I just, you know, sometimes I just like, I don't like having hair. You know, it's weird. Yeah, yeah, you want to eradicate the eradicate the hair. You want to we want to put the hair in camps. I don't want to deal with it when I'm moaning my grass in the summertime more than anything. Well, first of all, you shouldn't be moaning the grass with your hair. I mean, that's just weird. But a hell of a flex. I mean, there's not going to pretend that I'm not impressed there is a lawn there somewhere. I have questions, David. I may not have had a very good couple of days, so at least I haven't, you know. But so I'm oddly humorous today, which is perfect, perfect considering the film We're going to be wrapping up Roger Corman Appreciation Month with Yes, which is The Raven nineteen sixty three. Yeah so and one of the few of the Poe era that was played for laughs. Many of Corman's films were played for laughs. Over the course of his career. He was not afraid to do comedy. Yeah, Bucket of Blood comes to mind immediately. Little Shop of Horrors. He learned very early in his directing career making horror films that a little humor would make people want to come back for more. And but then very little humor in Frankenstein unbounded but still a great Oh. Yeah, no, it's phenomenal. And I mean, I like all of his Poe movies. It was actually it was it was very difficult to choose which Poe movie to cover as the fourth and final film in the Roger Corman Appreciation Month. So that's why I pulled my trump card and just said you pick, I don't have me pick, and then I walked away. Well, and I think I don't know if we told the listeners or not. How we came across Roger Corman Month was we had we had been on the set of the movie that we had just finished shooting recently, and that's when we found out the unfortunate news that he had passed. Yeah. Yeah, we were literally on set, yeah, filming a low budget movie when we found out that the king of low budget movies had passed away, and we had already been talking about because we knew that we knew the month was coming to an end, and we had to figure out we were gonna do a theme month or just throwing more hodgepodge. So then that's when Enrique was like, we should totally do Roger Corman Month. And it was just like light bulb moment. It's like, hell, yes, we should, absolutely so, I mean, we could do a Roger Corman year, we could do a show. There's so many we I mean, I'm sure there are podcasts already out there dedicated solely trying to watch all of the works Foreign Company. Is that what's called I mean, that's what I would call it. Oh okay, well, gee, well you're pitching new podcasts right now. I mean, gosh, you're you're okay. I mean, you're the guys like I'm tired, worked too much And I didn't say I just pitched the podcast. There's also I have a copy of Cry of the Winged Serpent, which it's I heard it didn't I can't remember if that was the one that did sci Fi premiere that. No, it's never been a market Yeah, it's been released in some foreign territories, but never came out in the old US of A. This is true. Beyond that, I don't. The only thing I have to mention before we dive into the raven is the first time I got exposed to Poe. Because I'm a massive Poe fan. You are, yeah, And well, I've started on my on my podcast Weekly Spooky. I've started occasionally when there's a day open, I just read Poe and there's so much out there. There's quite a bit, yeh. Not. He didn't write a ton of novels. He wrote mostly short stories and poetry, Poe trims, po m, Poe ms. Do you remember the first piece of Poe you read? Yeah? I do, actually, So it was at my elementary school library. They had a it was like a pretty decent hardback sized book that are sized hardback book. Excuse me, we're already there, and it had a it had a like a cover that had like two guys digging on it, and I remember just immediately like seeing it as being like, Okay, that looks interesting. And then I took it home and my mom was like, oh my god, you got a Poe book. And it had like the Goldbug, Telltale Heart and the first one that I ever read, which was the Cask of a Mantiado. Your first was the Cask of Mantiadao. Now given, I'm sure it was not one hundred percent unabridged because the I don't I don't know if. I don't know if they had adapted some of it, because I remember I was young when I read this, so I don't think having read a Mantiado recently, I don't know if all the verbiage was there. I bet it was, because it's you have as an adult, you really have to think to really understand how cruel the cask of a Mantiado is. Yeah, as a kid, it's this, it's just the cruelty of bricking him up. But as an adult, when you realize that it's all about like like making fun of ego and all this stuff and how like he's constantly like because my favorite part about that story is the the drunkard that he is going to wall up and kill. Spoiler alert it came out in the eighteen hundred. If you just slammed their phone on the concrete in the middle of their day job, everyone turns over and goes, ah, they spoiled Poe again. Huh. It's like, yeah, it's like, all right, take your lunch break at T mobile. But no, but but like along that journey to bricking him up the entire time, if he just didn't fall for one of the baited comments, didn't which are which are entirely his ego. Though, he's like, oh no, no, no, I mean, I'm sure this other guy would appreciate the amantiado very much and be able to tell me if it's legitimate. And he's like, well, I mean, there's nobody better at understanding of mantiado to me. It's like every time he says like, but you should really turn back go home, it's not important tonight, he's like, no, no, I love that and it And the reason I'm talking about that specifically is because that's a good example of something that I do think it takes a lot of Poe reading to get into, which is the humor in Edgar Allan Poe's work. He's got a lot of it. He can be very very funny. Yeah, you know, when he's not just killing a cat or whatever. But he can be very very funny. And one of the examples is I read a story I wish I could remember the name of it right off the top of my head. But I read a story of his on my podcast, and it was about this giant monster that this guy was describing to a friend and he's like, I cannot tell you had had pincers and four let and six legs. Yeah, and it was here to kill me everything. And then at the end of the story it's revealed that the guy who's when he sits out there, bugs get on the glass of his window, and he's he can't tell that they're close. He thinks they're far away, so he thinks these giant monsters are crawling up the hills toward his house, sez because he's a drunk. Yeah. And that's the other thing that Poe loved to poke fun at. Ironically, he was a drunk drunk, but he loved to poke fun at drunkards how drunkards would make horrible mistakes. And actually one of my favorites of the Poe Dark humor is never bet the Devil your head. That's a very less known post story, but I just recently learned about it and I read it, and it's literally about these two young kids. They're probably like ones like eight years old and ones like fourteen. The main character is fourteen, and this eight year old is just a little shit. And Poe's perspective is like, I've hated him since he was born, but I've always tried to like be okay with him, but he's just a wretch. And the kid just always says, I bet the devil. I bet the devil my head. I can do this. I bet the devil my head, I can do this. I bet the devil my head, I can do this. And then eventually they're at this covered bridge and he goes, I bet the devil I could jump my head, that I could jump this whatever, and this voice from the shadows just says like, I'll take that bet. Oh God, And he's like okay, and he jumps up and he doesn't clear it. His foot catches and then you hear like a sound and he falls to the ground and his friend runs up to him and sees that his head's gone, and the mysterious figure just walks out of the shadows with his head just leaves as you do. But I'll tell you my Poe experience. I'm almost certain that my first exposure to Poe, other than when they did the Raven on The Simpsons, which I think was many people's first nevermore maybe well, the the reading of the Raven on the Simpsons is one of the finest moments in television. James Earl Jones. Jones perched and sucked and nothing more good. Well, the Raven is one of those like I've I've narrated it twice now. I did one in the in the recording studio, you know, all perfect, and I did one just sitting in a cabin in the middle. I've published both of them. That would be cool too. The acoustics are to die for. But but I think it was the Telltale Heart because I remember learning about it in school, and I remember, and I've told the story a million times on nearly every podcast I've ever been on. Yeah, but there was a Book of Poe at my elementary school library, and I used to check it out on weekends and dig into it. And it is a big book. And I actually eventually found that exact one. Well, it turns I mean it was I went to a poor school. It was just like nineteen ninety one's Book of Poe. It was cheap. It looks nice, but it's just this cheap thing. So I bought this collected works of Poe. But I remember so specifically one night or one day school letting out, and I went to school three blocks from my house. The elementary school was really close. I'd walk home every day, and I remember running home with my Poe book in my backpack because it was going to start storming. And I remember getting home and just reading and reading and reading, and then my mom came home and I was like, I was like, I want to read my book. So my mom went out. I was probably I don't know ten. My mom goes out for the night and leaves me with pizza money. Which was my favorite thing about Friday nights was it was my night. I was home alone with pizza. Yep, but I just remember eating pizza and storm outside and just reading Poe and having a fucking last It was one of my favorite childhood memories. So yeah, Poe has been a big part of my imagination for a very long time. Do You Even Movie will be right back. Welcome back to Do You Even? Movie? I was curious in regards to him how early it goes back into films and like plays. Now, given his plays starting like nineteen nineteen, I didn't write any of those down, but film wise, nineteen thirty two is an adaptation of Murders in the Room Morgue. The Black Cat also gets an adaptation in thirty four. The Raven in thirty five, Phantom of the Room Morgan fifty four, House of Usher in sixty Telltale Heart and sixty Pit in the Pendulum sixty one, Premature Burial sixty two, Tales of Teraris sixty two, The Raven sixty three, Haunted Palace, after that in sixty three, Mask of the Red Death in sixty four, Tomb of Laig in sixty four, which Finder General in sixty eight. Then we also go into the Oblong Box in sixty nine, and evening with at Ground Poe, which is the famous Vincent Price special in nineteen seventy. Yes. Well, and it's important to mention the reason that Poe is so everywhere, Yeah, is that his work went public domain right as television and film was born. Yeah, so talk about like a fertile, you know, a ground to pick from. Plus people were like, it's either this guy or the racist Lovecraft. So basically yeah, and they were like, we love that racist Lovecraft, but he's not that scary. Apparently I've never seen it. But Junk Food Cinema did a podcast or did an episode recently of Corman's going through like their top ten favorites, I want to say it was, and they said, Both of them said, the Dunwick Horror is one of like Lovecraft's like best adaptations. The Dumbwich Horror. I have not seen it, but I've heard it's great. I've not seen it either, so I think we need to dive into that one. Well, I mean, I'm ready and Raren okay, Murders of the Room Morgan seventy one, the Black Cat in eighty one, Murders of the Real Morgan eighty six, The Black Cat in eighty nine, House of Usher in eighty nine, the Mask of the Red Death at eighty nine. You know, we're getting into uh oh, the later the later pose that they did. Who was it? I can't remember, but like we watched the one in Mask of the Red Yeah, one because one Frank stallone, Yeah yeah. Two Evil Eyes in nineteen ninety, The Haunting of Morella in nineteen ninety, the Jim Minorski classic Haunting Fear in nineteen ninety that was loosely based on Now, I'm why am I drawing a blank? What was that loosely based on? It would have been not tell total heart, no premature burial, premature barrier. Yeah, it was based on premature burial and then Pitt in the Pendulum in ninety one. That's where I stopped off at because that was like the last one basically for ten years after that. Well, and by the way, fredil and Ray's adaptation of Premature Burial is one of my favorites. Yeah, hawning fear, Yeah, hawnting fear, shame fear, and one of Brink Stevens's finest performances. Well, and just got a very nice looking blu Ray if you want to pick it up. Yeah, it's gorgeous looking. It really is. Moon On. Now to our other writer, we have mister Richard Matheson once again, another writer who is known very well throughout the horror and sci fi industry. So he writes I Am Legend in fifty four. Last Man on Earth is adapted in sixty four, The Omega Man seventy one, I Am Omega in two thousand and seven, followed by I Am Legend two thousand and seven, all based on the same story, the same story. The Incredible Shrinking Man is based off of his book The Shrinking Man of fifty six, and then of course The Incredible Shrinking Woman in eighty one. He writes Stir of Echoes in nineteen fifty eight nineteen ninety nine they adapt the film that I showed you recently, and then moving on down, we have Ride the Nightmare, which is done in fifty nine, adapted into Alfred Hitchcock Hour for a film that was also later titled Cold Sweat with Charles Bronson. Well In Matheson has an interesting career because he wrote novels, short stories, and screenplays and teleplays. Yeah. Then we had The Beardless Warriors, which is adapted in The Young Warriors in sixty seven, Comedy of Terrorists in sixty four, Hell House in seventy one. He writes that it's adapted into the Legend of Hell House in seventy three. Bid Time Return in nineteen seventy five is adapted into Somewhere in Time in nineteen eighty. You've seen that one, right, what was it called Somewhere in Time with I have not seen that one? Superman? Why can I think his name? Christopher Reeve Chris for Reve, Yeah, I have not seen that was a really good movie. What Dreams May Come is written in seventy eight, then adapted into What Dreams May Come in ninety eight. Twilight Zone Night Gallery Cole Check The Nightstalker. He writes for all these series. So then going into his actual screenplays on IMDb. Yeah, he did. He write all of them, all of them, Okay, I thought he did. Yeah. Dead of Night, which had the story is it Bobby or what's the kid's name that we watched Trilogy of teror two. I'd have to think. But I know that that was a short story of his that was very, very scary, because they do that in seventy seven of Dead of Night, Somewhere in Time in nineteen eighty. He writes for Jaws three in nineteen eighty three, even though it is widely known that he hated what that movie turned into He was the only one though, Yeah, everybody else greeply proud love Jaws. Three D writes for Amazing Stories in eighty six. Loose cannons the film with dan Ackrod and Gene Hackman in nineteen ninety. WHOA, yeah, I want to watch that film. It's in my watch list. I want to as well. Hold on, Yeah, dan Ackroyd and Gene Hackman. Yes, that isn't that I love? You know, sometimes I look back at old at all, like old Hollywood, not like old Hollywood, but like, you know, nineteen sixty seventies, eighties, I really think they had a dartboard. They were like, all right, dan Ackroid will be With directed by Bob Clark. An unconventional time good who doesn't take any bowl is paired up with an amazing detective to capture some powerful criminals, but the cops soon realizes that that his buy the book partner has split personality this order so Hackman has a split I'm just kidding, yeah. Directed by Bob Clark, writer Richard Mathieson, Gene Hackman, dan Aykroyd, Dom Deluiz, Oh, Ronnie Cox, Robert Prosky. So is that readily available? Can you watch? That we have to rent it on Brian for four bucks. I'm in all right, but yeah, Luce Cannons in nineteen ninety and then cap off with a Trilogy of Tear in ninety six, Trilogy of Tear two in ninety six. Okay, we just revisited recently and cannot recommend. Super Underrated has a really good rat story and that's really creepy. Well, that's based on a bram Stoker grat story. I believe. I think they actually did a film adaptation of that entire story in the nineties. I want to say, because there was that time because like I told you about Russell Mckayhe's the Mummy, bram Stokers The Mummy was a movie that also went to video. So you're what you're saying is you think in the nineties there was an adaptation of Burial of the Rats. Yes, like in nineteen ninety five, directed by Dan Golden and produced by Roger Corman, made in Romania. I believe that makes sense, might be in my list of films I was going to recommend later on. All right, people don't know, We'll save that then. So capping us off with our crew is the cinematographer who is Floyd Crosby. He gets to start in nineteen thirty one with Taboo, The Story of the South Seas, The Brave Bulls in fifty one, then goes on to Shoot High Noon in nineteen fifty two, one of the most quite essential westerns you'll final anybody's list. AFI loves that movie. I also love that movie. So then he goes from that to do From Here to Eternity in fifty three, The Steel Lady, The Monster from the Ocean Floor in nineteen fifty four, Past and the Furious in fifty four, Five Guns West, fifty five, Naked Street, fifty five, The Apache Woman, fifty five, Attack of the Crab Monsters, Rock All Night, Ride Out for Revenge, Machine Gun, Kelly, the Cry Baby Killer in fifty eight, The Screaming Skull in fifty eight Gold Screaming Skull. That is a classic love scream Skull public Domain. I first saw Screaming Skull on Doctor Creep. Mom told her told me a story about Doctor greeposting it and like it's scaring the shit out of her. But he also hosted it in the run when I was a kid on cable access. Yeah, so I remember him showing it as well. So he does the House of Usher in nineteen sixty, Pit in the Pendulum sixty one, Hand of Death sixty two, Premature Burial sixty two, Tales of Terror sixty two, The Raven sixty three, The Young Racer sixty three, Black Zoos sixty three, The Haunted Palace in sixty three, Comedy of Terrors in sixty three, Bikini Beach, Bikini, Beach Blanket, Bingo, Beach Ball in sixty five, and then ends his career with the Cool Ones in sixty seven. Wow, I mean shot a lot for Roger, an incredible amount for Roger. I'm guessing he must have passed away shortly after that, Yeah he did. Yeah. So moving on down to our IMDb synopsis, we have a magician who has been turned into a raven, turns into a former sorcerer, or turns to a former sorcerer for help. Wow, I mean, you know, talk about like concise. Yeah, that's very concise. A magician grieving the loss of his wife is visited by a fellow magician who, oh my god, I can't talk well, or maybe you can't write. This is his synopsis. By the way, he didn't introduce it properly because he's drunk. Dave is drunk, by the way, I'm so sober right now. Look how mad he is. My synopsis A magician grieving the loss of his wife is visited by a fellow magician who's been turned into a raven by another sorcerer. Joining forces. The two magicians travel of the sorcerer's castle to change him back. That's pretty good. I mean, the original synopsis really is, like it wastes no cuts to the chase. Yeah, I mean, it's it's it's really because it really is. That's all the movie's about. It. Like he meets the sorcerer that's as a raven and then helps him out, and that's how everything happens in the film. It just gets more convoluted from there. Convoluted is not the right word. It gets more complex complex, Okay, a little convoluted, but in a fun way, funny way. I mean as they're as they're in the castle and things are getting crazier and crazier. It's not like I'm sitting there going this is this is? This isn't in eighty six minutes. There's only so much they can do when they do it, all. Yeah, Corman lived by the eighty six minute Max. Yeah, he really did so. Moving on down to our cast list, we have Vincent Price, the Great Vincent Price. Welcome to do even movie. I'm sure he will return several times. He's done any more movies than this, No, just this one? Oh okay, yeah, one hit wonder. He plays doctor Erasmus Craven. He has two and tens on his resume, by the way, that sounds right, getting his start in thirty eight. Now keep in mind, I'm going to try to condense this as much as possible, but he has also has a lot of good stuff on here. Okay, Dave, you do what you need to do. I'll be I'll take a quick noap, there you go. Nineteen thirty eight, he starts with Service Deluxe in Uh, then he moves on to thirty nine with the Private Lives of Elizabeth and Ethics. The Invisible Man returns in nineteen forty House of the Seven Gables, nineteen forty Shock and forty six. Then in nineteen forty eight he does Abdan Costello Meet Frankenstein, where he plays the Invisible Man at the very end of the movie. I mean, they'd be shocking if it was. So he took a little break during his death, but then he was back in nineteen seventy one with we joke but AI. Well, you know, there are worse things AI could be used for than bringing back Peter Lourie. I don't know what those things would be. The German Movie. German movie, yes, yes, huh, but now it was a risky time to be in a German film, I'll say that much. Well, yeah, I mean at that point horror was just being kind of invented. Yeah yeah. And then at the very end of this, I mean, he just lights up. So he's got the Black Cat in thirty four, Brida Frankenstein thirty five, The Raven, The Invisible Race, Son of Frankenstein, Black Friday, House of Frankenstein. One of my he was in an adaptation of The Raven from nineteen thirty five. What was the Raven's a poem? Yeah, which we're gonna talk about how the movie is like really straight, But what the what the hell was? What was the nineteen thirty Was it a short? Like? What was? Uh wait? No, I think I might be thinking of Dracula eight eighty. Yeah, though that one's great. I've never seen this. Frankenstein nineteen seventy thoughty eight. You send me a list, I'll fix that. The Raven in sixty three, The Terror, sixty three, Black Sabbath and sixty three, Comedy of Terrors in sixty three, Die Monster Die in sixty five, How the Grin Stole Christmas in sixty six, Mad Monster Party in sixty seven. Called you to Blood in sixty eight targets in sixty eight, which targets we probably need to take a second and talk about, because that's actually one four Corman that he gave Bogdanovich his first directing role. Yes, Yes, And by the way, so the Raven from nineteen thirty five, Yeah, directed by Lou Landers. It stars Bela Lagosi and Boris Karloff. It's an hour in one minute long. A brilliant surgeon with a morbid obsession for instruments of torture grows dangerously obsessed with a young socialite whose life he's saved. Spence showed that, really, yep, he has definitely showed that. What does that have to do with the ed grallin Popo? Who can say? I mean then again, I mean here comes the film we're talking about tonight. But yeah, So in nineteen sixty eight Corman gives Bogdanovich targets. What's significant about targets of this film as well as Corman is Karloff essentially plays himself in the movie. He's an aging horror star that's getting ready to do his Swan Swan song screening. But there's a guy that is a fan of his that's also killed his family and is now also killing other people. I mean, fucking Mondays, right, But Targets, if you have not seen Targets, cannot recommend enough nineteen sixty eight, The Crimson Cult in sixty eight as well, which was one of his last films. Boris Karloff rip what I mean, all these guys legacies that we have in front of us. And then the last one I do want to mention is there's a there's an actor in this that appears in one of his base his first really major theatrical film, by the name of Jack Nicholson, right. And Jack Nicholson got his start from Corman with The Cry Baby Killer, which I think, as I said, fifty eight, So that is this is the only movie that Nicholson is in that really had some recognition with it from Corman, because the other thing would be a Little Shop of Horrors. But other than that, Nicholson basically states that he hasn't been in really any other good movies that Corman did. Yeah, he did always say it was like, I never really got to be any of Rogers good films. Yeah, but what does he talking about? He started with Terror. We'll talk about it So as of this time, The Raven is currently available to stream everywhere you have lucked out with Roger Corman month even with Regasson unbound, all these films are basically available on TV and other services very easily defined. Yeah, no, these the Corman whole films are just they're all over very well, very easy to get a hold of. So if for some reason, in the first thirty six minutes of the show you've still have not seen the film, now's the time I worried that this is going to be our longest. To be honest, I mean, I don't know. I just got me going about Poe. Oh we haven't even started all the tangents yet. Oh boy, here, when was your first time watching The Raven? Oh my god, I don't even know. So, I mean, I gotta be honest. You know, the Poe era for Corman, I mean, those movies were old fashioned when I was a teenage Yeah, absolutely, you know, And that doesn't mean that they're not good. But old fashion means pacing is slow. It means a lot of the things that we've become accustomed to in cinema just that's not what they did back then. So that's one of the things that I think helped pose really early films for me watching them as a young man was that they were an hour. Yeah, you know, I might get a little tired, Like I love a Bucket of Blood. It's one of my favorite films he's ever done. But it drags a little bit, which is crazy. That's sixty four minutes or whatever, and it drags a little seventy minutes. But by the time you start to like get really, you know, antsy, it's over. Yeah. And so when it comes to the Corman Poe movies, I watched all of them between the ages of seventeen and nineteen because I rented all of them off of the original MGM DVDs from a local video stoice and it was a specialized video store. So a lot of the time I would go in there and just be like, what do you got from blank? And then I was told like, oh, man, if you like Roger Corman, which at the time I was mostly into him as a producer, yeah, you got to watch his Poe movies, and I'm like, oh, Poe. And I remember the ones that stuck out to me the most were like the Tomb of Legia, Premature burial really bothered me. Yeah, it's and the pit and the pendulum, of course, because it's just the I mean, the literal pit and pendulum in the movie is very terrifying. Yeah, I remembered the very least about the Raven other than that I chuckled at it. Yeah, and that it's it had three of the biggest names in horror. That was really what stuck out to me about it. But yeah, I wish I had a cool story about it, But I was really just like diving in and I watched them all and they all blend together a little bit, And I know Corman was afraid of that, but then again, he never thought some loser in Ohio was gonna binge watch all of them in like one weekend. That's fair. He thought, best case, you'd watch them all like within three weeks of each other in the theater. So what about you, Dave. So my first experience was this was MGM had released the double feature disc which were a big deal back in like I want to say, like two thousands, two thousand and five, two thousand and four, I think it was even I think it was like three or three. Yeah, that was a big deal because they put like, uh, doctor Fibes rises again and Doctor Fib's on the same set. They had what was it cry, the Banshee and the Dunwick Horror. They had Madhouse and another Vincent Price one that was mine right now. So he sent my uncle sent me a lot of those burned for one Halloween and one of which was The Raven. And I think I had just finished up the Doctor five series and I went into The Raven really not knowing anything about it because by that point, you know, I didn't really use IMDb much. The only thing I have was by Leonard Malton Film guide Book, which is what I used to look up most of these fucking nerves. So I didn't know a lot about it. And I'm immediately like, within the first, you know, ten minutes of the movie, I was like, this could be a lot of fun. And then by the end of it, I was just like, this is this is so much fun? Like I was blown away by seeing young Jack Nicholson, cause I remember actually pausing the movie and looking it up to see if that was him, because I apparently didn't payttich to the credits at the beginning. Oh well, I mean, in your defense, you learned to read when you were twenty eight. This is also true. Yeh, but no, I remember like positive look of Jack Nicholson. I remember just being blown away even then at the effects of the magic scene, both by how they held up and how they looked. Still. Yeah, it's a double edged sword. The magic scene's super fun and some of it holds up very well and some of it a little less. But honestly, only a few shots look terrible. Yeah, that's like your acts that they drew. It's like clearly an illustration. But yeah, no, I remember genuinely having a great time with this one, but it was one I really didn't go back to you much until I think it was about, uh about five years ago. I think actually during Quarantine, I decided to open up my Vincent Price box at the old MGM DVD box set that had those in it. Wow, and I watched all of them, and remember the Raven Sigma me pay well. So I was pretty excited for to choose this one for us to close out with. I would hope, yeah, you know, I mean that's when I liked the least. Whatever, bro, this one fucking sucked, We'll do that one. So you're ready to get into the Raven. Of course I thought we already were only forty one minutes. It's fine. So we opened with the sound of some ticking and it's accompanied by a voiceover by Vincent Price as he recites is it the first like three lines of the Raven or it's it's more than that. It's like the first few paragraphs paragraph and we see beautiful shots of a beach. We see a raven appear on a psychedelic background, which is also one of the things I always forget about, is that psychic background. They just they just they loved that so much in this when we were watching it at first, Like why did they love that so much? They always had it was it was like a paint thing. I don't know how to describe it, but it's like a psychedelic paint swirl thing. And they just threw that on there because you know what, like we got, hey, the film's in color, may as well use all of them. We're gonna throw an outline of a raven up, and then we're gonna have shots of a beach, shots of a water, and we also see a really uh I wouldn't say dilapidated, but it's not in great shape castle mansion. I mean what castles are in great shape? That's fair. I mean the whole point of castles. They're old and decrepit. Yes, And we see that he's also speaking about his recently lost wife Leonora like the poem, and we see a coffin as he does this, and then we cut to the desolate mansion and inside we meet doctor Rasmus Craven, who was working as magic drawing the crow outline that we've just recently seen. You mean, the raven outline Raven, I keep saying crow. Wow, Well, because you were born under a hot top of mom, baby, So but yeah, he's working on the raven outline that we see. And that's when a window blows open and it erases what he's drawing. So he goes over to close the window. Head, what's his telescope on the way too, I like that little touch, yeah, And he goes and shuts the window, walks back around his telescope and he like gives it a nye, like a a you, And then he looks around the mansion. He's just looking for some we don't know exactly what, and that's when he runs into his daughter, Estelle, and she's like, you know, father, how are you like? You know, you've been mourning a lot. And he explains, you know, well, while she was just you know, a stepmother to you, my linortomy was great, like you know, she was untouchable, and I greatly miss her. So Estelle decides to go ahead and leave him about his morning, and she returns upstairs. So he goes back in, sits down at his desk with a nice glass of milk, and he begins to start writing or reading. But then there's a knock at his door. Do you even move? He will be right back, welcome back to do you even movie? Rapping as if somebody gently tapping or tapping as if someone gently rapping, rapping on his chamber door. So he goes to his chamber door and opens it and there's no one behind it, there's no one beside it. So then he closed the door and then he hears a tapping at his window. So he goes over to someone, we're rapping, rapping gently at his window window. Door. There you go, see you're getting it. So he goes over to his window. He pulls back the curtain and that's when he sees a raven, and a raven's just tapping against glass and he's he's delighted to see the raven and he's just like, you know, hey, you know, do you want to come inside? So he opens the door and the raven or the window, and the raven flies in and he just starts questioning, you know, who are you? What brought you here? Did my Leonor bring me here? And suddenly the raven goes, how the hell should I know? Nellie says, do you know if I'll ever be reunited or something with my lost Leonor? And he goes, how how should I know? What? Am I a fortune teller? And that's the voice of Peter Lay as we meet. We don't know it's him yet, but we meet doctor Beldon. Yes, are you gonna say? Lay? The whole? Is it? Lourie Lay? I've heard I've heard Laurie. And then when we watched those extras, that's how Corman and and Vincent Price said it. So, but they're probably wrong. That's fine, I only knew the man. So the bird complains that it's cold, and it also requests some wine. Craven offers him up some milk, and he's like, and so he goes and gets him a little wine, and of course the bird has to perch on his shoulder to drink from it, of course. And and I gotta say, the raven, hella well trained. Yeah, very very impressive the way the raven the acting quote unquote of the raven. There may be some news about that in the trivia. Oh dear, oh dear. Indeed, it's like each raven was good for about three shots before they had to break its neck and get another one. It's just a pilot, that, just a pilot, dead raven. The raven requests that he hold the cup up so you can take a perch out of it. So he purchases him, and then he's like, okay, now that that's done, I need you to help return me to my to my original form. And Craven's like, oh, your original form, said, must be under his spell. He's like, you know what happened, and the Raven says, I'll tell you more, but we've got to get some things and figure out this potion, which is bat's blood, chainings from the gallows bird and dead man's hair, and Craven's like, well, we don't have those things here. He's like, but wait, my father may have them in his laboratory and he's like, you know, you don't know, and he's like, well, I haven't been down there in years. It's very apparent when they get down there, very apparent, indeed. So they venture down the stairs to a large dungeon like space and that's where the engine like space. It wasn't a full on dungeon, it just looked like one. There was a corpse hanging from the ceiling, was there or was that just a skeleton that somebody needed. So he goes down to his dungeon and that's when it begins a search of shells. At first, he sees a giant spider and Craven's like freaked out and he's like what's wrong and he's like, oh, nothing. So then he picks up one box, blows off the dust and he's like, well, this is this and he's like, we don't need that. And he's like, what about entrails of a troubled horse. He's like, well, we don't need those either. Ghost pick up another box, opens it and it's just full of eyeballs. Yeah, and they look pretty fresh, yeah, yeah, just full of eyeballs, full of eyeballs and he's like, you know what's wrong, and he's like, I'd rather not tell you. So then he finds dead man's hair and he's like, you know, that's one of the main ingredients, so let's go ahead and get this started. So then the Raven watches as Craven puts the mixture together, and the Raven is served the mixture and he bends down starts drinking it, and that's when we meet Peter Lorie. Yes and well most of him, as he points out as he's all happy to be human again. He lifts up his arms and their wings wings, and then he starts crying, what have you time today? It's so funny because he's like really crying too. It's very very funny. So he forms himself and he's crying, and that's when he also explains that he was turned to a bird because he went and challenged doctor Scarabis to a magic competition and lost. Yeah, and that Scarabis did it with hand motion and hand motions only, which suggests that he's a very powerful conjurer. Because the average conjuror needs spells and potions, but to be able to just waw and do something that's that's a big deal. So they're walking over to his father's crypt at this point because Craven says, you know, we've run out of dead hair. I can't make another batch but Ban's hair, so we can go get some from my father. So they're going over to his crypt, and that's when he explains that doctor Scarabis was hosting him for dinner. He got drunk, he decided to challenge him, and the next thing you knew, he turned him into a raven. But maybe that's not the full story. Well, I guess we'll have to find out. I guess we will. Indeed, so the two discuss what was the brotherhood because that's when Bedloe and Craven starts striking a conversation about magic, because we saw earlier that Craven is a magician himself. Turns out his father was a very well known magician and him and Scarabis were kind of partners at one time of this brotherhood. They were members of this brotherhood that were a group of sorcerers, and they frankly scared h Craven's Craven a lot. Yeah, Yeah, he was very afraid of them. Yeah, he was very afraid of them. So that's when he tells him that you know, you better watch out, you better not return to the castle, and he you know there is a warning with this, so he goes then into the crypt and he starts cutting the from his father, apologizing just as his father comes back to life to grab him, pull him down to his coffin and say beware. A pretty nice little scary scene too, Yeah, it was no very unsettling at first. So then Beldo and Craven go to leave, and that's when Bedloe reminds him to grab the hair, so he bends down retrieves it, and that's when the echo warns again of beware. Back in his study that Craven contemplates what his father could mean by beware, which I was like, really, dude, like he's telling you the story about returning to the castle. Well, I mean like, did he mean like beware like that ham in the fridge has gone bad? Or did he mean beware like going to face my oldest opponent who may or may not have killed me? No? No, or like beware like that cheese has turned all food stuff? Yeah? Or well, I mean they didn't have refrigeration, David. They had ice boxes and dungeonvids and dungeons. Yes, or it could have been like beware, like democracy is coming, you know, it's like fifteen hundred so or beware Cutthroat Island. It's going to be the biggest bomb of the nineties. Ooh, that's a good warning. Yes, I like said that I have. I don't know he ruined it by commenting on it. It was I was like, wow, Dave's being funny. Never mind. So Bedlow states that he must return to Scarapus's castle to get his equipment back, and he asked Craven to return with them, but Craven refuses. He says, no, no, no, I'm not going to do it, like it's too dangerous. So that's when Bedlow sits down. He notices a picture all of a Nore on Craven's desk, and he asked who is that and he's like, well, sir, that's my most recently lost wife. You know, I've loved her so much. And he's like, funny, He's like, she was at the castle to night, and Craven's like, my wife was at Scapist's castle. He's like, they can't be possible unless he's perfected the magic to control her soul, in which case, he's gotten way more powerful than he ever needed to or for them intending to. And now he must join him at the castle because he has to make sure that everything is not up to it basically his power level to essentially take you over the world from the house well more so, he needs to free Lenore, yeah, because that's his lost love and stuff Scarabus from being so powerful. Yeah, you know. So that's when Craven states it's impossible and he's got to go to him because he also worries that with him controlling the soul, it may lead to him having a plot to take over the control of the House of Craven, which you know, that's his crest. He's not going to have that happen, so he must go with Bedload to prevent it. And that's when we see the two choosing robes in a very funny scene because Bedlow goes over to Craven and he's like, you know, oh, well how about this black robe? And he's like, oh no, I can't do black, and he's like, well what about this red one? So then Bedlow puts on the red robe and he goes to walk, but the robes so long that Price steps on at any trips. Actually from the moment he put it on Prices. Yeah, yeah, he walks like is a bit long, bit God, it's so good. So that's when we also see Craven tell his coachman Grimes, that they need to prepare the coach because he's going to leave. So we see Grimes out in the yard and he is walking towards the stables, but then suddenly something happens. It hits him and he falls to the ground like he's in pain. Yeah, I wonder what's gonna happen. So Bedlow and Craven are back inside, still choosing their outfits, and that's when Craven goes to run towards the door and is hit with the door as Grimes comes in wielding an axe and coming right at both a Stell Craven and a Bedlow because a Stelle was wanting to go with them to the castle because she's like, you can't go alone and do this dangerously. I've got to go with you. So Price is knocked out. Grimes is now chasing everybody with an axe and a mountain of a mountain, very big dude. So then what does Bedlow do but then just hold his jacket up and like basically do it like yah yeah, and that's when he runs into him, gets into the ground, and that's when Bedlow decides that he's going to leave, so he runs towards the door as he runs right into his own son. Ah. Yes, we get our jack Nicholson moment played by Jackie Nicholson. Indeed. So that's when the three of them face off now against the Grimes, who is then suddenly made better by Craven's magic. So Craven waves his hands and we see the want shootout and that's when Craven is or Craven takes him back to his form and he's all good and he doesn't remember coming in the house. No, Laurie's about to murder him, he acts because he comes back alive. Yeah yeah, and he's like hold on and it's like, no, he was under he was under the influence of something. Because it's our friend. He doesn't usually try to kill us, at least not on the weekend. So that's when they decide that they're all going to go to the estate because now that Rexford, which is Bedlow's son, is joining them. He's like, you know, mom wants you to home. And he's like, why I can't go home. I have to go back and get my magic stuff. And he's like, well, then I'm coming with you. So now Rexford, Estelle, Bedlow, and Craven all jump into the coach to go ahead and ride off to Scarabus's castle. There's a lot of names in this movie. Usually characters have names. Shut, I've noticed a lot of big group names in this one. I should say, okay, David, you stop it. So then that's when we see that Rexford's going to take charge of the coach. So he's going to drive the coach with a Stelle sitting in the front seat. So now we have Craven and Bedlow in the back and Stelle is riding with Oh my god, I'm forgetting his name Rexford. There's so many names that came track of this right now, what we'll think, goodness, she took notes. I did take notes. The problem is they're all blended together. Uh oh, but the enlargedess. That's what happens when Dave does this job drunk. Shut up what I'm just just telling him. So Rexford's driving the coach and he's like, you know, hey, your my father said something about your coach driver, what happened? And that's when a Stelle starts talking about what happened to Grimes. And as she's doing this, we see Rexford just starts getting completely crazy the same way. Yeah, he goes, it's great, she's describing, like you know, and his lips were thin and his mouth was a wide grin, and then he's just doing exactly what she's saying. Early Jack Nicholson grit smile. Yes, so good. Yes. Then he starts just freaking riding that horse drawn buggy as fast as they go, and and just he's totally gone mad, going mad. Stell goes to scream. He covers her mouth. So he's just driving, driving the coach, one hand over her mouth, driving the horses. They're riding next to cliffs. They're riding next to a beach by the cliff and everything. And suddenly he snaps out of it as they arrive right in front of Scarabus's castle. Yeah, I mean, it was a good way to get them there quick. It was so the four enter of the cast. As we see them come to a door and we see that the door just suddenly opens and at first Bedlow's like, okay, well you go in and Creams like, I'm not going in, and so Bedlow sends Rexford in. So Rexford walks in, he peaks around, He's like, there's nobody here. So the three of them walk in. So the four back together as the doors just slam shut on their own, and we see a grand hall, a fire pit, their sculptors all down the way. And that's when Aramis decides to call to doctor Scarabus because he's like, you know, Bedlo's like, you know, there's no one here, Let's go ahead and leave. And he's like doctor Scarabus. So he starts calling to him, and his voice just echoes through this castle. So this castle is huge. Yeah, it makes Price's character's castle look like nothing. And I think it's gargantuan. And I think one of the things we just point out with the set of this too is, uh, this was the end towards the end of the post series, so all the sets they had from the previous films they could use for this one. Yeah, they were saving them as they built them. Yeah, so each movie had more and more sets, So this one has the most set pieces. The castle looks grand, and I mean we'll get there more as we go into the story. But this, this is a cool looking set. I would say, oh yeah, yeah. And it's so I mean, it's so massive because most of the film takes place in the common area. Yeah, the front of the castle, and it's huge, huge, just giant. So entering the hall, that's when they still call it doctor Scarabus again and Estelle says, you know that she's afraid, and suddenly we see Scarabus appear at the top of the steps, coming out of shadow. He goes, afraid, my dear, there's nothing to be afraid of. He introduces himself to Erasmus as he makes his way down the steps, commenting on what a great fan of his father he was and how good of friends they were. He asked who a Stelle is. Then he's like, don't tell me. He's like, this must be your daughter. I can tell by her look. And he's like, and this isn't your son speaking to expert, And that's when Bedlow goes, no, that's mine. Peeking out from behind Chris, so he's hiding from Scarabus. And that's when Scarabis is questioned by Erasmus as to you know what, you know what brings you to my home and Erasmus says, you know, well, I've heard my wife is here, like is her soul here? Have you taken control of her wife? And scarabis At first states that he would never, and he goes down, laying like a little bit near his fire pit and he clutches his heart as he with some magic up, pulls a rope down and summons a young woman that is mistaken for who we thought Leonore was, or who I guess who Laurie thought Leonore was. Yeah, because it's a different woman. He's like, well, that's not my Lenore. He's like, you know, I'm sorry for bothering you. And he's like, no, no, no, you know, why don't you all join me for dinner? As he completely just conjures up some food well I mean, and not like I would with he uses magic, uses magic and summons a full meal as they all sit down and Bedlow brings up you know, hey, you know I didn't really want to talk about it. You know, I hope you forgot about turning me into a rave and he's like, well I thought you. I would have thought you would have too, And he's like, you know, well you did it, and he's like, well you tried to kill me, so now he's changing stories on him. Yeah, and he said, you know, he states that he hoped he would have forgotten. And that's when Erasmus questions, you know, He's like, you know, you said that you and my father were great admirers at each other. He's like, I never got that impression from him. He's like, you know, my father really didn't say much about you. And he's like, well, as you know, like in the world of magic, it's not what you see that is truth, and that kind of wins over Craven's respect for a bit. So that's when Craven realizing what he means. You know, Bedlow is wanting, of course his items return, and Scarapis is like, no, no, I'll return your magic. You just have to promise. And of course he's like, I'm not gonna promise you anything. In fact, I challenge you to a duel once again. As he's drinking. Why not, right, I mean, you know, get a little liquid courage and you get back to work, just going on a drunken rant and challenge Scarapis again as he tries to move past it, but Bedlow just won't have it. So scarapist is like sitting there, like Karlof is sitting there, and he's just like, you know, I'm not gonna let this room my dinner like you know house everybody else is doing. And Peter Larie is just like, you know, no, no, we're gonna fight. We're gonna finish this. So suddenly he just summons his magic kit, and of course Bedlow goes and grabs it, throws it to the floor, starts going through it, grabs his wand and comes at you know, scarapists as you would at this point. It's pretty much like you when you get a little ya, you get a little liquored up, you're ready to fight. I mean there there are those moments, yes, I know. So that's when we see that Scarapist just fights off every single attack that Bedlow throws at him like it's nothing, and he ends it by his wand going limp. And that's when Bedlow goes, you dirty old man, as he returns to the floor and summons another piece of equipment and he takes out the statue that's like a globe, and we suddenly see that Scarabus is secretly using magic right in front of a stell and Price because they can't see them to make this globe like start having fire, it starts summoning a storm, and Peter Loray thinks he's doing this the entire time. Yeah yeah, And that's cut short though, as the storm gets way too fierce and suddenly lightning crashes through a window and turns Bedlow into just a puddle of red. Do You Even? Movie will be right back, welcome back to Do You Even? Movie? But it's not the red we think it is, because as Craven approaches, he's like, oh, Raspberry Jam, that's a pretty great fake that's a really good fake out. So that's when Scarabus, you know, he's like, you know, hey, I think your daughter has like seen too much night, you know, if she's welcome to lay down for a bit. And that's when Craven's like, you know, no, no, we really should get on the way, and he's like, oh, with this storm, it's so fierce out, you know, I insist stay the night in my castle. Which remember when a mysterious man who you especially don't trust insists you stay the night in his castle. Yeah, it's gonna be fine. I mean it's honestly, like you probably the best night sleep you ever have so if temper pedic mattresses in every room, I'm trying to think it was. There was a bit recently that I heard about Bromstoker's Dracula about how, you know, how he welcomes Harker and what end. But like, what if Dracula was just the bitchiest like airbnb host and whatnot for his guest. And I haven't been able to stop thinking about that sense. Well, I mean he was a pretty good host, you know, I mean let you hang out with his brides sort of. So we see us still walking through the castle and that's when she comes to a room and Rexter comes in behind, covering her mouth. He tells her he doesn't want her to scream, and that's what he tells her that he thinks Scarapis killed his father because he saw him using the hand motions. He saw him using the magic, so he knows his father did not cast that spell. So that's when Estelle informs him that her father trusts Scarabis now, but Rexford says that he still needs to talk to him because he thinks he convince him. And they go to the door and the door is suddenly locked. They can't get out the door so that's when Rexford decides that he's gonna go through the window and just walk across the castle balcony to the ledge where his father, where the father is staying. That's easy enough, so not dangerous at all, not dangerous at all. As he climbs out the window and he's just looking down fearful as you know, he's just making his way across the ledge, and that's when we cut over to Craven as he's in his room just enjoying himself, and suddenly, outside of his window he sees a vision of Leonore and she says nothing. She approaches the window and then walks away, so he runs outside, chasing after her and does not find her. Meanwhile, back in her room, we see Lenore come in and she returns to find Scarabis waiting for her. As they comment that, you know, she comments, the weather's still caught out there. I can't I've made that storm so bad, and that's when Scarabis also explains that you know, you shouldn't taken control of the coach like that, how you almost killed him, and she's like, when you know, I didn't want you wanted him alive when he was here, revealing that Scarabis, Leonore are all in together and she's actually alive. Well, I mean we suspected something was up. She faked her death so to become Scarabis's mistress because she wants his money and his magic. Well, I mean that's not really his mistress, is it. That's like his wife. It's his wife. But I mean she says she wants nothing else, Like they don't. They don't like cuddle or anything like that, because he even like puts a hand on her and she's like nothing else. Well, homie, a miss, I know that you maybe haven't had these talks before you stop, But a mistress is more focused on sex, yes, than a wife, I know. But at the same time whatever, I'm just trying to help as your lifestyle guide and a lifestyle guide, as your as your life coach, just trying to make sure you understand. Wikipedia called her the mistress. That's where I'm getting that from. Oh, well, I mean in a way, I bet she would be usually a mistress. I mean I guess because you're not a secret lover. Yeah, but usually she wouldn't be like, you know, wouldn't be able to get all his shit. Yeah, you know, when he dies. But then again, this is a flawless story continued. So she's alive, hiding on the castle to be with him, and she did not want Craven. She didn't know Craven was visiting, and she's like, you know, I did no idea you wanted him alive here, and that's when he questions, you know, how did you know he was coming? And she's like, you know, I really don't know. And he's like, well, let me show you why he's here, and that's when they go into the room. And before we get there though, Rexford and Estelle are making their way down the hall. They run into Bedlow and he's like, you're Rexford and Bedlo ran into each other, and that's when he's like, you know, you gotta go save a Stell. When I go into the room, go run and get the Stelle because we're going they're gonna come in here, and I'm going to distract them. So he runs into the room and that's when we see that Scarabus and Leonora have returned to the room, and that's when they reveal that Bedloe has also been on it and he was sent by Scarabis to bring Craven to the castle because he doesn't want Craven. He wants his magic. I mean, I mean his dick magic, his dick, my god. So that's when we see that Rexford has arrived. He's gotten a stell out, and that's when they're running to go find Craven. They go into his room and they tell him that you know the father, my dad's still alive, but Scarabis is here. He wants your magic, and he also wants a stell. That's when we also find out that Scarabis is gonna use a stell to get to Craven's magic. That's the plan he has. So they start running out towards the door, and that's when we see that Rexford has gotten to Estell. He's gotten Craven. They're all running out and they go to the door as suddenly the door slams shut. They run into it. We see Craven's turn into stone. Estelle is in fear, and Rexfort is just like stuck against the door. Yeah, and Craven turning to stone was kind of funny because he looked Chinese. He did look a lo in the just the one that he froze solid. Yeah, he look kind of Chinese. I don't know. So Estelle is in fear now and she's also been captured by Scarabis, who also captures Bedlow because you know, he's like, well, what about the rest of my deal? And that's when we find out that he's not gonna give him rest of the deal because he uses magic, and now Bedlow is tied in ropes. What the hell? I thought that the saying was there's always honor amongst thieves. That's exactly the same. Yeah, yeah, that's the saying. What the hell. So that's when, you know, we also are now into the dungeon with the Stell, Rexford, Bedlow, and Craven. They're all tied to stones and they all are watching as Scarabist ready's a red hot fire poker, but it's not just quite right yet, even though it's already smoking. As his one henchman takes it out. Well, you gotta get it just right if you want to make the right point, eh, Yeah, So he apologizes. Bedlow apologized to Exford and Erasmus for conspiring with Scarabis, and that's he says that he felt so special being in the world of the brotherhood that you know, he just kind of lost his lost his way and he's sorry that he betrayed his friends, and that's when Craven apologized to himself for being so mournful and not living, which allowed Scarabist to get to the power that he has. So then Leonora breaks the silence as she applauds them and also mocks that Craven is alive and you know, he's still madly in love with her, and she's like, oh, well, you still bore me. And also I'm with Scarabis now burn Jerry jer ree yeer ree Caarabis appears telling them that they are ready. As we see, Estelle is taken from her post that she's tied to and put into stocks. They untie Craven as well, and he is brought to the front of the cage, but not before Bedlow asks if he can be let go. So she's putting the stocks, putting the not bond, not bonds, mutual funds, but Bedlow requests that he be let go. He doesn't care what happens to the others, which this this tickles Scarabis because he's like, really, like, you don't care what happened these people, And he's like, I don't see anybody else here, just you and me having a conversation. I don't see nobody else here. So Scarabis, moved by his betrayal, decides to turn him back into a raven. As he flies to the nearest window and Bedlow flies away, saying goodbye to everybody. And now we're getting close. So Scarabis then reveals that he wants the magic from Craven's hands, and the way he's gonna get it is either he's gonna hand over the magic or he's gonna introduce this hot poker into Stelle's flesh. Yeah. So that's when we see that Bedloe is secretly flown back in as the raven. He goes to let Rexford out of his ropes. Rexford attacks Scaapist's henchmen, knocking him to the side, allowing Arabis to be free, and that's when he knocks the magic out of his hand. The two of them have a magic duel for all about what a minute or so, the magic duel between no, no, no, but before the duel to the oh okay, okay, okay, yeah, yahnute or so yeah for sure, and that's when we see that Scarabis weakens and he's like, you know, enough of this. There's only one way for us to decide this, We're gonna have to have a magic duel to the death. And this is the height, like the absolute highlight of this film. It absolutely is. It is so much fun. They they sit in chairs across from each other and begin taking turns casting deadly spell deadly spells. We start each other. We start with a Craven's neck is wrapped by a snake. He turns the snake into a scarf throws it back at Scarabus, who then turns it into a Chinese fan, which he fans himself with. We then see him turn the fan into knives that he starts hurling at the Craven, and they continue going until he puts up blocks to get them. There's a cannon at one point, statues turn into like beasts and start growling, until Craven turns into puppy dogs. No, there's floating around them getting stabbed by things, and then fake out it's not my body anymore. Yeah, I mean we just it just goes and goes and goes and goes. We can't do it justice. One of my so much favorite it's one of my favorites. Where we get to the fireballs is the one where he hits them with the spear. He goes up and like the spears turned to splinters, and then scare of Us gets hit with an egg because Cravens sitting on the chandelier above him. Oh, the spear wasn't turned to splinters. What was it? It was? He was his body was dumble stuff, dummy saw us yea, yeah, yeah, I see what I can see where you think that too? Yeah yeah, but no, it's just it went right through him. But then when he looks, it's all sawd off because he's a dummy. So he drops an egg on him. Then he drops the chandelier. He drops another egg after he looks at it, And I was like, I like that. Not only did he get up there, he got two eggs, got two eggs? Like got two eggs? Well, I mean he only needed two eggs. You're gonna go to the market again, gonna go to the market on Monday anyway, Like you said, I just need two eggs, two eggs. I'm so happy right with that reference, David, just two eggs, just two eggs. Don't be a silly billy. Oh I broke your phone and your eggs now, Well, I mean it's really not my fault that your phone was on the edge of the sink. I was just trying to your dog jumped up on me and I dropped the eggs and then the phone fell into the sink. And I'm really sorry? Are you he's sorry? Why are you being so harsh on him? He told you he's sorry. God, that movie's somuch, All right? Do we want to just do you want to stop talking? Funny? Funny games? One man funny games. So finally we get to the end of the magic duel. As they've thrown everything with each other, they've levitated around the room, and that is when they decide that they're just gonna go at it one on one, and they throw their hands up at each other. We see, what is it, green light coming from Carloff, we see yellow light coming from Price. And they're just battling each other for about a solid thirty seconds when suddenly Scarabis Weekends. That's when Craven takes control of the magic completely hits him with it and behind him. This whole time they've been throwing fireballs and other things. The castle is starting to deterior rate now and basically it's just now now Karloff is basically throwing like magical voltov cocktails. Yeah, they're there. He's throwing them, and Price is dodging them, and they're hitting the walls and just the walls are catching on fire like crazy, which I know that Corman often said like, I don't want the films to blend together. I want them to be different. Yeah. I'm like, oh, well, you set the castle on fire for a change of paces. Yeah, always set the castle on fire. No. I mean, I think it's awesome, but I'm just saying that they always end up setting the castle on fire. So that's when we see that Craven basically takes over and he has brought he's brought Scarabus to the floor, and that's what he's like, you know, we've got to get out of here. We've got to run. And that's when Leonora, of course, is running to him and she's like, you know, I always knew you could do it, you know, please take me back, and Craven's not interested, and he's like, frankly, frankly, Leonore, I don't give a damn. I don't give a damn indeed. So that's when we see Lenor is grabbed by Scarabus and he holds onto her as the castle starts falling in on them. The four of them escape to the coach. They drive away as the castle is just imploding, blowing up, it's on fire, it's raining down, and we see Scarabus and Lenoir afterwards have survived. But now Scarabis no longer has his magic. No, they rise about a pile of rubble, so the two of them have survived, Scarabis has lost his magic back at Craven's control of the Brotherhood is now for Craven, and of course it's questioned by Bedlow, who is like, you know, hey, can I be your personal assistant? You know, we can help each other out. And Craven's like, hey, homie, do you think I've forgotten the first betrayal that you laid upon me that brought me to that castle. Yeah, it's a little bit of a yeah, I didn't. He didn't forget that. No, he did not at all. So that's when Bedlow is like, okay, well, if that's the case, then you know, just turn me back into a man and I'll be on my way. And he's like, I'll take an under consideration. And he's like, you'll take it under consideration, and he's like up, so he has bedlow fly on top of a statue, and that's when he also puts a mute spell on him, so the bird's beak can no longer open. And as we do with the best vincent price way possible, he looks into us at the at the audience and says, quoth the Raven nevermore? And that is nineteen sixty three's the Raven? Yes, yes it is. Did you just have to grab your tongue immediately after you were done speaking arible? I couldn't wait until I had like a second to distract people from it. Instead, you just did it. You're going to help it. You're a disgusting animal to try to be my lord. But no, and it's a solid ending. I love that it ends. It goes back to basically the beginning of the film, which makes sense because the beginning starts as the poem the Raven, so it ends again in the chamber with the Raven. Absolutely No, it's a solid ending. I mean that the climax with that magic fighting is worth the entire runtime of the film just to get to that part. I mean, like we've already mentioned that, like the effects they hold up and they don't because there's some really good light work and stuff in it. And like the one thing that we watched on the bonus features the scene where they're levitating and whatnot. That was because Corman had the idea to put the chairs on camera cranes. Yeah, so the camera crane was lifting them up and the camera was lifting with them. Yeah, so they are like floating around floating. Yeah, it's so good. But no, I love I love that medic sequence. So would you like to know some fun things about the film. There's no fun in this thing. Oh, there's plenty of fun. So what do you chuge? It was? Oh, okay, well this was nineteen sixty what three three, three hundred and fifty thousand on the nose? On the nose? I didn't know that. Yeah, I will say, I mean like through osmosis. I've heard and read all of Corman's books. Yeah, and I feel like that number was bandied a lot as what AIP was willing to pay. That is bizarre that I actually nailed it was three. It really was three fifty three fifty three hundred and fifty thousand. That's so funny. So it opens on January twenty, third of nineteen sixty three. The box office it takes in is one million, four hundred ninety nine dollars two hundred and seventy five And that's pretty good because back then they didn't spend as much money on ads. No. So shot in Los Angeles, California. The movie was shot in fifteen days. That's pretty snug for that kind of film. Do You Even movie will be right back, welcome back to Do You Even? Movie? So I feel like this is a great time for us to talk about the terror? Shall we? The terror of what? The terror of this of this movie? Because it broke off and made another movie in Corman's way? Well, yeah, according to Corman, he it rained so we couldn't play tennis, correct, And that was the beginning of a movie, a little film called The Terror. So go ahead, Dave here. So The Terror is from nineteen sixty three as well. And essentially what happened with The Terror was Corman. Corman had the set for The Raven and they had Carloff still and they wanted to do another movie with him. So that's when he What was it like was it a day that they wrote that screenplay with that? It was like a day or two. They well, they didn't write a screenplay. Yeah, Corman had a writer just write twenty or thirty pages of just dialogue. Yeah, and they had the sets extra for a few extra days because they weren't going to be torn down yet. Yeah, so they had the sets for free. Carloff. They did have to pay him, but they already had him, so they were able to get him for a discount by just adding days to his work. But yeah, they just had him read just a bunch of dialogue with Jack Nicholson. And the dialogue made no sense, no sense because there was no remaining script around it. But they wanted to take advantage of the situation, so that led to them making the film called The Terror, which is a public domain. If you find any horror host that hasn't hosted The Terror, I'd be surprised at this point. I mean I hosted it on popcorn Fodder. Yeah. Well, and it's a great film to host because the trivia for it is bountiful. Yeah, there's there's so much you can learn about The Terror as you're gonna share just a small piece of it. So do I No, you ruined it? I must have ruined it? Probably, Well, I mean. The Terror was partially directed by Peter Bogdanovitch, partially directed by Francis for Coco, partially directed by Roger Corman, partially directed by Jack Nicholson himself ridiculous, I love it, and also has the famous law, the famous scene where Dick Miller just gives you the entire exposition and plot. That was the last day they wrote. They finally just wrote the exposition. So literally, there's a scene where Jack Nicholson grabs Dick Miller, slams and he gets the wall and says, okay, what's going on here? And then for two minutes strange it just tells the entire storyline, which is clever, and there's a cool twist because spoiler it's freaking one hundred years old. But The Terror basically they revealed that the Count played by Karloff is an imposter and that years ago he had murdered the Count for sleeping with his with a woman he was in love with her wife or something, so he murdered him, and then out of grief, guilt and insanity, just became him, started wearing his clothes and living as him, which is a cool twist. It's a very cool twy but it wasn't really explained by the story, so they had Dick Miller do it. And I love that it takes place in like pre colonial like it's like it's like, uh like pre it's France. It's like France is like seventeen hundreds or something, and Dick Miller's with his fucking brick brian accent. I love that. But if you want to have a great story of the Terror and his filmmaking, the Corman's World documentary we've already mentioned. I just revisited last night in preparation of this show. Jack Nicholson has a really great interview in that documentary, because Nicholson doesn't really do a lot of interviews. No, no, he really doesn't, and he has nothing but amazing things to say about Roger Corman. He actually breaks out in tears at one point, and they actually they keep it in the documentary, but he talks about the scene with Dick Miller and just how that was the last thing that they had to do and how it still makes him laugh to this day. Yeah, because he just spills all the exposition. After the rest of the film in all four or five directors could not get it to make sense. Yeah, so that was the last tries moving back to the Raven. With the exception of previous year's Tales of Terror, which boasted a cast of Vincent Price, Peter Lourie, Deborah Paggett, and Basil rath Bone, this was the next closest low budget director Roger Corman ever came to having an all star cast. Yet despite the salaries of Vincent Price, Karloff and Laurie, it was reputably produced at a cost of three hundred and fifty thousand. It went on to become one of Corman's biggest box office hits, grossing one point five million. Wow. I didn't realize one point five was the height of the box office earnings too. Yeah. Jack Nicholson always gave high praise to everyone he worked with on set, except one, the Raven. He said, the raven pooped on everyone, but especially like to poop on him. He later said, I would look down when the raven flew off my soldier and it would shoulder and it would be covered in poop. I hate that bird. See wait, are you sure you're talking about You said it would walk around set shitting on everybody. You show us not wings hausers. God, when sales is a coot, that's an inside joke. We can't explain. Uh so move on. Producer and director Roger Corman and screenwriter Richard Matheson had enjoyed making the comic The Black Cat episode Tales of Terror in nineteen sixty two and wanted to attempt an entirely comic po feature. Vincent Price later recalled about the final duel. Boris hated being strung up in the air on those chairs. He was terribly crippled and we were both floating in the air on these wires. It wasn't a pleasant feeling. I hated having that snake wrapped around my neck for two hours. I hate snakes. Oh Man, Well, he was a pro because I would never have guessed he was uncomfortable. Yeah. Roger Corman said that although they kept closely to the structure and story script, we did more improvisation that the film had that in the others. The improvisation was in terms of dialogue and bits of business from the actors. I mean, I believe that, Yeah, when it comes to comedy, a little bit of improvisation can go a long way. Yeah, Hazel Court said in an interview years later that it irritated her when the film came out when critics focused on her breast more than her acting. One time magazine critic wrote, the sexy, lusty Redhead is played by English actress Miss hazel Court in Who's Cleavage? You can sink the entire works of Edgar Allen Pope plus a bottle of his favorite booze and two danm They're not wrong. Both Boris Karloff and hazel Court had previously starred in Frankenstein movie, Karloff playing Frankenstein's monster three times in Frankenstein and thirty one, Brida Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein, where hazel Court would go on to play Elizabeth, a love interest in Victor Frankenstein and the Hammer films The Curse of Frankenstein. Oh yeah, yeah, Mattheson who. Of course, Richard Mathison was on set for most of it. He imagined Peter Lay as the raven while writing the script, so he already had him in mind. He wrote twenty to thirty pages while on vacation with his wife. I mean, you know, when inspiration strikes found making a poem from a movie was ludicrous, so he turned it into a comedy a movie from a poem. Oh my bad. He never got to personally speak with Karloff, but he was very happy to watch him work. Except the one thing he said was the scene when Karloff is introduced and comes down the stairs that his legs were in such bad shape. He was panicking the whole time that he was going to fall. Yeah. American International Pictures allowed Price in Matheson to form a friendship working with those two with those Poe movies, they formed a really good friendship. He's known Price for a long time and Price was known to be a big people pleaser on the set. As they said with the visiting family members, So Price would like entertain family members that were visiting from the set, the cast and whatnot. Well, I mean he was a huge star. Yeah. So that is the facts that I have for The Raven. Would you like to give your final thoughts on The Raven? H? Yeah, sure. So. The only reason I'm not gonna give it an own it is because while it's a lot of fun and it's got the all star cast, it isn't a if it had. The one piece that's missing is if it were a great representation of Poe. That doesn't mean the movie's not good, but it's not a great representation of Poe's It's kind of a parody almost. Yeah. They definitely took what very little they had and ran with it. So I loved it. But since it doesn't have that, like, for lack of a better term, that educational element of teaching you a lot about like pose, mythos and pathos and all that shit, since that's not there, I would call it a rent it if you love old movies, yeah, and you know, if you find old movies cozy, this is a cozy one. Absolutely. I also gave it a rented as well. It's easily one of the most action packed of the pose I would say, Oh god, yeah, I mean from the AIP years. I mean, this is one of the best. A great performance by all involved in the chemistry between Price and Lori is a lot of fun to watch. The comedy hits big for it, and the magic fight has no business being as fun as it is. Oh, it's super fun inside, so you can tell her having a blast doing it. Yeah, it's the most derailed from the original source material, but you can understand why this is one of Roger's favorites. So yeah, it's an absolute rented for me as well. And as we always like to do, we like to wrap up with a couple of recommendations on top of that. I've got one or I've got two this week. First one being The Pit and the Pendulum from noineteen sixty one, in sixteenth century Francis Bernard travels to Spain to clarify the strained circumstances of his sister's death after she had married the son of a cruel Spanish inquisitor. And then the other one I have is The Old Dark House from nineteen thirty two, another karl Off one that I just recently discovered and cannot recommend enough. Seeking shelter from a storm, five travelers are in for a bizarre and terrifying night when they stumble upon the Femme family estate. What do you have, Well, my number one recommendation would be The Haunting of Morella from nineteen ninety good call, directed by Jim Monorski, based on post story, and it's just a lot of fun. It's super high quality. They have a water fountain scene that are at water fountain, a waterfall scene that's really like surprisingly great looking It stars Nicole Eggert and David McCollum. They're both at their best game in it. And I think it's honestly recently become available because for a while there it was on a really out of print DVD. Yeah, it was on a really out of print Blu Ray because I own yeah, I own it. Still, I don't know that. It doesn't look to be readily available anywhere. As far as I can tell. It was on TV for a little bit. Damn, let's see, I'll check real quick. Nope, I don't think it was ever on to Be Homie. I swear it was on two BE because I was looking at TV one day. No, I no for effectives on to be Actually okay, well it's not on there anymore. Yeah, so and that's probably your fault. And also, as a wrap up the show, I had pitched something to Enrique as we close out Roger Corman Appreciation Month. We wanted to go ahead and give some honorable mention titles that we didn't do episodes on. But these are movies that you should definitely seek out, and do you want to go first? I think we'll do one one one, okay, Yeah, because I went for Super deep cuts, Yeah, because some of my favorite Corman stuff is the stuff that most people don't know about. But I'll go with my lope with My first two are not deep cuts, Okay, first up would be my favorite of all time, Swerdy House Massacre two absolutely again another Jim Wunorski directed film, technically produced by Julie Corman. But they're a packet deal. Yeah, that one is just so much fun. Is at the end of the slasher boom. It's it's self aware, it's silly, it's got a great sense of humor. I there's nothing I complain about when it comes to Saredyes, Masacre too personal, it's a blast. So what's yours, Dave? So I'm gonna go with a deep cut as well. For my first one, I'm gonna go ahead and recommend Cockfighter from nineteen seventy four. We did have a good time with that one. Cockfighter, directed by Monti Hellman, starring Warren Oates and Harry Dean Stanton, also has brief appearances of Ed Begley Junior. You've got Steve Rails back at it at one point. But it is the story of a cockfight cockfighter who basically a cocky Cockfighter who gets two cocky and he decides that this last win is going to put him on a year of silence until he wins this championship. So Warren Oates is in the movie, but he does not speak until the last five minutes. Yeah, he does not speak. It's it's a really good movie produced by Roger, but I will warn you very strong animal violence. Are real cockfights. There's real chickens dying throughout the entire film. And it's it's an exploitation film. There, yeah, there. This movie is an excuse to show a shit ton of cockfights. Yeah. Cockfighting takes up a good third of the running time. It's like a sex movie where the sex takes up a third or a half the running time, except it's cockfighting, yes, which is not nearly as exciting. But American audiences, especially that were from not Appalachia, not not the South, we're just mortified and fascinated. Yeah. So, and Cockfighter is readily available on many streaming services as well. Yeah, don't know what cut you're gonna get, but oh uh okay, I got one more. This is before I dive into my super deep CUTSK. This is nineteen eighty nine's Blood Fist. Blood Fist, Oh, starring Don the Dragon Wilson, a man who, by the way, I've literally never heard a negative word about ever, which is impressive because there was a time period where he was a sought after talent and often saw talents could be kind of dickish. But Blood Fist super fun. Yes, it spawned eight, I believe sequels, direct sequels, maybe seven or eight direct sequels. Some of them are literally the same screenplay but set in a different place, and all starred Don the Dragon Wilson. I love that era of Roger Corman. My sweet spot for Corman is the mid eighties through the nineties. Personally. I know that he's done a lot of great stuff earlier than that, but that's just my personal sweet spot, and Blood Fist is a great example of when he just made Roger would find something that works and do it a million times. He did a strip club, you know, erotic thriller, it did well. He did twenty of them. Yep. He did a kickboxing movie, it did well, He did twenty of them. He would just keep on keeping on. So that's my next pick. It's Blood Fist from nineteen eighty nine, starring don the Dragon Wilson another do you cut on my list? We're gonna go with nineteen nineties brain Dead, starring Bill Pullman, Bill Paxton, Budcourt and directed by Adams Simon. This is one that's become less lost because people are discovering it. It came out on Blu Ray, it was streaming. It's it's still streaming in some places, and it often it gets confused with Dead Alive, which is called brain Dead overseas, and then Kevin Tenney's brain Dead from like two thousand. I want to say nine, which is a really fun movie too, and that's also streaming everywhere. But brain Dead, that's a great one. That's one that was going to be on my list, But go ahead, I'm stealing with Thunder. The Synops on IMDb says, in a showdown of Man versus Machine, Martin plunges into a chaotic nightmare trying to save his mind from a meglomaniac corporation. This movie is insane. It keeps you on your toes, guessing, trying to figure out with Pullman, like what's going on. There's a lot of great performances. It's got a lot of really good scares, as well, and the ending is just pure dark poetry. It was a lost like basically an unused, unproduced screenplay from one of the original writers of like I think it was Twilight Zone. Yeah, I think you're right. Yeah, it was a script that sat around for decade Charles Beaumont, and then Julie Korman dusted it off and was like, this is what we'll do. Yeah, and it's such a cool concept really and a legitimately scary movie that a really creepy poster still too. Yeah, the poster is terrifying, but also readily available on many streaming apps as well. Do You Even Movie will be right back, welcome back to Do You Even Movie? Well, now, the next three I'm about to mention are not readily available in any way, shape or form we go, so you better be ready to put on your hunting panties. Boys. So my first one is nineteen ninety six is Alien Avengers. I've seen that, have you? I think, isn't it like insanely gory with it's obscenely violent? I know? Oh wait, yeah, we talked about this, yeah, gege George went, yes, the dad, there's an alien Avengers and an alien Avengers too, both are really fun, honestly, and both you should watch together. But George Went and Shannon Shannon Reid or Shanna Reid star in Alien Avengers one and Alien Avengers two is George rant Went and Julie Brown Downtown you le Brown. They're aliens on this earth trying to figure out how to get home. But they have no problem murdering people if they find them to be rude or disingenuous or whatever. They're just totally fine with killing them and just like leaving their bodies and dumpsters. It's really weird. It was part of the Roger Corman Presents series on Showtime in the nineties. Highly underrated and again, if you can find it, you'll thank me. And I've got one that if you can find you'll thank me as well. We're gonna go with nineteen ninety three's Carnosaur. I can't believe Carnosaur is not anywhere. It was for a bit and now it is nowhere. Well, they've got it. They've gotta be shouts, gotta be planning to do a box hopf got to. But carnur is the IDB synopsis says a genetically manipulated and very hungry dinosaur escapes from bioengineering company and wreaks havoc on local desert town. A security guard and a girl environmentalists try to stop both it and the company's doomsday blow what is it bioweapon? This movie is insane. If you ever watched Jurassic Park and been like, man, I wish there was just more insane dinosaur attacks that were extremely gory and uh, I believe I don't even know how to explain it. This movie is just wild and also has one of the darkest endings of Carnisaur. But all three carnosaurs are ideal. Oh yeah, there's so much fun, and I love how you got the first Carnosaur and they have all the big monster effects, and then the second one they have big monster effects, but also they use all of the monster effects from the first one and as well. So then part three uses all the effects from one and two and then has more of its own, and then all of those were used in Raptor, sort of a Carnoisaur sequel in spirit good old Raptor. Okay, So this next one is nineteen ninety five You Stripped teaser by and directed by Dan Golden, written by my good buddy Dwayne Whittaker. Yes. And when a blind vagrant enters a nightclub called Zipper's Clown Palace for a last call drink, pleasure turns to panic as he pulls a gun and holds exotic dancer Christina hostage. What follows is a deadly confrontation between madness and sanity, starring Maria Ford and Rick Dean. Of all of the stripper movies that Corman did, obviously Strip to Kill and Strip to Kill two are very well loved, and they should be. And there are a lot of great ones that I appreciate quite a bit. But Strip Teaser is so odd ball. Yeah, but it works really well. It has a great twist, has several great twists that keep you guessing. I love Strip Teaser. I've always been an advocate of strip Teaser have I'm also a big advocate of Dan Golden. I think he's an incredibly underrated director. Dan mostly produces movies for mar Vista and tub Now, but for a long time he was like a mainstay at the Corman camp. He directed a movie that I almost chose, which was Saturday Night Special, which is one of like five or six films with the same script. Oh wow, But they would just switch a few bites. And I've watched all of them. It's fascinating some of them. They change a lot. One of them literally had the exact same be story. I mean the exact same be story like they if it had been the same actors, they could have just reused it anyway. But strip teaser. That one's a fun one. But again, good luck finding it. But it is great. Well, I'm gonna throw you one that hopefully might be easier to find. We talked about it on the show already. But I cannot get out of this series again without recommending the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre because that was one that I got recommended to me that I had no idea Corman had an association with. I mean he directed it. Yeah. No, that one's a ton of fun. It's the al Capone Valentine's Da Masacre story. But then you've got al Capone played by Jason Robarbs, George Theagall who plays Peter Gusenberg. You've got who else is in this, Bruce Dern. I mean, there's a bunch of people in this one. It's a really good gangster flick. But also a top tier performance by Jason Robarbs, who I really have really grundled of the last several years. Yeah, I know it's a really phenomenal film and I lied it is. You can rent it on Amazon, but as far as streaming it goes for free, it's not available anywhere right now, nowhere to be found. So save out Edgeamasacer in nineteen sixty seven. Highly highly recommend. My final deep Deep Cut is another Dan Golden film, oh from nineteen ninety five. Burial of the Rats, which you mentioned earlier, which is based on the Bram Stoker story, stars Adrian Barbo and Maria Ford. The production values are insane. It's shot in Europe. It looks amazing. I can't remember where exactly a film, but now I could probably look it up real fast. Let's see. Uh oh they actually shot it in Russia. Oh shit in Mosque. Look out a film during the Kudat Tat attempt in Moscow in October in ninety ninety three, Adrian Barbbo still recounts when Marshal Law was declared and she feared that she would never see her family again. Jesus man, I need to see if Dan gold would talk to me about making that fucking movie. I bet he would. But also it's also it should be mentioned that it's a rush. They shot it in Russia. It's based on Burial of the Rats. But it's super sleazy. There's tons of nudity, tons of sex, I remember, tons of violence. Really a fun film and a lost gem. Yeah, but if you can find it, you'll thank me. And I'm going to end with a one that's pretty much on the nose. But I think this was one that really got my attention to Korman back in the day. Twenty ten, Sci Fi presents Shark to Puss. I do love Shark to Puss. Roger Corman presents Shark to Puss on sci Fi. I remember when this premiered. And honestly this also is three years before Sharknado, So Shark to Puss really, in my opinion, kind of kicked off a lot of those returns to if you watch Okay, okay, right, let's let's do this. Let's do this. If you watch Shark Nato. Yeah, the first one. It's and I don't I don't mean this as an insult. I love Shark Nato. Yeah, there's it's not particularly special in that Yeah, you don't know where I'm going with this. I'm gonna guess we go. Oh, where do you think I'm going with this? I want to hear it now, Cuba continue boom no. No. My point is if you look at the output that the Asylum was having at that time, Yeah, they had a lot of what I called sitting in the car disaster movies. And they were movies where there were effects and there were things happening and all this, but there was a lot of just them in their car where they would like spray rain on the car or spray snow on the car. They did like one movie called like one hundred Degrees Below that was like mostly people in a car driving and snow was like hitting the windshield. My point is that I noticed that. I was like, man, that's brilliant. Like twenty minutes of screen time is just them in the car. That's the cheapest footage they can get of the disasters. So the first Sharknado movie was like clearly made very carefully, very cheaply in that tone. But unlike all those other ones that were modest successes, Sharknado became Sharknado. It became gigantic. All the other movies were much bigger and much more wild and fun. So my point is that, yeah, Sharknado was was initially nothing special, but the fans of it made it special, which is why I love it so much. I just remember when Sci Fi was doing that Roger Corman persons. I think it was like, was it like every month or like every couple of weeks where they had Shark to Puss. There was Dino Shark. There was every month. There were a few times a year because I remember like camel Spiders, Dino Sharks, Shark to Puss, pre Historic Jaws or something that. Well, there was Dino Shark versus Supercroc, Supercroc or Supercrock for yeah, Dino Shark for Supercroc. There were a bunch of them, but I just remember Shark Topus being that first one that like was just like, okay, if if sci Fi is going to be premiering these, I'm all in. Yeah. Every time I was there, that was a fun time on the Sci Fi Channel. It really was. So Shark to Pus twenty ten. That is my final recommendation. Okay, well anything else before we move on? The main character gets turned into a horrible looking monster, and the girlfriend and best friend become a two edited person and they're arguing all the time. By the end of the movie, they find out the cure is some kind of root. There also is a worm creature. Yeah, we know that that doesn't like the root, so he stays a worm. So hat macarouns you're looking for. Nineteen ninety three's Free Fread, directed by Jonathan Not Jonathan, Alex Winter Alex Winter, who you might know as a Bill from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, and starring Brookshields, William Sadler, Randy Quaid, Keanu Reeves. Secretly Keanu Reeves. Yeah, yeah, he's the dog man. This is actually, believe it or not, Daniel. This is a cult classic that was a massive cable player in the early and late nineties. That's where I first saw it. It played cable a billion times. It has been in and out of print an immense amount of times. The DVD and Blu rayth the have been multiple editions on DVD. There have been multiple editions on Blu Ray. It doesn't appear to be streaming anywhere, which is fucking crazy still, but it looks like you can get a DVD pretty cheap. I wouldn't say that those I thought I saw one for twelve or nineteen ninety nine. These are Region b's it looks like, but joking by the label, Yeah, that's possible. Because I had a print Anchor Bay disc is fifty right now. Well it's it's it's called Freaked. I'm so happy we could find that for you. Yeah. No, the moment he said that the two headed thing, I was like, that's freakd Yeah, yeah yeah, because at first I thought it was a horror movie. Say, it's much more of a ridiculous comedy movie.
