And the make in the part where he's cutting his face open, he looked like plastic. Smart ass. Well, let's have a let's play a game. I want to play a game. The one thing I'll also say about the new transfer in just getting to see on the big screen, we have this conversation in the car on the way over here. That movie is so different from the sequel that I think people forget that that movie has a lot more horror and thriller elements than action elements. I think people it's easy, I guess, for them to forget.

6:10 As a kid seeing Terminator one first, yeah, I remember being very surprised by how dark Terminator one was, Yeah, and being a little perturbed, but then of course also loving it and being a way too young horror consumer anymore. You didn't see two before you saw one. I saw two before one. That's literally just sorry. I thought I heard differently because I was the same way I saw two before I saw the first one. Yeah, I think that that's just the way it goes for kids. If you were a kid in the early nineties or in your case whatever, I don't know, I was never I see see but no, no, no, no, no, what I dave. Right before you see that guy's dong swinging as he walks over to do it. You didn't see Arnold's. Totally did this time? You totally did this time? You interrupted me? Oh go ahead, I said, I was gonna say, you didn't see his dong on VHS. Oh okay, that's what I was.

So, but my point is nobody brought children to see the terminator when it first ran up. The really cool parents. I think that would be a stretch even then, the terminate. I mean, well, i'm talking kid. When I'm saying kid, i'm talking under ten. Okay, that's fair. No, no, no, cool parents. Were definitely taking their thirteen year old son's seat the terminator, There's no doubt about it. Yeah, and show off with your father's So anyway, here we go again. Yeah, but yeah, we're gonna talk about the Jaws The Revenge, which opens at Christmas time and takes place at Christmas time. Of course, once they go to the Bahamas, there's no snow, only shark.

It was it was the final tipping point, like we'd already had the the Conjuring two sold out. I guess for watching Jaws The Revenge happen at my house in your house, yes, Oh god. Could you imagine if it was actually showing, there wouldn't. Been a see Jaws for the Revenge. And it would have been us in that theater seeing. What's the way we're going to ever see Jaws The Revenge in the theater? Is me hosting the screening. Or it could get an anniversary screening or. Not going triff tracks, well, riff track, but that's I don't count riff tracks. As a theatrical experience, yes, but anyway, but I mean, I hey, for like probably three hundred bucks, we could like legally show.

But that is what Christmas is going to be kicking off with. Well, when I screen Jaws the Revenge in my home, it's a it's a it's an event. It's an event. I have things to react to, callbacks to the screen, the ability to pause and frame by frame, the special effects, moments that don't. Work, pointing out the scene where Mario van Peoples makes Jaws exist in the Jaws References. Mario vn Peoples's character references Jaws in a sequel to Jaws by going.

It's a long Good Friday. Well, it's not that it's not an epic though, No, I mean as much as as much as I make fun of the Long Good Friday, it's clearly an epic. Yeah, it's clearly an epic. It's clearly made by masterful storytellers. I just didn't think it wasn't the most riveting story for me, but it was still interesting and it still grabbed me in many, many ways. So I can't say that like that movie was that was a lame movie? What the hell would that like? It's got one of the greatest actors of all time starring in it, It's got one of the best directors, one of the best cinematographers in the world working on it. And in the ending that film, the final five minutes is masterful.

17:19 Once you find out who was involved with it and the overall just design of it. In regards to the debuts that are included it from the cast, it makes a lot of sense. And also it became a cult film. Well, my problem is it was a little too British for me. Yeah, No, and that's not what I mean is I felt like there were moments where I was like, you know, I don't think I would be as bored. Yeah, if I knew Britain. Yeah. Well, And also we had that one guy comment that said at the time it made a lot of sense with British history of the events. That because it was timely too. So I think that's why it has staying power though, is because it's very good. And I know we like probably less than five percent of the films we talk about on this show our first time watches. For me, yeah, so that but when whenever we do a first time watch, there's that chance that I'm not gonna like it very much, I take that chance, which which which almost negates the entire purpose of due even movie, which is that we we only speak with enthusiasm. We're not here to tear apart a movie and crap on it. We're here to celebrate it.

It's one of those films that there have been a few here and there were all kick myself when I watch it because I'm like, man, that would have been so good in the theater. Who was it, cup Web? Yeah? That one was hard to catch. Though Cuckoo is in every theater, it seems Cuckoo is a Neon release. The trailers made it look very artsy and very A twenty four. I don't even think I remember a trailer. I remember see. I know I saw a trailer, but all the weird.

No, I only watched oh so Wela we saw three times at. Least, probably because it was give use long legs maybe. I mean, it was like a very intense one. The big thing is it. Kept showing a heartbeat, like and then we get quiet, and then there was like the girl riding her bicycle and the hand comes for her and stuff. There's a woman behind her chasing her. You remember that, well, you do look at your phone the whole time, the whole time. I have to call your attention to trailers sometimes too. Yeah, but I don't care about trailer. How you don't I actually do? Yeah? And yet So my point is, my friends, Cuckoo looks like it's going to be this A twenty four hyper artsy horror film, which there's nothing wrong with that, not at all, not at all, but it simply isn't that. It is a creepy, atmospheric, stodgy horror film, and the third.

With what we're talking about tonight. Damn No, Actually, he was a good guy in uh, the last Godzilla movie? He was. The other thing is like the moment that it's fully revealed to not only you, but to the main character that Dan Stevens is a bad guy. Yeah, the moment that it happens and he just kind of is like, I'm German and I did a bad thing. It was the moment I was like, I never will trust a German, Like never. They are the villains of the world.

I had to take Rachel to see it. Yeah, because I knew she would love it. Because this won't spoil anything. But there's a sci fi element and it's not like it's not some cop out where it's like, oh, the aliot showed up. It's not like that. But there's elements of science. This is why I said, like it's explaining very well, yeah, because there are scientists and doctors and things, and you get to get to understand what's going on. I really loved it. I mean shoot, when you go see it. If I'm not busy, I'm gonna go with you. Yeah. So, but Cuckoo, guys, I really don't want you guys to sleep on it because Cucko I adored it. Yeah, that's good.

Cob Web is currently on Hulu right now if you have that service. I Cobweb in the third act changed everything that I was feeling about that movie into an instant. I have to fucking own this. Unfortunately, we would have had to drive about twenty minutes to go see Cobweb. Wasn't it was? It was it at the Green. No, it was it was like I think it was at Hubert. Oh Hubert. Okay, So it was not at our local cineplace. It would have been so much fun. It was. It was nearby, but so we would have had to go see it. But if I'm going to do a competition of best horror film in the theater, then that's between like Maxine Long Legs. That's between the horror like the ones that I really think are horror in the theater. So I'm not going to compare Trap to Long Legs. I'm not going to compare Trap to Maxine.

He finds him in his office and he's trying to put out fires all throughout the hotel.

So we see Larry Peach go to work because he's trying to track down his mother, who he finds in the bar. He walks up to the woman and starts basically, he smooths the situation.

Well, this is going on. Clifford and his grandma are upstairs, and we find out that tomorrow is Clifford's first day of school at a new school. And I'm sure it'll go swim. It'll go great. Because that's when Larry decides to also join them. He tells his mom that like, you know, hey, you gotta behave yourself, like, how would you like to move out of the hotel, because that's what's gonna keep happening if these mishaps keep happening. Yeah, sounds fun. So that's when Clifford is talking to his dad and he's like, you know, you're gonna enjoy your first day of school, and that's when he also reminds him that, you know, for try try to God's sakes, mom, act.

He gets a schedule, finds his first class, and then that's when he finds a seat next to a kid named Carson, and Carson warns him about the desk and the book on the desk, basically saying that they could carry some kind of section. No, well, he says the bookers. He's like, but the real problem, what I really don't like is the using chewing gum chewing. The ones that are still wet can carry hepatitis.

1:02:12 And that's when Carson also notices that Moody has entered the class, and that's when we meet Matt Dylan played by Matt Dylan who plays Moody in the film, and he is the bully of the school and he puts his targets right on to Clifford immediately because Clifford stole his seat next to Shelley, who he may or may not be dating, even though he treats her like shit. Uh I think if I had to guess, yeah, I think you want to sit next to her to teaser. Oh yeah, whether it was because he actually liked her or just to be a dick. And Shelley also played by a debut of Joan Cusack, and boy. Was she an awkward child. Thank goodness, she became a totally normal woman. I actually love Joan Cusack. I think she's a great actress. So the teacher calls attendance and that's when she calls for Ricky Linderman and his name is called there's no sign of him. The kids kind of whisper for a little bit, and she's like, you know, has anybody's seen him?

1:03:00 And they go past him. That's when Carson Or that's when Clifford asked Carson who Linderman is, and that's when he says he's a local legend and a mass murderer. Well, I mean they go hand in hand. So she calls Clifford's name and that's when Cliffor puts his hand up. And that's when Moody finds out his last name is Peach, and he calls him or says that he knew he was a fruit the whole time. So the class starts laughing, and that's when we find out that Moody's name is Melvin. You know, but he doesn't like to go by He hats to go by Big M which which then our hero immediately points out, oh like BM for sure. Which is a poop jokes, a poop joke indeed. And that's when Moody basically tells them that they're going to have a little discussion after class.

So the next class, Carson tells Clifford how Moody basically runs the runs of school. He's like, you know, you you mess with the wrong kid, like he is the one that you know, takes it from everybody. He go, we pay him protection even though it's protection from him. I mean, it's a very common, very podology. Yeah. So I mean, he basically gives him the rundown and he's like, you know, you shouldn't stand enough to him, And Clifford tells Carson that he shouldn't put up with that, and Carson basically says, oh, you know, I wouldn't, but I you know, I'm addicted to breathing. There's so many great lines from that, there really are. Yeah. So after class, Clifford sees Moody across the hall, so he darts the other direction and he finds we find him hiding in the library when Roberto drives upside outside honks the horn for him, so Clifford goes to run, but is immediately pulled into the bathroom by Moody's.

Like what happened your last school? He's like, well, I went to south Side Academy. And that's when you had the question, you know, why did he go from a private academy to a public academy? Yeah, and I guess the answers while they just moved. But why wouldn't he go to another private school? I don't know why. It's like, it's like, you know what, you need son to go to public school where they're just drooling to get their hands on hand And it's not It doesn't help that he's a goddamn pip squeak. Yeah, that's also true. We didn't mention, but he's compared to his fellow students, he's quite a bit shorter. Yeah, and he's much shorter than the bullies. Honestly, when I was first watching it, I had trouble identifying him as the same age as them. Yeah, because he seems much younger in his well, the way he looks, he talks shit like an adult. But you know, so the question if he's rich.

For just one dollar a day, you can feed this young man. So Moody tries to intimidate him by throwing up wads of a wet paper towel. And one thing that is that you even pointed out like he's a sociopath, because Clifford gets he thrown right at his head and does not move. So what they've done is they've taken toilet paper, soaked it with water, packed it tight like a snowball, and they're hawking it at his face. But they're not like at him. They're hawking it near his head. Yeah, and when it hits the wall, it makes an incredibly loud splat. Yeah, and it's got some weight to it because the toilet paper is wet. We used to do this in school.

1:06:24 And yeah, every time it hits right next to his head, he just doesn't don't flinch, doesn't blink. And based on the rest of the movie too, I'm not gonna say he's a full blown sociopath, but he's got some issues. Some of his attitudes toward physical violence are a little question. A little questionable. So Moody tries to intimidate him even more, and he goes to the toilet, grabs a cup of water, and he tells him to drink it. That's when he decides to throw the cup right back at Moody. So now Clifford takes off running. He goes into an auditorium and is safe for like about three seconds for the guy's enter, So then he runs. They chase after him again. He gets outside to Roberto gets in the car and they off his Moody makes fun of him, so he gets away this time just barely, just barely by the skin of his teeth. So back in the Ambassador East.

No, I didn't, Griffith Griff's name, and he is making a call and basically following everybody through the kitchen. Clifford is back of the kitchen having a little bit of a bite, and we see Roberto sitting with him. And later that night, Clifford, Grandma, Peach, and Larry are all on the roof as they're looking through Clifford's telescope. And they are, as he puts it later, looking at other heavenly bodies, heavenly bodies and teeth. They are, of course, being in a major city, there are tall buildings all around, so they are looking through windows and in general, why would you think to close your window when you're that high up twenty thirty forty fifty stories high up? Who's gonna see us? And in the words of the immortal Charlie and Emilio and Sleepway Camp too, the patrol that too. Yes, I'm a nerd.

He's like really, and he's like, I'm sorry, this job just messes me up. And he's like, but I'm older, I need this morning. I'm older, I need this morning. But also he's scored a Grandma Peach because once again something happened in the bar earlier, of course, so that's when also it's brought up that, you know, you ask his son how the school was, and he's like, you know, I. Heard had some you had some troubles from Roberto. And that's when Grandma says that his dad called the school, which is totally gonna go, well. Well, thank goodness, there's no rhyme about what happens to snitches involving stitches or ditches and the good yes, because there was, I would be worried.

So the next morning we see Moody and Clifford at the principal's desk as the principal tells Moody that, you know, he's on thin ice like this is. So on the walk back to class, Moody tells Clifford he better grow eyes in the back of his head. So Clifford knows that he's fucked now because the word has gotten out that the principal has been called and now everybody knows that he he snitched. Shit. Do stitches end up in ditches? They may get stitches or end up in ditches. Shit.

1:09:32 So back in class, Ricky Linderman makes his appearance and joins the class. Everyone is silent and the teacher tells him to find a seat. As we're watching Carson, just pray that Ricky does not sit behind him. As we watch Ricky sit right behind. Carson, Yeah yeah, it's pretty dope. So Ricky ends up sitting right behind him. We see a gym class later where Clifford is facing off against Moody with shirts and skins on the team, and that's when Moody throws an elbow, putting Clifford to the ground, telling him, you know, hey, say some of that aggression for the class. You know, we got it way more more time after class. Yeh. Later in the locker room, Clifford is found goes to his lockered and is full of garbage. Disgusting. Yeah, no, it's like food trash and a pantrash. And what was your power move at this point?

Yeah, I love that too, because when he peeks his head up after he's hearing them talking and everything, when he peeks his up, they're both standing at the door looking right right. They knew he was right at it, which is like, by the way, yeah, like the worst case scenario of what you're hoping doesn't happen, Yeah, is exactly what happens. What is happening.

But quickly he loses his traind of thought as Ricky stands up in the farthest wall smoking a cigarette which he tosses into the toilet. And that's when Moody leaves and Ricky follows behind him, and then Clifford follows behind him, and. We get a good look at Ricky played by Adam Baldwin. He is tall, very very tall for his age. Yeah, and he looks disheveled and kind of devil may care attitude, just does not give a damn. But they are afraid of him. He's definitely the biggest kid in the school. He is the local legend for a reason. Yeah, yeah, Well, we'll find out the reasons. So Clifford follows him, asking him if he wants to make some money and Moody and Ricky asked what he's talking about. He says, I want to buy your protection.

Back at the Ambassador East we meet, we find Grandma Peach in the kitchen and she brings out a play to Liver to both Larry and Clifford as they're get ready for breakfast. And that's when she informs Larry also the chief operations head is coming to visit is what. Uh? I forgot his name again? Damn it, Griffith, Griffith, I keep wanting to say, Derek, I don't. Know why, I have no idea what. Yeah, Griffith informs him that, you know, the Chief Operations head is gonna be stopping by because Griffith may or may not have called him because he sees all the stuff going on Grandma Peach and he's trying to get Larry in trouble.

I was bullied on the school bus like crazy by these two kids, one who now is a registered sex offender. That's terrifying. Hang up the phone. Not even ten minutes later, my dog is barking and this guy is in my fucking driveway.

Like he wasn't mad, Like he was, yeah, he understands, but he also said fuck those people.

We were at that same house, and that house was huge. I mean, he was in construction, he had a lot of he had a lot of great money, and we were down bad money. We were downstairs and we decided to somebody had brought over like UFC boxing gloves or whatever the boxing Association was.

They like, don't really know where Ricky hangs out. They say he might be at the slaughterhouse, but they're probably just gonna be better off catch him at school. So later we find Clifford at the school swimming, which is a swimming pool in the school.

Yeah, So he decides that he's done swimming. He goes into the locker room. He sees Moody shaking down another kid, but Moody taste and waste no time at all noticing Clifford with his goon, and that's when they shove him into a locker and walk away. Yeah, it's honestly a really sad moment, but it also makes it really seem clear why Ricky is gonna take pity on this kid. Because now Ricky's standing there and this locker is kids pounding away because taking. As wanting to be let out, begging to be let out. And when he opens the door, his reactions, he assumes Ricky's just gonna bully him more.

1:30:07 Yeah, and he calls him a you dumb son of a bitch, like, you know, take your turn, and Ricky just looks at him for a second and then smiles. Well, he smiles because he's amused by because it's that thing where it's like his anger is misplaced. Yeah, so you just kind of laughed. You're like, it's kind of funny you call me that. I know you're not actually I'm not actually doing anything to you. You're not actually mad at me, you know kind of thing. Do you Even? Movie? Will be right back, welcome back to do You Even? Movie. So the next day, at the local hangout, Clifford comes in.

1:30:47 He sees Moody and his goon's there, and he wastes no time dousing them in condiments and milkshakes. Yeah, he just lets them have it. And he quickly runs out. Clifford of course, runs across the street with Moody and his gang around him. They surround him, and then that's when Clifford introduces him to his bodyguard, Ricky. Yes, who he's agreed to pay yes to be his bodyguard. All the kids start insulting Moody as he watches his group dissolved because Moody's like, you know, well, are used to with me. One goon goes, are used to with me? Another goon goes, Yeah, they don't want any of Ricky. No, none of them do. So Clifford tells Moody his services are no longer needed from him, and that's when Carson takes the advantage to walk up to him and say he owes him a years of lunch money and flips him off. Which I my immediate response was, Hey, he's not that kid's bodyguard. No, why is that kid so brave?

1:31:31 And that's a good point at this point, because I think Clifford is a great character, but he is hard to like at times at first. Yes, no, No, he grows as a kid too. And that's the point of My Bodyguard, in my opinion, is that tough kids and kids with bad reputations, they're just kids. Yeah, And that's why what made me really like this movie a lot. Yeah, is that so, and that's where we're gonna go from here, because in reality, Ricky's not doing it for money. No, that's the thing. When you show me the theatrical trailer, it seemed like he was doing information. No, he just did it because he's tired of bullies. Yeah, and because he sees something in Clifford. Something we're about to find out. Yeah, a lot about pretty quickly.

1:32:17 So the kids celebrate. Clifford and Moody walk down the street as Clifford states how no one's gonna mess with anymore. Ricky is quick to tell him that they aren't a team, and he walks down the alley away from him. So the next day, Clifford goes to Miss Jump, which is a teacher, and he asked her, you know what's what's the Is the rumor true about Ricky and the murder? And she's like, well, I don't really know anything about those rumors, but I do know this in particular, and tells him about a year ago, Ricky's younger brother was found with their father's gun. He was playing. He'd found their father's gun and was playing with it. The gun went off, and Ricky was the first to find the body. Yeah, and that is the beginning of the film's kind of turn yea from being a you know, passive, silly comedy about kids to being something about the fact that that kids have real problem.

1:33:00 They absolutely do, and this is not the only this is the only story that she knows. Later in the cafeteria, Clifford finds Ricky sitting alone. He sits down with him, and he tries to explain himself again to Ricky doesn't want to hear about it. He walks out in the hallway, lights a cigarette, and then leaves the school, so Clifford catches up to him later, telling him or next to Roberto is being made to follow Ricky as Clifford sitting next to him, and that's when they get into a little bit of traffic jam. So Clifford gets out of the car and starts to follow Ricky. But that's after they've entered the rough part of town. Yes, and that's worth even says. Roberto's like, I don't like this part. Roberto, who what a name for that guy? Yeah, he's like the whitest guy ever. Yeah, But Roberto says, like the police don't even come around here at night. Yeah, So that's when Ricky decides, or that's when a Cliffor decides he's gonna follow Ricky. So he goes through the rough sides of Chicago, following Ricky all around until Ricky pulls him aside and he's like, you know, why are you following me? And he's like, you know, hey man, like I know, like it's hard up there, like you know, we can still be friends. I even know what happened to your brother? And he's like do yeah, and he walks away. And that's when Clifford is like, hey, I don't know where I am. I don't know how to get home.

1:34:01 It's a really cute thing because he like walks away and he goes, hey, I don't know or he's like, hey where am I am? I? Yeah? How do I get out of here? Yeah? And then he just has this grin. Oh it's great. Ricky turns around and he goes, come on, and that's. The breaking moment. You know, that's a really brilliant moment where where Ricky just kind of goes like, yeah, why would you know, yeah this area because he's from the rough part of town. Yeah, And it's very clear from just looking at them that Clifford is from at least a little more money. Yeah, I mean, and so's their their bully. Yeah, looks like he's from very very good background, lots of money. But he's not wearing the shirt that says jock. Now that's so weird. The Mardy kid wears a shirt that says or a sweater that says Jock.

1:34:45 So Ricky brings Slifford to a garage where he shows him that he's working on this motorcycle. At least he's trying to. He's been fixing it up for a year and he cannot get it to start because they the cylinder's bad and they don't make him anymore, so he has to hunt one down. Yeah. The only piece he wasn't able to find for the entire bike, yeah, is one cylinder. Because he built it from scratch. Basically, he repaired it, he restored. Built it, rebuilt it. That's one of the line and that we said he built. This, built it. And that's when he also has Clifford get on it and try it out, and that's when you just kind of see them them kind of bond even more. They're totally bonding. Yeah, it's really sweet. So we next see Ricky and Clifford going around the city. They're going from junk yard to junkyard on the cylinder. Yeah, and they're talking. We learned that Clifford's mom died in a car acton a few years back, and that his grandma is staying with them right now because people know that she's a wild one. She's been noticed by having some care. That's why the dad's looking after her right now.

1:35:34 And he also says, like, you know, yeh, he makes a really beautiful comment because he's like, you know, they they say that like she's she's acting like a kid so much because you know, she's losing it. I think she's acting like a kid so much because she doesn't want to give up the time of happiness. Well, what he said was, they think she's acting like a kid because she's afraid to die. Afraid to die. I think she's afraid to not live, which is a really and the only sorry to correct you is just, uh, that clicked with me really well, so I just really remembered it. Yeah, and I just saw it. Yeah, absolutely, So you know, that's when Ricky opens up to him that he says, you know that his brother was a good kid. He was a real handful, you know, he was nine, taking care of him since he was two, and you know he misses him. So we just we just see them sharing stories about both their live and getting closer together. And that's when they also discover the cylinder that they need.

1:36:22 Yeah, they find it, and the motorcycles up and running, and now we get the most wholesome part. Yeah, as they are riding around taking turns riding the dirt bike. And my favorite shot, which is in the trailer we showed it in the cover of the movie, is but it's the tall it's the tall Ricky on the back of the bike. Yeah, and the little pip squeak Cliff is driving driving it. Yep. I love that. I love that. It's very feel good and did we mention uh, I don't know if we overlooked it. But Ricky when he talks about what has dad works at the hotel, he says, my dad watches TV. Yeah, my dad watch TV. Yeah. Yeah, that's so. At the hotel, the chief inspector has arrived and he finds Grahama on the bar and they start talking on the roof. Though Ricky is being shown by Clifford, including the telescope which points out the heavenly Bodies again.

1:37:08 Yes, and we just see a woman in like very not scamped underwear. So we find Larry back in the hotel checking out a guest whom has clearly hit something off with, Like is he's checking her out and literally checking her out of the hotel, and they are talking about their experiences. She even calls him peachey. Yeah, this woman is definitely like him. What Mal is laying. I think they had since he has the room key. I think since he already. Had the room, he fixed her air condition. Yeah, yeah you did, Yeah he did. He put a little free on in there, if you know what I mean. I love mol in this movie. He's just he's so such a good dad, but also so fun to just watch the adventures of Well. And this is like right before he kind of became very I don't know, he's still kind of young looking. Yeah, he's kind of smelt and he's kind of he's still very handsome. Yeah, later on in his career became much more like that older guy. Yeah, you know, the teacher, the uncle, but here much like in Mister Mom. Yeah, he's still kind of handsome and young.

1:38:07 Well, and he shines right here because that's when Clifford tries to introduce him to Ricky, but he gets a call about Grandma, so he races off, and that's when we see the Chief Inspector is like almost passed out in a chair, like he's being fanned by her. But it turns out that it's because they were dancing. They were having a hoot, and he's fine. He's mad that everybody's worried about him. He's like, I'm just tired well, and. Griffith is like, do you know who this is? Like he's trying to make a scene of it. The second time he said you know who this is too? Yeah, And that's when Larry takes a moment to pull Griffith's side and he's like, you know, hey, man, you know this is you know this can happen to anybody. But you know what, why don't. You go check into another hotel. We can handle it from here. You're fire fires his ass, fires his ass. So that's when Larry quickly finds out that you know what he's been doing, so that's when he lets him go.

1:38:50 He's also told by the Chief Inspector that he's doing a great job as him and Grandma Peach walk off for another dance. Oh, he's going to take and he's going to the room to sleep for an hour. Yes, and then he has to come right back down. Because that's when Ricky and Clifford and Grandma Peach all have a nice dinner in the hotel area. And that's when she also reads his palm and she's stating that he's very intellectual, and Clifford's like, I don't know if that's true or future life. But that's when she also or that's when Clifford notices that Ricky has a scar right on his wrist. It's very clear it's the self arms self farm suicide, very likely, so he clinches his fists really quick. And that's when Grandma has a really sweet moment because she tells him not to worry. He's among friends, everything's okay, and she adds that she sees a long lifeline for him. And I think that that's a little harsh, because all he's doing is saying, oh way, witch, I do not wish my palm to be read. I do not wish such heinous act upon me. Apostasy of the church.

1:39:42 And now we get to the scene where Matt Dillon shows what a schmuck he is as the. Next day, I think that's kind. Clifford, Ricky and Carson and the other kids from the school are out at the park when Moody comes over, introducing his bodyguard. Mike, and Mike is like, I would guess twenty twenty two. He's huge, he's a bodybuilder, muscly. Yeah, and he's literally went off and found an even bigger guy to be his bodyguard. And it appears ironically to what we were saying about, well, although you were actually a bully apparently thanks. Uh. He also apparently has told him like, so you uh you like to kill kids? Huh? Yeah, like to rape old rainy women. Yeah, And apparently this guy has been built up that that Ricky is some serious DeLine. Moody fed Mike a lot of shit. But the funniest part is Moody's like, yeah, he's right there. And meanwhile, Ricky is literally sitting with a group of nerdy kids and they're all laughing and having fun. So he's clearly not some drooling, foaming mouth bully.

1:40:42 No, and Mike immediately starts in on Ricky, even bringing up his brother as Clifford tries to state, you know, that's bullshit. What happens, he says, you killed your brother. Yeah. So Mike begins to intimidate him, throwing him around, and Ricky just doesn't fight back. Ricky is even trying to leave. He goes to start his bike, and that's when Mike comes over and he's like, oh, nice bike and just starts beating the. Out of off of it. Yeah, and then and then eventually just leaves him bloody on the ground. Leaves him bloody on the ground, and that's when you know, they start doing even more damage to his bike with Moody and his gang join in. They even deliver a couple blows to Ricky, but not before Moody decides to chuck Ricky's bike right into the pond. Yes, and this scene really like broke my heart because he's he Ricky's opened up so much and he's even starting to have friends.

1:41:24 Yeah, I mean he was with all the kids. Yeah, and now this is happening. They've thrown his bike in the water, he's gotten his ass, whoof he's humiliated, and the whole time, the oldest bully is just like I thought you said he was tough. I thought you said he was tough, And all I'm thinking is like, you gotta be a real piece of shit. Not to wonder why someone's not fighting back. Yea, literally. The best, the way, the most. I'm not saying this is advice, but no, if somebody starts like, punches you and you don't punch back, it's usually clear that you're attempting to de escalate. Yeah, because if they punch you, when you punch them back, even if the fight doesn't make sense, it's gonna get it's gonna get worse. So it's just it's really fucked. Yeah, and Ricky of course feels hurt.

1:42:10 He's humiliated. He doesn't know what to do with this. Well, and Clifford doesn't help, like why didn't you fight back? Which it's like because he isn't he is he doesn't want to be a bully himself. He doesn't want to be violent, he doesn't want to be punching kids and stuff. And it goes back into Baldwin's performance. Adam Baldwin's performance in this he's so good because he's so believable and in every aspect that the super subtle. Yeah, it's kind of like have you seen Stir Crazy with Gene Wilder, Richard Pryor. Uh no, you. Remember Dynamo from The Running Man, the opera singer of course. Okay, he plays a guy in the Sir Crazy, the movie where they get set to prison for wrongful reason. He plays Grosberger, and Grosberger is the feared inmate of the prison.

1:42:56 And then at one point he actually sings because he was a really good singer in real life. Oh okay, there's one point where they kind of break him because they put him in a cell hoping to intimidate him, and they all become friends. That's pretty such a good movie. So Ricky goes running away from him. He runs off away from Clifford to the park and Clifford goes to look for Ricky, but he's not fighting him. He checks the garage, he checks his own home and doesn't find him. And that's when Clifford returns to the hotel where Ricky is waiting for him on the. Roof, and uh yeah, he basically just asks Clifford give me money for money. He's like some money, yeah, and he's like, I have six dollars. He takes it from him. Then would really hit me it is why it like really hit me. He just says, you're a good kid. You're a good kid, and then he leaves. He goes off the fire escape, and of course Clifford is not leaving this, so he goes to follow him.

1:43:38 They get to a bridge and that's when Ricky is, you know, telling him to go home, and Clifford questions why he can't fight, asking if it's because of his brother, and he's like, you know, shut up. He's like, you know, well, hey man, you know it's it's not your fault, like, you know, you didn't do anything. And he's like, I killed my brother. And Ricky then confesses that he killed him. He didn't mean to, he didn't find him. He was the one playing with the gun with it. They were home, Yeah, they were home playing with it. His brother wanted to hold it and he's like, you're not old enough, and that's when he reached for it, accidentally shooting him. Ricky couldn't take it, and so that's when he actually even looked at his brother and said that he unfortunately was laughing when it happened because. He was just so shocked, shot him head shot him in the head. He watched the blood come out. So that's when he decided that, you know, he had to take the fall for this, but he wasn't going to, so he put the gun in his brother's hand and told everyone that he found him that way. Yeah, and he confesses that's the first time he's ever said that to anybody. He's never told anyone that before. And Clifford tries to tell him once again that it wasn't his fault.

1:44:29 Ricky states, he knows that, and he knows that he means well, but he's let everyone down and in some way he's going to do the same. Right before he boards the subway and rides off as Clifford watches him race down the. Track, My heart, yeah, is so broken. So the next day, Shelley catches up with Clifford and Carson, who are saying, you know, things are worse than ever. They're walking past the park and that's when Carson says, hey, isn't that Ricky, And that's when they noticed that he's removing his bike from the lagoon. Clifford catches up to him, and Moody across the way notices this waste no time and goes over to Ricky and clif and he thanks him, stops him on the bike and says thanks for getting for him. See's Ricky isn't backing down, so he goes, oh, Mike, do. You even movie? Will be right back, welcome back to do you even movie?

1:45:24 Yeah, and there's Mike and here comes Mike again, right back where it. Mike's ready to throw down. Yeah, I know, he's a real piece of shit. So he's ready to throw down. And Mike warns him in you know, three seconds that he's got to leave. But he's got to leave the bike because it's no longer his Ricky doesn't budge. Mike starts counting down. He gets all the way down to a zero, and that's when Ricky gets up, telling him to take it. But then he throws a punch right into Mike's fucking jaw. Yeah, and they have the most realistic movie fight ever. It is a brawl. They are punching and wrestling and punching and wrestling. Yeah, And at first Mike gets the upper hand, yeah, but Ricky ends up whooping his ass and but then fucking and Moody tries to like and that's when Clifford's like no, because Moody is literally like holding his arms so that Mike can punch him, which Mike's strong like that if he's punching Ricky's head without Ricky being able to protect himself, he can kill him.

1:46:15 So now as Ricky is dispatching Mike, we have a very fun fight between Clifford and Moody. Fund's fun to the word I would use, Clifford is choking Moody the fuck out. Well, that's to start. When they get back up, they start like just boxing at each other. And the reason I say it's fun is because you're surprised at how it's going. You don't understand, Like it's hard to understand who's how how Clifford could ever win. But Clifford slowly starts believing in himself and he gets yeah and and and Ricky seeing him protect himself makes him happy. And that's kind of my point is like this is kind of like the end of the arc of Clifford. That's why it's exciting because as he whoops his own bully, Ricky gives him the best advice. He says, go for his nose, So he hits his nose a couple of times.

1:47:07 He goes do one more time. When he hits him, he falls around. He's like, you broke my nose. Broke my nose, and I because I was bullied so much. Nothing is more satisfying in the world to be David. Then that bully going oh this is awful. This really hurts. It's like, yeah, you think stupid, Yeah yeah, yeah, it hurts. It hurts when you do it. It hurts when it's done to you. So we also mentioned that Ricky knocks Mike the fuck out by the way. Oh yeah, he puts him down, and. That's why he coaches. He coaches Clifford. Clifford gets a shot in breaking his nose, he gets Moody, starts whining, and gets made fun of as he goes back to his friends. We watched Carson, Clifford, Moody, and Shelley all leave the part together and Ricky and Clifford are going back and forth basically mocking each other. From the first time that Clifford asked him to be the bodyguard.

1:47:48 Yeah, he basically they reversed the order. Yeah. So so Ricky goes, hey, would you be my bodyguard? I'll pay you fifty cents to do your homework and stuff, and I can do your homework. I'm smart and stuff, and that, my friends is nineteen. My body as the positive music swells, and I will say, I think that this is a kid's movie, okay, And I know that it feels a little rough for a kid's movie, probably because but this isn't after school special. That's why it's not that hefty, Like the whole risk that his father's going to lose the hotel because of the whatever, it's barely intense. It just kind of happens. You laugh at it. It's really about seeing a slice of life that hopefully young people can identify with, so they can see, like, hey, maybe that weird kid that everybody's afraid over, everybody thinks is stupid or as bad or whatever, he's probably not what you think.

1:48:41 Well, and they paint a beautiful possibility of like several storylines that could happen, because it's like they could have to leave the hotel and then now they're basically homeless and jobless. Yeah, grayma Peach could have died, but I thought for gonna die. None of that happens. No, No, this is the central focus is these three, these three guys figuring shit out Babs. They keep everything light and let Ricky's darkness be the darkest part of the film. Yeah, and for that I can appreciate what they did. It's also this is nineteen eighty, this is the end of the seventies. Yeah, we hadn't had like stand by Me yet and stuff. So most stuff that was meant to be consumed by younger people was simple because they wanted they didn't want to overshoot their heads. Yeah. So I loved it.

He's a fucking menace. Now. He was a greater or two ahead of me, so I'm not going to pretend like And then I befriended him, and I thought I didn't but I didn't really even know him.

A miserable, fat teenager secretly has a crush on a class beauty ends up becoming the surprising participant to a dance with her at a high school dance, meaning he's got to get his act together with the help of his best friend. Angus is one that's got to be hard to track down, but it is absolutely worth it.

My first one is straight up The Karate Kid. Yeah, I was actually about that one too. Because that's a movie that really moved me, because that's a film about I'm not about to cry. I didn't min if I was. That's a film about how powerful it is to stand up for yourself and how but more so, how powerful it is as a child to have an adult take interest in you. Absolutely, and I was somebody who I had a great mother, but you just no one is an island. And the biggest change in my entire life was when an adult outside of my family took interest in me. It changed my entire life. Literally, I became a filmmaker, just like the adult who took interest in me. And so I think that's really important.

I think that Harrie at the Spy is and the reason I'm picking it is not just as a kid's movie and stuff, but Harriet the Spy is entirely about people are not just what they look like and not just what you assume. Now I am getting emotions because I love Harriet the Spy. I watched it again and again and again as a kid. And I think that that's such an important lesson to teach young people because I've always said that little kid that kids are just tiny sociopathmal because they have to learn things to be able to understand that, like oh when I stub my tote, when somebody else dubs their tone, and it's just as much as what I do. You have to learn empathy. So I think Harriet the Spy has a really great message about accepting or not accepting, but like about observing people properly and not assuming things, and also about how keeping your distance is not safe.

It came out the same year as my movie Depression the movie, and they have very similar endings, like, like so similar that I looked it up to make sure that we both were making movie. We literally made them at the same time. So there's no way I was inspired and there's no way he was inspired by me.
