fine, like, you know, don't worry about it. Meanwhile,

511
00:23:24.119 --> 00:23:25.839
on the other side of the wall, Ruth and Herb.

512
00:23:26.359 --> 00:23:28.960
Ruth starts crying because she thinks that they've done something

513
00:23:28.960 --> 00:23:30.319
wrong to make their daughter a lesbian.

514
00:23:30.640 --> 00:23:34.200
Yeah, I mean, that's the great thing about guilt it's

515
00:23:34.240 --> 00:23:36.759
the gift that keeps on giving.

516
00:23:36.920 --> 00:23:38.519
Even I love it because herb at one point he's like,

517
00:23:38.559 --> 00:23:39.920
you know, maybe it was that time we sent her that.

518
00:23:40.000 --> 00:23:41.839
All girls camp the cubbooks.

519
00:23:42.599 --> 00:23:45.400
So we also cut back to the Winds and Trin

520
00:23:45.559 --> 00:23:48.599
questions why Jimmy doesn't want to come home anymore, chatting

521
00:23:48.640 --> 00:23:50.480
with the grandma who reminds her that she should be

522
00:23:50.480 --> 00:23:53.079
thankful for her children every day, and next we also

523
00:23:53.160 --> 00:23:55.720
see that Lizzie is prepping the turkey for tomorrow morning,

524
00:23:56.079 --> 00:23:58.559
and then we cut to Thanksgiving morning.

525
00:23:59.119 --> 00:24:02.799
One of my favorite parts of this is the vastly

526
00:24:03.039 --> 00:24:07.920
different amount of care and thought that each family puts

527
00:24:07.960 --> 00:24:12.480
into the bird. There are some of them who are

528
00:24:12.680 --> 00:24:16.880
brinding it all overnight. Yeah, I believe the Mexican family

529
00:24:17.200 --> 00:24:20.640
is binding it overnight. Yep. Then there's you know, the

530
00:24:21.319 --> 00:24:23.680
I'm just gonna use their ethnicities because no, because it's

531
00:24:23.680 --> 00:24:25.839
gonna I'm I'm hav I just watched the movie. I'm

532
00:24:25.839 --> 00:24:28.160
having drum understand.

533
00:24:28.279 --> 00:24:28.680
Yeah.

534
00:24:28.880 --> 00:24:31.079
But then you have the Jewish family. They just kind

535
00:24:31.079 --> 00:24:35.200
of cut it open, start doing stuff the day of Yeah. Yeah,

536
00:24:35.319 --> 00:24:39.960
I mean they thought it, you know, and uh yeah,

537
00:24:40.000 --> 00:24:43.039
it's just the amount of effort so then, like the

538
00:24:43.039 --> 00:24:47.759
the Vietnamese family, they have the turkey, and there they're

539
00:24:48.440 --> 00:24:53.400
applying chili pepper flakes, well chili pepper sauce to one

540
00:24:53.519 --> 00:24:55.240
half of it, so that half of it will be

541
00:24:55.880 --> 00:24:58.480
very flavorful, which leads to one of my favorite lines

542
00:24:58.480 --> 00:24:59.000
in the whole movie.

543
00:24:59.039 --> 00:25:01.319
Yeah, Jenny questions, you know, She's like, why do we

544
00:25:01.319 --> 00:25:03.319
make the turkey taste like everything we already eat? And

545
00:25:03.319 --> 00:25:05.279
then Grandma's like, why do you want everything to taste

546
00:25:05.319 --> 00:25:06.880
like McDonald's solid?

547
00:25:07.400 --> 00:25:12.160
That is some solid. Look, look, I had immigrant grandparents.

548
00:25:12.920 --> 00:25:16.680
That shit's legit. All right. I'm just saying like, yeah,

549
00:25:16.680 --> 00:25:21.400
that's kind of their game. Yeah, but no, I think

550
00:25:21.440 --> 00:25:25.160
that's a really great example too, especially coming from you

551
00:25:25.200 --> 00:25:26.000
who hates turkey.

552
00:25:26.079 --> 00:25:28.480
I don't hate turkey, it's just not one of my favorites.

553
00:25:28.599 --> 00:25:31.160
I've actually thought about this since last time we spoke.

554
00:25:31.279 --> 00:25:33.720
Oh okay, and I have no new answer for it.

555
00:25:34.559 --> 00:25:38.519
That's fair, well, I mean it's worth mentioning that turkey

556
00:25:38.799 --> 00:25:42.640
is relatively difficult to cook and most people do it

557
00:25:42.759 --> 00:25:43.400
once a year.

558
00:25:43.519 --> 00:25:44.240
Yeah, that's fair.

559
00:25:44.599 --> 00:25:47.319
So it's not like they get an immense amount of practice.

560
00:25:47.400 --> 00:25:50.119
There's some families that apparently do both a turkey and

561
00:25:50.160 --> 00:25:52.319
a ham for Thanksgiving and Christmas both.

562
00:25:53.799 --> 00:25:56.039
Well, I mean, there's no law against it.

563
00:25:55.960 --> 00:25:57.400
And it seems against the law to me.

564
00:25:57.880 --> 00:25:59.720
I mean, I think that just depends on how big

565
00:25:59.759 --> 00:26:02.799
you're family is. Rachel's we did a Thanksgiving once with

566
00:26:02.839 --> 00:26:04.920
ham and turkey, but there were thirty eight frigging people.

567
00:26:04.960 --> 00:26:07.359
Then at Thanksgiving it's acceptable, I think. But I think

568
00:26:07.400 --> 00:26:09.519
the turkey to Christmas, no, no.

569
00:26:10.240 --> 00:26:15.440
Well, no, sir, Well, having a turkey at Christmas is

570
00:26:15.599 --> 00:26:21.599
generally related to the fact that originally Christmas was about goose. Yes, goose,

571
00:26:22.480 --> 00:26:26.559
but now good luck finding a goose big enough for

572
00:26:26.599 --> 00:26:30.000
a whole family. And no one wants to get another chicken.

573
00:26:30.440 --> 00:26:33.480
As Americans, at the very least, we just choke down

574
00:26:33.599 --> 00:26:38.359
chicken all year long. It's the cheap, relatively healthy protein.

575
00:26:38.720 --> 00:26:41.079
So don't pooh on their parade when they have a

576
00:26:41.359 --> 00:26:44.240
I mean, look, my cousin Jeff just told us that

577
00:26:44.359 --> 00:26:47.559
he's doing Thanksgiving again this year. He made the best

578
00:26:47.559 --> 00:26:49.039
turkey I'd ever tasted in my life.

579
00:26:49.039 --> 00:26:49.720
I remember, tell me.

580
00:26:49.799 --> 00:26:53.200
Yeah, So, I mean, I'm not mad about the turkey.

581
00:26:53.240 --> 00:26:55.920
No, I'm not mad about Like what I was gonna

582
00:26:55.960 --> 00:26:58.720
say is having thought about turkey. I think what it

583
00:26:58.799 --> 00:27:02.480
is for me is that it's not something that I

584
00:27:02.519 --> 00:27:05.519
have so often unless it's like turkey slices like cold

585
00:27:05.519 --> 00:27:06.000
cut in one.

586
00:27:06.079 --> 00:27:07.039
Oh that's a whole other thing.

587
00:27:07.119 --> 00:27:08.480
Yeah, that's a whole other thing. So it's just like

588
00:27:08.519 --> 00:27:10.680
I can, I can eat those all day, but like

589
00:27:10.720 --> 00:27:12.319
turkey is not eating.

590
00:27:11.880 --> 00:27:14.480
Turkey cold cuts all year long and don't and they

591
00:27:14.480 --> 00:27:17.559
don't even think about that. It's what you eat at Thanksgiving.

592
00:27:17.720 --> 00:27:18.440
It tastes different.

593
00:27:20.559 --> 00:27:24.079
Let it be known that David said cold cuts make

594
00:27:24.160 --> 00:27:29.440
the meat taste different than it normally would. Well said,

595
00:27:30.119 --> 00:27:34.359
well you said this fucking turkey debate.

596
00:27:34.400 --> 00:27:34.960
God damn it.

597
00:27:35.400 --> 00:27:38.200
There wasn't even a debate, no talking about the turkeys.

598
00:27:38.240 --> 00:27:40.519
More so, I was I was doing a QC on

599
00:27:40.559 --> 00:27:42.880
Our on Our Dutch episode, and then I also had

600
00:27:42.880 --> 00:27:44.519
listened to the Ice Store episode, and I was just like,

601
00:27:44.599 --> 00:27:47.119
I I should have defended my argument better, but I

602
00:27:47.160 --> 00:27:48.599
really just do not have an argument.

603
00:27:48.680 --> 00:27:50.559
I just well, you don't have to have an argument,

604
00:27:50.759 --> 00:27:55.599
I like, especially on something as benign as this discussion.

605
00:27:56.200 --> 00:28:00.880
You could be wrong and it wouldn't even be that bad. Yeah,

606
00:28:00.920 --> 00:28:03.279
like you could. It could just be that you don't

607
00:28:03.359 --> 00:28:04.880
like the way turkey's prepared for you.

608
00:28:05.160 --> 00:28:07.960
I will say, I've never had a Christmas with a duck,

609
00:28:08.000 --> 00:28:09.400
and I really want Christmas with a duck.

610
00:28:09.400 --> 00:28:10.200
One. I only had the one.

611
00:28:10.279 --> 00:28:12.160
Yeah you did the didn't you cook it yourself?

612
00:28:12.279 --> 00:28:14.599
Yeah? Yeah, it was only Rachel and I because yeah,

613
00:28:14.599 --> 00:28:17.279
my mother, you know, is very weird about the holidays,

614
00:28:17.599 --> 00:28:20.079
and her parents got COVID that year. Yeah. This was

615
00:28:20.160 --> 00:28:24.359
twenty twenty one, I think so, yeah, and they had COVID.

616
00:28:24.440 --> 00:28:27.720
So it was just us on things on Christmas Day. Yeah.

617
00:28:27.799 --> 00:28:30.200
So and we knew thank good, as we knew like

618
00:28:30.200 --> 00:28:32.960
two days out or something. So we were at the

619
00:28:33.000 --> 00:28:35.319
grocery store and I saw a duck. I was like,

620
00:28:35.400 --> 00:28:40.240
let's roost a duck. And it was amazing. But uh,

621
00:28:40.400 --> 00:28:42.759
it's a lot of work. Yeah, and to get it

622
00:28:42.839 --> 00:28:46.079
good is even more work. And there's not that much

623
00:28:46.119 --> 00:28:49.759
meat on it. So we were actually like still kind

624
00:28:49.759 --> 00:28:55.039
of hungry. But using the duck fat to make mashed

625
00:28:55.079 --> 00:28:58.279
potatoes was amazing. I would say, so probably, Oh god,

626
00:28:58.279 --> 00:28:58.839
it was so good.

627
00:28:58.880 --> 00:28:59.519
Well, I feel like it.

628
00:28:59.519 --> 00:29:01.880
Did I try those? I cannot remember?

629
00:29:01.960 --> 00:29:03.799
I can't remember either, but it was I remember you

630
00:29:03.799 --> 00:29:04.480
saying it was really good.

631
00:29:04.640 --> 00:29:07.319
Yeah, well, we made mashed potatoes and duck fat gravy. Yah,

632
00:29:07.319 --> 00:29:07.720
that's what it was.

633
00:29:07.720 --> 00:29:09.720
See, I just had duck recently when we went to

634
00:29:09.920 --> 00:29:12.240
the Thai restaurant in.

635
00:29:13.680 --> 00:29:14.440
Strong Asville.

636
00:29:14.920 --> 00:29:17.839
I mean Asian style duck. Is this phenomenon was?

637
00:29:17.920 --> 00:29:18.599
It was to die for it.

638
00:29:18.759 --> 00:29:22.599
We actually had a plan that if I ruined the duck,

639
00:29:22.720 --> 00:29:27.200
I never roast anything if I touched it. If I

640
00:29:27.519 --> 00:29:30.160
had ruined that that roast duck. We had a backup

641
00:29:30.200 --> 00:29:34.359
plan because CJ. Chan you can get a whole duck.

642
00:29:34.400 --> 00:29:35.440
Oh hell yeah.

643
00:29:35.559 --> 00:29:38.720
So we had the backup plan that if it was wrecked,

644
00:29:39.160 --> 00:29:41.359
we had just enough time to call CJ. Chan and

645
00:29:41.400 --> 00:29:44.400
put in order for a fried duck. So that was

646
00:29:44.400 --> 00:29:47.160
our backup. Do you remember what they charged as probably

647
00:29:47.200 --> 00:29:48.039
like forty dollars.

648
00:29:48.640 --> 00:29:49.480
Let me look into that.

649
00:29:50.079 --> 00:29:52.000
I mean, duck's expensive, yeah.

650
00:29:51.799 --> 00:29:53.920
But I just I want to try something now for Christmas.

651
00:29:54.079 --> 00:29:59.079
I mean, any Asian, any Asian restaurant is going to

652
00:29:59.119 --> 00:30:03.119
have duck, especially if they're Tie or Chinese, They're gonna

653
00:30:03.119 --> 00:30:03.519
have duck.

654
00:30:03.640 --> 00:30:04.799
I'm definitely gonna seek that out.

655
00:30:06.880 --> 00:30:17.680
Do You Even movie? We'll be right back, welcome back

656
00:30:17.720 --> 00:30:19.440
to Do You Even Movie?

657
00:30:24.319 --> 00:30:26.599
So at the ceilings roof against a prepper turkey, and

658
00:30:26.640 --> 00:30:28.640
at the Avila's we see them stuffing the turkey and

659
00:30:28.640 --> 00:30:31.160
getting it ready for the oven. And then at the Williams,

660
00:30:31.519 --> 00:30:34.319
Audrey is up prepping the dinner and Grace wakes up

661
00:30:34.359 --> 00:30:36.640
and she starts questioning if the turkey is big enough,

662
00:30:36.680 --> 00:30:38.200
commenting on how back in the day they had to

663
00:30:38.200 --> 00:30:41.759
buy three turkeys, and also basically just asking, you know,

664
00:30:41.799 --> 00:30:44.599
what's mushroom shataki gravy, like looking over the menu and

665
00:30:44.920 --> 00:30:47.039
questioning everything, and Audrey's stressing.

666
00:30:46.759 --> 00:30:47.799
Out, yeah, she's meddling.

667
00:30:48.319 --> 00:30:51.079
She is absolutely meddling. So that is when she also

668
00:30:51.200 --> 00:30:53.720
asked where Ronald is and she informs her that the

669
00:30:53.720 --> 00:30:55.599
governor had a photo op at a church, passing out

670
00:30:55.599 --> 00:30:57.400
turkeys to the homeless, and she's like, oh, well, if

671
00:30:57.440 --> 00:30:59.640
he's at church, that's completely fine, because at first she

672
00:30:59.680 --> 00:31:01.400
was mad he was working on thanks Yah.

673
00:31:01.440 --> 00:31:03.920
She perks right up, oh he's at church, well that's fine.

674
00:31:04.039 --> 00:31:07.079
Then so at the Winds, Jenny is getting laundry together

675
00:31:07.160 --> 00:31:09.720
and she goes into Gary's room and under his bed

676
00:31:09.799 --> 00:31:12.240
she finds a paper bag. She looks inside it and

677
00:31:12.279 --> 00:31:16.000
that's when she reveals that there is a handgun inside them.

678
00:31:16.000 --> 00:31:18.200
The way they did it was great because she's gathering

679
00:31:18.240 --> 00:31:21.799
up dirty clothes for laundry. Yeah, and she decides to

680
00:31:21.880 --> 00:31:24.680
just be thorough, finds the bag and yeah, there's a

681
00:31:24.759 --> 00:31:25.559
handgun in there.

682
00:31:25.759 --> 00:31:27.759
So she goes out to confront him. And that's when

683
00:31:27.799 --> 00:31:29.440
her dad is like, hey, Jenny, here's the keys to

684
00:31:29.480 --> 00:31:31.240
the store, and you go open it shouldn't be busy.

685
00:31:31.319 --> 00:31:33.400
I'll be over in a few hours to close up

686
00:31:33.440 --> 00:31:35.759
and then you can come back. So she ends up

687
00:31:35.839 --> 00:31:39.319
leaving and that's when at the ceilings, Ruth enters the

688
00:31:39.480 --> 00:31:41.839
room to see Rachel and Carla laying in bed together

689
00:31:41.880 --> 00:31:44.519
because originally when she knocks on the door or Carla

690
00:31:44.559 --> 00:31:46.279
goes the other bed and Rachel's like, no, no, get

691
00:31:46.279 --> 00:31:46.720
over here.

692
00:31:47.200 --> 00:31:50.240
Yeah. Well, and we should mention that they pushed the

693
00:31:50.319 --> 00:31:53.599
twin beds together. They did as close as they could

694
00:31:53.599 --> 00:31:57.119
get they did, which is hilariously wholesome.

695
00:31:57.240 --> 00:31:59.000
Well, and the whole thing is Irv is out front

696
00:31:59.000 --> 00:32:00.759
and he's like, you know, they come out for coffee,

697
00:32:00.759 --> 00:32:02.599
you don't need to go in there because he knows

698
00:32:02.640 --> 00:32:04.279
that she's going to be distraught when she comes out,

699
00:32:04.359 --> 00:32:05.039
which she is.

700
00:32:05.440 --> 00:32:09.319
Yeah, I do love that, Like they're not totally clueless though,

701
00:32:09.559 --> 00:32:11.839
I mean, how could they be? Yeah, but of course

702
00:32:11.880 --> 00:32:14.160
when you meet the next generation of their family, there

703
00:32:14.160 --> 00:32:16.000
as clueless as you get, clueless as you get.

704
00:32:16.039 --> 00:32:18.200
So she leaves at the heavy sigh and her even questions,

705
00:32:18.200 --> 00:32:20.559
what did you expect? So at the Avila's, Jenny and

706
00:32:20.640 --> 00:32:22.960
Johnny are Gina and Johnny arrive and that's when Lizzie

707
00:32:23.000 --> 00:32:24.799
places a big hug on her, gives her a kiss,

708
00:32:24.799 --> 00:32:27.400
and she welcomes Jimmy to their house. Anthony gives her

709
00:32:27.440 --> 00:32:29.400
a hug as she comes in the house as well,

710
00:32:29.440 --> 00:32:30.720
and she introduces.

711
00:32:30.279 --> 00:32:31.839
Him to Jimmy one of the family.

712
00:32:31.880 --> 00:32:34.359
As Anthony sits back down, is like, you know, he

713
00:32:34.400 --> 00:32:36.759
didn't expect her boyfriend to be Chinese, and Anthony goes,

714
00:32:36.799 --> 00:32:42.039
I didn't, either shut up and watch the game. Yeah yeah,

715
00:32:42.119 --> 00:32:45.039
So Lizzie questions where is he from and that's when

716
00:32:45.039 --> 00:32:46.880
he tells it he was born in Vietnam and she says,

717
00:32:46.880 --> 00:32:48.640
that's not what I was asking about. You know, where's

718
00:32:48.640 --> 00:32:50.359
your family at and he's like, oh, well, they live

719
00:32:50.400 --> 00:32:53.480
in Westminster, before offering if you know, do you guys

720
00:32:53.480 --> 00:32:55.559
want to take a nap, shower, freshen up and that's

721
00:32:55.559 --> 00:32:57.200
when they decide to go take a shower.

722
00:32:58.440 --> 00:33:00.720
That one, and I love that par too, because he says,

723
00:33:00.720 --> 00:33:02.519
you know, I was born in Vietnam and she's like, no, no,

724
00:33:02.720 --> 00:33:07.000
she said, your family's from La. Yeah, so we're in La. Yeah.

725
00:33:07.039 --> 00:33:09.680
So that's when we see that Jimmy is in the

726
00:33:09.680 --> 00:33:12.440
shower and Gina surprises him, and that's when also Lizzie

727
00:33:12.480 --> 00:33:14.359
surprises them. She knocks on the door and she's like,

728
00:33:14.400 --> 00:33:15.599
you know, do you all want something to eat? And

729
00:33:15.640 --> 00:33:18.119
Jimmy's like, no, we're fine, And she can tell.

730
00:33:17.960 --> 00:33:18.440
What's going on.

731
00:33:18.440 --> 00:33:19.920
It's on the door, and she just smiles.

732
00:33:20.160 --> 00:33:22.240
Yeah. She just thinks it's kind of funny that that.

733
00:33:22.720 --> 00:33:22.920
Yeah.

734
00:33:22.960 --> 00:33:25.000
Well, I mean it's not like it wasn't his idea.

735
00:33:25.039 --> 00:33:27.480
It was that it was that shiksa. Yeah, not the

736
00:33:27.599 --> 00:33:30.079
I mean, I like saying shiksa When he's Vietnamese and

737
00:33:30.119 --> 00:33:34.480
she's Mexican. It's even funnier. I mean, it's still true.

738
00:33:34.720 --> 00:33:37.039
So at the video store, Jenny calls her boyfriend and

739
00:33:37.079 --> 00:33:38.319
she's like, you know, I need to talk to you.

740
00:33:38.359 --> 00:33:40.200
Can you please come see me? And that's when we

741
00:33:40.200 --> 00:33:42.480
cut back to the ceilings where Carla, Ruth and Rachel

742
00:33:42.519 --> 00:33:44.880
are all working on the turkey together, and she informs

743
00:33:44.880 --> 00:33:48.039
her that she's invited more family because the elderly family

744
00:33:48.079 --> 00:33:49.799
is at the nursing home, nobody comes to see them.

745
00:33:49.799 --> 00:33:51.440
They have a small thing, and she wants them to

746
00:33:51.440 --> 00:33:52.960
feel invited to their home.

747
00:33:53.160 --> 00:33:53.480
Duh.

748
00:33:53.960 --> 00:33:56.000
So Carla goes out to see herb who is checking

749
00:33:56.000 --> 00:33:58.200
the hot tub, and he starts telling her about the temperature.

750
00:33:58.279 --> 00:34:00.359
She tries to talk in about how she uses a

751
00:34:00.400 --> 00:34:02.759
hot tub back where her home is, and he is

752
00:34:02.920 --> 00:34:04.640
just kind of goes past her and starts talking about

753
00:34:04.759 --> 00:34:07.160
good for circulation, you know, shouldn't be at it too long,

754
00:34:07.200 --> 00:34:08.280
it's bad for the kidneys.

755
00:34:08.559 --> 00:34:10.760
Well, he just starts giving her a spiel because he's

756
00:34:10.800 --> 00:34:12.519
really into his hot tub.

757
00:34:12.639 --> 00:34:13.599
Yeah, he absolutely is.

758
00:34:14.039 --> 00:34:16.840
So meanwhile with the Williams, Grace goes over to goes

759
00:34:16.840 --> 00:34:19.599
over Audrey's dishes for Thanksgiving and she asked, you know,

760
00:34:19.599 --> 00:34:21.159
are you gonna call Michael, when she's like, oh, call

761
00:34:21.199 --> 00:34:23.119
him a little bit, and that's when she even offers

762
00:34:23.119 --> 00:34:24.880
to whip up a batch of macaroni and cheese, and

763
00:34:24.920 --> 00:34:28.599
Audrey's like, you know, sometimes it's good to try something new,

764
00:34:29.239 --> 00:34:31.239
and she again is close to losing it and right.

765
00:34:31.280 --> 00:34:33.800
At this point, Ronald comes home with flowers and he's like, hey,

766
00:34:33.880 --> 00:34:35.800
you know you have me for the rest of the weekend,

767
00:34:36.320 --> 00:34:40.119
and that's when he also she goes to basically give

768
00:34:40.119 --> 00:34:41.960
his mama hug, and that's when Audrey's like, you need

769
00:34:42.000 --> 00:34:44.159
to get ready. So Audrey then confronts Ronald in the

770
00:34:44.199 --> 00:34:46.639
next room about Grace, telling him that she keeps asking

771
00:34:46.679 --> 00:34:49.880
about Michael and it's and that's when she reminds him

772
00:34:49.880 --> 00:34:51.960
that it's his fault that he's not coming home. She

773
00:34:52.039 --> 00:34:54.079
also tells him that she resents him for putting her

774
00:34:54.119 --> 00:34:56.960
in this situation, and Ronald says, don't worry, I'll handle

775
00:34:57.000 --> 00:34:57.360
my mother.

776
00:34:57.599 --> 00:34:59.880
We'll get through this. It's Thanksgiving and gives her a.

777
00:34:59.840 --> 00:35:03.039
Bit God, you're in good hand in goods.

778
00:35:03.800 --> 00:35:06.760
So that is when we cut to the most beautiful

779
00:35:06.880 --> 00:35:09.880
food montage set to wipe out once again in different

780
00:35:09.920 --> 00:35:12.320
beads as it goes with each ethnicity. As we just cut,

781
00:35:12.519 --> 00:35:16.360
different musical styles styles, yes, thank you, and various dishes

782
00:35:16.360 --> 00:35:18.880
are being prepared on screen. I mean, can we even

783
00:35:19.000 --> 00:35:20.159
name half of them?

784
00:35:20.320 --> 00:35:22.880
Well, I mean it's easy for me because in the

785
00:35:22.880 --> 00:35:26.320
Mexican family, they're making tamales, oh yeah, and they've been

786
00:35:26.320 --> 00:35:30.079
making tamales even a couple of scenes earlier, because tamales

787
00:35:30.119 --> 00:35:33.760
is a family wide thing. When you decide to make tamales,

788
00:35:33.800 --> 00:35:37.239
you make you know, fifty of them because it's a

789
00:35:37.280 --> 00:35:40.599
lot of work. But uh, I mean, but but the fight.

790
00:35:40.760 --> 00:35:42.880
The Mexican family, they have tamales, and they have rice,

791
00:35:42.920 --> 00:35:44.280
and they have all these but they also have mashed

792
00:35:44.280 --> 00:35:47.920
potatoes and the turkey, and there's like a very strong,

793
00:35:48.599 --> 00:35:53.960
uh mix of traditional foods from both their culture and

794
00:35:53.960 --> 00:35:59.559
and more of the traditional American culture. The Vietnamese family

795
00:35:59.599 --> 00:36:03.599
there may making white rice, they're making chili oil, They're

796
00:36:03.599 --> 00:36:09.239
making dumplings, a lot of dumplings. So I mean, but yeah,

797
00:36:09.280 --> 00:36:10.639
there's an immense amount of food.

798
00:36:10.679 --> 00:36:12.440
I mean, we even cut the grace who is making

799
00:36:12.480 --> 00:36:14.559
some macaroni and cheese for the feast.

800
00:36:14.719 --> 00:36:17.000
She got to make it. And don't forget the polenta.

801
00:36:17.119 --> 00:36:20.239
Oh yeah, yeah, they made polenta at the Jewish family's

802
00:36:20.280 --> 00:36:26.039
house because the rachel's girlfriend is a vegetarian. That is correct,

803
00:36:26.360 --> 00:36:27.880
But it does pretty good if you know how to

804
00:36:27.880 --> 00:36:28.360
make it right.

805
00:36:28.440 --> 00:36:30.199
I've had it recently and I can't remember where it was.

806
00:36:31.360 --> 00:36:34.440
I feel like it was a dinner. I went I

807
00:36:34.480 --> 00:36:36.880
can't even remember now, I know I had it recently,

808
00:36:36.880 --> 00:36:38.159
like in the last year or so.

809
00:36:38.239 --> 00:36:40.039
I mean it would have been at an Italian restaurant

810
00:36:40.039 --> 00:36:43.760
probably probably, or a like a vegan place.

811
00:36:43.840 --> 00:36:47.159
Okay, So at the Avila's, Johnny helps Lizzie get something

812
00:36:47.199 --> 00:36:49.000
off a high shelf, and that is when in the

813
00:36:49.079 --> 00:36:51.480
kitchen we see all the women start speaking in Spanish,

814
00:36:51.519 --> 00:36:53.519
commenting on what a nice buddy has and how cute

815
00:36:53.559 --> 00:36:56.639
he is, unaware that Jimmy can speak Spanish.

816
00:36:56.719 --> 00:36:59.719
Yeah, the way he handles it is he just tells

817
00:37:00.519 --> 00:37:04.320
that he's happy to be at her service in clear Spanish,

818
00:37:04.360 --> 00:37:05.800
and they all laugh out loud.

819
00:37:06.360 --> 00:37:08.079
So Jimmy and Gina joined the rest of the crew

820
00:37:08.079 --> 00:37:11.239
in the living room watching football, but Gina pulls Anthony aside,

821
00:37:11.320 --> 00:37:13.639
asking him, you know how mom's doing, and he comments,

822
00:37:13.719 --> 00:37:15.360
she looks a lot better than dad, who he ran

823
00:37:15.360 --> 00:37:17.960
into yesterday and he looked like shit, even telling him

824
00:37:18.320 --> 00:37:20.599
that he knows he screwed up, and Gina comments, you know,

825
00:37:20.639 --> 00:37:22.920
messing up with his wife's cousin is pretty screwed up

826
00:37:22.960 --> 00:37:27.119
to begin with. Yeah, yeah, So Anthony also informs her

827
00:37:27.159 --> 00:37:29.039
that he invited their dad, but he left a message

828
00:37:29.039 --> 00:37:31.039
on the machine telling him not to come, so everything

829
00:37:31.079 --> 00:37:31.840
should be okay.

830
00:37:32.480 --> 00:37:35.400
Yeah, that's how voicemail or how answering machines worked, you know, yeah,

831
00:37:35.400 --> 00:37:36.239
before a voicemail.

832
00:37:36.320 --> 00:37:38.400
So back at the Ceilings, Carla calls her mother as

833
00:37:38.480 --> 00:37:41.000
Ruth and Rachel prep pie crust, and Ruth comments on

834
00:37:41.039 --> 00:37:43.039
her relationship with her mother because Carla is on the

835
00:37:43.039 --> 00:37:45.119
phone with their mother, and Ruth adds that all she

836
00:37:45.159 --> 00:37:46.920
wants for Rachel was for her to be happy with

837
00:37:46.960 --> 00:37:48.840
the family, and that's when Rachel tells her that she

838
00:37:49.000 --> 00:37:51.960
is happy and you know, the family thing, she'll figure

839
00:37:52.000 --> 00:37:52.320
it out.

840
00:37:52.679 --> 00:37:53.400
Yeah.

841
00:37:53.519 --> 00:37:57.800
Meanwhile, Audrey's friends Audrey and Ronald's friends James and Paula

842
00:37:58.000 --> 00:38:02.079
arrive with the stepdaughter, Monica, and that is when we

843
00:38:02.159 --> 00:38:04.519
also see that she's been a paining the ass all day.

844
00:38:04.559 --> 00:38:06.760
The family's not really hip to Monica.

845
00:38:07.280 --> 00:38:08.960
Yeah, they're not really feeling it.

846
00:38:09.039 --> 00:38:11.400
So at the Avila's, Tony sits down with Jimmy asking

847
00:38:11.440 --> 00:38:13.480
about his family, and Jimmy tells him that they're pretty

848
00:38:13.480 --> 00:38:15.920
close and that's something. Tony even asked him if he's

849
00:38:15.920 --> 00:38:18.159
ever seen Jackie Chan and you know, they also share

850
00:38:18.280 --> 00:38:21.480
like his like stuntwork is amazing. Admiring his stunts, but

851
00:38:21.599 --> 00:38:24.519
not adding that he's not as amazing as Bruce Lee

852
00:38:24.519 --> 00:38:25.400
because Bruce Lee.

853
00:38:25.320 --> 00:38:28.079
Is boss well, and this is him trying he's not.

854
00:38:28.199 --> 00:38:31.239
He's trying to make him feel welcome by finding something

855
00:38:31.280 --> 00:38:33.440
they might have in common to talk about. Yeah. So,

856
00:38:33.679 --> 00:38:37.000
and also, I mean, Jackie Chan is fucking badass Fleet

857
00:38:37.000 --> 00:38:40.280
story hell. In two thousand, Jackie Chan was like at his.

858
00:38:40.360 --> 00:38:43.559
Peak, Rush Hour was out. I can't remember, Fresh Hour

859
00:38:43.599 --> 00:38:46.719
two was out. I feel like it was, man, I.

860
00:38:46.679 --> 00:38:48.639
Don't know, but he was still like he was his peak.

861
00:38:48.719 --> 00:38:50.960
He had like another another five to ten years of

862
00:38:51.000 --> 00:38:53.679
doing his own stunts. Yeah, still at that point.

863
00:38:54.039 --> 00:38:56.320
So at the Williams, James and Ronald sit out back

864
00:38:56.360 --> 00:38:59.280
and enjoying some wine. Inside, Audrey tells Paula that Michael

865
00:38:59.320 --> 00:39:01.960
most likely isn't coming, and in the living room, Kristen

866
00:39:02.239 --> 00:39:05.800
and the other little girl play Thanksgiving and they ask

867
00:39:05.880 --> 00:39:08.960
Monica if she wants to join. Monica then is like,

868
00:39:09.000 --> 00:39:10.599
you know, this is sick. And that's when Grace sits

869
00:39:10.599 --> 00:39:12.000
down and she's like, oh, what do y'all do? And

870
00:39:12.119 --> 00:39:15.199
she's like, they're playing Thanksgiving. She's the mom, she's the dad,

871
00:39:15.280 --> 00:39:18.760
and I'm the alcoholic cult worshiping Satanic stepmother.

872
00:39:19.079 --> 00:39:20.679
And that's nice.

873
00:39:23.559 --> 00:39:25.880
So at the ceilings, Carl and Rachel sneak away for

874
00:39:25.960 --> 00:39:27.920
a kiss in Rachel's room, and that's when Rachel tells

875
00:39:27.920 --> 00:39:29.599
her that she almost told her mother, but she got

876
00:39:29.599 --> 00:39:31.880
too sad. We don't know exactly what they're talking about,

877
00:39:32.280 --> 00:39:34.440
and she doesn't want them to tell her uncle about

878
00:39:34.440 --> 00:39:37.360
them because the uncle does not know that they are gay. Right,

879
00:39:37.920 --> 00:39:40.079
So that's when the doorbell sounds as the company begins

880
00:39:40.079 --> 00:39:42.480
to arrive. At the ceilings, we also meet Aunt Bee

881
00:39:42.480 --> 00:39:46.360
and Uncle David, as Rachel introduces her as roommate Carla

882
00:39:47.000 --> 00:39:51.199
ah roommate. So at the Avila's, Lizzie tells Gina to

883
00:39:51.239 --> 00:39:53.960
set an extra place during dessert for her visitor, Daniel,

884
00:39:54.000 --> 00:39:55.960
who she met at the school and he is going

885
00:39:56.039 --> 00:39:58.159
to be stopping by to shared dessert with them. At

886
00:39:58.159 --> 00:40:00.920
the ceilings, Rachel's brother Art and his wife Sarah arrived

887
00:40:00.960 --> 00:40:03.880
with their kids, whom herb immediately latches onto because that's

888
00:40:03.880 --> 00:40:06.239
the grand babies and oh yeah, waste no time showing

889
00:40:06.280 --> 00:40:08.880
them the turkey and playing with them. And at the

890
00:40:08.880 --> 00:40:11.920
Avilas Gina and Jimmy Peel cornhusk on the back as

891
00:40:11.960 --> 00:40:13.800
she tells him he can go visit his family, but

892
00:40:13.880 --> 00:40:16.440
Jimmy tells her he can't be himself around them, and

893
00:40:16.480 --> 00:40:18.440
that's when Lizzie comes out, requesting for them to go

894
00:40:18.760 --> 00:40:22.039
get more butter and also return some videotapes to the store.

895
00:40:22.480 --> 00:40:24.440
I have some videotapes I need to return.

896
00:40:26.559 --> 00:40:37.360
Do You Even Movie? Will be right back. Welcome back

897
00:40:37.400 --> 00:40:41.280
to Do You Even Movie?

898
00:40:44.079 --> 00:40:45.480
Jimmy's Family's video store.

899
00:40:45.480 --> 00:40:48.400
To be percise, yes, yes, the Vietnamese family own a

900
00:40:48.480 --> 00:40:51.559
video store yeah, and which is kind of shown at

901
00:40:51.559 --> 00:40:54.559
the beginning too, because it appears that everybody in this

902
00:40:54.679 --> 00:40:57.360
neighborhood rents from the videos from Yeah.

903
00:40:57.519 --> 00:41:00.079
So at the video store, Jenny's boyfriend arrives as she

904
00:41:00.119 --> 00:41:02.440
shows him the gun and she says she found under

905
00:41:02.480 --> 00:41:04.320
Gary's bed. He starts to freak out and he's like,

906
00:41:04.320 --> 00:41:05.360
you know, what are you doing with the gun, and

907
00:41:05.400 --> 00:41:07.719
she's like, it's not mine. I found it in Gary's bed.

908
00:41:07.920 --> 00:41:10.199
Her boyfriend immediately gets to freak out a little bit more,

909
00:41:10.239 --> 00:41:12.719
and that's when at the Winds Jinny calls the house

910
00:41:12.760 --> 00:41:14.519
and her father answers and he tells her that he's

911
00:41:14.519 --> 00:41:16.000
gonna come to the store soon to close it up

912
00:41:16.000 --> 00:41:18.039
because her mother needs her back in the kitchen. She

913
00:41:18.079 --> 00:41:20.400
has to speak to Gary, and that's when she asked

914
00:41:20.480 --> 00:41:22.519
him about the gun. Gary asked her what did she

915
00:41:22.559 --> 00:41:24.760
do with it? And it's not his, and that he's

916
00:41:24.880 --> 00:41:27.320
just looking after it for someone. He tells her not

917
00:41:27.360 --> 00:41:30.199
to say anything and he needs it back. Meanwhile, Gina

918
00:41:30.239 --> 00:41:32.960
and Jimmy arrive at the video store as Jimmy's father arrives.

919
00:41:33.039 --> 00:41:35.679
Jimmy then ducks down as his father and Gary go

920
00:41:35.719 --> 00:41:37.880
into the store, passing right by Gina, and that's when

921
00:41:37.920 --> 00:41:39.119
we hear a bit of a freak out. And that's

922
00:41:39.119 --> 00:41:41.039
when we see that Jimmy's father is not a fan

923
00:41:41.079 --> 00:41:41.960
of Jenny's boyfriend.

924
00:41:42.079 --> 00:41:46.199
Yeah, and I can see how that misunderstanding can come

925
00:41:46.199 --> 00:41:48.880
about because her boyfriend dresses a little on the street

926
00:41:48.960 --> 00:41:52.599
side for two thousand. But by the way he was

927
00:41:52.679 --> 00:41:54.599
talking to her, in the way he was handling the

928
00:41:54.599 --> 00:41:57.719
situation with a gun, it's very clear that he's not

929
00:41:58.280 --> 00:42:02.039
he doesn't have any he's not a troubled person. No,

930
00:42:02.239 --> 00:42:05.159
he's clearly a very straight, you know, thinking for a

931
00:42:05.199 --> 00:42:06.400
young guy. Yeah.

932
00:42:06.440 --> 00:42:08.599
So back at the Winds, Jenny's mother freaks out on

933
00:42:08.639 --> 00:42:11.079
her she calls her ungrateful. There's a big shouting match

934
00:42:11.079 --> 00:42:12.679
for a little bit, and that's when Jenny tries to

935
00:42:12.719 --> 00:42:14.920
tell her that she doesn't understand. Jenny by this point

936
00:42:15.000 --> 00:42:17.320
is just crying and just super upset, and so she

937
00:42:17.320 --> 00:42:19.440
storms off to her room, as trend says, you know

938
00:42:19.480 --> 00:42:21.480
this is done for now, you know, go go to

939
00:42:21.519 --> 00:42:24.039
your room. So she sits down and starts crying herself.

940
00:42:24.239 --> 00:42:26.960
That's when Grandma goes into Jenny's room with Gary behind her.

941
00:42:26.960 --> 00:42:28.960
She pushes Gary out because Gary's trying to talk to

942
00:42:29.039 --> 00:42:31.360
Jenny to get the gun back, obviously, of course, and

943
00:42:31.400 --> 00:42:33.840
that's when Grandma sits on her bed and starts stroking

944
00:42:33.840 --> 00:42:35.519
her hair, and she tells her that her brother is

945
00:42:35.599 --> 00:42:37.559
upset with her as well, and her bites her to

946
00:42:37.559 --> 00:42:39.440
come out to dinner, adding her mother didn't mean what

947
00:42:39.480 --> 00:42:42.320
she said and she's actually very proud of her. Jenny questions,

948
00:42:42.360 --> 00:42:44.360
then why can't she say that? And Grandma tells her

949
00:42:44.360 --> 00:42:46.280
that she needs to be more responsible and not make

950
00:42:46.320 --> 00:42:48.800
her life difficult both her and her mother's.

951
00:42:49.239 --> 00:42:52.679
Hmm, it's a hard pill to swallow now of this.

952
00:42:53.199 --> 00:42:55.639
At the ceilings, Art asked Rachel how's it's going with

953
00:42:55.679 --> 00:42:57.320
mom and dad as they sit out back playing with

954
00:42:57.320 --> 00:42:59.599
one of the grand babies, and that's when you know

955
00:42:59.719 --> 00:43:01.719
Rachel was just kind of like, well, you know, things

956
00:43:01.719 --> 00:43:05.079
are going okay. Jimmy then calls the wind family residence

957
00:43:05.079 --> 00:43:07.079
as his parents tell him about the issues with Jenny

958
00:43:07.119 --> 00:43:09.119
and that she's disgraced the family. They even ask if

959
00:43:09.159 --> 00:43:11.320
she'll speak to Jenny. They call her and she doesn't

960
00:43:11.320 --> 00:43:15.000
come out, and that's when she even asks Jimmy if

961
00:43:15.000 --> 00:43:18.159
they are giving away condoms in school. And as this happens,

962
00:43:18.239 --> 00:43:19.280
the smoke alarm.

963
00:43:18.960 --> 00:43:19.960
Starts to go off.

964
00:43:20.559 --> 00:43:24.599
Oh yeah, smoke, So that's when she rushes off the phone.

965
00:43:24.679 --> 00:43:26.639
Joey picks up the phone and he wishes Jimmy a

966
00:43:26.639 --> 00:43:29.320
happy Thanksgiving. The turkey has been burnt to a crisp

967
00:43:29.320 --> 00:43:30.920
as they pull it out of the oven, it's smoking.

968
00:43:30.960 --> 00:43:32.719
It's wrecked totally right.

969
00:43:33.280 --> 00:43:35.920
So meanwhile at the William's residence, the turkey is done,

970
00:43:35.960 --> 00:43:39.960
but Grace doesn't believe so, commenting as that it's even pink.

971
00:43:40.000 --> 00:43:42.519
And that's when Grace goes to stab the turkey and

972
00:43:42.679 --> 00:43:44.840
Audrey's like, don't stab my turkey, and she's like, it's pink.

973
00:43:44.880 --> 00:43:48.000
That's how people get sick, so that Audrey tells her

974
00:43:48.039 --> 00:43:50.119
that she's been cooking turkeys for twenty years, she knows

975
00:43:50.119 --> 00:43:52.639
when it's done. And that's when Grace has the lunch.

976
00:43:52.639 --> 00:43:54.119
She's like, oh, all right, you cook it your way,

977
00:43:54.119 --> 00:43:55.920
but just put mine in the microwave before you.

978
00:43:55.880 --> 00:43:58.000
Give it to me. Yeah, So then she just puts

979
00:43:58.000 --> 00:44:00.039
it back in the oven and lets it cook a

980
00:44:00.079 --> 00:44:00.679
little longer.

981
00:44:00.800 --> 00:44:03.480
So at the Avila's, the doorbell sounds and we find

982
00:44:03.480 --> 00:44:06.880
out that Javier has arrived as Tony's message did not

983
00:44:06.920 --> 00:44:07.440
get to him.

984
00:44:07.639 --> 00:44:09.360
Oh man, what a shock.

985
00:44:09.360 --> 00:44:11.679
And Lizzie is not pleased as Javier presents her with

986
00:44:11.719 --> 00:44:14.159
a bouquet of flowers out back of the Williams, and

987
00:44:14.199 --> 00:44:16.199
Grace joins Ronald out back as she tells him that

988
00:44:16.199 --> 00:44:18.039
Audrey yelled at her and chased her out of the kitchen,

989
00:44:18.079 --> 00:44:20.559
and Ronald tells her, please take it easy on Audrey,

990
00:44:20.599 --> 00:44:22.760
and you know she's trying as best she can. And

991
00:44:22.800 --> 00:44:24.760
that's when Grace also questions, you know, why do you

992
00:44:24.800 --> 00:44:27.840
have friends over and not family, even commenting maybe if

993
00:44:27.920 --> 00:44:30.280
Ronald spent more time with the family, Michael would feel

994
00:44:30.280 --> 00:44:35.239
welcome to join the family for Thanksgiving. So inside dinner

995
00:44:35.280 --> 00:44:38.320
is ready as Audrey has the turkey brought out, setting

996
00:44:38.320 --> 00:44:40.320
it on the middle of the table, as the table

997
00:44:40.360 --> 00:44:42.199
center completely collapses.

998
00:44:42.880 --> 00:44:47.519
Yeah, as a person who is currently looking at dining

999
00:44:47.599 --> 00:44:52.159
room tables, Yeah, to purchase they those are the ones

1000
00:44:52.199 --> 00:44:54.079
that have the extension tension.

1001
00:44:54.119 --> 00:44:54.880
Yeah, my parents have one.

1002
00:44:55.199 --> 00:44:58.559
Yeah, so that you can seat six people or three

1003
00:44:58.559 --> 00:45:02.199
people on each side, yeah, instead of four. And yeah,

1004
00:45:02.239 --> 00:45:07.119
it just completely gives. And her reaction to the turkey

1005
00:45:07.199 --> 00:45:11.679
falling is perfect. She screams out of surprise, but then

1006
00:45:11.960 --> 00:45:18.880
just starts like this mortified, like ha a, And it's

1007
00:45:18.920 --> 00:45:23.719
so believable because we know that she's going through something

1008
00:45:23.760 --> 00:45:27.039
really awful and we know that the family is fractured,

1009
00:45:28.119 --> 00:45:31.559
but she's trying to get through the meal and do

1010
00:45:31.639 --> 00:45:34.880
a good job. That's the one thing she has. That's

1011
00:45:34.880 --> 00:45:37.960
why she's getting so extra mad at her being second guest,

1012
00:45:38.039 --> 00:45:40.239
is she's like, I'm gonna make this meal good. So

1013
00:45:40.360 --> 00:45:43.719
her reaction of just like it, it didn't it ruined it,

1014
00:45:43.760 --> 00:45:45.440
I ruined it is just so good.

1015
00:45:45.639 --> 00:45:47.679
Well, and of course everybody rushes to raid. You got

1016
00:45:47.760 --> 00:45:50.440
Ronald who's like, you know, everything's okay. We've got Paula

1017
00:45:50.679 --> 00:45:54.559
and James who are trying to like pick up the

1018
00:45:54.639 --> 00:45:55.880
veggies and everything that have fallen off.

1019
00:45:55.920 --> 00:45:57.679
Well, the turkey didn't hit the floor. It didn't hit

1020
00:45:57.760 --> 00:45:58.079
the floor.

1021
00:45:58.239 --> 00:45:59.960
Yeah, like the plate hit the floor, but the turkey

1022
00:46:00.159 --> 00:46:02.159
completely fine. So they're trying to clean everything up, and

1023
00:46:02.159 --> 00:46:04.519
they're like, you know, it's fine, everybody calm down, you know,

1024
00:46:04.599 --> 00:46:06.280
Thanksgiving is gonna be okay.

1025
00:46:06.199 --> 00:46:09.360
And his his mother's older mother just keeps going, we

1026
00:46:09.400 --> 00:46:11.880
can rinse it off.

1027
00:46:12.599 --> 00:46:16.280
So that is when Audrey begins to freak out a

1028
00:46:16.320 --> 00:46:18.519
little bit more, but he finally calms her down. They

1029
00:46:18.519 --> 00:46:21.400
reset the turkey and the veggies with no hassle. Ronald

1030
00:46:21.440 --> 00:46:23.559
even tells everyone that, you know, they're still gonna have

1031
00:46:23.599 --> 00:46:25.639
a great day. We then cut back to the ceilings

1032
00:46:25.639 --> 00:46:27.679
where we see dinners ready as well as the turkey

1033
00:46:27.719 --> 00:46:30.559
is set down the villas. The turkey feast also begins,

1034
00:46:30.599 --> 00:46:33.360
and we see the Williams saving regain composure at the winds.

1035
00:46:33.599 --> 00:46:36.079
They bring in KFC buckets and Joey has never been

1036
00:46:36.119 --> 00:46:37.039
happier in his life.

1037
00:46:37.119 --> 00:46:39.440
Yeah, they just bring in two big buckets of the kernel,

1038
00:46:39.840 --> 00:46:43.079
and that young man he's going uh huh uh huh

1039
00:46:43.119 --> 00:46:47.719
and just chomping down on just whole drumsticks.

1040
00:46:47.480 --> 00:46:49.880
So we see also a prayer. Montage at this point

1041
00:46:49.880 --> 00:46:52.400
passes over the family dinners. The feast begins as we

1042
00:46:52.400 --> 00:46:54.639
see the food is dished out, passed around as everyone

1043
00:46:54.639 --> 00:46:57.639
fills their plates. Even Grace states to Audrey that mushrooms

1044
00:46:57.599 --> 00:46:59.639
talckey gravy is interesting.

1045
00:47:00.320 --> 00:47:03.519
Wow, what is she from Minnesota? And how are things

1046
00:47:03.519 --> 00:47:05.920
at their house? Oh, it's interesting.

1047
00:47:06.559 --> 00:47:09.920
So everyone's enjoying the food in the company at the Williams.

1048
00:47:10.000 --> 00:47:12.199
Grace requests that they go around the table and state

1049
00:47:12.280 --> 00:47:15.800
one thing that they're thankful for. But suddenly the doorbell sounds.

1050
00:47:16.079 --> 00:47:19.320
Oh no, and that's when we see that Michael has

1051
00:47:19.360 --> 00:47:22.320
showed up for Thanksgiving. After all. Clearly some are happier

1052
00:47:22.320 --> 00:47:24.599
than others, because we also get to see that Michael

1053
00:47:25.039 --> 00:47:26.599
may or may not have been the kid that threw

1054
00:47:26.639 --> 00:47:28.639
paint on Governor Roads in the beginning of the film.

1055
00:47:29.079 --> 00:47:30.599
Uh, I would say definitely.

1056
00:47:30.719 --> 00:47:32.199
Yeah, I would say definitely as well.

1057
00:47:32.440 --> 00:47:34.840
So that's when Grace requests that Ronald get another chair

1058
00:47:34.920 --> 00:47:36.840
so he can sit next to her, and Ronald questions,

1059
00:47:36.840 --> 00:47:38.679
did he change his mind? He could have called and

1060
00:47:38.719 --> 00:47:41.239
Audrey Stopson says, that's nonsense. He doesn't need to call

1061
00:47:41.280 --> 00:47:44.360
to come home. And by this point, Paula and James

1062
00:47:44.360 --> 00:47:46.039
have both been told about the situation with Michael, and

1063
00:47:46.079 --> 00:47:48.920
they're kind of snickering and also just kind of just.

1064
00:47:48.920 --> 00:47:51.000
Uneasy by the whole homecoming.

1065
00:47:50.559 --> 00:47:51.119
At this point.

1066
00:47:51.480 --> 00:47:53.960
Yeah, I mean, it's it's very very tense. Yeah.

1067
00:47:54.000 --> 00:47:56.559
So at the Avila's hobby, Are tells a joke something

1068
00:47:56.559 --> 00:47:59.519
along the lines of there's a whino that is walking

1069
00:47:59.559 --> 00:48:01.559
along and he sees a woman breastfeeding her baby in

1070
00:48:01.599 --> 00:48:04.280
the whino says, excuse me, but your baby invited me

1071
00:48:04.320 --> 00:48:05.159
to dinner, and.

1072
00:48:05.920 --> 00:48:07.719
He invited me to be a guest to dinner.

1073
00:48:07.840 --> 00:48:10.480
Yeah, so everybody lasts, and that's when we also see

1074
00:48:10.480 --> 00:48:13.559
the Avier starts doing an impersonation of Bruce Lee to

1075
00:48:13.639 --> 00:48:15.239
Jimmy You'd being like, you know, do you know who

1076
00:48:15.239 --> 00:48:17.719
that is? And it's actually a pretty cute scene, honestly.

1077
00:48:17.719 --> 00:48:22.000
Well, you know, he's It's clear that Javier is used

1078
00:48:22.079 --> 00:48:26.239
to being the patriarch. He's used to being the very

1079
00:48:26.679 --> 00:48:30.480
the loud, funny, charming guy. He's very charming person, very

1080
00:48:30.480 --> 00:48:31.079
hands So the.

1081
00:48:31.000 --> 00:48:33.360
Family embrace most of the family embraces him when he

1082
00:48:33.360 --> 00:48:33.760
comes over.

1083
00:48:33.920 --> 00:48:38.440
Well, the table is almost entirely split by by the genders.

1084
00:48:39.159 --> 00:48:41.480
So you have like all the men and his oldest

1085
00:48:41.480 --> 00:48:43.639
son who he ran into at the grocery store. Of course,

1086
00:48:43.639 --> 00:48:45.760
his wife is next to him, but then on the

1087
00:48:45.800 --> 00:48:50.159
other side is the mom with her abuela and Jimmy. Yeah,

1088
00:48:50.320 --> 00:48:54.920
it's so like it's there is a bit of a divide,

1089
00:48:55.440 --> 00:48:58.079
which you know, it's very tense. Having them both on

1090
00:48:58.199 --> 00:49:01.000
either head of the table is very perfect and telling.

1091
00:49:01.079 --> 00:49:03.280
That's great. But yeah, he's he's clearly, you know, he's

1092
00:49:03.280 --> 00:49:07.719
so used to being the guy entertaining everybody and making

1093
00:49:07.719 --> 00:49:13.599
everybody laugh, and his jokes are they're going over okay,

1094
00:49:13.719 --> 00:49:16.400
on the other side of the table at best. Yeah, so,

1095
00:49:16.519 --> 00:49:18.119
and he's not used to that. He's not used to

1096
00:49:18.159 --> 00:49:19.800
getting glares instead of laughter.

1097
00:49:19.880 --> 00:49:23.480
Yeah, Lizzie is not having it. She's not exactly I

1098
00:49:23.480 --> 00:49:26.679
don't say, I wouldn't say, like giving him death eyes,

1099
00:49:26.719 --> 00:49:27.840
but she's just kind.

1100
00:49:27.639 --> 00:49:30.280
Of oh no, she's humoring him. Yeah, no, I mean

1101
00:49:30.320 --> 00:49:33.440
she's completely just like, well, okay, so.

1102
00:49:33.480 --> 00:49:36.320
At the ceilings, Aunt Bee starts to question Carla about

1103
00:49:36.360 --> 00:49:38.400
her life, even asking her, you know, how do you

1104
00:49:38.480 --> 00:49:40.760
like the area? You know, how where'd you come from?

1105
00:49:40.840 --> 00:49:42.559
And all this stuff and Rachel and how her and

1106
00:49:42.639 --> 00:49:44.840
Rachel became roommates, and Rachel states that they met at

1107
00:49:44.840 --> 00:49:48.000
work and be also mistakes the polenta for jello.

1108
00:49:48.639 --> 00:49:49.880
I thought that was jello.

1109
00:49:50.760 --> 00:49:53.599
So back at the Williams, everyone is going around the

1110
00:49:53.599 --> 00:49:56.199
table as Paul expresses her gratitude and having friends to

1111
00:49:56.239 --> 00:49:58.920
invite them over for dinner. Ronald states he's grateful for

1112
00:49:58.960 --> 00:50:01.800
his wife and his children, which doesn't really set well

1113
00:50:01.800 --> 00:50:04.239
with Audrey, and Michael states that he's happy to be home.

1114
00:50:04.480 --> 00:50:07.440
Monica then closes by thanking the fellow Native Americans who

1115
00:50:07.440 --> 00:50:09.880
gave this land for measles and casinos, and that's when

1116
00:50:09.880 --> 00:50:11.800
they kind of end what everybody's grateful for.

1117
00:50:12.000 --> 00:50:14.000
Well, she's a little edge, lord, you know, just a

1118
00:50:14.000 --> 00:50:14.400
little bit.

1119
00:50:16.679 --> 00:50:27.480
Do you even movie will be right back, welcome back

1120
00:50:27.559 --> 00:50:29.239
to do you even movie?

1121
00:50:34.039 --> 00:50:35.880
So James asked Michael what he's been up to, as

1122
00:50:35.920 --> 00:50:38.559
Michael confesses to his grandma that he's actually taken some

1123
00:50:38.599 --> 00:50:41.199
time off from college and he's maybe not planning on

1124
00:50:41.239 --> 00:50:45.559
going back. Ronald asked, you know about Santa Barbara USC

1125
00:50:45.800 --> 00:50:47.440
and how it's a great school, and Michael states that

1126
00:50:47.440 --> 00:50:49.719
there's no black people there and that's in Ronald questions,

1127
00:50:49.760 --> 00:50:50.920
what does he think that he's going to do with

1128
00:50:50.960 --> 00:50:52.679
the degree in African American Studies?

1129
00:50:54.039 --> 00:50:57.679
I mean, I guess teach African American studies. That's always

1130
00:50:57.719 --> 00:51:00.280
what I say when I hear somebody studying something that

1131
00:51:00.320 --> 00:51:02.760
there's no like active job in. Yeah, well I guess

1132
00:51:02.760 --> 00:51:03.480
you could teach it.

1133
00:51:03.599 --> 00:51:06.480
Then, so Monica questions what he thinks about the Holy

1134
00:51:06.559 --> 00:51:09.159
Bonics thing, and that's when Michael was like, I like you.

1135
00:51:09.360 --> 00:51:10.960
Well, at first TV he asks kind of like, what

1136
00:51:11.000 --> 00:51:12.719
the hell is her problem? Yeah, then he looks back

1137
00:51:12.719 --> 00:51:13.719
and he's like, yeah, I like you.

1138
00:51:14.079 --> 00:51:16.440
So at the ceilings, they get into a government Roads

1139
00:51:16.440 --> 00:51:19.039
discussion about his past incident or his pain incident, and

1140
00:51:19.079 --> 00:51:22.360
that's when Rachel's family minus her brother, basically all sign

1141
00:51:22.440 --> 00:51:24.159
up for Roads and say that they like that he

1142
00:51:24.199 --> 00:51:26.760
speaks his mind and that they're happy that he's in office.

1143
00:51:27.079 --> 00:51:29.360
And that's when Rachel cannot hold it any longer and

1144
00:51:29.400 --> 00:51:31.719
she's like, but he's a racist, anti gay.

1145
00:51:31.559 --> 00:51:33.960
Bigot, which basically shuts the table completely.

1146
00:51:34.079 --> 00:51:36.280
It makes the entire table quiet. Yeah.

1147
00:51:36.360 --> 00:51:38.679
So that is when we cut back to the Wins,

1148
00:51:38.719 --> 00:51:40.760
who question if Jimmy is eating today and how and

1149
00:51:40.800 --> 00:51:43.840
you know how he's probably doing at the avelash. Javier

1150
00:51:43.920 --> 00:51:46.280
asked what his family does to Jimmy, and that's what

1151
00:51:46.360 --> 00:51:48.800
he tells them about the video store. Javier also talks

1152
00:51:48.840 --> 00:51:51.199
about the first time meeting Lizzie's family and having dinner

1153
00:51:51.199 --> 00:51:52.800
with them and how he was so afraid of her

1154
00:51:52.800 --> 00:51:55.159
grandpa that he couldn't eat. And that's when a Boela

1155
00:51:55.239 --> 00:51:57.280
chimes in and says that if Grandpa was still alive,

1156
00:51:57.559 --> 00:52:01.760
Javier wouldn't have done what he did. M And that

1157
00:52:01.880 --> 00:52:03.480
also kind of shuts everybody up the head.

1158
00:52:03.559 --> 00:52:06.800
Yeah, No, that's a that's a mic drop. Yeah.

1159
00:52:06.840 --> 00:52:09.519
So by that point, Lizzie leaves the table and Hobbier

1160
00:52:09.639 --> 00:52:12.079
chases after her, telling her that he's sorry and that

1161
00:52:12.400 --> 00:52:15.000
she reminds him that Anthony invited him, and he tells

1162
00:52:15.000 --> 00:52:17.239
her that he still loves her and that she still

1163
00:52:17.239 --> 00:52:20.280
takes his breath away. The doorbell then sounds as Daniel

1164
00:52:20.400 --> 00:52:20.960
a ry.

1165
00:52:21.159 --> 00:52:23.199
Good when a doorbell rings in this film.

1166
00:52:23.000 --> 00:52:25.679
Daniel arrives with the pies Ah.

1167
00:52:25.559 --> 00:52:31.199
Yes, and a very believable entrance to the idea that

1168
00:52:31.239 --> 00:52:35.159
he's coming over just for dessert yeah, suggests that obviously

1169
00:52:35.239 --> 00:52:38.760
he has his own family obligations because it's Thanksgiving. Yeah,

1170
00:52:38.800 --> 00:52:40.960
so he was able to duck away just in time

1171
00:52:41.480 --> 00:52:42.519
for pie.

1172
00:52:42.800 --> 00:52:47.159
And for the record, Daniel, who is played by a Martinez.

1173
00:52:47.119 --> 00:52:48.840
Oh yeah, yeah, of course, yep.

1174
00:52:49.039 --> 00:52:53.000
So that is when we see that Javier is immediately

1175
00:52:53.800 --> 00:52:54.920
not thrilled with this.

1176
00:52:55.559 --> 00:52:56.840
I couldn't imagine why.

1177
00:52:56.760 --> 00:52:59.920
Because that's when Tony clearly also looks unsettled, and she

1178
00:53:00.159 --> 00:53:02.519
asked Daniel if he's feeling strong, and he says yeah.

1179
00:53:02.400 --> 00:53:03.639
And she replies good.

1180
00:53:03.760 --> 00:53:06.280
So she takes Daniel out back, introducing him to everyone

1181
00:53:06.320 --> 00:53:08.400
as the family is uneasy with the new guests. She

1182
00:53:08.480 --> 00:53:11.639
also introduces Daniel to Anthony, Gina, and Jimmy, but Hobber

1183
00:53:11.679 --> 00:53:14.519
speaks up, introducing himself as Lizzie's husband.

1184
00:53:15.000 --> 00:53:17.840
Well, I mean legally, he's correct, yeah.

1185
00:53:17.679 --> 00:53:19.599
And that's when he asked who Daniel is and Daniel

1186
00:53:19.679 --> 00:53:21.400
was like, well, I work with Lizzie at the school.

1187
00:53:21.440 --> 00:53:22.599
And that's when he's like, well, how long have you

1188
00:53:22.679 --> 00:53:24.599
known her? And they both say a few years at

1189
00:53:24.599 --> 00:53:25.159
the same time.

1190
00:53:25.280 --> 00:53:26.239
Yeah.

1191
00:53:26.320 --> 00:53:28.440
So back at the Williams, Michael states that he's working

1192
00:53:28.480 --> 00:53:30.039
as a teacher's aid and he wants to go to

1193
00:53:30.079 --> 00:53:32.639
Howard and that's when Grace is like, you know, isn't

1194
00:53:32.639 --> 00:53:34.480
that in DC? And Ronald questions if he thinks the

1195
00:53:34.480 --> 00:53:36.920
school will take him if he doesn't finish anything, and

1196
00:53:36.960 --> 00:53:39.400
Michael gives Ronald hell for working on the roads campaign,

1197
00:53:39.400 --> 00:53:42.599
who is against affirmative action. Ronald then takes the opportunity

1198
00:53:42.639 --> 00:53:45.199
to expose Michael as being the one who threw paint

1199
00:53:45.239 --> 00:53:46.079
on Governor Rhodes.

1200
00:53:46.639 --> 00:53:48.800
Yeah. I mean it was bound to come out eventually, Yeah,

1201
00:53:48.800 --> 00:53:50.000
but of course all things.

1202
00:53:50.320 --> 00:53:52.719
And that's when too Grandma tells him that's not right.

1203
00:53:52.800 --> 00:53:55.599
And then Michael then exposes Ronald by telling him her

1204
00:53:55.639 --> 00:53:59.760
to ask him who Lisa is m and that's when

1205
00:53:59.840 --> 00:54:01.960
ron tells him that's enough. And Ronald is pissed at

1206
00:54:01.960 --> 00:54:05.639
this point, and Audrey leaves the table, Grace joins Ronald

1207
00:54:05.760 --> 00:54:09.119
or Grace joins Michael and Audrey in the kitchen, and

1208
00:54:09.119 --> 00:54:11.760
that's when Michael says that his father had an affair

1209
00:54:11.800 --> 00:54:13.480
with Lisa, who I believe is a secretary.

1210
00:54:13.760 --> 00:54:16.719
Yeah, somebody from work, Yeah, which is why it's extra

1211
00:54:16.800 --> 00:54:18.760
grading when he's away for work exactly.

1212
00:54:18.840 --> 00:54:21.039
And that's when Audrey just starts diving into a pie

1213
00:54:21.079 --> 00:54:23.360
and she's stating the affair is over and Grace then

1214
00:54:23.400 --> 00:54:26.639
goes after Ronald. She's like Ronald and walks out to

1215
00:54:26.679 --> 00:54:30.199
get him. By this point, Michael apologizes to his mom

1216
00:54:30.239 --> 00:54:31.719
and that's when Ronald comes in and says, James and

1217
00:54:31.719 --> 00:54:34.000
Paula are gonna go leave at this point, and Ronald

1218
00:54:34.360 --> 00:54:37.079
tells them goodbye. Audrey then comments that there's a lot

1219
00:54:37.119 --> 00:54:38.840
of fucking shit that has to be put up with

1220
00:54:38.880 --> 00:54:41.119
this family, but you kids are worth it because Michael

1221
00:54:41.199 --> 00:54:42.559
is just like, you know, why are you sticking with him?

1222
00:54:42.559 --> 00:54:44.599
Why are you doing this to yourself? And that's when

1223
00:54:44.639 --> 00:54:46.400
Michael sees that he's fucked up because his mom just

1224
00:54:46.440 --> 00:54:47.320
breaks down crying.

1225
00:54:47.440 --> 00:54:50.280
Yeah, well he's you know, he means, well, he just

1226
00:54:50.320 --> 00:54:52.559
doesn't know what he doesn't know. Yeah, So when he

1227
00:54:52.599 --> 00:54:54.519
confronts his mom and says like, why are you doing

1228
00:54:54.559 --> 00:54:58.280
this to yourself, she's just like, I want our family

1229
00:54:58.360 --> 00:55:02.000
to be together, And he doesn't get because he's in college,

1230
00:55:02.000 --> 00:55:04.199
so he already knows or was in college, so we

1231
00:55:04.239 --> 00:55:05.280
already knows everything.

1232
00:55:05.400 --> 00:55:08.280
And one f bomb for a PG. Thirteen movie placed beautifully.

1233
00:55:08.320 --> 00:55:09.199
It gets the point.

1234
00:55:08.960 --> 00:55:11.760
Across that, yeah, bad, I would have settled for half

1235
00:55:11.760 --> 00:55:12.400
a buddock, but.

1236
00:55:12.400 --> 00:55:16.960
This works outside Ronald is scolded by his mother, who questions,

1237
00:55:17.000 --> 00:55:19.079
you know, what did you do and why'd you do it?

1238
00:55:19.159 --> 00:55:20.880
And he's like, you know, mom, if I could tell you,

1239
00:55:20.920 --> 00:55:22.599
I would, and she's like, well, how do you plan

1240
00:55:22.639 --> 00:55:24.480
on fixing it? And he tells her that he's already

1241
00:55:24.480 --> 00:55:27.800
trying to so back at the ceiling, Aunt Bee comments

1242
00:55:27.800 --> 00:55:30.320
on Hannah and Jessica being so adorable the grand babies,

1243
00:55:30.360 --> 00:55:32.280
and she also comments to Rachel that she hears her

1244
00:55:32.280 --> 00:55:34.800
clock going TikTok, TikTok, and Rachel's like, well, what do

1245
00:55:34.840 --> 00:55:36.960
you mean, and she's like, well, you know, we're all

1246
00:55:37.000 --> 00:55:38.599
waiting on that special man to come.

1247
00:55:38.480 --> 00:55:41.360
Into your life and into your womb.

1248
00:55:41.800 --> 00:55:44.400
That's when Aunt Beat even comments on changing her hair,

1249
00:55:44.679 --> 00:55:47.360
maybe making yourself look more glamorous, which if you heard

1250
00:55:47.400 --> 00:55:48.760
the trailer at the beginning, you heard this.

1251
00:55:48.760 --> 00:55:50.719
Section of dialogue pretty solid.

1252
00:55:51.280 --> 00:55:53.480
And that's when Carla comments that she likes the way

1253
00:55:53.559 --> 00:55:54.840
that Rachel's hair is.

1254
00:55:55.119 --> 00:55:56.320
Yeah, but who cares.

1255
00:55:56.599 --> 00:55:59.800
And at this point, Rachel's brother Art is passing a

1256
00:55:59.840 --> 00:56:02.000
battle wine around and that's when Rachel's like, just go

1257
00:56:02.079 --> 00:56:05.239
ahead and top of that, just fill her up. So

1258
00:56:05.440 --> 00:56:09.039
that's when we see that uh, excuse me here for

1259
00:56:09.039 --> 00:56:12.079
a second. At the Avella's, Tony states that Lizzie didn't

1260
00:56:12.079 --> 00:56:14.679
tell him that she invited someone, and Javier offers to leave,

1261
00:56:14.719 --> 00:56:16.719
but Lizzie states, no, you know, you're wanted here. The

1262
00:56:16.719 --> 00:56:18.920
family wants you, hear, and that's when she goes to

1263
00:56:18.960 --> 00:56:22.000
offer dessert, asking vier, uh, you know what he wants,

1264
00:56:22.079 --> 00:56:24.039
and that's when he states that he wants his wife

1265
00:56:24.039 --> 00:56:24.880
and children back.

1266
00:56:25.400 --> 00:56:28.880
Well, I mean I think she more meant like take

1267
00:56:28.920 --> 00:56:32.519
her pie, yeah, or flawn or flawn yeah, yeah, Flan's good.

1268
00:56:32.679 --> 00:56:35.159
And he that's again, excuse me, I actually headed. That's

1269
00:56:35.159 --> 00:56:36.559
when he asked how long they known each other, and

1270
00:56:36.559 --> 00:56:38.280
that's going to say a few years, and that she

1271
00:56:38.760 --> 00:56:41.159
that he that Daniel has been a great compadre for her,

1272
00:56:41.159 --> 00:56:43.639
and Gina states that Javier left and Tony goes to

1273
00:56:43.679 --> 00:56:45.840
defend him, but Abela tells him he can't.

1274
00:56:45.840 --> 00:56:47.920
Can you see that? Can't you see that she's happy now?

1275
00:56:48.360 --> 00:56:50.320
Yeah? And she is very happy. Yeah.

1276
00:56:50.320 --> 00:56:52.440
So Javier leaves the table on a huff as Lizzie

1277
00:56:52.519 --> 00:56:54.920
chases after him. She shuts the doors in the living room,

1278
00:56:54.920 --> 00:56:57.039
but the family, being nosy that they are, get up

1279
00:56:57.079 --> 00:56:59.199
from the table and all crowd around the glass door.

1280
00:56:59.440 --> 00:57:03.239
I love this scene because he gets up and storms off.

1281
00:57:03.280 --> 00:57:06.320
He knocks his chair over. She storms after him. They

1282
00:57:06.320 --> 00:57:09.079
get into the house, they close the door behind them,

1283
00:57:09.199 --> 00:57:13.679
and then they speak completely calm and candidly. Yeah, like

1284
00:57:13.719 --> 00:57:16.320
there's no yelling at all. No, it's just a need

1285
00:57:16.400 --> 00:57:20.480
to like, I didn't know you were gonna bring someone, Okay,

1286
00:57:20.639 --> 00:57:23.320
Like he's like, of course, I'm mad. I didn't know

1287
00:57:23.400 --> 00:57:24.639
that you were seeing someone.

1288
00:57:25.039 --> 00:57:27.960
So Javier states that he is embarrassed and he didn't

1289
00:57:27.960 --> 00:57:29.719
know that he was coming, and she reminds him that

1290
00:57:29.760 --> 00:57:31.719
she didn't know he was coming well.

1291
00:57:31.559 --> 00:57:33.840
And apparently he had not taken the time to really

1292
00:57:34.199 --> 00:57:37.679
talk to them, any of them at very least to

1293
00:57:37.719 --> 00:57:39.320
say he's sorry. Yeah.

1294
00:57:39.400 --> 00:57:41.440
So she also questions what does he expect her to do,

1295
00:57:41.559 --> 00:57:43.880
adding he never said sorry to her or the children,

1296
00:57:43.880 --> 00:57:46.920
and Javier, seeing her side, apologizes with tears in his eyes,

1297
00:57:46.960 --> 00:57:48.519
stating that he loves her and he doesn't want to

1298
00:57:48.599 --> 00:57:51.000
let this destroy the family. And that's when she fires

1299
00:57:51.039 --> 00:57:53.079
back with no one in this family is destroyed.

1300
00:57:53.519 --> 00:57:56.480
But you know what, that's not even a fire back,

1301
00:57:56.599 --> 00:58:00.119
that's just that's just the real She's just giving him

1302
00:58:00.159 --> 00:58:03.280
a reality check of like, this is not the end

1303
00:58:03.320 --> 00:58:06.920
of their world, no, just because it's feels like it's

1304
00:58:06.960 --> 00:58:07.639
the end of yours.

1305
00:58:07.719 --> 00:58:10.239
Yeah, and he questions, you know, will she give him

1306
00:58:10.239 --> 00:58:13.320
a second chance? But she shakes her head, telling him sorry,

1307
00:58:13.360 --> 00:58:15.920
and that's when he storms off. Tony goes after him,

1308
00:58:15.920 --> 00:58:18.519
but he stops as the door shuts, and Anthony apologizes

1309
00:58:18.559 --> 00:58:20.519
to his mom because we see that Lizzie sits on

1310
00:58:20.559 --> 00:58:22.000
the couch and Bayla's sits next to her and she's like,

1311
00:58:22.039 --> 00:58:24.280
you know, where's Anthony And she turns around the couch

1312
00:58:24.280 --> 00:58:27.039
and he's like, mom, I'm sorry, and he apologizes and

1313
00:58:27.079 --> 00:58:28.320
we hear hobby ER's speed off.

1314
00:58:29.239 --> 00:58:33.519
Yeah, it's uh, it's tense, and the way she reacts

1315
00:58:33.519 --> 00:58:36.480
when he asks for a second chance, it's very clear

1316
00:58:36.559 --> 00:58:41.039
that they they didn't have a great marriage beforehand, which

1317
00:58:41.079 --> 00:58:43.239
is why she's just like no, yeah.

1318
00:58:43.239 --> 00:58:46.280
She doesn't raise her voice no ever, one like I'm sorry.

1319
00:58:46.360 --> 00:58:48.400
Yeah, because even when he's when he says, you know,

1320
00:58:48.639 --> 00:58:51.800
give me another chance, she's just like no, Like it's

1321
00:58:51.920 --> 00:58:54.679
just like that delivery too. So back at the ceilings,

1322
00:58:54.719 --> 00:58:56.760
Aunt Bee is laying it on heavy about not having

1323
00:58:56.840 --> 00:58:58.679
one to share life with, and you know, not take

1324
00:58:58.760 --> 00:59:01.480
vacations with anybody, and that's when Rachel speaks up that

1325
00:59:01.519 --> 00:59:05.239
she has something to say, announcing that she's pregnant.

1326
00:59:05.519 --> 00:59:09.400
Well, and her parents were trying to run interference at

1327
00:59:09.440 --> 00:59:11.280
the time when they were saying, like, what's the point

1328
00:59:11.320 --> 00:59:13.320
of this career and having this big house and no

1329
00:59:13.320 --> 00:59:13.840
one to share with.

1330
00:59:13.960 --> 00:59:15.920
They's like and her like, hey, look at the turkey,

1331
00:59:16.000 --> 00:59:16.800
look at the terray.

1332
00:59:16.960 --> 00:59:18.639
Well before that though, he was just saying, like, you

1333
00:59:18.679 --> 00:59:20.639
know what, you know, you have to understand that, like

1334
00:59:21.039 --> 00:59:23.119
you know, in their generation, like their friends are very

1335
00:59:23.239 --> 00:59:25.239
like their family and stuff like that. But yeah, they

1336
00:59:25.320 --> 00:59:27.039
literally is just waiting the turke here on.

1337
00:59:27.320 --> 00:59:30.519
So Aunt be and Uncle David are celebratory, as herb questions,

1338
00:59:30.519 --> 00:59:34.599
but put you're lesbian, unveiling to the family, asking you know,

1339
00:59:34.679 --> 00:59:36.920
who's who's the father, and that's when she tells him

1340
00:59:36.920 --> 00:59:39.199
it doesn't matter. But herb is isn't backing down at

1341
00:59:39.239 --> 00:59:42.239
this point, and Art tells herb it's common nowadays. Rachel

1342
00:59:42.280 --> 00:59:44.519
and tears says all that matters is that she's gonna

1343
00:59:44.559 --> 00:59:46.440
be happy and that she's gonna have a baby, and

1344
00:59:46.440 --> 00:59:48.280
that she's want to bring it around the family. But

1345
00:59:48.320 --> 00:59:50.280
then she questions if her father is even gonna want

1346
00:59:50.280 --> 00:59:51.320
to be around the baby.

1347
00:59:51.559 --> 00:59:54.239
Well, and it turns out that what he the reason

1348
00:59:54.280 --> 00:59:56.840
he keeps obsessively asking who the father is is because

1349
00:59:56.880 --> 01:00:00.800
he thinks she's had some kind of tawdry affair yeah

1350
01:00:00.840 --> 01:00:04.760
against her girlfriend, Yeah, which I thought was really kind

1351
01:00:04.760 --> 01:00:06.000
of delightful. Yeah.

1352
01:00:06.000 --> 01:00:07.840
He still can't let it go, and he's asking who's

1353
01:00:07.880 --> 01:00:10.119
the father as Ruth and tear and like, Ruth is

1354
01:00:10.119 --> 01:00:12.000
in tears at this point, and Rachel suggests that it's

1355
01:00:12.039 --> 01:00:15.679
a donor, also unveiling that it's Jerry, her brother, Yes,

1356
01:00:16.199 --> 01:00:18.760
and that's when he's like, well, but Jerry's.

1357
01:00:18.360 --> 01:00:20.360
Gay, Yeah, but he's gay.

1358
01:00:20.880 --> 01:00:24.320
So that's when Bee questions, is the baby gonna be Jewish?

1359
01:00:24.519 --> 01:00:27.079
Yeah? I want to know is the baby gonna be Jewish?

1360
01:00:27.079 --> 01:00:28.000
The answer is yes.

1361
01:00:28.320 --> 01:00:31.719
So at the Winds, Gary's friends arrive to collect the gun,

1362
01:00:31.880 --> 01:00:33.920
Jenny answers the door, shutting it in their face, telling

1363
01:00:33.960 --> 01:00:36.039
them they'll call them later, and that's when she tells

1364
01:00:36.079 --> 01:00:37.800
Gary that he has to talk to the family, even

1365
01:00:37.840 --> 01:00:39.679
announcing to the family that Gary's in trouble.

1366
01:00:41.679 --> 01:00:52.440
Do You Even Movie will be right back? Welcome back

1367
01:00:52.519 --> 01:00:53.719
to Do You Even?

1368
01:00:53.840 --> 01:00:56.280
Movie?

1369
01:00:59.039 --> 01:01:01.239
And the family sends you Joe to his room, forcing

1370
01:01:01.280 --> 01:01:03.480
Gary to sit down as Jenny lays the gun on

1371
01:01:03.519 --> 01:01:06.440
the table carefully, and Gary tells them it's not his.

1372
01:01:06.559 --> 01:01:07.880
And by this point, you know, the family's like, what

1373
01:01:07.880 --> 01:01:09.239
are you doing with a gun? You know, we left

1374
01:01:09.320 --> 01:01:11.360
Vietnam to get away from this kind of violence. You

1375
01:01:11.400 --> 01:01:13.440
know these are not your friends if they're making you

1376
01:01:13.480 --> 01:01:15.880
do these kind of things. All while this is going on,

1377
01:01:15.960 --> 01:01:18.000
Gary is like trying to run out of the house,

1378
01:01:18.000 --> 01:01:20.360
and Jenny apologizes that she was only trying to help him.

1379
01:01:20.559 --> 01:01:22.280
His mom questions if he's in a gang, and he

1380
01:01:22.280 --> 01:01:24.559
says he's not that stupid and that his friend Don

1381
01:01:24.679 --> 01:01:27.280
was jumped. They took his jacket. He started cursing them

1382
01:01:27.320 --> 01:01:31.159
out and now they're after him. Meanwhile, Joey comes out

1383
01:01:31.159 --> 01:01:34.039
of his room and quickly finds the gun on the table,

1384
01:01:34.039 --> 01:01:37.480
thinking it's a toy, unaware The family also unaware because

1385
01:01:37.480 --> 01:01:39.480
they're all talking to Gary with their backs to Joey,

1386
01:01:39.679 --> 01:01:42.840
and Joey starts touching the trigger. He's pointing the barrel

1387
01:01:42.920 --> 01:01:45.840
towards him, looking at the gun, and that's when suddenly

1388
01:01:45.840 --> 01:01:47.800
the gun goes off, and we don't see what happened.

1389
01:01:47.840 --> 01:01:51.360
Well, we cut to outside and then there's a gun shot.

1390
01:01:51.719 --> 01:01:53.400
You made it sound like it went off while he

1391
01:01:53.440 --> 01:01:54.440
was looking down the barrel.

1392
01:01:54.519 --> 01:01:56.480
Well it does, because the family's talking and the gun

1393
01:01:56.519 --> 01:01:58.800
goes off. The family's reaction is we don't see the

1394
01:01:58.800 --> 01:01:59.960
outside until the next thing.

1395
01:02:00.079 --> 01:02:02.239
Well, what I met was the way you described it

1396
01:02:02.280 --> 01:02:03.599
was like. And then he has the gun point in

1397
01:02:03.639 --> 01:02:05.239
his face and it goes off. Well, yeah, that's what

1398
01:02:05.320 --> 01:02:06.920
I meant as a little my apolypherous.

1399
01:02:07.360 --> 01:02:10.480
So we see the ceilings, the Williams, and the Novillas

1400
01:02:10.760 --> 01:02:13.639
all hear the shot, and this is the beautiful, beautiful

1401
01:02:13.639 --> 01:02:14.199
moment of the movie.

1402
01:02:14.239 --> 01:02:16.320
Yeah, it ties it all together beautifully.

1403
01:02:15.800 --> 01:02:19.159
Revealing that all four families live on the same intersection,

1404
01:02:19.320 --> 01:02:22.079
so they live basically on the corner of each other.

1405
01:02:22.159 --> 01:02:24.039
And that's when they all go outside and they're all

1406
01:02:24.039 --> 01:02:26.679
standing on their respective street corners. Jimmy races, of course,

1407
01:02:26.679 --> 01:02:28.400
towards the house because Gina's like, I think that came

1408
01:02:28.400 --> 01:02:30.159
from your house, and that's when we see all the

1409
01:02:30.159 --> 01:02:33.440
families converge in the streets speaking about the family. Later

1410
01:02:33.519 --> 01:02:35.480
that night, we see the window is broken where the

1411
01:02:35.480 --> 01:02:38.719
gun shot was, where the bullet went out, of so

1412
01:02:38.920 --> 01:02:40.760
no one was hurt. It went out the window, no

1413
01:02:40.840 --> 01:02:43.719
one was hurt, and the Winds boarded up. Jimmy and

1414
01:02:43.800 --> 01:02:46.400
Jenny stand on the porch. Meanwhile, at the Avillas, the

1415
01:02:46.440 --> 01:02:49.199
Ceilings all gathered to leave. Aunt Be and David still

1416
01:02:49.199 --> 01:02:51.840
discussing Rachel's baby, if it's gonna be jewish, who's the father?

1417
01:02:52.440 --> 01:02:54.920
And that's when Bruce is like, all right, good night.

1418
01:02:55.079 --> 01:02:57.119
Ne bye, have a good night.

1419
01:02:57.480 --> 01:03:01.079
Lizzie is standing with Gina and that's when she tells Gina,

1420
01:03:01.159 --> 01:03:03.400
you know, Gina, I met his father today. He's a

1421
01:03:03.440 --> 01:03:05.119
good man, and I think it would be okay if

1422
01:03:05.119 --> 01:03:07.400
you went over. So Gina walks across the street, joining

1423
01:03:07.480 --> 01:03:10.000
Jimmy on the porch. He introduces her to the family.

1424
01:03:10.440 --> 01:03:12.480
We see that Ronald and Audrey are in the kitchen

1425
01:03:12.559 --> 01:03:14.599
as they're cleaning up after the dinner, and that's when

1426
01:03:14.599 --> 01:03:16.880
he comes behind and hugs her and he asks for

1427
01:03:17.280 --> 01:03:20.639
her forgiveness. They embrace and kiss. Rachel sees her father

1428
01:03:20.679 --> 01:03:22.639
in the jacuzzi by himself with the dog out there,

1429
01:03:22.719 --> 01:03:25.280
and Gina sits down with the wind family as they

1430
01:03:25.360 --> 01:03:28.119
share leftovers with her, and that's when Grandma also comments

1431
01:03:28.119 --> 01:03:29.079
that she's so adorable.

1432
01:03:29.119 --> 01:03:32.239
She looks Viames, Yeah, yeah, well because I mean that's

1433
01:03:32.239 --> 01:03:34.320
why what he was afraid of. He's afraid they wouldn't

1434
01:03:34.320 --> 01:03:36.159
approve of him having a Mexican girlfriend.

1435
01:03:36.239 --> 01:03:38.719
And while this is happening, Jimmy asks Joey about his play.

1436
01:03:38.840 --> 01:03:40.719
We pan over to Michael and Ronald who are taking

1437
01:03:40.760 --> 01:03:42.480
out the trash, and Michael is like, you know, or

1438
01:03:42.719 --> 01:03:44.840
Ronald is like, you know, Michael, I'm not telling you

1439
01:03:44.840 --> 01:03:46.960
how to live your life. I'll support any decision you make,

1440
01:03:47.000 --> 01:03:49.760
but you know, schooling is very important, and Michael agrees.

1441
01:03:50.039 --> 01:03:52.280
Lizzie and Daniel come out as she walks Daniel to

1442
01:03:52.320 --> 01:03:54.360
his car and they share a good night kiss. Out

1443
01:03:54.400 --> 01:03:57.599
back of the ceilings are Rachel, Sophia, and Carlos sit

1444
01:03:57.639 --> 01:04:00.199
with Urban and Jacuzie. As Ruth comes out with a cappuccini. Know,

1445
01:04:00.559 --> 01:04:02.840
the camera pans up as we see a beautiful La

1446
01:04:02.920 --> 01:04:05.960
city scape before it all fades out, and that is

1447
01:04:06.000 --> 01:04:07.760
two thousands, what's cooking?

1448
01:04:07.840 --> 01:04:12.199
And it was all it all ended with God only knows. Yeah,

1449
01:04:12.440 --> 01:04:15.039
by the Beach Boys describe and acapella. So it's a

1450
01:04:15.039 --> 01:04:20.360
really beautiful, serene sequence and it's what made the movie

1451
01:04:20.480 --> 01:04:22.280
like click with me, so deeply.

1452
01:04:22.440 --> 01:04:24.719
Yeah, it's it is fantastic. I mean, like I said,

1453
01:04:24.760 --> 01:04:27.440
we've read a synopsis for you, but even that synopsis

1454
01:04:27.440 --> 01:04:29.320
doesn't do a justice. If you have not seen this movie,

1455
01:04:29.760 --> 01:04:31.760
make sure you seek it out. It's absolutely worth it.

1456
01:04:31.880 --> 01:04:34.400
Would you like to know some things about the film, Enrique? Sure,

1457
01:04:34.840 --> 01:04:38.320
so in full on Dave fashion. I kind of daved

1458
01:04:38.400 --> 01:04:40.679
this up a little bit because Enrica and I both

1459
01:04:40.760 --> 01:04:42.960
do not own the DVD and it was only this

1460
01:04:43.000 --> 01:04:45.400
past Sunday that we recorded this, or this past Sunday

1461
01:04:45.519 --> 01:04:48.039
from this recording that I found out that there is

1462
01:04:48.079 --> 01:04:50.679
a commentary track for the film. I did not have

1463
01:04:50.760 --> 01:04:52.760
time to get the DVD with the short notice, so

1464
01:04:52.880 --> 01:04:55.639
unfortunately there's not a lot of information for this film online,

1465
01:04:55.639 --> 01:04:58.599
but I do have some few things. No budget was given,

1466
01:04:58.639 --> 01:05:01.079
but opening weekend it May one hundred and forty four

1467
01:05:01.440 --> 01:05:05.199
five hundred eighty six dollars. November nineteenth, two thousand, Oh wow,

1468
01:05:05.400 --> 01:05:08.320
grosses worldwide one million, six hundred ninety eight dollars and

1469
01:05:08.679 --> 01:05:12.519
seven hundred and fifty nine okay. The film was given

1470
01:05:12.559 --> 01:05:15.760
a limited theatrical release beginning November seventeenth of two thousand.

1471
01:05:15.840 --> 01:05:17.760
It was released in the UK on August thirty, first

1472
01:05:17.760 --> 01:05:20.199
of two thousand and one. It ultimately grossed one million,

1473
01:05:20.199 --> 01:05:23.159
six hundred ninety eight dollars worldwide. What's Cooking was the

1474
01:05:23.199 --> 01:05:26.199
opening night film of the two thousand Sundance Film Festival

1475
01:05:26.199 --> 01:05:28.719
and was the first British script to be invited to

1476
01:05:28.760 --> 01:05:30.800
the Sundances Institute Writer's Lab.

1477
01:05:31.400 --> 01:05:34.199
Huh, I do find it fascinating that this film was

1478
01:05:34.199 --> 01:05:36.760
written by a brit Yeah, or two Brits.

1479
01:05:36.880 --> 01:05:39.320
The film was voted a joint audience Award winner at

1480
01:05:39.320 --> 01:05:42.199
the two thousand New York Film Critics Circle Awards, and

1481
01:05:42.239 --> 01:05:44.719
Shada won the award for the Best British Director at

1482
01:05:44.719 --> 01:05:48.840
the London Film Critics Circle Awards. What is your final

1483
01:05:48.880 --> 01:05:50.800
thoughts on What's Cooking from two thousand?

1484
01:05:50.880 --> 01:05:52.920
I mean, I love the movie, Yeah, I really do.

1485
01:05:53.000 --> 01:05:56.159
I think that if ever, there was a movie that

1486
01:05:56.239 --> 01:06:02.519
actually captured perfectly the concept of Thanksgiving being an American

1487
01:06:02.559 --> 01:06:07.039
holiday and what it means to be American, which is

1488
01:06:07.119 --> 01:06:11.880
to mean to vary greatly from family to family, to

1489
01:06:11.920 --> 01:06:19.440
have families with such an immense difference culturally, ethnically, in

1490
01:06:19.519 --> 01:06:23.079
every way, and then to realize that they're all living

1491
01:06:23.119 --> 01:06:26.000
across the street from each other. That is an inherently

1492
01:06:26.079 --> 01:06:29.440
American thing that is not a common thing anywhere else

1493
01:06:29.480 --> 01:06:32.599
in the world, and it's rare to see a movie

1494
01:06:32.679 --> 01:06:37.599
celebrate it so beautifully without it being janguistic or saccharin

1495
01:06:38.079 --> 01:06:40.719
or anything like that. I love it. I would call

1496
01:06:40.760 --> 01:06:43.719
it a by it even though Dave did not.

1497
01:06:44.039 --> 01:06:45.559
You did not either. We have it digitally.

1498
01:06:45.679 --> 01:06:47.599
I mean I ordered a copy now, did you know?

1499
01:06:47.800 --> 01:06:50.159
Yeah, of course, so it is also a by it

1500
01:06:50.199 --> 01:06:50.960
for me as well.

1501
01:06:51.000 --> 01:06:53.239
This is just a movie that embodies, as I said,

1502
01:06:53.239 --> 01:06:56.679
the Thanksgiving Holiday to a tea. You have absolutely perfect

1503
01:06:56.719 --> 01:06:59.280
performances from the entire cast. You have a lot of

1504
01:06:59.360 --> 01:07:03.159
great writing sequences, You've got a lot of just bouncing around,

1505
01:07:03.239 --> 01:07:04.719
and then it all makes sense in the end, as

1506
01:07:04.719 --> 01:07:07.880
it does to just wrap everything up in a great bow.

1507
01:07:07.960 --> 01:07:10.199
At this point, this is a movie that's a really good,

1508
01:07:10.199 --> 01:07:12.039
feel good Thanksgiving movie. You could probably show it to

1509
01:07:12.079 --> 01:07:14.840
the family at that point and I will say, like,

1510
01:07:14.920 --> 01:07:16.880
this is one of those Thanksgiving movies. I love Home

1511
01:07:16.880 --> 01:07:19.320
for the Holidays. That said, there's portions of Home for

1512
01:07:19.360 --> 01:07:21.519
the Holidays that get a little unpleasant that kind of

1513
01:07:21.559 --> 01:07:23.920
take me out of it. But this movie, even with

1514
01:07:24.000 --> 01:07:27.360
its unsettling scenes. It's still really it's still a great

1515
01:07:27.360 --> 01:07:30.360
watch every time. Yeah, I would agree, So that is

1516
01:07:30.599 --> 01:07:32.679
What's Cooking from two thousand. We always like to end

1517
01:07:32.679 --> 01:07:34.760
the show with a couple recommendations. The first one I

1518
01:07:34.800 --> 01:07:36.880
have for this week is two thousand and five's The

1519
01:07:36.920 --> 01:07:41.199
Family Stone. An uptight liberal business woman accompanies her boyfriend,

1520
01:07:41.199 --> 01:07:44.400
who is eccentric and outgoing family's annual Christmas celebration and

1521
01:07:44.440 --> 01:07:46.159
finds that she's a fish out of water in their

1522
01:07:46.199 --> 01:07:49.400
free spirited way of life. The second recommendation I'm gonna

1523
01:07:49.400 --> 01:07:51.199
give is The Oath from twenty eighteen.

1524
01:07:51.400 --> 01:07:52.480
That's a great film in.

1525
01:07:52.559 --> 01:07:55.079
Politically divided America, a man struggles to make it through

1526
01:07:55.119 --> 01:07:57.440
the Thanksgiving holiday without destroying the family. If you have

1527
01:07:57.559 --> 01:08:01.000
not seen The Oath, cannot recommend it. Like that feeling

1528
01:08:01.119 --> 01:08:02.360
is so wild, it's.

1529
01:08:02.159 --> 01:08:04.000
So hard to get your hands on, Like, I don't

1530
01:08:04.000 --> 01:08:06.519
think it's I don't think it's Has it ever been

1531
01:08:06.719 --> 01:08:09.440
free to watch or or even subscription available?

1532
01:08:09.440 --> 01:08:10.599
I think Hulu had it.

1533
01:08:10.599 --> 01:08:12.679
It might have been on Hulu briefly, but like every

1534
01:08:12.679 --> 01:08:14.360
time we've watched it, we had to rent it or

1535
01:08:14.360 --> 01:08:14.679
buy it.

1536
01:08:14.840 --> 01:08:15.960
Say I own the DVD.

1537
01:08:16.079 --> 01:08:19.800
Yeah, now I think yeah, let's see where that's the

1538
01:08:19.840 --> 01:08:27.279
TV series. Alright, let's see as IMDb takes for to load.

1539
01:08:28.399 --> 01:08:36.079
There is like Thornholds Doth the Hattish and it is loading.

1540
01:08:38.920 --> 01:08:39.000
Uh.

1541
01:08:39.039 --> 01:08:41.199
Yeah, you can only runt it on Prime yep, so

1542
01:08:41.399 --> 01:08:42.760
I know it was on Hulu for a little bit.

1543
01:08:42.800 --> 01:08:44.680
But yeah, unfortunately it does not look like it is

1544
01:08:44.720 --> 01:08:45.920
widely available right now.

1545
01:08:46.119 --> 01:08:48.479
Yeah, it just hasn't really gotten around very much.

1546
01:08:48.640 --> 01:08:51.439
Yeah, So what is your recommendation of this week? Do

1547
01:08:51.479 --> 01:08:51.880
you have one?

1548
01:08:52.039 --> 01:08:54.760
Yeah? I want to go with twenty Sixteen's Almost Christmas.

1549
01:08:54.760 --> 01:08:55.800
I literally almost did that.

1550
01:08:56.119 --> 01:08:57.479
Yeah, I would have punched you in the head if

1551
01:08:57.520 --> 01:09:01.279
you had. It's a it's a great film. Dysfunctional family

1552
01:09:01.319 --> 01:09:04.520
gathers together to get their first Christmas, for their first

1553
01:09:04.600 --> 01:09:08.079
Christmas since their mother passed away. It's very very funny,

1554
01:09:08.199 --> 01:09:11.800
it's heartfelt, great cast, It's got some good silly slapstick

1555
01:09:11.880 --> 01:09:15.520
to kind of make everybody chuckle. And yeah, the cast

1556
01:09:15.640 --> 01:09:18.399
is exquisite. So good, so very very good film.

1557
01:09:18.560 --> 01:09:20.279
Would you like to know what we're talking about next

1558
01:09:20.319 --> 01:09:22.319
week on the show? As the hell out Thanksgiving?

1559
01:09:22.600 --> 01:09:23.239
Why the hell not?

1560
01:09:23.439 --> 01:09:25.920
Well, we are going with you guessed it. That's not

1561
01:09:26.000 --> 01:09:30.159
Cranberry Sauce nineteen eighty seven's Blood Rage A true class,

1562
01:09:30.199 --> 01:09:32.600
a true classic. Indeed, I still will never forget that

1563
01:09:32.680 --> 01:09:34.760
time that Joe Bob ended the dinners of death with it,

1564
01:09:34.800 --> 01:09:36.159
and you and I were both kind of on the

1565
01:09:36.279 --> 01:09:38.600
verge of I'm sleep Nope, not anymore.

1566
01:09:39.000 --> 01:09:41.039
Well, I mean it's four movies. Yeah, you know that's

1567
01:09:41.079 --> 01:09:41.680
a late night.

1568
01:09:41.880 --> 01:09:43.399
It was a late night. So do we have any

1569
01:09:43.439 --> 01:09:44.279
emails this week?

1570
01:09:44.800 --> 01:09:47.079
I could check again, but I'm pretty sure we don't.

1571
01:09:47.359 --> 01:09:51.840
Well sadness, Yeah, well you know. Oh wait, wait, we

1572
01:09:52.239 --> 01:09:56.720
have one that came in today. Ooh it's from Patrick,

1573
01:09:56.840 --> 01:09:59.640
our good buddy Patrick, Yeah, says, do you guys have

1574
01:09:59.720 --> 01:10:03.800
plan to do Eli Roth's Thanksgiving one day? Thanks for

1575
01:10:03.840 --> 01:10:05.920
the entertainment, Hen and Turkey hating Dave.

1576
01:10:06.880 --> 01:10:09.159
I personally really enjoyed Thanksgiving. I think you did too.

1577
01:10:09.439 --> 01:10:09.880
It was fun.

1578
01:10:10.359 --> 01:10:13.600
It could absolutely become an episode probably next year. Wouldn't

1579
01:10:13.600 --> 01:10:16.319
boom consider it most likely, But I really enjoyed it fun.

1580
01:10:16.479 --> 01:10:18.960
I would be down to revisit it after some time

1581
01:10:19.000 --> 01:10:21.039
has gone by. I think it'll be kind to it.

1582
01:10:21.079 --> 01:10:22.199
We're getting a sequel.

1583
01:10:21.880 --> 01:10:24.680
To Oh wow, yeah taken a while, Yeah.

1584
01:10:24.560 --> 01:10:27.399
It has so. Yeah, we were talking about Blood Rage

1585
01:10:27.479 --> 01:10:30.039
nineteen eighty seven on next week's show, And I will

1586
01:10:30.079 --> 01:10:32.399
go ahead and say goes hen and I looked ahead,

1587
01:10:32.520 --> 01:10:36.359
and you can rent it wherever you get your videos

1588
01:10:36.359 --> 01:10:38.520
from currently, but you also can find it. Is it

1589
01:10:38.720 --> 01:10:39.399
moment moment?

1590
01:10:39.760 --> 01:10:40.760
You didn't write it down?

1591
01:10:40.880 --> 01:10:41.920
I have it. I have it up.

1592
01:10:41.920 --> 01:10:44.359
I feel I send it to your email. I have it.

1593
01:10:44.399 --> 01:10:48.399
No moment too, mo me too, moment moment two. Yeah, yeah,

1594
01:10:48.479 --> 01:10:52.159
moment two. It's a new like to be competitor. Yeah

1595
01:10:52.359 --> 01:10:56.119
m O M E t u moment two. I know

1596
01:10:56.199 --> 01:10:59.359
that they're legitimate because I've licensed some movies to them myself.

1597
01:11:00.439 --> 01:11:03.000
But I yeah, it's the only place that is blood

1598
01:11:03.079 --> 01:11:04.600
Rage to stream free with ads.

1599
01:11:05.199 --> 01:11:08.600
Stream the full uncut and hybrid cut of Nightmare and

1600
01:11:08.640 --> 01:11:09.640
shadow Woods.

1601
01:11:09.319 --> 01:11:10.479
And blood Rage mind you too?

1602
01:11:10.600 --> 01:11:13.520
Yeah, so you are getting the full, the fullest version

1603
01:11:13.520 --> 01:11:14.920
of the movie that you can get. So that is

1604
01:11:14.960 --> 01:11:16.840
going to be on next week's show right.

1605
01:11:16.680 --> 01:11:18.600
Here on, do you even movie? It's true?

1606
01:11:19.159 --> 01:11:20.399
So are you ready to get out of here?

1607
01:11:20.560 --> 01:11:23.000
I think it's about that time, all right, So, but

1608
01:11:23.079 --> 01:11:25.600
we will be back here next Tuesday. If you want

1609
01:11:25.600 --> 01:11:29.199
to send us an email, do so at Douevenmoviepod at

01:11:29.279 --> 01:11:31.920
gmail dot com. We'd be happy to hear from you.

01:11:31.920 --> 01:11:34.520

1612
01:11:34.520 --> 01:11:37.720
