The Beekeeper (2024) Jason Statham, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeremy Irons

Henrique and David open the hive on The Beekeeper (2024), David Ayer’s fast-moving revenge thriller built around Jason Statham’s particular action-star strengths. Statham plays Adam Clay, a quiet tenant who tends honeybees on land owned by Eloise Parker. When a sophisticated call-center scam empties Eloise’s accounts and contributes to her death by suicide, Clay reveals that “beekeeper” once described a far more dangerous occupation.
Kurt Wimmer’s screenplay imagines the Beekeepers as independent operatives authorized to protect the national “hive” when ordinary systems fail. Clay follows the fraud from a local data center to entitled technology executive Derek Danforth, played by Josh Hutcherson. Jeremy Irons is former CIA director Wallace Westwyld, the fixer who understands what Clay represents. Phylicia Rashad plays Eloise, while Emmy Raver-Lampman is her daughter, FBI agent Verona Parker, who pursues Clay even as his targets expose a larger crime.
The hosts break down a campaign fought with fists, fuel, elevator cables, fire extinguishers and whatever the environment provides. Clay burns a scam operation, dismantles the gunmen sent to his barn and survives a wildly theatrical active Beekeeper at a gas station. His path ultimately reaches a presidential beach house, where Derek’s family connection and the source of campaign money raise the revenge from a personal mission to a confrontation over institutional corruption.
Henrique and David remember entering the theater with modest expectations and quickly realizing they were watching a satisfying example of the “you don’t know who you’re messing with” action subgenre. They compare its compact world-building with John Wick, Taken and First Blood while celebrating Statham’s return to an unapologetic leading role. The outrage of scams targeting older and vulnerable people gives Clay’s heightened violence a simple emotional engine the audience can immediately understand.
Production discussion covers Wimmer and Statham developing the script during the pandemic, Statham performing his own stunts and Ayer’s approach to making the setting Clay’s arsenal.
