Little Giants (1994): Rick Moranis, Ed O’Neill and Devon Sawa

Little Giants (1994): Rick Moranis, Ed O’Neill and Devon Sawa

Henrique and David return to fictional Urbania, Ohio for Little Giants (1994), the underdog family comedy about two brothers, two peewee football teams and one town-sized sibling rivalry. Rick Moranis plays gentle gas-station owner Danny O’Shea, who forms the Giants after his daughter Becky—better known as Icebox—is rejected by the elite Cowboys coached by Danny’s celebrated older brother Kevin, played by Ed O’Neill. Their misfit roster gets one chance to prove it belongs. When the town can support only one official team, the brothers’ wager turns a youth-league dispute into a game about belonging, family expectations and civic pride.
The hosts celebrate Shawna Waldron’s funny, physical performance as Icebox and Devon Sawa’s Junior, whose friendship with Becky complicates her attempt to balance football and a crush. They revisit Spike’s third-person bravado, Johnny’s fear that his father will miss the game, the annexation-of-Puerto-Rico play and the Alka-Seltzer trick that makes the Giants foam like mad dogs. Beneath the slapstick, they find a warm story about inclusion, confidence, supportive parenting and learning that winning is not worth abandoning the people who need a team.
Both hosts grew up with the movie. Henrique remembers an early viewing while visiting his father in New Hampshire, followed by years of television reruns; David recalls it as a family staple his mother loved. Their nostalgia expands into appreciation for Janusz Kamiński’s cinematography, the deep young ensemble and the contrast between Moranis’ anxious kindness and O’Neill’s competitive swagger. They also correct the published title’s spellings in the prose: Ed O’Neill and Devon Sawa.
Production discussion explores the reported McDonald’s peewee-football commercial that caught Steven Spielberg’s attention, the screenplay’s links to Cool Runnings and Bushwhacked, and accounts that Brian Levant completed football material after director Duwayne Dunham was replaced. Henrique and David place Little Giants alongside The Little Rascals, Ladybugs and The Sandlot, movies that give young outsiders room to define themselves. The result is a detailed celebration of a 1990s sports comedy whose fart jokes, family tension and Icebox heroics still work together.

10
00:01:00.880 --> 00:01:11.640
Spoiler alert. Well, hello everybody, and welcome back to Do You

11
00:01:11.760 --> 00:01:15.560
Even? Movie? I am your
host, Enrique Kuto, here with my

12
00:01:15.640 --> 00:01:23.640
good buddy and co host Double d
Iron David Deny usually Iron before Mike.

13
00:01:26.359 --> 00:01:29.640
But I don't know stuff. I
guess it's gonna be Diamond Dave. That's

14
00:01:29.640 --> 00:01:32.560
like usually the usually that's the one. Right. As long as it's not

15
00:01:32.599 --> 00:01:37.799
Dustin Diamond Dave, we're good.
It pretty much is Dustin Diamond Dave I'm

16
00:01:37.840 --> 00:01:42.680
just being honest, okay, And
so speaking of honest for those watching us

17
00:01:42.719 --> 00:01:47.000
in visual form, I'm going to
comment on no, I am not ill.

18
00:01:47.959 --> 00:01:49.280
I mean I am the illess.
You are ill, but I am

19
00:01:49.319 --> 00:01:56.120
not ill. But the rosiness of
my face is thanks to spending ten days

20
00:01:56.159 --> 00:02:00.640
on a set in the dead of
winter and it being very sunny, and

21
00:02:00.959 --> 00:02:07.359
so I have literally because there was
snow and rain and then hot weather.

22
00:02:07.000 --> 00:02:10.800
Sometimes I was completely bundled up and
I always had to have a hat on.

23
00:02:12.319 --> 00:02:15.719
So I have a literal field workers
suntan like. It's just my cheeks

24
00:02:15.800 --> 00:02:21.919
and mouth. That's it. That's
it, and it's yeah, I I

25
00:02:22.560 --> 00:02:27.560
literal like field workers tan. And
I already told Dave if he made any

26
00:02:27.599 --> 00:02:31.759
comments about being me being Hispanic,
he'd be canceled. So he's he's leaving

27
00:02:31.759 --> 00:02:36.879
those behind. But that's not what
we're here to talk about. Is not

28
00:02:36.919 --> 00:02:39.599
because it's March. It's March.
We're moving into springtime. Yes, and

29
00:02:39.759 --> 00:02:46.039
March is often known for March madness, a time when a sport of some

30
00:02:46.159 --> 00:02:51.000
kindly does something. Is it basketball, Well, that's the time when people

31
00:02:51.039 --> 00:02:54.199
are excited to check out the gridiron
and find out who gets the puck into

32
00:02:54.240 --> 00:03:00.120
the goal. Give me your headway. You're trying, you know, you

33
00:03:00.120 --> 00:03:02.759
know you wouldn't know from looking at
me. But uh, as an indoor

34
00:03:02.840 --> 00:03:07.840
kid, did you, I mean
I was an indoor kid. Did you

35
00:03:07.840 --> 00:03:12.000
play sports at all, like at
all growing growing up, like with neighborhood

36
00:03:12.080 --> 00:03:15.000
kids or anything. Okay, you're
an indoor kid, all right, you're

37
00:03:15.000 --> 00:03:21.039
playing the crack cocaine dealer. I'm
just reminded. Did you ever have a

38
00:03:21.039 --> 00:03:23.280
honded house in your neighborhood? Do
you ever have a house you guys were

39
00:03:23.319 --> 00:03:28.159
all afraid to go to? Yeah
we did. Yeah, yeah, No,

40
00:03:28.240 --> 00:03:30.360
I mean like one where like people
died. Yes, yes, absolutely,

41
00:03:30.680 --> 00:03:35.719
yeah yeah yeah, growing up in
the hoods very different. But we're

42
00:03:35.759 --> 00:03:42.520
talking about the classic, uh deadly
serious sports film, Yes, of the

43
00:03:42.639 --> 00:03:46.879
Night of nineteen ninety four, Little
Giant, Little Giants. Indeed, a

44
00:03:46.919 --> 00:03:50.560
film that I have to admit I
always liked as a kid, even though

45
00:03:50.639 --> 00:03:54.120
I was not a sports kid.
Well, you spoil it. You just

46
00:03:54.240 --> 00:04:00.280
ruined the whole everybody, We'll see
you next time. Alert. That was

47
00:04:00.360 --> 00:04:02.000
just all we had had to bring
here. No, no, but we're

48
00:04:02.000 --> 00:04:06.680
gonna be talking about Little Giants tonight. A film that is a good bit

49
00:04:06.719 --> 00:04:11.199
of fun. Yeah, and wasn't
trying to reinvent the wheel, which is

50
00:04:11.199 --> 00:04:15.159
why Cisco and Ebert apparently had a
really like it problem with it. I

51
00:04:15.199 --> 00:04:16.560
do love when they tear apart kids. And he was like, what a

52
00:04:16.639 --> 00:04:20.879
trite cliche concept. It's like,
yeah, aimed at eleven year old Well,

53
00:04:20.920 --> 00:04:24.800
I remember. Do you remember the
Heckler documentary that Jamie Kennedy did,

54
00:04:25.920 --> 00:04:27.920
Yeah, vaguely. Yeah. Do
you remember the scene when they talked to

55
00:04:27.959 --> 00:04:30.759
John Lovetz about all the reviews that
came in from benchwarmers when he because he

56
00:04:30.839 --> 00:04:33.399
was like the main I think producer
on it or I know he's in it

57
00:04:33.399 --> 00:04:35.759
as well, and like he was
just like it was a kid's movie,

58
00:04:35.759 --> 00:04:39.879
and they like lamb basked it like
it was something along the lines of Citizen

59
00:04:39.959 --> 00:04:43.680
Kane that it wasn't. Well,
I mean they didn't lamb Bastitizen Kane,

60
00:04:43.680 --> 00:04:46.360
but I understand. I mean,
to this day, I've been I've been

61
00:04:46.439 --> 00:04:51.600
trying to find a high resolution image
of Uve Bowl punching a critic. Yeah,

62
00:04:51.680 --> 00:04:54.879
so I can hang it up in
my office. Yeah. So,

63
00:04:55.199 --> 00:04:58.920
uh, you mean the documentary you're
also in, Oh, Raging Bowl yeah,

64
00:04:58.959 --> 00:05:01.639
I do have a little kid and
raging bull. I get around,

65
00:05:01.680 --> 00:05:05.279
man, I get around. What
was the didn't I just watch something and

66
00:05:05.399 --> 00:05:10.000
I was in it? Uh you
were watching wrestling, you're watching wrestle man.

67
00:05:10.120 --> 00:05:15.040
Yeah, there's this. There was
this video on YouTube about like wildest

68
00:05:15.079 --> 00:05:18.439
moments in professional wrestling, and they
were talking about Rakishi freaking out on this

69
00:05:18.519 --> 00:05:21.759
guy and beating him with a chair
and and they said it was at Heartland

70
00:05:21.800 --> 00:05:24.720
Wrestling Association. I was like,
oh, I think I heard about that.

71
00:05:24.720 --> 00:05:25.920
And then when the show the clip, I was like, oh,

72
00:05:25.959 --> 00:05:27.920
I'm in the front row. Yeah, yeah you are. I was like

73
00:05:27.959 --> 00:05:31.240
sixteen years old. Uh yeah,
yeah, it was Uh that was the

74
00:05:31.399 --> 00:05:34.399
That's when you know you're getting old. You're in history now. Kids,

75
00:05:34.480 --> 00:05:40.560
that's fair. But speaking of history, yes, we have little giants to

76
00:05:40.600 --> 00:05:46.720
look forward to. And this is
a film that I most certainly know nothing

77
00:05:46.000 --> 00:05:49.639
nothing about the making of, or
why would I you know, I mean

78
00:05:49.720 --> 00:05:53.560
like I didn't until I put these
notes together. So it's fine. Well,

79
00:05:53.560 --> 00:05:57.000
now you're just being dismissive and hateful. You want me to start calling

80
00:05:57.040 --> 00:06:00.600
you Ebert or Ciskel. I mean, you're the tall oneswhere you're I do

81
00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:05.759
get hateful, Dave as it is
anyway salty day salty So Little Giants,

82
00:06:05.800 --> 00:06:09.959
Yeah, give us the beats.
The Little Giants is nineteen ninety four release

83
00:06:10.079 --> 00:06:13.800
date, an hour and forty seven
minutes long, rated PG four kids,

84
00:06:13.920 --> 00:06:18.879
rude language and pranks, pranks,
pranks. It's like I saw the TV

85
00:06:19.040 --> 00:06:24.639
rating for Twister and it says for
bad depictions of bad weather. Yes,

86
00:06:25.079 --> 00:06:28.959
woo. So the director of this
movie is Dwayne Durham, but he may

87
00:06:29.000 --> 00:06:30.639
not just be the only director on
it, which we'll get to towards the

88
00:06:30.720 --> 00:06:33.560
end of the episode we talk about
notes now. Is Dwayne Durham anything like

89
00:06:33.600 --> 00:06:36.040
Bull Durham? He is not.
He is not anything like Bull Durham.

90
00:06:36.040 --> 00:06:40.560
And I just watched the movie for
the first time last year. So Dwayne

91
00:06:40.600 --> 00:06:43.959
Durham has a pretty interesting career.
He starts in the editorial department in nineteen

92
00:06:44.000 --> 00:06:46.439
seventy seven with a film called Three
Warriors, works on American graffiti in nineteen

93
00:06:46.439 --> 00:06:49.680
seventy nine, is an editor on
The Black Stallion in seventy nine, editor

94
00:06:49.720 --> 00:06:54.480
on Empire Strikes Back nineteen eighty Raises
The Lost Arc eighty one, Dragon Slayer

95
00:06:54.480 --> 00:06:57.680
eighty one, The Mean Season eighty
five, where he becomes the main editor.

96
00:06:58.079 --> 00:07:01.399
He still remains main editor on Blue
Velvet in nineteen eighty six and then

97
00:07:01.920 --> 00:07:05.480
Cherry two thousand and eighty seven,
Throw Mama from the Train in nineteen eighty

98
00:07:05.480 --> 00:07:09.120
seven, as well Fright Night in
eighty eight, Bill and ted zexl Venture

99
00:07:09.160 --> 00:07:13.319
eighty eight, and then in his
directing career starts in nineteen ninety with twin

100
00:07:13.399 --> 00:07:15.920
Peaks Hey Buddy series eighty eight,
Fright Night two. Did I say that

101
00:07:16.040 --> 00:07:18.040
right now? You said Fright Night? Oh, Fright Night too? Yeah?

102
00:07:18.079 --> 00:07:20.759
It says too, it says too. There my apologies. I I

103
00:07:21.040 --> 00:07:29.079
yeah, but wow Takes series nineteen
ninety No David Shut Up, Wild at

104
00:07:29.079 --> 00:07:30.879
Heart, which he's also the editor
on in ninety Homeward Bound, The Incredible

105
00:07:30.959 --> 00:07:34.319
Journey in ninety three, directs Little
Giants in ninety four episodes of Seventh Heaven

106
00:07:34.319 --> 00:07:39.319
and ninety six Jag in ninety five. Then in nineteen eight ninety eight he

107
00:07:39.399 --> 00:07:43.839
delects directs a little film called Halloween
Town. I Love Halloween. I Love

108
00:07:43.879 --> 00:07:46.959
Halloween toown too, And this basically
makes a mistakefle of the Disney Channel because

109
00:07:46.000 --> 00:07:49.759
at that point, then in nineteen
ninety nine he does the thirteen year Uh

110
00:07:49.879 --> 00:07:54.040
Santa and Pete nineteen ninety nine as
well, double teamed in two thousand and

111
00:07:54.040 --> 00:07:56.879
two, Right on Track two thousand
and three, Star Wars Clone Wars in

112
00:07:56.879 --> 00:08:01.000
twenty ten, then in twenty seventeen
becomes the editor the Twin Peaks series,

113
00:08:01.040 --> 00:08:05.879
the Revision, and then he's also
to Revival Thank you, Oh guys,

114
00:08:05.920 --> 00:08:09.480
this is gonna be a great Dave
chooses the wrong words episode I can tell

115
00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:11.600
already and I'm the tired one.
Yeah, that's fair. And then he

116
00:08:11.680 --> 00:08:16.439
also was the editor on twenty twenty
is the Turning that movie with I remember

117
00:08:16.560 --> 00:08:20.680
the parting, Yeah, that was. That wasn't great. I didn't I

118
00:08:20.720 --> 00:08:22.399
didn't love it. It wasn't great. That's why it's not that's we're not

119
00:08:22.439 --> 00:08:26.959
doing an episode, why we're not
doing an episode on it. So wrapping

120
00:08:26.040 --> 00:08:30.480
up with doing Durham Is Turning in
twenty twenty, and then moving on to

121
00:08:30.560 --> 00:08:33.639
our writers. We have James Ferguson
who is credited for only the story and

122
00:08:33.679 --> 00:08:37.840
screenplay of Little Giants. That's his
career on IMDb. Only the story and

123
00:08:37.960 --> 00:08:41.480
screenplay. Yep, this is here
all of Well, no, I'm saying

124
00:08:41.480 --> 00:08:43.200
that's the only move. That's the
only one, that's the credit he has.

125
00:08:43.240 --> 00:08:46.080
Okay, So then we go to
Robert Shawcross. He was the writer

126
00:08:46.159 --> 00:08:50.799
on Little Giants in nineteen ninety four. Then he both writes and directs Bored

127
00:08:50.840 --> 00:08:54.240
Silly in two thousand and Uncle Nino
in two thousand and three. Our next

128
00:08:54.240 --> 00:08:56.799
writer is Tommy Swardlow. He does. He starts out as an actor in

129
00:08:56.879 --> 00:09:01.720
nineteen eighty four with The Wildlife Genius
in eighty five, Howard the Duck in

130
00:09:01.759 --> 00:09:05.320
eighty seven, Spaceballs in eighty seven, Hamburger Hill eighty seven, Child's Play

131
00:09:05.360 --> 00:09:07.799
eighty eight, Blueberry Hill in eighty
six. He becomes a writer in ninety

132
00:09:07.799 --> 00:09:11.679
three on Cool Runnings. All right, man goes to do Little Giants in

133
00:09:11.720 --> 00:09:18.080
ninety four, Bushwhacked in nineteen ninety
five, same director as bush Bushwhack.

134
00:09:18.159 --> 00:09:20.960
Oh writer, sorry, sorry,
but Bushwhacked. I love Bushwhack. Yeah.

135
00:09:22.240 --> 00:09:24.480
That Actually there's a lot of similar
gags, which there are the kids

136
00:09:24.480 --> 00:09:28.159
in Bushwhacked. So then snow Dogs
in two thousand and two, One thousand

137
00:09:28.240 --> 00:09:33.159
Junkies in twenty seventeen. Okay,
the Grinch, The Grinch twenty eighteen,

138
00:09:33.240 --> 00:09:37.799
the animated one, not the famous
animated one. The one that came out.

139
00:09:37.840 --> 00:09:39.279
I think God who voiced him,
I can't remember. I think it

140
00:09:39.399 --> 00:09:45.200
was benet At Cumberbatch. Bennett Cumberbatch
did the Grinch's voice. Yeah, oh,

141
00:09:45.600 --> 00:09:50.399
I was gonna guess Judge Reinhold what
but because I always guess Judge Ryndhole,

142
00:09:50.480 --> 00:09:52.440
that's fair. Then Pushing Boots The
Last Wish in twenty twenty two,

143
00:09:52.480 --> 00:09:56.960
and then our final writer is Michael
Goldberg, who also did Cool Runnings in

144
00:09:56.039 --> 00:10:01.000
ninety three, has screenplay on that
Little Giants screenplay in ninety four, bushwacks

145
00:10:01.879 --> 00:10:05.639
screenplay credit in ninety five, The
Love Master in nineteen ninety seven, which

146
00:10:05.720 --> 00:10:07.120
I really like that title, but
I've never seen that movie. You've never

147
00:10:07.159 --> 00:10:11.559
seen The Love Master. You've seen
Love Master? Yeah? For real?

148
00:10:11.799 --> 00:10:15.840
No? I think so okay,
Earth Final Conflict in two thousand and one,

149
00:10:15.919 --> 00:10:18.320
and then snow Dogs in two thousand
and two, and then wrapping us

150
00:10:18.399 --> 00:10:22.320
up on our behind the scenes people, our cinematographer Giannis Kiminski. You said

151
00:10:22.320 --> 00:10:26.480
it right, Yeah, I know
you do. Yeah, what'd you go

152
00:10:26.519 --> 00:10:33.799
to school? Ladies and Gentleman.
We had a complex name, but David

153
00:10:35.240 --> 00:10:39.320
he got through the name, and
uh, congratulations, So do you know

154
00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:46.320
why this fella is very special to
our show. In particular? Is it

155
00:10:46.919 --> 00:10:54.320
because he rode in so Yiannis Kimenski
starts as a gaffer on Not of This

156
00:10:54.360 --> 00:10:58.919
Earth in nineteen eighty eight, the
Jim Winorski film, which I have a

157
00:10:58.919 --> 00:11:01.320
poster of in my office, keeps
on the gaffer stage with Saturday the Fourteenth

158
00:11:01.360 --> 00:11:05.840
strikes back in nineteen eighty eight,
Strip to Kill Two Live Girls. In

159
00:11:05.879 --> 00:11:09.440
eighty nine, he was a gaffer
on Strip to Kill Two Live Growth.

160
00:11:09.639 --> 00:11:13.399
So that's he daffed on two films. I have posters hanging up in my

161
00:11:13.480 --> 00:11:16.399
house up gaffer of Dance of the
Damned in nineteen eighty nine. That's a

162
00:11:16.399 --> 00:11:20.399
good That's one of the best of
the Roger Korman stripper movies. He becomes

163
00:11:20.399 --> 00:11:24.080
the secondary DP on Lords of the
Deep in nineteen eighty nine, is the

164
00:11:24.159 --> 00:11:26.600
DP on After midnine and eighty nine
chief lighting director, the DP on After

165
00:11:26.639 --> 00:11:31.840
Midnight After mid or Oh no,
she'd be a second DP, second assistant.

166
00:11:31.039 --> 00:11:33.960
Okay, So, and you're talking
about that anthology. Yep. Actually

167
00:11:35.000 --> 00:11:37.559
really I caught that on late night
on like this TV or comment or something,

168
00:11:37.639 --> 00:11:43.200
Yeah, and really enjoyed it.
Chief Lighting DP on Watchers two in

169
00:11:43.320 --> 00:11:46.080
nineteen ninety. I love all of
the Watchers movies. Then he becomes cinematographer

170
00:11:46.120 --> 00:11:50.240
in nineteen ninety with a little film
called Grim Prairie Tales. I love that

171
00:11:50.360 --> 00:11:54.360
movie, and you don't I have? Didn't you sell your copy? It

172
00:11:54.399 --> 00:11:58.000
was a bootleg? But yeah or
actually no, I think I still have

173
00:11:58.080 --> 00:12:00.960
it because I like Grim Prairie too. It's got something. I mean,

174
00:12:01.000 --> 00:12:03.120
it's got some great moments of it. Terror Within two in nineteen ninety,

175
00:12:03.320 --> 00:12:09.639
Cool as Ice in nineteen ninety one, Wow, Killer Instinct in ninety one,

176
00:12:09.159 --> 00:12:13.679
Treble Bound in ninety three, that
frickin' Michael Madsen and Drew Barrymore movie

177
00:12:13.679 --> 00:12:18.600
we watched, Oh shit, yeah, okay, okay, The Ventures of

178
00:12:18.679 --> 00:12:20.480
Huck Finn, the one with Elijah
Wood in ninety ninety three, which was

179
00:12:20.519 --> 00:12:24.759
a classic staple of my childhood.
I could see that that that's supposed to

180
00:12:24.759 --> 00:12:28.399
be. That movie was everywhere.
It really was, Yeah, it really

181
00:12:28.440 --> 00:12:33.279
was. Then he does Shindler's List
in nineteen ninety three, What follows that

182
00:12:33.360 --> 00:12:39.960
with Little Giants in ninety four?
Hold On, Yeah, you go.

183
00:12:41.039 --> 00:12:46.639
From Grim Prairie Tales and Terror Within
two, Two Adventures of huck Finn to

184
00:12:46.919 --> 00:12:54.480
Schindler's List. Yeah, all yeah, one of these things is like the

185
00:12:54.559 --> 00:13:01.080
other. No that that's that's an
incredible reveal. Yeah. Oh just wait,

186
00:13:01.320 --> 00:13:03.960
I just I just would expect nothing
against this guy. He's clearly good.

187
00:13:05.120 --> 00:13:09.399
Yeah, but I would expect that
you that like you would have to

188
00:13:09.399 --> 00:13:11.399
do. I mean, I guess
made The Adventures of Huck Finn because it

189
00:13:11.440 --> 00:13:13.759
was such a big hit. Maybe
that made him a bigger name as a

190
00:13:13.759 --> 00:13:16.799
cinematographer. But I just would have
expected a Dean Kundy or somebody to do

191
00:13:16.879 --> 00:13:20.559
Shindler's List. Yeah. No,
someone who's you know, just always doing

192
00:13:20.600 --> 00:13:24.879
those big, big Hollywood flicks.
Yeah. So in ninety four, he

193
00:13:24.919 --> 00:13:28.360
finishes Little Giants, goes to Tall
Tale in nineteen ninety five, Jerry Maguire

194
00:13:28.480 --> 00:13:31.240
nineteen ninety six, Lost World,
Jurassic Park ninety seven, Amistad ninety seven,

195
00:13:31.279 --> 00:13:35.080
Saving Private Ryan ninety eight, AI
Artificial Intelligence two thousand and one,

196
00:13:35.360 --> 00:13:37.919
Minority Report two thousand and two,
Catch Me if you Can't two thousand and

197
00:13:37.960 --> 00:13:41.279
two, The Terminal Wore the World's
Munich, Indiana Jones and the Can of

198
00:13:41.279 --> 00:13:45.799
the Crystal Skull, and then Funny
People in two thousand and nine. This

199
00:13:46.000 --> 00:13:48.759
is the guy that you looked up
the first time. This is the guy.

200
00:13:50.759 --> 00:13:54.320
So for those who may not have
heard this story, Yeah, the

201
00:13:54.799 --> 00:14:01.600
entire reason that I taught sweet David
here that you always look up cinematographers yep,

202
00:14:01.840 --> 00:14:07.559
is because this is so ridiculous.
It is because one time I was

203
00:14:07.600 --> 00:14:11.480
curious who shot Uh wait, no, you said funny people. Oh wait,

204
00:14:11.559 --> 00:14:13.559
yeah, funny people. Oh wait
yea, so it's not forty,

205
00:14:13.600 --> 00:14:16.240
this is forty. My bad.
I fucked that up. Yep. So

206
00:14:16.279 --> 00:14:20.120
now we have a blue fer yep, yep. Ah damn. But I

207
00:14:20.159 --> 00:14:22.399
was totally excited. I was watching
this as forty, and I noticed that

208
00:14:22.440 --> 00:14:26.360
the way it's the peat is really
interesting. Yeah, and I was like,

209
00:14:26.399 --> 00:14:28.960
who did this? And I clicked
in his first credit or one of

210
00:14:28.960 --> 00:14:31.320
his first was Stripped to Kill two, and I was like, wow,

211
00:14:31.919 --> 00:14:33.480
So this is literally that guy.
Because I never remembered the name. I

212
00:14:33.519 --> 00:14:37.960
just remember the story of that happening. Yeah, that is hilarious. But

213
00:14:37.080 --> 00:14:43.440
also I love that when I looked
him up. Originally, I never read

214
00:14:43.480 --> 00:14:46.399
past strip to Kill two. I
never saw Shindler's list, I never saw

215
00:14:46.759 --> 00:14:52.480
any of these other like quintessential like
movies that's hilarious. Duke keeps going,

216
00:14:52.519 --> 00:14:54.159
I mean at that point, so
he goes to Adventures A ten ten in

217
00:14:54.159 --> 00:14:58.519
two thousand and one or twenty eleven, Warhorse twenty eleven, Lincoln twenty twelve,

218
00:14:58.559 --> 00:15:03.200
The Edge in twenty fourteen, Bridge
of Spies, the post Ready Player

219
00:15:03.240 --> 00:15:07.039
one, called the Wild Oslo Westside
Story remake in twenty twenty one, and

220
00:15:07.200 --> 00:15:11.200
did The Fableman's in twenty twenty two. So he basically is he the guy

221
00:15:11.240 --> 00:15:16.279
who like replaced Dean Kundy to Spielberg
or something, because like cause like,

222
00:15:16.440 --> 00:15:18.759
yeah wow, because I remember at
some point Kundy just stopped doing all the

223
00:15:18.799 --> 00:15:24.679
Spielberg pictures. Yeah wow, what
a what a career? Okay, what

224
00:15:24.720 --> 00:15:28.879
was his name? Yanu's Janis Kiminski. Yanis Kaminski. We salute you as

225
00:15:28.879 --> 00:15:37.240
a director of photography. Uh and
uh do you even movie? Will be

226
00:15:37.440 --> 00:15:52.639
right back, welcome back to do
You Even movie? Yeah? So are

227
00:15:52.639 --> 00:15:56.000
you ready to move into the synopsis? Sure? All right? So the

228
00:15:56.080 --> 00:16:00.159
IMDb synopsis for Little Giants says,
a misfit from their opposing team of an

229
00:16:00.159 --> 00:16:04.759
elite pee wee football team coached by
the elite team coach's brother. My synopsis

230
00:16:04.840 --> 00:16:08.279
says Danny O'she forms his own team
of misfits for a peewee football team.

231
00:16:08.279 --> 00:16:11.519
When his older brother Kevin decides to
cut Danny's daughter from his elite team.

232
00:16:11.759 --> 00:16:15.159
Together, Danny and his team must
find a way to show Kevin there's more

233
00:16:15.159 --> 00:16:21.279
to them than meets the eye.
Well, that would be a transformer's synopsis,

234
00:16:21.440 --> 00:16:23.879
David. It works, It doesn't, I think so. I mean,

235
00:16:23.960 --> 00:16:26.440
I don't know why you would need
to Now I'm critiquing you, like,

236
00:16:26.519 --> 00:16:30.080
I'm like, like, like I'm
at work. Why would you put

237
00:16:30.120 --> 00:16:33.159
o'sha in there? Nobody needs to
know that? It could just be Danny

238
00:16:33.360 --> 00:16:40.159
Danny. You didn't even mention that
his wife left him? Why would I

239
00:16:40.200 --> 00:16:45.080
need to mention that. I feel
like it's prudent. No, that's not

240
00:16:45.159 --> 00:16:47.519
a bad synopsis. It's not a
bad synopsis, not at all. So

241
00:16:47.639 --> 00:16:52.320
how did you first see Little Giants
television? Television? Actually? You know

242
00:16:52.360 --> 00:16:59.759
what I actually know. I think
that it was rented at a friend's house

243
00:17:00.200 --> 00:17:03.080
because the first time I saw,
oh boy, the first time I saw

244
00:17:03.080 --> 00:17:06.039
Little Giants, I was in New
Hampshire visiting my dad. Yeah, I

245
00:17:06.079 --> 00:17:11.119
think maybe one of my dad's buddies
kids had rented it because I remember watching

246
00:17:11.240 --> 00:17:15.000
or maybe it was on TV,
but this would have been this would have

247
00:17:15.000 --> 00:17:17.799
been like ninety five, Okay,
so it would have been when it was

248
00:17:18.000 --> 00:17:21.440
just on home video. Yeah,
so that's the first time I remember seeing

249
00:17:21.440 --> 00:17:25.440
it, and then I remember rerunning
on television. My favorite moment of the

250
00:17:25.440 --> 00:17:27.799
whole movie, which we'll get to
in quite a while, but I always

251
00:17:29.000 --> 00:17:33.720
always remembered them putting Alca Seltzer in
the mouse to simulate that their mad dogs.

252
00:17:33.599 --> 00:17:37.319
Yeah, yeah, yeah, my
first time seeing it. This was

253
00:17:37.359 --> 00:17:41.039
like a regular staple at my house. My mom loves this movie. Is

254
00:17:41.079 --> 00:17:45.000
it all the farts? I don't
know what it is, like, let's

255
00:17:45.000 --> 00:17:47.200
get her on the phone. I
mean we could, but but no,

256
00:17:47.359 --> 00:17:49.240
she always loved this movie. Anytime
it was on TV, anytime like it

257
00:17:49.279 --> 00:17:52.960
was on cable. We always had
it on and I mean we rented it

258
00:17:52.079 --> 00:17:56.799
several times. From like Diamond Video, which was an old I remember diving.

259
00:17:56.880 --> 00:18:00.599
There were multiple Diamond videos. I
remember Troy had a really good We

260
00:18:00.640 --> 00:18:04.319
had one bye. We had one
in the same shopping plaza as the Blockbuster

261
00:18:04.359 --> 00:18:07.799
in Hollywood Video that were right next
to each other. We had a little

262
00:18:07.799 --> 00:18:10.960
Diamond video. Yeah, in the
corner, and I used to go there

263
00:18:11.000 --> 00:18:15.400
because my sister had a friend who
worked there and they rented WCW home videos

264
00:18:15.799 --> 00:18:18.680
World Championship Wrestling home videos, all
right, So I would go there and

265
00:18:18.720 --> 00:18:22.119
rent those bad boys and then but
it feels like in my brain that like

266
00:18:22.160 --> 00:18:26.119
five weeks later it was out of
business. It wasn't literally, but it

267
00:18:26.119 --> 00:18:30.240
felt like I felt like that quick
yeah no, Like I mean, I've

268
00:18:30.279 --> 00:18:33.680
seen this movie so many times and
the scene that always sticks out to me

269
00:18:33.799 --> 00:18:36.400
is and we'll get to that as
well, is the scene when they have

270
00:18:36.519 --> 00:18:40.519
the tackle demonstration with with Ed O'Neil's
character. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah

271
00:18:40.559 --> 00:18:44.319
no. That's one of the height
of the physical humor in this movie.

272
00:18:44.359 --> 00:18:47.799
And speaking of our cast, we
have Rick mirandas here who plays Danny O'Shea.

273
00:18:48.200 --> 00:18:51.960
He started on Second City TV in
nineteen eighty goes to work in Twilight

274
00:18:52.000 --> 00:18:55.960
Theater in eighty two, then does
Second City TV Network in eighty two,

275
00:18:56.279 --> 00:18:59.480
Night Flight in eighty two, Saturday
Night Live in nineteen eighty three, does

276
00:18:59.519 --> 00:19:02.960
the film Range brew in eighty three, Streets of Fire in eighty four,

277
00:19:03.240 --> 00:19:07.279
Ghostbusters in eighty four, The Wildlife, The Last Polka Brewsters Millions Club,

278
00:19:07.319 --> 00:19:11.720
Paradise, Little Shop of Horror,
Spaceballs, Ghostbusters two, but anything memorable,

279
00:19:11.799 --> 00:19:14.519
Honey, I shrunk the kids in
nineteen eighty nine. Now we're cooking.

280
00:19:14.839 --> 00:19:17.359
That's when we should do on the
show. I adore, Honey,

281
00:19:17.359 --> 00:19:18.440
I shrunk the kids, and I
think we should do this next one too.

282
00:19:18.519 --> 00:19:22.279
Parenthood in nineteen eighty nine. Never
seen it, Oh my god,

283
00:19:22.319 --> 00:19:25.359
it's so good. The Rocket Boy
nineteen eighty nine, My Blue Heaven La

284
00:19:25.440 --> 00:19:27.160
Story, Honey, I blew up
the kids, Splitting Airs, the Flintstones,

285
00:19:27.160 --> 00:19:30.960
Little Giants, Honey, I shrunk
the audience, Sesame Street, Big

286
00:19:30.000 --> 00:19:33.599
Bully, Honey, we shrunk ourselves. Brother Bear, the Animated Adventures of

287
00:19:33.640 --> 00:19:37.400
Bob and Doug McKenzie. And he
was on The Goldbergs in twenty thirteen.

288
00:19:37.599 --> 00:19:40.359
When he was on The Goldbergs,
I don't remember that. I don't either

289
00:19:40.640 --> 00:19:42.440
his character was. I think they
said black helmet, so I think it

290
00:19:42.480 --> 00:19:47.559
was like a Spaceball's episode. Oh
that's such a great use of the talents

291
00:19:47.559 --> 00:19:51.680
of Rick Moranas. Yeah. Sorry, I love Rick Brannas, but I

292
00:19:51.960 --> 00:19:56.920
I so. As I've gotten older, I have realized that as a kid,

293
00:19:57.480 --> 00:20:04.599
I had no appreciation for Ghostbusters because
Ghostbusters is so much funnier for an

294
00:20:04.640 --> 00:20:10.200
adult. Oh yeah, absolutely.
There are jokes about interest rate loans and

295
00:20:10.200 --> 00:20:12.839
and my favorite jokes are Rick Branna
saying like saying like at the best Prayer

296
00:20:12.880 --> 00:20:15.680
is all the food at my party's
tax deductible. As long as I invite

297
00:20:15.720 --> 00:20:21.160
clients instead of friends, I lie. As long as I invite clients instead

298
00:20:21.200 --> 00:20:27.240
of prey who brought the dog?
So next in our cast we have Ed

299
00:20:27.240 --> 00:20:30.759
O'Neil, who plays Kevin o'sha seventy
credits on his resume and also I had

300
00:20:30.839 --> 00:20:37.720
no idea of his his work before
Dutch and like all that other like he

301
00:20:37.799 --> 00:20:40.000
has a lot of stuff at the
eighties, I had no idea about that

302
00:20:40.000 --> 00:20:42.799
I want to try because it all
flopped. Yeah, yeah, he look

303
00:20:42.920 --> 00:20:48.200
no disrespect to mister Ed O'Neill.
He not only is he in one of

304
00:20:48.200 --> 00:20:51.720
the most underrated films of all time, Dutch, which I really do think

305
00:20:51.759 --> 00:20:55.000
should be a classic, and he'll
be on the show, but not Ed

306
00:20:55.039 --> 00:20:59.119
O'Neil will not be on the show. Don't listen to Dave uh No.

307
00:20:59.200 --> 00:21:03.599
But not only that, but Married
with Children obviously massive hit. And then

308
00:21:03.640 --> 00:21:07.400
he goes in like fifteen years later
ends up on another hit sitcom, Modern

309
00:21:07.440 --> 00:21:11.799
Family. I mean you, You
really can't get a better career experience than

310
00:21:11.839 --> 00:21:14.920
an O'Neill in Hollywood. So his
first movie in nineteen eighty is Cruising.

311
00:21:14.960 --> 00:21:17.599
He goes to do Today, The
Women Got Even in nineteen eighty, as

312
00:21:17.640 --> 00:21:19.720
well Dogs of War nineteen eighty,
Another World in nineteen eighty, When Your

313
00:21:19.759 --> 00:21:22.640
Lover Leaves in eighty three. He
was on Miami Vice in eighty four,

314
00:21:23.000 --> 00:21:26.079
Hunter in eighty five, The Equalizer
Series in eighty five. Then he does

315
00:21:26.119 --> 00:21:30.319
The French Connection three in nineteen eighty
six, where he plays Popeye Doyle.

316
00:21:30.720 --> 00:21:34.519
What It's a TV movie? What? Yeah? Nineteen eighty six The French

317
00:21:34.519 --> 00:21:41.519
Connection three, Ed O'Neil plays Popeye
Doyle. What No, my mind is

318
00:21:41.519 --> 00:21:45.240
blown? Yeah? Good old ed
box office poison O'Neill so that he does

319
00:21:45.359 --> 00:21:48.440
Right to Die in nineteen eighty seven, Scores Married with Children in eighty seven,

320
00:21:48.480 --> 00:21:51.680
as well Organized Disorganized Crime in nineteen
eighty nine in the movie I Showed

321
00:21:51.720 --> 00:21:53.960
You Yes. Then he does K
nine in eighty nine, The Adventures of

322
00:21:55.039 --> 00:21:59.519
Ford fair Lane in nineteen ninety,
Our Buddy Cappies Click Sibling Rivalry in nineteen

323
00:21:59.599 --> 00:22:02.759
ninety The Whereabouts of Jenny in ninety
one, Dutch in ninety one. So

324
00:22:02.799 --> 00:22:06.279
yeah, Dutch was before this or
before Oh yeah, that'sch was in ninety

325
00:22:06.279 --> 00:22:08.000
one. Yeah, I forgot about
that. I knew that, I did

326
00:22:08.039 --> 00:22:11.000
not. There's a lot you don't
know. Yeah, I'm aware. Wayns

327
00:22:11.000 --> 00:22:15.440
World ninety two, Waynes World two
ninety three, Blue Chips, Little Giants,

328
00:22:15.480 --> 00:22:18.000
Prefontaine, The Spanish Pioneer, The
Bone Collector, the Tenth Kingdom,

329
00:22:18.079 --> 00:22:26.799
Spanish Pioneer. Yeah, I mean
the Spanish are prisoners. They could work

330
00:22:26.839 --> 00:22:29.519
for both. Do you want Do
you want me to take over the show

331
00:22:29.599 --> 00:22:33.680
and go take the nap? The
Bone Collector nineteen ninety nine, Tenth Kingdom

332
00:22:33.720 --> 00:22:36.960
two thousand, Lucky Numbers two thousand, Nobody's Baby two thousand and one,

333
00:22:37.200 --> 00:22:38.960
Spartan two thousand and four, eight
Sibl Rules for Dating, My Teenage Daughter

334
00:22:40.000 --> 00:22:41.559
in two thousand and five, West
Wing two thousand and five, Red bult

335
00:22:41.599 --> 00:22:45.480
A Belt, Modern Family in two
thousand and nine, My God Wreck and

336
00:22:45.559 --> 00:22:49.359
Ralph In twenty twelve, Entourage Movie
twenty fifteen, Family Guy twenty fifteen,

337
00:22:49.400 --> 00:22:52.559
Finding Dory twenty sixteen, and he
was in a movie called The Last Shift

338
00:22:52.559 --> 00:22:56.359
in twenty twenty. He's done a
couple of things since then, but nothing

339
00:22:56.519 --> 00:23:00.720
major. He's mainly just done Modern
Family is one of his biggest things.

340
00:23:00.759 --> 00:23:02.920
He's got to be up there in
age. He's got to be in his

341
00:23:02.960 --> 00:23:06.039
seventies, right, I believe so
he has to, or at least he's

342
00:23:06.039 --> 00:23:07.359
about to be. He's gonna be
closed. Yeah. And then wrapping up

343
00:23:07.359 --> 00:23:11.400
our cast is Devin Sawa, who
plays Junior. He started his career on

344
00:23:11.880 --> 00:23:15.400
Unsubbed in nineteen eighty nine. Sherlock
Holmes returns in ninety three. He did

345
00:23:15.400 --> 00:23:21.400
a bunch of Nerve commercials. Those
yep, those Nerve commercials were literally for

346
00:23:21.640 --> 00:23:26.279
my generation. Yeah, they were
like directly targeted at children my age.

347
00:23:26.319 --> 00:23:27.720
You best believe they're all on YouTube
too, because I pulled up a couple

348
00:23:27.720 --> 00:23:30.920
because of course they are. I
thought I remembered one of them. I

349
00:23:30.960 --> 00:23:33.920
totally did Little Giants in ninety four. He does Casper in nineteen ninety five

350
00:23:34.000 --> 00:23:37.160
now and then nineteen ninety five Night
of the Twisters ninety six. I've heard

351
00:23:37.200 --> 00:23:38.839
that's a good one. I've never
seen that. Yep. I was the

352
00:23:38.839 --> 00:23:41.200
one that told you that. And
it's on YouTube, and I think it's

353
00:23:41.200 --> 00:23:45.119
somewhere else too. I can't remember, but Night of the Twisters was an

354
00:23:45.119 --> 00:23:48.640
ABC or family movie that played all
the time, and it's pretty scary.

355
00:23:48.160 --> 00:23:52.000
Well yet it was back then.
That's good to hear. Yeah, yeah,

356
00:23:52.039 --> 00:23:53.880
you know. Robin of Loxley in
ninety six, The Boys Club ninety

357
00:23:53.920 --> 00:23:57.799
six, Action Man ninety six,
Wild America nineteen ninety seven, The Jonathan

358
00:23:57.799 --> 00:24:03.200
Taylor Thomas movie. How did JTT
never really take off? He was such

359
00:24:03.240 --> 00:24:07.279
a big deal, really was?
Yeah that it wasn't so? SLC Punk

360
00:24:07.279 --> 00:24:11.400
in ninety six, Around the Fire
ninety eight, Idle Hands ninety nine,

361
00:24:11.559 --> 00:24:15.079
Final Destination two thousand, The Guilty
two thousand. He was in the eminem

362
00:24:15.160 --> 00:24:18.559
music video for Stand in two thousand
as well. Oh yeah, yeah,

363
00:24:18.599 --> 00:24:21.799
Slackers two thousand and two, Extreme
Ops two thousand and two. Remember Extreme

364
00:24:21.799 --> 00:24:25.799
Ops. Nope, that was like
a cash off of Triple X when they

365
00:24:25.799 --> 00:24:29.599
put out a bunch of those like
Extreme Well that was but that was all

366
00:24:29.640 --> 00:24:34.119
because of extreme sport, extreme sports, the era of skateboards and surge.

367
00:24:34.359 --> 00:24:38.000
Yep, he does the Spider Man
cartoon two thousand and three, Extreme Dating

368
00:24:38.000 --> 00:24:42.519
two thousand and five, Devil's Den
n CISLa a Resurrection Nikita, Exorcism of

369
00:24:42.599 --> 00:24:47.079
Molly Hartley, which was a movie
I remember Wasn't wasn't Devil's Den. That

370
00:24:47.119 --> 00:24:48.119
was Jeff Burr, I believe.
So yeah, yeah, yeah, my

371
00:24:48.160 --> 00:24:52.880
buddy Jeff did that one. And
Extra Molly Hartley was one of those movies

372
00:24:52.920 --> 00:24:55.480
that was like it was they sold
it a hot topic. I remember that

373
00:24:55.559 --> 00:24:59.359
distinctly, of course you do.
And it's what I've never seen. But

374
00:24:59.400 --> 00:25:00.799
I've heard it's I've heard it's good, and I've also heard it's bad.

375
00:25:00.880 --> 00:25:04.039
I really want to see it.
How could you not get a movie that

376
00:25:04.079 --> 00:25:07.240
was sold at hot topic? It's
your two favorite dings in one only Night,

377
00:25:07.279 --> 00:25:11.680
Deadly Night when it got re when
it got re released just by itself

378
00:25:11.359 --> 00:25:15.440
by Anchor Bay, they were carrying
it at hot topic as well. That's

379
00:25:15.440 --> 00:25:18.480
insane. I never heard that.
Yeah, Life on the Line in twenty

380
00:25:18.519 --> 00:25:22.799
fifteen, Punk's Dead Sally SLC Punk
and twenty sixteen Wife I though, The

381
00:25:22.799 --> 00:25:27.039
Fanatic in twenty nineteen. I remember
The Fanatic because we watched it. Yeah,

382
00:25:27.359 --> 00:25:30.839
Something Disturbing the Peace twenty twenty,
but Guy for twenty twenty, Hunter

383
00:25:30.920 --> 00:25:34.920
Hunter twenty twenty, Hunter Hunter.
That's a film that if you have not

384
00:25:36.119 --> 00:25:40.039
seen it or heard about it.
I can't ruin it for you because it's

385
00:25:40.039 --> 00:25:45.960
too good. But it is a
solid indie drama thriller, really fun and

386
00:25:45.119 --> 00:25:49.799
the ending will leave your jaw on
the floor. Yeah. Cannot recommend Hunter

387
00:25:49.880 --> 00:25:56.200
Hunter enough. And I love when
a title doesn't seem to make sense and

388
00:25:56.240 --> 00:26:00.440
by the end it does. Yeah, and Hunter Hunter makes sense sense.

389
00:26:00.519 --> 00:26:03.920
Yes. Then he was also in
and executive produced Black Friday in twenty twenty

390
00:26:03.920 --> 00:26:07.079
one, the Bruce Campbell movie.
Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, Well,

391
00:26:07.480 --> 00:26:11.240
I mean I don't know if he
actually produced it or he got a

392
00:26:11.279 --> 00:26:15.119
split got chat, but yeah,
no, you know, but Devin saw

393
00:26:15.319 --> 00:26:18.960
was the real deal Banana Peel and
recently he's on the Chucky series, which

394
00:26:18.960 --> 00:26:23.000
started in twenty twenty one. I
have got to watch the Chuck. Watched

395
00:26:23.039 --> 00:26:26.359
the first season. It's it's good. Look at you, You're like,

396
00:26:26.400 --> 00:26:29.079
it's good. I haven't watched all
of it at all, but it's good.

397
00:26:29.920 --> 00:26:32.880
I wasn't against it when they announced
it, but I was also just

398
00:26:32.920 --> 00:26:36.400
like, how is this gonna work? And then well, you see every

399
00:26:36.400 --> 00:26:40.920
week they release another episode until the
season's over. That is that how it

400
00:26:40.960 --> 00:26:44.599
works? Yeah? Yeah, it's
it's similar to other television shows. What

401
00:26:44.640 --> 00:26:48.519
are television shows? Look at you? You ready to get into the movie.

402
00:26:48.240 --> 00:26:52.000
I'm really curious what you're gonna read
inaccurately. Oh yeah, I'm getting

403
00:26:52.039 --> 00:26:56.000
to I was worried that I,
being the one operating on no sleep,

404
00:26:56.000 --> 00:27:00.039
would be the weak link here.
My throat is getting raspy. But you're

405
00:27:00.079 --> 00:27:03.200
really taking the bullet for me on
this one. I'm so welcome, buddy,

406
00:27:04.000 --> 00:27:07.880
missed you being off? Oh goodness, go on, all right.

407
00:27:07.960 --> 00:27:11.119
So we see an Urbania water tower, and that is the town that we

408
00:27:11.160 --> 00:27:15.559
are in in nineteen sixty four,
and we're in Ohio. We are,

409
00:27:15.720 --> 00:27:21.240
but also the movie Yeah, and
I always I found that hilarious because Urbania

410
00:27:21.519 --> 00:27:25.640
is one letter off from Urbana,
Ohio, which is like up the highway,

411
00:27:25.839 --> 00:27:27.400
well like really close to you,
but like up the highway from me.

412
00:27:27.960 --> 00:27:32.519
So I always thought that was funny. It's Urbana, Ohio. So

413
00:27:32.599 --> 00:27:34.920
we see the young o'sha brothers.
We have Danny and we have Kevin,

414
00:27:34.920 --> 00:27:37.720
and they're walking down the road.
As Danny tells his brother he's excited to

415
00:27:37.720 --> 00:27:41.000
spend the day with them. Kevin
is not enthusied. No, Kevin is

416
00:27:41.039 --> 00:27:47.279
not, And I have to say, what a cruelness to have a casting

417
00:27:47.359 --> 00:27:49.880
director look at a little child and
be like, you look like you're in

418
00:27:51.880 --> 00:27:53.799
the Only thing crueler than that looking
at a little child and going, you

419
00:27:53.839 --> 00:27:59.480
look like branas, you're in.
So Danny and Kevin hop the fence and

420
00:27:59.519 --> 00:28:03.039
we see that Kevin is getting together
with his friends to play football, and

421
00:28:03.160 --> 00:28:04.680
Kevin turns it. Danny down on
joining and basically says, you're on the

422
00:28:04.680 --> 00:28:07.440
injured team or you're on the injured
list this time round, so he can't

423
00:28:07.440 --> 00:28:11.400
play. So Kevin tells him that
you know, it's fine because we're He

424
00:28:11.440 --> 00:28:15.480
looks the water tower and says,
you know, one day our names are

425
00:28:15.519 --> 00:28:18.480
going to be on that water tower. You just watch thirty years passes immediately

426
00:28:18.519 --> 00:28:23.359
and we see that it's become true, except it's just Kevin O'Shea. And

427
00:28:23.400 --> 00:28:27.039
this is where we get into the
meat of this show. Yeah, David,

428
00:28:29.119 --> 00:28:33.119
you asked me if I played sports? No, so what sports did

429
00:28:33.160 --> 00:28:38.920
you play? Razor as a little
kid or as a teen? Oh?

430
00:28:38.960 --> 00:28:44.119
God? So grow I mean growing
up, I played played soccer. I

431
00:28:44.200 --> 00:28:47.559
never played football, but I played
soccer, I played baseball, and I

432
00:28:47.640 --> 00:28:49.640
ran track. We're basically my three
I really liked baseball, and I really

433
00:28:49.680 --> 00:28:52.799
liked track soccer. I did like
two years of and then that was enough.

434
00:28:52.799 --> 00:28:56.319
And I did karate once, but
my mom had to basically drag me

435
00:28:56.359 --> 00:28:59.799
to karate practice every day because I
never wanted to go. Why did you?

436
00:29:00.000 --> 00:29:02.559
Are you afraid that one day you'd
have to face Stephen Segal and you

437
00:29:02.640 --> 00:29:04.880
knew you wouldn't be able to Maybe
you knew that would be the end or

438
00:29:04.920 --> 00:29:08.079
the cobra kai would come in.
Yet Oh man, I see, I

439
00:29:08.079 --> 00:29:11.519
mean it's a yellow belt at least. Yeah, I mean I got my

440
00:29:11.599 --> 00:29:15.480
yellow belt. I don't know where
the hell it is. That's so dishonorable.

441
00:29:15.880 --> 00:29:21.000
I have my yellow you still have
it? You when you bow to

442
00:29:21.039 --> 00:29:23.240
your sense, is that a lie? I don't remember. I was like

443
00:29:23.319 --> 00:29:29.039
five or six, so was I. I was like six. You you

444
00:29:29.079 --> 00:29:33.880
when you bowed to that sense,
you were lying? You did I remember

445
00:29:33.960 --> 00:29:37.240
no respect. I remember that I
did not do well in that class,

446
00:29:37.599 --> 00:29:40.880
and the yellow belt would just kind
of felt like a participation to me at

447
00:29:40.880 --> 00:29:44.839
that point. Wow, I'm just
saying, Oh, I'm honest. You

448
00:29:44.880 --> 00:29:48.279
bowed to your opponent, you bow
to your sense, and then you just

449
00:29:48.359 --> 00:29:51.640
like, I'll throw my belt and
with some rotten banana peels. I think

450
00:29:51.640 --> 00:29:53.880
I so nag. I'd still to
be honest, that's even worse. You

451
00:29:55.000 --> 00:30:00.920
can't sell a yellow belt. They're
earned. David. I don't know where

452
00:30:00.920 --> 00:30:03.359
it is. I don't know where
it went. I just know I had

453
00:30:03.400 --> 00:30:07.200
it at one point because I remember
I said tight around my head because Schwarzenegger

454
00:30:07.240 --> 00:30:14.039
did that in uh jingle all the
way, you have like zero respect for

455
00:30:14.119 --> 00:30:22.920
karate. This was like twenty plus
years ago. Man, So do you

456
00:30:22.160 --> 00:30:33.640
even? Movie? Will be right
back, welcome back to do you even?

457
00:30:33.759 --> 00:30:41.960
Movie? We see adult Kevin holding
tryouts for peewee football, told on

458
00:30:42.640 --> 00:30:49.000
okay we weren't diving. Oh okay, so I'm guessing old long legs Dave.

459
00:30:49.279 --> 00:30:56.240
Yeah, yeah, his school never
got picked last for any teams.

460
00:30:53.920 --> 00:30:59.920
M Dodgeball. You got picked last
for dodgeball? Uh, not often,

461
00:31:00.160 --> 00:31:02.519
but I mean it happened several times. I still have a memory. I

462
00:31:02.519 --> 00:31:03.759
think it was there was. You're
like, I don't have a lot of

463
00:31:03.799 --> 00:31:07.720
memories because you know, getting hit
in the head of the dramas, Yeah

464
00:31:07.759 --> 00:31:11.640
and trauma. No, yeah,
dodgeball. I got picked last four a

465
00:31:11.640 --> 00:31:15.000
couple of times, and I think
like the one they always picked me first

466
00:31:15.000 --> 00:31:18.440
for was kickball, but that was
usually around junior high high school time.

467
00:31:18.480 --> 00:31:21.720
But yeah, in regards of elementary
when you played kickball in high school and

468
00:31:21.839 --> 00:31:25.200
pee when I had to take I
had to take one year of pe because

469
00:31:25.240 --> 00:31:27.920
we had the option for summer gym, and I did it once and then

470
00:31:29.119 --> 00:31:30.279
I still had to get one more
credits. I like to imagine you were

471
00:31:30.279 --> 00:31:37.440
in remedial pe. I was not
in remedial PE. I got picked last

472
00:31:37.559 --> 00:31:41.880
so many times that the gym teacher
felt bad. When I was in elementary

473
00:31:41.880 --> 00:31:44.440
school, David, are you really
gonna wipe your face with your shirt?

474
00:31:44.559 --> 00:31:48.160
Yes, yes I am. I'm
sweating, so so like, why don't

475
00:31:48.160 --> 00:31:51.519
you just white sweat, you goddamn
yellow belt and then you can spit in

476
00:31:51.519 --> 00:31:53.559
the country in Japan? How about
that? Why are we talking about my

477
00:31:53.640 --> 00:31:57.559
yellow belts? Because I can't believe
you you do you do? You often

478
00:31:57.640 --> 00:32:02.480
bow to people and then go JK
and then just like crap on their society.

479
00:32:02.559 --> 00:32:06.400
Not that I recall no, but
again I was also like five,

480
00:32:07.599 --> 00:32:09.160
you were a little shit, is
what you were. I wanted to watch

481
00:32:09.240 --> 00:32:12.680
Power Rangers instead of going to karate. I can tell you that much.

482
00:32:12.880 --> 00:32:20.960
It is the same thing, is
it, though? Yes, the recent

483
00:32:21.039 --> 00:32:24.000
you're a karates because Power Rangers just
so cool. See, I was a

484
00:32:24.160 --> 00:32:28.319
kid who was such a loser.
I thought Bruce Lee was cool and I

485
00:32:28.440 --> 00:32:30.440
was mad because we couldn't find a
kung fu do jo. Yeah that's fair,

486
00:32:30.920 --> 00:32:34.519
yep. Yeah. Actually, God, I'm trying to remember the lot

487
00:32:34.519 --> 00:32:37.319
of living. I have my yellow
belt, you know why, because I

488
00:32:37.359 --> 00:32:39.839
made a pledge. Now I'm not
curious. I do have my yellow boat.

489
00:32:39.880 --> 00:32:44.039
Actually, he's trying to save face. No, I'm more so just

490
00:32:44.079 --> 00:32:45.720
trying to think have I seen it
recently? Because I'm wondering if it's actually

491
00:32:45.720 --> 00:32:50.000
in my basement in my tub of
shit, or it might be in the

492
00:32:50.000 --> 00:32:53.359
top of my closet at my parents'
house. Great dishonor can we get back

493
00:32:53.400 --> 00:32:59.559
to the movie. All I'm saying
is I was picked last enough that my

494
00:32:59.680 --> 00:33:04.000
gym teacher in elementary school started letting
me just opt to not play. I'm

495
00:33:04.039 --> 00:33:09.400
sorry, I'm sorry I keep picking
children's movies with sports and what you I

496
00:33:09.440 --> 00:33:13.359
got a childhood. I'll talk about
it. I'm a fraid you're the one

497
00:33:13.359 --> 00:33:19.319
who gets uncomfortable when I talk about
my brutal childhood. We see adult Kevin

498
00:33:19.400 --> 00:33:22.359
holding tryouts for peewee football and it's
a it's a band of ragtag kids.

499
00:33:22.359 --> 00:33:25.480
We've got one scene where a kid
gets tackled by ice Box, who is

500
00:33:25.799 --> 00:33:30.359
Danny's daughter, and the kid looks
like he has a head wound. I

501
00:33:30.359 --> 00:33:30.960
love this. He looks like he
has a head wound. Yeah, it

502
00:33:31.000 --> 00:33:36.039
looks like there's blood coming out of
his helmet. But then it's revealed.

503
00:33:36.440 --> 00:33:38.799
Well, and of course he's a
fat kid, yes, and look,

504
00:33:39.000 --> 00:33:44.559
I know it's not nice, but
in this era, he's a fat kid.

505
00:33:44.839 --> 00:33:47.279
Sorry about you. He's a fat
kid. And they reveal that he

506
00:33:47.440 --> 00:33:52.319
has a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
and a bag of che in his helmet.

507
00:33:52.400 --> 00:33:57.960
And don't forget the Cheetos are crunchy
or puffs, they're puffs. Yeah,

508
00:33:58.079 --> 00:34:04.279
he's like, what a what a
so Icebox basically tackles him and that

509
00:34:04.440 --> 00:34:07.079
they reveal the helmet. At that
point. Icebox is the only girl on

510
00:34:07.119 --> 00:34:09.599
the team trying out right now too, and that is Danny's daughter. Danny

511
00:34:09.599 --> 00:34:14.079
stops by to see Becky as she's
getting into a fight with the kids because

512
00:34:14.079 --> 00:34:16.320
they've been intimidating the rest of the
Ragtags. There's a team there that it

513
00:34:16.440 --> 00:34:22.000
has a lot more athletic and because
they're trying out for the team, Yeah

514
00:34:22.039 --> 00:34:28.360
yeah, yeah. So he joins
his family, which is Kevin's wife,

515
00:34:28.360 --> 00:34:31.039
on the sidelines, and Becky calls
out for her uncle that she's so proud

516
00:34:31.079 --> 00:34:35.320
of it. He calls the names
of the team, but Becky and the

517
00:34:35.360 --> 00:34:38.480
other misfits do not get picked,
not a one. Not a single Melvin

518
00:34:38.519 --> 00:34:42.000
on the team, not a single
one. He thanks them for trying out

519
00:34:42.039 --> 00:34:45.320
and says there's always next year.
Sorry, losers, I guess you'll just

520
00:34:45.400 --> 00:34:49.639
have to found Amazon or something,
so you're not playing football. So Danny

521
00:34:49.679 --> 00:34:52.440
goes to try and comfort the kids, and he goes to talk to his

522
00:34:52.440 --> 00:34:54.440
brother as well, because his brother
is driving a nice Corvette and he's just

523
00:34:54.480 --> 00:34:58.840
living life happy because they've got the
team now and he's gonna take this team

524
00:34:58.840 --> 00:35:01.239
to a championship victory. Because that's
one thing that I forgot to mention is

525
00:35:01.280 --> 00:35:06.000
that when he's giving his speech before
he tells the kids, Becky calls him

526
00:35:06.039 --> 00:35:09.159
out on everything that he's gonna say
about his three championship victories, his heisman

527
00:35:09.199 --> 00:35:13.159
trophy that he got and she's just
naming him all right before. He says

528
00:35:13.199 --> 00:35:16.039
that, yeah, because he was
super successful and he's turned it into a

529
00:35:16.119 --> 00:35:22.159
Chevy dealership in his hometown, which
is a little sad, little said,

530
00:35:22.159 --> 00:35:24.400
we'll sad, little sad. So, I mean, but I don't have

531
00:35:24.400 --> 00:35:27.679
a Chevy dealership to you, I
don't have one. Not you don't even

532
00:35:27.679 --> 00:35:34.000
have a yellow belt. You should
have never told me that. So Kevin

533
00:35:34.119 --> 00:35:36.960
says he only has three weeks to
put together a team for the victory,

534
00:35:37.000 --> 00:35:38.079
and Danny says, well, you
know, you hurt their feelings as well,

535
00:35:38.119 --> 00:35:40.199
and what does winning have to do
with this. It's peewee football.

536
00:35:42.000 --> 00:35:45.159
You know, it's terrible. So
he says, like this is good for

537
00:35:45.199 --> 00:35:47.559
them, Yeah, because this teaches
them, like you know that you don't

538
00:35:47.599 --> 00:35:51.519
get what you want to say.
I'm kind of on at O'Neill's side.

539
00:35:51.840 --> 00:35:55.239
It's actually good for these kids.
It's good to experience rejection. Yeah,

540
00:35:55.480 --> 00:35:59.760
because it weeds out the week.
So every kid that steps in front of

541
00:35:59.760 --> 00:36:05.519
a car and kills himself what no, but but no, but in all

542
00:36:05.559 --> 00:36:08.599
seriously, no, but I mean
it teaches you if you if you get

543
00:36:08.840 --> 00:36:13.440
you don't get picked for the team. Then it teaches you that like either

544
00:36:13.559 --> 00:36:15.599
you really want it so you're willing
to wait a year and practice hard,

545
00:36:16.159 --> 00:36:19.599
or you didn't really want it that
much, you were just kind of interested,

546
00:36:19.679 --> 00:36:22.079
like a kid who throws his yellow
belt away. My god, this

547
00:36:22.199 --> 00:36:24.920
is never gonna go away, not
ever. For your birthday. I'm gonna

548
00:36:24.960 --> 00:36:30.320
get you like a missing sign for
a yellow belt. My god, I

549
00:36:30.320 --> 00:36:32.960
gotta find this yellow boat. Yeah
you do, and I'll know if you

550
00:36:34.039 --> 00:36:38.480
bought one on Amazon, I'll know
it better have the certificate of authentic sharp,

551
00:36:38.920 --> 00:36:45.760
like a date certificate of authenticity on
it. So Kevin's house, he's

552
00:36:45.760 --> 00:36:47.559
having dinner with his wife and his
two girls, and carried His wife questions

553
00:36:47.559 --> 00:36:51.920
why he didn't choose Becky, which
is his niece, uh, basically calling

554
00:36:51.920 --> 00:36:53.400
out for being a chowvinis like,
yeah, because she is a really good

555
00:36:53.440 --> 00:36:58.400
base uh baseball football, you know
what baseball players. No, she's a

556
00:36:58.440 --> 00:37:00.480
very good football player. Yeah.
They call her ice box. Icebox.

557
00:37:00.800 --> 00:37:04.800
So we cut over to Danny,
who's trying to comfort Becky, telling her

558
00:37:04.960 --> 00:37:07.000
that, you know, not being
picked a street er up for all this

559
00:37:07.039 --> 00:37:08.599
time for her to do something else. But Becky just wants to play football.

560
00:37:08.840 --> 00:37:12.599
That's when we cut to the clubhouse
where the misfits are and three of

561
00:37:12.639 --> 00:37:14.920
the guys that made the team show
up and start picking on the kids,

562
00:37:14.960 --> 00:37:19.000
and Ice Box rolls up in a
in a go cart yes, and she

563
00:37:19.199 --> 00:37:22.920
chases them down on their bicycles yep, causing them to wreck them in ways

564
00:37:22.960 --> 00:37:24.719
that I can only assume would mame. If not, well, let's see.

565
00:37:24.760 --> 00:37:28.320
We get one that goes into the
river. We get one that gets

566
00:37:28.400 --> 00:37:30.639
hit with the antenna, like because
it has like a skunk tail or something.

567
00:37:30.719 --> 00:37:34.360
Yeah, the antenna and the rack
crashes, and then the last one

568
00:37:34.440 --> 00:37:36.760
goes into the water, and he's
like, you know why, why did

569
00:37:36.760 --> 00:37:37.880
you do that? And she's like, you know, you you're not as

570
00:37:37.960 --> 00:37:40.440
good as we are because guess what, we're forming our own team and my

571
00:37:40.559 --> 00:37:46.360
dad's running it. We're forming your
own team with blackjacket hookers. So two

572
00:37:46.559 --> 00:37:51.719
saturdays from today, Eric Cup,
so she tells him that her dad is

573
00:37:51.760 --> 00:37:53.159
going to start the team. We
cut to Kevin's car a lot which is

574
00:37:53.199 --> 00:38:00.599
oh Shay Chevrolet rhymes, and he
leaves to go me to the town elders.

575
00:38:00.599 --> 00:38:02.079
At the diner, the mayor shows
up, telling him that he thought

576
00:38:02.079 --> 00:38:05.519
there was only one team in the
in the league, and now he hears

577
00:38:05.559 --> 00:38:08.320
that there's two. That's when Danny
rolls up and Becky is sitting in the

578
00:38:08.360 --> 00:38:10.000
side with him and she's like,
oh, by the way, Dad,

579
00:38:10.280 --> 00:38:14.360
I love you by and run started
a team. Bye. Yeah. So

580
00:38:15.320 --> 00:38:19.320
Kevin confronts him and the kids are
peeking at the door as Danny takes offense

581
00:38:19.320 --> 00:38:22.559
to Kevin, basically telling him that
he can't coach like he's not athletic,

582
00:38:22.599 --> 00:38:23.480
he doesn't know how to win.
He doesn't know how to win a game

583
00:38:23.719 --> 00:38:25.920
or coach kids for that matter.
Yeah, and if anything, he can

584
00:38:25.960 --> 00:38:30.480
barely tie his own shoes, let
alone keep a woman around. Rude,

585
00:38:30.519 --> 00:38:36.159
where's the mom? She ran off? She ran off point exactly. You

586
00:38:36.159 --> 00:38:38.280
know where the mom is right now
with your yellow belt, somewhere that no

587
00:38:38.320 --> 00:38:43.320
one will ever find. That's where
she is. So the kids are peeking

588
00:38:43.320 --> 00:38:45.280
at the door and they're watching Danny, and Danny stands up for him,

589
00:38:45.280 --> 00:38:47.840
telling him that he's going to form
a team and he's gonna coach it,

590
00:38:47.880 --> 00:38:52.000
and they're gonna have a playoff game
two saturdays from today, and whatever team

591
00:38:52.039 --> 00:38:53.360
wins is going to be the one
that represents the town for the league,

592
00:38:53.559 --> 00:38:58.880
and that is when we begin our
rag tag group of misfits. Yes,

593
00:38:59.400 --> 00:39:06.159
and what we get is a funny, wholesome but substantially less violent Bad News

594
00:39:06.159 --> 00:39:08.920
Bears. Yeah. Oh man,
you know we should totally cover which no

595
00:39:08.920 --> 00:39:13.159
one would expect in a million years, The Billy Bob Thornton Bad News Bears,

596
00:39:13.239 --> 00:39:16.239
which I love that one because it
is if you think kids getting hurt

597
00:39:16.320 --> 00:39:21.039
is funny, that movie's for you. I more so love the fact that

598
00:39:21.039 --> 00:39:23.360
their team gets sponsored by the Strip
Club. Oh it's all good, So

599
00:39:23.519 --> 00:39:25.800
it's all they were. They were
like, they were like, hey,

600
00:39:25.920 --> 00:39:30.079
you know, we wanta we got. We owned the Rice and Bad News

601
00:39:30.119 --> 00:39:34.719
Bears, but uh bad Sata did
real good and it had the word bad

602
00:39:34.760 --> 00:39:38.639
at it too, So uh let's
get I'm gonna go do cocaine and that's

603
00:39:38.679 --> 00:39:42.960
what the studios thought. So Becky
hugs Danny and the kids cheer as they

604
00:39:42.960 --> 00:39:45.159
start for me their team. We
see Danny talking to Nubie and he's like

605
00:39:45.400 --> 00:39:49.599
a computer whiz kid chess player,
and he's gonna have him figure out the

606
00:39:49.639 --> 00:39:52.000
plays that they're gonna run. Yes, which is which is too bad because

607
00:39:52.000 --> 00:39:54.599
I was hoping it was gonna be
like playing dangerous, and it's like,

608
00:39:54.719 --> 00:39:58.719
can you make some kind of poison
that'll make the kids crap themselves in the

609
00:39:58.719 --> 00:40:01.079
middle of the field so we can
win? So we honestly would have been

610
00:40:01.119 --> 00:40:04.559
smarter. It would be smarter.
So we see the kids start forming.

611
00:40:04.599 --> 00:40:06.920
It's a really cute scene. They're
walking the train tacks and it's a little

612
00:40:06.920 --> 00:40:08.760
bit of a montage as they pick
up the kids one by one. There's

613
00:40:08.960 --> 00:40:12.800
one kid that's outside his house and
his dad's leaving all the time. That

614
00:40:12.840 --> 00:40:16.079
one breaks breaks my heart. I
spend a lot of time alone as a

615
00:40:16.119 --> 00:40:20.800
kid, and basically he's a latchkey
kid. Yeah, so his dad is

616
00:40:20.840 --> 00:40:23.880
always going away on business and he's
always left all by himself. Yeah,

617
00:40:24.079 --> 00:40:27.760
and this is an opportunity for him
to do something other than you know,

618
00:40:27.840 --> 00:40:30.639
watch TV and microwave craft dinners.
Yeah, and they pull they pull in

619
00:40:30.679 --> 00:40:34.119
a bunch of kids at this point, and they show like a montage of

620
00:40:34.159 --> 00:40:36.960
them all trying the monkey bars,
which they're all failing. And one of

621
00:40:36.960 --> 00:40:38.599
the best parts is there's like a
pile of five of them. Yeah,

622
00:40:38.639 --> 00:40:44.119
they all fall on top of each
other and then last up the Fat Kid.

623
00:40:44.199 --> 00:40:46.559
Yep, And of course they do
the classic nineties fart sound because you

624
00:40:46.599 --> 00:40:51.599
get that throughout this entire movie,
every scene the Fat Kid is in pretty

625
00:40:51.639 --> 00:40:53.920
much he farts guaranteed fart sound.
So Icebox and the kids are at the

626
00:40:53.920 --> 00:40:58.639
grocery store and that's when they see
a kid who is throwing rolls of TV

627
00:40:58.760 --> 00:41:00.519
into a shopping car all the ways
in the aisle and they take notice of

628
00:41:00.599 --> 00:41:04.639
him, and that kid is Junior, and we see that Icebox starts to

629
00:41:04.639 --> 00:41:08.840
have a crush on him as well, and it's revealed because she's climbing up

630
00:41:08.840 --> 00:41:13.800
an aisle and the shelf comes backwards
and like completely tumbles over. Yes,

631
00:41:14.159 --> 00:41:17.119
And all I could think is he
was throwing individual rolls of toilet paper into

632
00:41:17.159 --> 00:41:20.800
the cart. Is how much more
expensive it is if you buy them one

633
00:41:20.840 --> 00:41:22.239
by one instead of getting a multi
pack? That is true, Like that

634
00:41:22.360 --> 00:41:25.559
is wasteful. I mean, that
is just wasting your money. So Icebox

635
00:41:25.559 --> 00:41:30.360
and Danny go to Junior's house and
it's a super cute scene because Danny realizes

636
00:41:30.400 --> 00:41:31.880
that ice Box is shy about Junior
because she has a crush on him.

637
00:41:31.880 --> 00:41:36.000
And then he finds out that Junior's
mom is as a girl that he had

638
00:41:36.000 --> 00:41:38.360
a crush on in school as well, which is great because that means that

639
00:41:38.480 --> 00:41:42.599
if they end up together, then
it becomes a you know, hey,

640
00:41:42.599 --> 00:41:46.800
step bro, I'm stuck. Not
wrong, not wrong. So we see

641
00:41:46.880 --> 00:41:50.840
Junior throwing passes the kids and of
course none of them can catch the ball,

642
00:41:50.960 --> 00:41:53.559
and Jake shows up in this wrapped
in these pass. Jake is a

643
00:41:53.599 --> 00:41:57.599
kid who, like his mother's super
protective, but she also wants him to

644
00:41:57.639 --> 00:42:01.719
get out and do stuff. Yeah, he's highly highly highly protected. He

645
00:42:01.760 --> 00:42:07.039
has like tons of allergies. He
was a troublesome pregnancy. And the way

646
00:42:07.039 --> 00:42:12.000
they introduced him is he has this
giant snot bubble. He's just but and

647
00:42:12.039 --> 00:42:13.519
I love it. She's like,
sorry, We're like, I had to

648
00:42:13.519 --> 00:42:15.320
take him to the doctor. He
snees three times this morning, and you

649
00:42:15.360 --> 00:42:20.280
can't be too careful. Did you
have that friend? I had that friend?

650
00:42:20.320 --> 00:42:22.280
I don't. Oh, I had
the sickly friend. I may I

651
00:42:22.280 --> 00:42:24.159
think I have one in elementary school, but now I can't. Oh,

652
00:42:24.159 --> 00:42:28.079
but I totally had like the pale
friend whose mom was always doting. Wow.

653
00:42:28.119 --> 00:42:30.719
Oh yeah, and then he died
jesus, I'm kidding. Oh,

654
00:42:30.119 --> 00:42:32.199
he's fine. I mean, I
don't know. I haven't seen him in

655
00:42:32.199 --> 00:42:36.880
forty or thirty years. But like, so Jake shows up wrapped in faux,

656
00:42:37.719 --> 00:42:40.440
wrapped in Faux's face, just wrapped
in fox. No, he's like

657
00:42:40.480 --> 00:42:45.559
wrapped in like carpet car like like
you can barely drop his arms down.

658
00:42:45.599 --> 00:42:47.440
And they start pushing him around in
the huddle, and they except accidentally pushed

659
00:42:47.480 --> 00:42:52.440
him against the goalpost, so he
slaps his face, and then we see

660
00:42:52.440 --> 00:42:53.960
that the town elders are betting over
the game, Like, oh yeah,

661
00:42:54.079 --> 00:42:58.400
they're they're all getting in on this, you say, town elders, Like

662
00:42:58.440 --> 00:43:01.280
they're sitting in robes going like what
will happen? They're just old guys or

663
00:43:01.400 --> 00:43:04.760
Orvil and Wilber. I think are
their names of them not mistaken? No

664
00:43:04.920 --> 00:43:10.639
way, hilarious what it is?
Orville and Wilbur Orville and Wilbur. I

665
00:43:10.679 --> 00:43:15.119
mean they're in Ohio? Why not? Why not? So they're betting on

666
00:43:15.159 --> 00:43:16.360
the game, and the kids try
to practice a huddle and they get into

667
00:43:16.360 --> 00:43:20.880
a big fight. Junior throws the
icebox, who finally catches a ball,

668
00:43:20.920 --> 00:43:23.000
and Danny has them then switched from
throwing the football to tp to get them

669
00:43:23.039 --> 00:43:27.159
to practice catching because it actually takes
off really well, and every kid starts

670
00:43:27.199 --> 00:43:29.800
catching the TP roll. Yeah,
they're less afraid of the roll of toilet

671
00:43:29.880 --> 00:43:32.079
paper. Yeah, so Icebox keeps
tackling Junior and we can kind of see

672
00:43:32.079 --> 00:43:35.719
their flirting a little bit. Well
for the record, real quick, Yeah,

673
00:43:35.880 --> 00:43:37.079
it's amateur hour. Oh yeah,
no, no, no, no,

674
00:43:37.079 --> 00:43:40.360
no, to throw the TP to
teach them to catch because they're not

675
00:43:40.360 --> 00:43:45.599
afraid of the TP. Yeah,
that's totally not a wise way to do

676
00:43:45.639 --> 00:43:47.119
it. What you do is you
send the kids home and tell them they

677
00:43:47.119 --> 00:43:51.039
have to wipe their asses with a
foototball. Well, that's the joke is

678
00:43:51.079 --> 00:43:54.039
because the yeah he hands the football, just put this in the back and

679
00:43:57.440 --> 00:44:00.239
no, it's it's really cute that
they're like catching t It's super cute.

680
00:44:00.440 --> 00:44:04.679
So we see Kevin trading his team
at home and Karen, his wife,

681
00:44:04.800 --> 00:44:07.960
is standing in front of a window
holding a couch cushion that has a cardboard

682
00:44:07.960 --> 00:44:09.840
football player on it, and the
kids are just not nailing this at all,

683
00:44:10.079 --> 00:44:14.000
So Kevin decides that he's going to
show them how it's done. Scares

684
00:44:14.079 --> 00:44:15.800
Karen as he starts charging at her
in one of the funniest scenes. We

685
00:44:15.840 --> 00:44:22.280
see O'Neill grab the cushion, go
through the window, revealing steps side yeah,

686
00:44:22.440 --> 00:44:24.239
steps Aside grabs the cushion, goes
through the window, revealing they're on

687
00:44:24.280 --> 00:44:29.239
the second floor, which they're in
a living room. Why is their living

688
00:44:29.320 --> 00:44:31.880
room on the second floor. I
guess it's a den or something falls on

689
00:44:31.920 --> 00:44:35.840
a tree. Ranch bags himself and
then falls into a swimming and do an

690
00:44:35.880 --> 00:44:38.239
above ground pool right outside. Yeah, the moment he went through the window

691
00:44:38.320 --> 00:44:42.519
was like second floor. Yeah.
Yeah, it's very very funny. So

692
00:44:42.639 --> 00:44:45.000
at Danny's he introduces the little giants
to all their parents. As they're showing

693
00:44:45.039 --> 00:44:47.800
off they've got, you know,
they're doing their thing and showing that.

694
00:44:47.840 --> 00:44:52.760
The whole team and all the parents
are celebrate and recording, and Junior goes

695
00:44:52.760 --> 00:44:54.960
to leave with his mom, and
as Patty goes to thank him, we

696
00:44:55.039 --> 00:44:58.400
kind of get to see that Moranas
may or may not make a move on

697
00:44:58.480 --> 00:45:04.000
Patty sometime. Ah. Oh yeah. So it Kevin's his family is repeatedly

698
00:45:04.000 --> 00:45:07.000
watching the video of him going out
the window because they were recording that as

699
00:45:07.000 --> 00:45:08.800
it happened. Oh yeah, They're
like, I can't wait for Bob Saget

700
00:45:08.840 --> 00:45:14.480
to voice over this, and that's
when his daughter Debbie tells him that it's

701
00:45:14.519 --> 00:45:16.880
not just the misfits because Junior is
now on the team and he's got an

702
00:45:17.000 --> 00:45:21.679
arm, yes he does, and
a lot of other body parts that the

703
00:45:21.719 --> 00:45:25.039
girls seem to be crazy about.
So we see Kevin and his assistant Butts,

704
00:45:25.119 --> 00:45:29.280
spying on the little Giants as Nubie
informs him they've got spies. So

705
00:45:29.320 --> 00:45:31.360
then Rick moranis and one of the
kids go over to a phone and Mirana's

706
00:45:31.400 --> 00:45:36.400
fakes calling as an eighty six year
old woman who is reporting guys spying on

707
00:45:36.519 --> 00:45:39.239
children in just the under y yeah
with no pants all. It's very funny

708
00:45:39.599 --> 00:45:44.000
as she does as he's he's going
like they're been watching. Yes, one

709
00:45:44.039 --> 00:45:49.519
of the youngest kids go, eh, come. So it's so good and

710
00:45:49.559 --> 00:45:52.840
the only part that's unrealistic is they
didn't get shot. I didn't get shot

711
00:45:52.679 --> 00:45:55.400
that way. The cops sworn them. And then we see a newspaper that

712
00:45:55.440 --> 00:46:00.440
says state local hero rested and Karen
jokes with Kevin that you know, I

713
00:46:00.440 --> 00:46:02.920
didn't know I was dating such a
hardened criminal and that everything's going crazy right

714
00:46:02.920 --> 00:46:06.280
now, you know, reminding him
this all could be avoided if he just

715
00:46:06.280 --> 00:46:08.920
would have formed one team, just
one team, to rule them all.

716
00:46:09.159 --> 00:46:13.119
And that's when Kevin tell us,
there there's no fun now, this is

717
00:46:13.199 --> 00:46:25.559
war. Do you Even? Movie? Will be right back, welcome back

718
00:46:25.639 --> 00:46:34.320
to Do You Even? Movie?
I hope they all learn a valuable lesson,

719
00:46:34.400 --> 00:46:36.960
But what are the odds they would? Who would say? You know?

720
00:46:37.440 --> 00:46:39.239
We see he stepped up the training
for the Cowboys, and Danny's doing

721
00:46:39.280 --> 00:46:43.400
the same with the Giants. Jake
makes it across the monkey bars finally and

722
00:46:43.440 --> 00:46:45.320
gets a huge round of applause on
the entire team. They pick him up

723
00:46:45.320 --> 00:46:50.400
and then end up dropping him accidentally. The Giants have a car wash to

724
00:46:50.480 --> 00:46:53.000
raise money for the new uniforms,
and Butts rolls up trying to intimidate them,

725
00:46:53.119 --> 00:46:55.639
and Rick Brandon saint playing with that, so he just has the team

726
00:46:55.719 --> 00:47:00.440
douche him with water. Well,
first of all, he pulled up and

727
00:47:00.480 --> 00:47:04.679
basically says like, these kids are
worthless. Yep, these kids are so

728
00:47:04.840 --> 00:47:07.880
bad. If I was a mother
duck, I would be drown. I

729
00:47:07.880 --> 00:47:10.800
would lead them to water and drown
them. So his response is like,

730
00:47:12.000 --> 00:47:15.880
you deserve a free car wash,
and they just start spraying him and dowsing

731
00:47:15.920 --> 00:47:20.880
him. But at that point there's
an issue, which is Ed O'Neil's character's

732
00:47:21.000 --> 00:47:23.639
daughter, who is a cute,
blonde cheerleader of the same age as everybody

733
00:47:23.679 --> 00:47:29.280
else, is now talking to the
Devin Sawa character and they're flirting and stuff

734
00:47:29.320 --> 00:47:32.000
because ice Box obviously doesn't really understand
how to flirt. Nope, she's kind

735
00:47:32.000 --> 00:47:37.400
of at odds with the idea that
she's a girl the femininity element, so

736
00:47:37.440 --> 00:47:39.719
she's like, Icebox doesn't get crushes. But then he walks by and she's

737
00:47:39.719 --> 00:47:43.199
like, whoo, well, and
they've been flirting a little bit in practice,

738
00:47:43.199 --> 00:47:46.199
and they flirt a little bit the
car wash care and then Debbie starts

739
00:47:46.199 --> 00:47:49.519
and goes talk to him, and
she sees it like they have they have

740
00:47:49.519 --> 00:47:52.239
attraction basically, well yeah, yeah, I mean they're flirting a little bit,

741
00:47:52.360 --> 00:47:55.480
you know. It's so now she's
feeling the big green monster. Well,

742
00:47:55.519 --> 00:47:59.760
and she also is wearing the cheerleader
uniform that she got for the game

743
00:48:00.039 --> 00:48:02.519
for the Cowboys. Yes, yes, because she's gonna cheer for her dad's

744
00:48:02.559 --> 00:48:06.360
team, of course. So Becky
watches her flowerd junior. We see Becky

745
00:48:06.400 --> 00:48:08.400
putting on makeup and practicing a cheer
before she's caught by her dad and she

746
00:48:08.480 --> 00:48:10.000
said, and he's like, you
know, are you wearing makeup? But

747
00:48:10.039 --> 00:48:15.119
she's like, no, cherry,
cherry. And that's when Orville and Wilbur

748
00:48:15.199 --> 00:48:19.920
called Danny and Kevin both simultaneously and
tell them that a new family moved in

749
00:48:19.960 --> 00:48:22.440
the Hammersmith's and they've got a kid
that is built for their team. But

750
00:48:22.559 --> 00:48:25.719
they're basically pitting them against each other
to see who's gonna get this kid first.

751
00:48:25.760 --> 00:48:29.920
It's basically terminator too. It's just
a question of who would reach him

752
00:48:29.960 --> 00:48:35.719
first. So we see Danny and
Kevin leave and we have Danny driving,

753
00:48:35.800 --> 00:48:38.519
of course, the go kart and
Kevin's in his nice corvette and they pull

754
00:48:38.559 --> 00:48:40.599
it beside each other to stop light. They start going and he's like,

755
00:48:40.639 --> 00:48:44.199
wait, are you following me?
No? Are you following me? No?

756
00:48:44.360 --> 00:48:46.440
And then that's when they realize that
they are racing. It should be

757
00:48:46.480 --> 00:48:50.400
mentioned Miranason ed O'Neil have really good
chemistry. No, they really do.

758
00:48:50.440 --> 00:48:53.280
And Miranda. I love Mirandas in
this role because like, even though he

759
00:48:53.400 --> 00:48:57.760
is like the leader of the ragtags, like he he doesn't mess around like

760
00:48:57.800 --> 00:49:00.599
he he wants to support these kids
and also will stand up for them.

761
00:49:00.719 --> 00:49:04.039
Right, No, no, no, it's it's definitely. But the movie

762
00:49:04.199 --> 00:49:08.719
is is as as much as it
has a sweet kind of family message,

763
00:49:09.280 --> 00:49:14.119
the movie's really about how adults live
through children. This is true, and

764
00:49:14.159 --> 00:49:16.880
it's kind of sad, is all
because moranis is doing the same thing.

765
00:49:17.079 --> 00:49:21.199
Yeah, the reason he's fighting for
these kids is he's actually standing up for

766
00:49:21.280 --> 00:49:22.559
himself. When he was eight years
old, he wants to show off his

767
00:49:22.599 --> 00:49:25.480
brother. Yeah, which is a
little sad. I mean, did you

768
00:49:25.480 --> 00:49:31.280
so when you played sports? I
mean did you were your parents like really

769
00:49:31.320 --> 00:49:37.239
into you playing or no? So, my my parents were into me playing.

770
00:49:37.239 --> 00:49:39.800
But Erica, my sister, was
the was the sports nut in the

771
00:49:39.800 --> 00:49:44.599
family. Basically, like she played
basketball in high school and played soccer in

772
00:49:44.639 --> 00:49:47.880
high school and all that stuff.
And my mom has possibly may or may

773
00:49:47.880 --> 00:49:52.400
not have been ejected from a game
because of her excitement. We'll call it

774
00:49:53.079 --> 00:49:59.199
drunkenness, not drunkenness. No,
but she's she's gotten very very close to

775
00:49:59.239 --> 00:50:01.239
being ejected from a basketball game and
a soccer game if I remember correctly.

776
00:50:01.320 --> 00:50:07.000
Well, that answers that. So
Danny and Kevin are now racing, and

777
00:50:07.039 --> 00:50:12.880
we we end the race in front
of an oncoming train that the Corvette gets

778
00:50:12.880 --> 00:50:15.719
stopped by. And then Rick Brandis
goes right in front of the train and

779
00:50:15.760 --> 00:50:16.960
like misses it by us because he's
in a go cart. Ye. So

780
00:50:16.960 --> 00:50:22.760
he's got the he's got the maneuverability
advantage. Yeah. So Danny arrives at

781
00:50:22.760 --> 00:50:25.719
the Hammersmith's and Mike the dad,
introduces Danny to Spike, but Mike is

782
00:50:25.760 --> 00:50:30.639
also thinking that Danny is Kevin,
like he actually talks about the Heisman POS

783
00:50:30.679 --> 00:50:32.440
and talks about the billboard POS and
all this stuff, and that's when he

784
00:50:32.440 --> 00:50:36.840
introduces him to Spike and were met. We meet Spike by Spike coming out

785
00:50:36.840 --> 00:50:38.760
of a moving truck carrying a fridge
on his back. Yes. And this

786
00:50:38.880 --> 00:50:44.480
kid is built like a brick shit
house. Yeah. And he talks about

787
00:50:44.480 --> 00:50:47.920
how he's been how the kid has
been headbutting a football since he was four

788
00:50:47.920 --> 00:50:51.880
months old, laying on the ground
and did a pull up at a one

789
00:50:51.960 --> 00:50:54.079
month old or something like that.
No, that was like like like fourteen

790
00:50:54.119 --> 00:50:59.480
months. And then he puts his
arm over it and the kid does pull

791
00:50:59.519 --> 00:51:01.480
up on our arm. Yeah.
Yeah, and the kid is just like

792
00:51:02.039 --> 00:51:06.400
made of meat yea, and my
favorite sideline is when he leans into the

793
00:51:06.400 --> 00:51:10.639
coach and he goes I massage is
Achilles tendons every night with with with evaporated

794
00:51:10.639 --> 00:51:16.800
milk. That just that freaking killed
me with evaporated milk is so funny.

795
00:51:16.880 --> 00:51:21.719
So Danny welcome Spike to the Giants, and Spike says that I'm in pee

796
00:51:21.760 --> 00:51:24.039
wee hell Spike's and pee wee hell. Because Spike loves to talk of the

797
00:51:24.039 --> 00:51:28.320
third person when we first meet him, Yes, he is very in many

798
00:51:28.320 --> 00:51:32.519
ways. He is like the Queen
of England. So it gets worse because

799
00:51:32.800 --> 00:51:37.000
Icebox introduced yourself and Spike says,
you know, Spike doesn't play with girls,

800
00:51:37.599 --> 00:51:40.719
especially a Berzerco Barbie girl. Yeah, I like it, calls her

801
00:51:40.880 --> 00:51:45.159
Berserko Barbie doll. And Becky isn't
pleased with this, and she basically sees

802
00:51:45.199 --> 00:51:47.639
that her dad is bringing Spike on
the team so they can win. And

803
00:51:47.679 --> 00:51:51.400
now it's not so much about you
know, them just having fun. He's

804
00:51:51.440 --> 00:51:53.440
there, and it's not about them
getting to play. It's now about whoever

805
00:51:53.480 --> 00:51:57.519
we get as long as they win. Yeah, and that does that kills

806
00:51:57.559 --> 00:52:00.800
the spirit of the little Giants.
Yes, So now she's had enough.

807
00:52:00.840 --> 00:52:04.679
She goes off to the to a
diner yep, where she's sitting by herself,

808
00:52:04.880 --> 00:52:07.280
not eating her food that's sitting in
front of her Nope. And then

809
00:52:07.320 --> 00:52:09.480
her uncle comes in. Kevin comes
in. He tries to tell her,

810
00:52:09.519 --> 00:52:13.039
you know, be easy on your
dad. You know, he's trying to

811
00:52:13.039 --> 00:52:16.960
do what's best at everything, and
she's just not really buying into his philosophy

812
00:52:17.000 --> 00:52:21.039
at this point because she knows that
it's literally just about them too. And

813
00:52:21.079 --> 00:52:24.280
that's when she decides to ask him, you know, does does Debbie like

814
00:52:24.480 --> 00:52:28.480
Junior? And he's like, well, what do you think? And that's

815
00:52:28.519 --> 00:52:30.559
when Icebox ask, as Kevin's leaving, you know, do you think I'm

816
00:52:30.559 --> 00:52:37.960
pretty had the joke about yeah,
because he goes no, and we were

817
00:52:37.000 --> 00:52:39.800
like, what have you just left? But no, then he turns around.

818
00:52:39.800 --> 00:52:43.199
It's a nice moment though. He
turns around. He says you're beautiful,

819
00:52:43.239 --> 00:52:45.840
You're beautiful, which is a very
sweet moment. And they establish a

820
00:52:45.880 --> 00:52:52.159
few times that while there is a
silly rivalry that his family, I mean

821
00:52:52.159 --> 00:52:54.400
that they are a family. Yeah. She spends time at her uncle's house

822
00:52:54.519 --> 00:52:59.119
and stuff like that. Uh,
you know, no, mother, because

823
00:52:59.519 --> 00:53:01.800
Marianna is just really blew it but
well. And I think also one of

824
00:53:01.840 --> 00:53:05.079
the things in this scene I love
is that, you know, he he

825
00:53:05.159 --> 00:53:07.119
breaks it down to her. I
mean he's trying to get her off the

826
00:53:07.159 --> 00:53:09.239
team. In my opinion for this
scene being manipulate in a little bit.

827
00:53:09.400 --> 00:53:14.920
But I think the reason he's so
good at is I think he legitimately believes

828
00:53:15.840 --> 00:53:19.760
that she's better off not playing football. Yeah, because that's what she says.

829
00:53:19.760 --> 00:53:21.679
The thing about Debbie, you know, is Debbie interested in Junior?

830
00:53:21.719 --> 00:53:23.400
What do you think? And He's
like, you know, Junior's a guy.

831
00:53:23.400 --> 00:53:25.800
He's not interested in somebody that he
plays sports, but he's not interested

832
00:53:25.800 --> 00:53:29.519
in a teammates team is interested in
a cute girl, a cute girl,

833
00:53:29.559 --> 00:53:34.599
maybe a cheerleader. So Kevin tells
Junior that she's oh my god, I

834
00:53:34.679 --> 00:53:37.840
lost my place. Yeah. Kevin
tells her that Junior is gonna want some

835
00:53:37.920 --> 00:53:39.440
acute girl, not his teammate.
And at the Giants practice the next day,

836
00:53:39.480 --> 00:53:43.960
Spike is just causing havoc, but
it's interrupted as Mike his dad rolls

837
00:53:44.079 --> 00:53:46.559
up with Kevin telling Spike that he's
a cowboy now because they figured out that

838
00:53:46.599 --> 00:53:50.800
he completely swiddled him, and even
Mike confronts him and he's like, hey,

839
00:53:50.880 --> 00:53:52.079
you know, did you think he
pulled a fastball on me? And

840
00:53:52.119 --> 00:53:54.360
Miranda's like, hey, I said
I was coach. O'Shea, I never

841
00:53:54.400 --> 00:53:59.440
said I was my brother. Yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, I

842
00:53:59.719 --> 00:54:02.119
mean that might hold up in some
courts. Yeah. So the Giants start

843
00:54:02.159 --> 00:54:06.639
fighting because Junior goes to quit because
they all think the junior is the highlight

844
00:54:06.679 --> 00:54:08.159
of the team, and Icebox gets
called out for flirting with Junior, and

845
00:54:08.199 --> 00:54:10.840
now she leaves the team as well, and then the team just leaves practice.

846
00:54:10.880 --> 00:54:14.840
So everybody leaves practice, leaving Moranus
in the middle of the field,

847
00:54:15.119 --> 00:54:16.480
and that's when we see one of
the Giants riding home on his bike in

848
00:54:16.679 --> 00:54:22.280
a bus rolls past him and off
the bus steps John Madden. Here's the

849
00:54:22.360 --> 00:54:24.880
guy who when he puts his contact
lenses and he can see better. And

850
00:54:24.920 --> 00:54:28.719
the best thing is is that they
do the classic John Madden because he pulls

851
00:54:28.719 --> 00:54:30.440
out a map and he's like,
hey, kid, you know, we

852
00:54:30.440 --> 00:54:31.840
were right here and then we went
right here, and then we were we

853
00:54:31.880 --> 00:54:36.119
need to hit Canton, and we
got to hit Canton hard. Boom boom.

854
00:54:36.320 --> 00:54:37.960
And so that's when they reveal that
not only is John Madden on this

855
00:54:38.000 --> 00:54:42.280
bus, but Steve Ventman, Bruce
Smith, Emmitt Smith, and Tim Brown

856
00:54:42.400 --> 00:54:45.719
former players of the NFL. And
we see the players now helping the kids

857
00:54:45.719 --> 00:54:49.000
find their confidence. They're showing them
how to do intimidation. They're going over

858
00:54:49.039 --> 00:54:52.400
the plays, but not a single
Super Bowl shuffle, not a singer super

859
00:54:52.440 --> 00:55:00.119
Bowl shuffle, A god disappointing.
And that's when we see Nudia revealed that

860
00:55:00.159 --> 00:55:04.519
he has a play called the Annexation
of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico White Boy,

861
00:55:05.239 --> 00:55:07.320
and Madden and him are going over
it and he's like, it's actually

862
00:55:07.360 --> 00:55:08.639
your play. I just changed this
and this, and then Madden goes like,

863
00:55:08.679 --> 00:55:10.639
what have you changed this in this? And he's like I thought of

864
00:55:10.679 --> 00:55:15.960
that. It's really a cute thing. And the football players like trying to

865
00:55:16.079 --> 00:55:21.519
encourage the kids to intimidate and to
try to tackle them because I made that

866
00:55:21.599 --> 00:55:23.800
joke when the kids all run at
one of the football players and knock him

867
00:55:23.800 --> 00:55:25.599
down. I made that joke.
Ber I was like, oh my quad

868
00:55:27.400 --> 00:55:30.480
quad. It's just like, well, that career is over. And Madden

869
00:55:30.559 --> 00:55:31.719
ends by saying because Rams goes me, He's like, you know, do

870
00:55:31.760 --> 00:55:35.039
you have any advice and he's like, you know, just go out and

871
00:55:35.039 --> 00:55:37.199
give it your best, reminding them
that they're a team. They're like a

872
00:55:37.239 --> 00:55:39.199
family, except you have to hit
each other. His first thing when he

873
00:55:39.199 --> 00:55:42.519
said you have any advices, he
just says, good luck. Good luck.

874
00:55:42.679 --> 00:55:45.000
He's like, that's it, and
he's like, all you can do

875
00:55:45.079 --> 00:55:47.599
is go out there and give your
best. Yeah, you're all you know.

876
00:55:47.840 --> 00:55:52.679
The music crescendos and then boom,
tough act interacting so good. So

877
00:55:52.719 --> 00:55:55.920
the Giants are reunited now, and
we see Kevin talking to his team and

878
00:55:55.960 --> 00:55:59.760
getting them ready for the big day
tomorrow. Meanwhile, on the river bank

879
00:55:59.800 --> 00:56:01.519
back he is watching a young couple
kiss out in the boat, and Junior

880
00:56:01.679 --> 00:56:05.760
rolls up commenting on, oh man, that's so disgusting, and they get

881
00:56:05.800 --> 00:56:07.960
into a little cute conversation about kissing, and Becky says, you know,

882
00:56:07.960 --> 00:56:12.880
there's got to be passion, like
Kevin Costner and Robin Hood right saying Robinood

883
00:56:12.880 --> 00:56:16.440
Prince of Thieves, which made us
both lose art. It's not often in

884
00:56:16.599 --> 00:56:20.920
any feature, yeah that you hear
someone say, you know, like in

885
00:56:21.079 --> 00:56:24.199
Robinhood Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner, you just don't hear that no.

886
00:56:24.320 --> 00:56:27.840
So Becky tells Junior that she wants
to learn how to kiss, and Junior

887
00:56:27.880 --> 00:56:30.880
is a bit weird about and you
know, he goes through you know what

888
00:56:30.239 --> 00:56:32.559
when he wants to learn, but
he doesn't know who he wants to learn

889
00:56:32.920 --> 00:56:36.599
how to kiss and who to kiss
with. But he tells Icebox that she's

890
00:56:36.599 --> 00:56:37.840
the coolest, not the cheerleader type, and then he's happy to have her

891
00:56:37.880 --> 00:56:42.239
on the team. Yep, so
she blew it. She blew it and

892
00:56:42.480 --> 00:56:44.840
the only type of could feet up
his dad. I do love that line.

893
00:56:44.960 --> 00:56:46.559
Oh yeah, no, that's good
stuff. That's good stuff. We

894
00:56:46.599 --> 00:56:50.719
see Becky go to Kevin's house asking
if Karen is home. He welcomes her

895
00:56:50.719 --> 00:56:52.639
in, and then we see Icebox
turning home and she goes to Danny,

896
00:56:52.679 --> 00:56:55.559
who is practicing his calls in the
mirror, like calling out to the ref

897
00:56:55.679 --> 00:57:01.239
like you call that a call.
He's literally rehearsing like really angry arguments with

898
00:57:01.320 --> 00:57:05.519
the referee, like like I said, how about I take you off the

899
00:57:05.519 --> 00:57:08.719
field and stuff. It's like it's
really cute and fun. So Becky comes

900
00:57:08.719 --> 00:57:12.880
in carrying a box and Danny wants
to know what's in it, and that's

901
00:57:13.559 --> 00:57:16.000
that upsets Becky too when he calls
her He's Little full Back because Becky tells

902
00:57:16.079 --> 00:57:19.559
him that she remembers how her mom
used to call her a little princess and

903
00:57:19.599 --> 00:57:22.079
rapp her in a blanket, And
this kind of takes Danny by a back

904
00:57:22.079 --> 00:57:24.039
a bit because he's like, you
remember that, and she's like, yeah,

905
00:57:24.039 --> 00:57:27.599
I do. And Becky tells him
that she's not gonna play the game

906
00:57:27.639 --> 00:57:30.800
tomorrow. Well, she basically makes
the decision, which is bizarre, like

907
00:57:31.039 --> 00:57:35.000
but it makes sense. I don't
think it's bad writing, but she basically

908
00:57:35.079 --> 00:57:38.440
makes the decision that that now he's
the reason she's playing, and he's the

909
00:57:38.440 --> 00:57:42.320
reason she's been growing up like a
boy. Yeah, and she should be

910
00:57:42.440 --> 00:57:45.400
this way instead. So she's kind
of just shifting all the blame onto him

911
00:57:45.400 --> 00:57:49.480
because she's mad at him, and
she's mad that she's not getting the guy

912
00:57:49.559 --> 00:57:52.119
that she wants. She's all I
mean, she's basically from the beginning you

913
00:57:52.199 --> 00:57:55.239
have to feel for her. From
the beginning of the film, Ice Box

914
00:57:55.320 --> 00:57:59.960
is getting nothing she wants. She
doesn't make the team her mom has gone

915
00:58:00.039 --> 00:58:02.760
on, and now she she forms
her own team. Her dad kind of

916
00:58:02.800 --> 00:58:07.079
takes us, takes it away from
her, she meets a guy another girl,

917
00:58:07.159 --> 00:58:10.920
get I really ice box is really
like a tragic character. She is

918
00:58:12.079 --> 00:58:14.760
for a child, for a child, it's a pretty sad character for a

919
00:58:14.840 --> 00:58:16.159
kids movie. Well, and the
scene wraps up because she says, you

920
00:58:16.159 --> 00:58:19.280
know, the game means everything in
the world to you, but I don't

921
00:58:19.320 --> 00:58:22.280
mean anything to you. She throws
the box down, revealing a cheerleader outfit

922
00:58:22.320 --> 00:58:24.320
with pom pom. So she has
completely quit the team at this point and

923
00:58:24.360 --> 00:58:30.159
decided to become a cheerleader. And
in typical sports movie fashion, they assume

924
00:58:30.199 --> 00:58:32.280
you could just be a cheerleader the
next day for the first time. It

925
00:58:32.360 --> 00:58:37.280
must be that easy cheer If anybody
out there's a cheerleader, what you do

926
00:58:37.360 --> 00:58:40.519
is that easy. So the night
before the big game, we see all

927
00:58:40.559 --> 00:58:44.679
the giants practicing their intimidation. There's
one arm pull ups, which we reveal

928
00:58:44.719 --> 00:58:49.880
that one of the kids is standing
on a box with a trash can upside

929
00:58:49.880 --> 00:58:53.039
down on top of it high enough. So one kid is getting tucked into

930
00:58:53.039 --> 00:58:54.679
bed and his dad's like, you
know, don't think about the game tomorrow,

931
00:58:54.719 --> 00:58:58.280
and he's got his cleats on.
Yeah yeah. He pulls his blanket

932
00:58:58.320 --> 00:59:01.679
up and reveals dirty cleats, And
we also see that Johnny's dad is unfortunately

933
00:59:01.760 --> 00:59:05.440
gonna be leaving and he's gonna miss
the game, so Johnny is gonna be

934
00:59:05.440 --> 00:59:07.679
playing with no one there to watch
it. Well, And one thing I

935
00:59:07.719 --> 00:59:12.960
picked up from Johnny is that he's
not telling his dad any of the stuff

936
00:59:12.960 --> 00:59:15.440
because he just assumes, like,
no matter what, his dad's just gonna

937
00:59:15.480 --> 00:59:20.000
leave anyway, so what does it
matter, which is very sad. The

938
00:59:20.079 --> 00:59:23.000
Johnny character really does like punch my
heart strings pretty hard. Yeah, I

939
00:59:23.039 --> 00:59:27.679
spend a lot of time alone as
a kid. I get it, so

940
00:59:27.840 --> 00:59:31.239
it like it definitely like kind of
hit me hard now even as a kid,

941
00:59:31.320 --> 00:59:34.960
it hit me pretty hard. Totally
understand. And let's not forget the

942
00:59:34.960 --> 00:59:37.039
weirdest moment of this. The cops
say good night to the town. Yeah,

943
00:59:37.159 --> 00:59:40.159
the police are driving through the neighborhood
over there last week, They're like,

944
00:59:40.159 --> 00:59:44.079
good night everybody, good luck on
the game to both teams tomorrow,

945
00:59:44.199 --> 00:59:45.360
And all I could think was,
like do they every night? Go good

946
00:59:45.440 --> 00:59:51.599
night everybody? Remember if you break
curfew, we shoot on site. So

947
00:59:51.800 --> 00:59:54.039
game day comes now and we see
the Cowboys in their locker room as Kevin

948
00:59:54.039 --> 00:59:57.599
brings in father Kelly, a local
priest, and to say a prayer for

949
00:59:57.639 --> 01:00:00.639
their victory, but it's interrupted as
the Giants just start taunting them from the

950
01:00:00.679 --> 01:00:04.800
other locker room. Through the events
and they're training the Giants, they're they're

951
01:00:04.880 --> 01:00:07.760
taunting Spike, and of course Spike
is like his dad's like holding him back

952
01:00:07.800 --> 01:00:12.800
like a rapid beast. No,
he's he's literally holding him back like like

953
01:00:12.840 --> 01:00:16.320
a rott Wilier that's been tormented.
And so Danny comes in with their new

954
01:00:16.400 --> 01:00:21.119
uniforms. Icebox enters then in full
cheerleader attire, wishing them a great game.

955
01:00:21.159 --> 01:00:23.119
As the team then realizes that they're
that She's not gonna be playing,

956
01:00:23.159 --> 01:00:25.920
and they all start to say that
they're gonna die with that Icebox out there,

957
01:00:27.039 --> 01:00:30.719
and it makes sense they probably will
die. Probably at least you know

958
01:00:30.880 --> 01:00:36.960
that the local police care. Both
teams have a great time. Everybody have

959
01:00:37.039 --> 01:00:40.840
a good game. Remember we shoot
on site. If you break curfew,

960
01:00:42.519 --> 01:00:54.840
Thank you? Do You Even?
Movie will be right back. Welcome back

961
01:00:54.880 --> 01:01:04.679
to Do You Even? Movie.
So at this point, Danny then decides

962
01:01:04.679 --> 01:01:07.360
to break the tension and show them
their uniforms, but the Giants still run

963
01:01:07.400 --> 01:01:10.280
into it because one of my favorite
lines from a jake at that point is

964
01:01:10.360 --> 01:01:15.840
he says the thing in regards to
he says the thing in regards to oh

965
01:01:15.880 --> 01:01:19.239
Man. So now we have ways
so that they can identify our bodies.

966
01:01:20.639 --> 01:01:23.840
The names on their jerseys will let
them identify their bodies as very good dark

967
01:01:24.320 --> 01:01:29.039
Right. So both teams take the
field, and we see the Cowboys rip

968
01:01:29.079 --> 01:01:30.760
through their sign and they take the
field. And then the Giants do not

969
01:01:30.840 --> 01:01:34.840
rip through their sign. No,
they bash into it and all fall over

970
01:01:34.960 --> 01:01:37.800
on top of each other. Which
I just imagine that they forgot, you

971
01:01:37.800 --> 01:01:42.159
should score the sign, you know, put little rips into it. Have

972
01:01:42.280 --> 01:01:45.000
you ever seen the clip that was
on Tosh point zero of the cheerleader that

973
01:01:45.119 --> 01:01:49.519
was she was rolling out the sign
and gets completely like trampled by the football

974
01:01:49.519 --> 01:01:52.519
team as they go out. No, but I'm not surprised. Yeah,

975
01:01:52.559 --> 01:01:55.639
no, it's bad. So both
teams take the field. Now Danny and

976
01:01:55.679 --> 01:01:59.280
Kevin get into a fight as they're
doing the coin toss, and that goes

977
01:01:59.320 --> 01:02:01.840
onto the mic because they have the
mic out there, and somehow, one

978
01:02:01.840 --> 01:02:06.280
way or another, the gas station
gets pitted against the dealership and winner takes

979
01:02:06.440 --> 01:02:10.280
all. Yeah, so now they're
they're involving like severe all steaks gambling.

980
01:02:10.400 --> 01:02:14.960
Yeah, as if there wasn't enough
pressure on these poor kids. So the

981
01:02:14.960 --> 01:02:16.840
Giants start by kicking off to the
Cowboys. The kick is blown as the

982
01:02:16.840 --> 01:02:20.920
ball gets possessed by the Cowboys in
no time, and all the kids hold

983
01:02:20.920 --> 01:02:22.880
onto Spike, but he is no
match, getting a touchdown and knocking him

984
01:02:23.000 --> 01:02:25.360
all the way back. One of
the kids all the way back to second

985
01:02:25.400 --> 01:02:29.159
crank because he wakes up and he's
like, did I pass the test,

986
01:02:29.159 --> 01:02:30.039
miss Sterling? And then one of
the kids, Oh my god, they

987
01:02:30.119 --> 01:02:34.840
knocked him back to the second grade. Yeah, and he's like dented into

988
01:02:34.880 --> 01:02:37.000
the ground. There's like a body
shaped hole in the ground. So now

989
01:02:37.000 --> 01:02:40.000
it's seven zero on the scoreboard with
the Cowboys leading. We see the Giants

990
01:02:40.039 --> 01:02:44.159
in possession of the ball running a
play called three Little Pigs. Tad takes

991
01:02:44.159 --> 01:02:45.760
the ball as the Cowboys sworn him, and of course he's telling the reft

992
01:02:45.800 --> 01:02:51.000
blow the whistle, blow the whistle. Yeah. Every time they the little

993
01:02:51.079 --> 01:02:53.119
Jazz get the ball, there literally
running for their lives they are. So

994
01:02:53.239 --> 01:02:57.400
Spike scores another touchdown. It's now
fourteen to a zero with the Cowboys.

995
01:02:57.519 --> 01:03:00.440
One of the Giants tries to put
tar on his hands to catch the but

996
01:03:00.599 --> 01:03:02.519
he goes to clap his hands at
the end of the huddle stick and his

997
01:03:02.559 --> 01:03:07.559
hands stick together, so now he
can't catch anything. He gets tackled and

998
01:03:07.960 --> 01:03:09.719
he's laying down there. He's like
trying to get his hands up and they're

999
01:03:09.760 --> 01:03:14.599
still stuck. So halftime it's now
twenty one to know. The Giants then

1000
01:03:14.599 --> 01:03:16.519
marched in the locker room and they're
defeated. So Kevin goes to Danny and

1001
01:03:16.519 --> 01:03:19.239
he's like, you know, let's
let's call the game off, like the

1002
01:03:19.280 --> 01:03:21.639
kids have had enough, and Danny
tells him, hey, it's not over

1003
01:03:21.719 --> 01:03:23.519
yet. So the Giants tell Danny
in the locker room that they do not

1004
01:03:23.559 --> 01:03:25.599
want to continue. Some of them
want to be put on the injured list,

1005
01:03:25.599 --> 01:03:29.079
some of them want to forfeit,
and Danny tells them that, you

1006
01:03:29.079 --> 01:03:31.760
know what, you guys belong out
there because I belong out there with my

1007
01:03:31.800 --> 01:03:36.159
brother, just like you guys belong
out there playing to and he goes on

1008
01:03:36.199 --> 01:03:38.639
to tell them that one time is
all it takes for something special to happen,

1009
01:03:38.679 --> 01:03:42.199
and that's when all the kids kind
of have a really cute moment of

1010
01:03:42.239 --> 01:03:45.800
like talking about like the times that
they either outdid their older siblings or did

1011
01:03:45.840 --> 01:03:50.440
something in regards to the family that
surprised them. It's a really cute moment,

1012
01:03:50.480 --> 01:03:52.760
and that's why he's like, one
time is all that matters. One

1013
01:03:52.840 --> 01:03:58.559
injection of anabolic steroids. What is
a space champ? Yeah, So tells

1014
01:03:58.599 --> 01:04:00.280
them about one time how he beat
Kevin on his bike and that inspires the

1015
01:04:00.360 --> 01:04:03.480
kid and that they think that something
special is gonna happen now. And Danny

1016
01:04:03.480 --> 01:04:06.320
reminds them that they play football because
it's fun. It doesn't matter if they

1017
01:04:06.360 --> 01:04:12.000
win, see, and that's what
it really should be about. But at

1018
01:04:12.000 --> 01:04:15.760
the same time, victory tastes so
good, damn right, it does.

1019
01:04:15.880 --> 01:04:18.719
Vicious victory. So the Giants take
the field again, revitalize, and now

1020
01:04:18.760 --> 01:04:23.280
they're intimidating the Cowboys with possession of
the ball. The Giants gainy yard on

1021
01:04:23.320 --> 01:04:27.079
the play and Junior catches a pass, making their longest gain and they finally

1022
01:04:27.119 --> 01:04:31.159
get their first down. Yes whatever
that means. So Tad gets the ball

1023
01:04:31.199 --> 01:04:34.960
and he's running, but he stops
as a cowboy leaps as two cowboys leap

1024
01:04:35.000 --> 01:04:38.920
at him, and they turn into
all the gatoraded knock it over, which

1025
01:04:38.960 --> 01:04:41.360
one of them Spike. Of course, yeah, they like knock the whole

1026
01:04:41.400 --> 01:04:44.639
table over and everything. It's very
violent. And of course Tad stops at

1027
01:04:44.639 --> 01:04:48.079
this point, and Miranda's goes Tad
run, so he runs, scoring the

1028
01:04:48.119 --> 01:04:53.280
giants first touchdown, and Kevin turns
to find Karen celebrating in the stands and

1029
01:04:53.280 --> 01:04:55.880
then he's He's like really, and
so Karen's like, all right, I'll

1030
01:04:55.880 --> 01:04:59.639
sit down. So then the Giants
get a field goal just barely as they

1031
01:04:59.719 --> 01:05:01.880
kick the it just like inches for
the back of the field goal, like

1032
01:05:02.079 --> 01:05:05.159
hits the thing, but then goes
offs over it. So now the score

1033
01:05:05.280 --> 01:05:09.280
is seven to twenty one. The
Giants then kicked to the Cowboys and they

1034
01:05:09.320 --> 01:05:13.239
tackle the Cowboys, but Spike commits
a personal foul after the tackle and he

1035
01:05:13.239 --> 01:05:15.639
gets personal foul. Kevin then confronts
Mike's dad, telling him that if he

1036
01:05:15.639 --> 01:05:17.679
does that again, he's gonna take
Spike out of the game. And Mike's

1037
01:05:17.679 --> 01:05:19.760
like, I thought you wanted to
win this thing, and Kevin, in

1038
01:05:19.760 --> 01:05:24.800
a good moment, goes not like
that. So, as a not sports

1039
01:05:24.840 --> 01:05:29.400
person, yes he committed a personal
foul. Personal foul, I didn't see

1040
01:05:29.400 --> 01:05:34.559
a chicken. I God, so
how does that like? Is it a

1041
01:05:34.599 --> 01:05:38.519
figurative bird? It's a figure bird. We'll call it a figurative bird this

1042
01:05:38.599 --> 01:05:41.920
time. Okay, I got a
figurative bird for you later. So Kevin

1043
01:05:41.960 --> 01:05:44.559
confronts Mike, telling him if he
does that again, he's out of the

1044
01:05:44.599 --> 01:05:46.800
game. Becky, now taunted by
Spike, goes to the locker room and

1045
01:05:46.920 --> 01:05:50.519
downs her jersey and now Ice boxes
back on the field and Danny like,

1046
01:05:50.559 --> 01:05:53.679
you know, says Becky, and
she's like, call me Icebox. She

1047
01:05:53.719 --> 01:05:58.000
goes to Junior and tells him to
call her Becky. I My favorite thing

1048
01:05:58.079 --> 01:06:00.800
is that she just puts on her
jersey, so she's still in a skirt

1049
01:06:00.800 --> 01:06:05.800
in cheerlead realms, just freaking plowing
th these some bitches, which I just

1050
01:06:05.800 --> 01:06:09.400
thought was like a perfect balance of
like, nah, she's a girl,

1051
01:06:09.480 --> 01:06:12.400
she goninga whoop your button? Yeah. So Becky takes the field, tackling

1052
01:06:12.400 --> 01:06:15.440
the Cowboys and getting under spike skin. Danny notices that Johnny's dad has arrived

1053
01:06:15.440 --> 01:06:18.119
at the game, so he sets
up a personal play for him to pitch

1054
01:06:18.119 --> 01:06:21.559
the ball to Johnny, which is
hilarious because Johnny's in the huddle He's like,

1055
01:06:21.639 --> 01:06:24.599
my name is Johnny, Like dot, don't get the ball to me.

1056
01:06:24.719 --> 01:06:28.039
I'm Johnny. Wait, I'm Johnny. No. So then they get

1057
01:06:28.039 --> 01:06:30.880
the ball to Johnny and that's when
Danny tells him to run for the field

1058
01:06:30.880 --> 01:06:32.400
goal, and that's when he sees
that Johnny's dad has arrived, and he

1059
01:06:32.440 --> 01:06:35.280
sees his dad and he starts taking
off to the goalpost, and probably one

1060
01:06:35.280 --> 01:06:40.000
of the sweetest scenes of the movie, scoring a touchdown right into his father's

1061
01:06:40.079 --> 01:06:43.599
arms. And they don't establish why
his dad's there, but I'd like to

1062
01:06:43.639 --> 01:06:46.400
think that moranis called dad. It
was like, hey, tomorrow is really

1063
01:06:46.440 --> 01:06:48.840
important to your son. Did you
even know about it? He probably was

1064
01:06:48.880 --> 01:06:53.199
like, no, I'll reschedule my
flight. Yeah, That's what I like

1065
01:06:53.239 --> 01:06:56.599
to think is is why it happened. So that brings the score to fourteen

1066
01:06:56.719 --> 01:07:00.199
twenty one, and the Cowboys now
get possession and they start running the ball

1067
01:07:00.039 --> 01:07:02.599
as Jake makes a tackle after being
taunted, causing his mom to cheer.

1068
01:07:02.639 --> 01:07:05.119
And when I say his mom cheers
like she's talking to this guy, and

1069
01:07:05.159 --> 01:07:09.000
she's like, you know, our
family's just so much better since Jake started

1070
01:07:09.000 --> 01:07:12.800
playing sports. Jake makes that tackle
and she's like, yeah, get well,

1071
01:07:12.920 --> 01:07:15.840
but she's yelling mean things the way
child right, yes, child comedy

1072
01:07:15.840 --> 01:07:21.039
writers. Just so she's like rip
their ears off. So Jake makes the

1073
01:07:21.079 --> 01:07:26.119
tackle, his mom cheers, and
Jake gives the Giants alca celter, telling

1074
01:07:26.119 --> 01:07:29.760
them that it'll make them foam at
the mouth for intimidation, and boy does

1075
01:07:29.800 --> 01:07:32.079
it. Oh that's what, Like
I said, my most memorable moment is

1076
01:07:32.159 --> 01:07:35.840
when they all look like mad dogs. Yes, so they're all stacked up

1077
01:07:35.840 --> 01:07:39.159
of the play foaming at the mouth. And the next play they throw to

1078
01:07:39.199 --> 01:07:41.880
Hayman, who sees the football as
tepee as it's coming to him, and

1079
01:07:41.960 --> 01:07:45.280
like in practice, he makes the
pass, scoring another touchdown for the Giants,

1080
01:07:45.400 --> 01:07:47.400
leaving one minute and forty five seconds
left in the fourth and the score

1081
01:07:47.480 --> 01:07:53.039
is now tied twenty one to twenty
one. Yep, and that means something,

1082
01:07:53.199 --> 01:07:58.400
Yes it does. So the Cowboys
take the ball as Spike changes charges

1083
01:07:58.440 --> 01:08:00.599
the end zone nearing a touchdown,
Paddy reminds Danny of a play that Kevin

1084
01:08:00.639 --> 01:08:03.960
made in one of his championships.
So Patty, which is of course Junior's

1085
01:08:03.960 --> 01:08:06.639
mom, reminds him of a play
and that's when they realize that Kevin is

1086
01:08:06.679 --> 01:08:11.639
running a play that he had made
a winning touchdown for the championship, and

1087
01:08:11.679 --> 01:08:14.679
the Giants then all decide the game
up on Spike, revealing to Kevin that

1088
01:08:14.719 --> 01:08:16.600
they know the play that he's running, but right at the last moment,

1089
01:08:16.720 --> 01:08:19.920
Right at the last moment. So
Spike goes off of the ball and many

1090
01:08:19.960 --> 01:08:23.680
of the Giants have pursued. He
tries to dive but is slammed to the

1091
01:08:23.680 --> 01:08:27.039
ground by ice Box and it's the
Giants ball as Spike didn't make it across

1092
01:08:27.159 --> 01:08:29.880
the line, and there's four seconds
left and the game is still tied.

1093
01:08:30.319 --> 01:08:33.319
So the Giants decide that they're gonna
run the annexation of Puerto Rico about damn

1094
01:08:33.399 --> 01:08:38.159
time. They've been saying it twenty
damn times in the film, because Danny

1095
01:08:38.560 --> 01:08:40.319
tells the kids, you know,
you know, we got this game,

1096
01:08:40.359 --> 01:08:42.560
and they're like, you know what, we got four seconds left we could

1097
01:08:42.600 --> 01:08:45.439
win. So longest four seconds I've
ever seen, longest four seconds. You're

1098
01:08:45.439 --> 01:08:49.119
not wrong, I mean I know
that in football it seems like for like

1099
01:08:49.159 --> 01:08:53.399
four seconds is a long time,
yeah, because there's starts and stops and

1100
01:08:53.439 --> 01:08:57.079
starts and stops. But this is
a solid two minute four seconds, So

1101
01:08:57.199 --> 01:09:00.600
Becky fakes having the ball as they
take the line, and Spike tackles her

1102
01:09:00.680 --> 01:09:03.239
thinking that he's got it, but
she reveals that she doesn't, and that's

1103
01:09:03.239 --> 01:09:05.920
when it's a real that the Giants
are all passing the ball to each other

1104
01:09:05.960 --> 01:09:11.640
and running, and as Jake scores
the winning touchdown in the game after making

1105
01:09:11.680 --> 01:09:15.239
a pass and he catches it,
the crowd goes wild with celebration as Patty

1106
01:09:15.319 --> 01:09:16.880
even shares a kiss with Danny,
who asked her out to dinner, and

1107
01:09:16.880 --> 01:09:20.720
that's the answer he gets, ah, which means it's gonna be awkward if

1108
01:09:20.760 --> 01:09:26.079
his daughter starts dating the Sun.
Karen, Kevin's wife, leads the leads

1109
01:09:26.119 --> 01:09:28.760
a Giants chance right in front of
Kevin, who accepts it, and Danny

1110
01:09:28.800 --> 01:09:31.199
offers to have the Giants merge with
the Cowboys so they can have one town,

1111
01:09:31.359 --> 01:09:34.439
one team, and that's him with
like thirty eight kids on it,

1112
01:09:34.479 --> 01:09:36.560
and that's when Kevin's like, you
know, are you really gonna keep this

1113
01:09:36.560 --> 01:09:39.199
bet? And he's like no,
no, no, no, you know

1114
01:09:39.239 --> 01:09:42.000
I'm not gonna put my brother out. I'll start you off with this dealership

1115
01:09:42.000 --> 01:09:45.920
in a real nice position. I'll
start you off commissions only and we'll see

1116
01:09:45.920 --> 01:09:48.159
where we go from there. And
that's when Kevin asked him, you know,

1117
01:09:48.239 --> 01:09:50.079
how can we how can we end
this? How can we make this

1118
01:09:50.159 --> 01:09:53.239
okay? And he's like, you
know, there is one way and we

1119
01:09:53.279 --> 01:09:56.399
look up to the water tower where
we see Kevin o'shae on it, and

1120
01:09:56.439 --> 01:09:58.800
he's like, you know, I've
got it, And that's when it pans

1121
01:09:58.840 --> 01:10:01.319
over and we see the ocean and
that, my friends, is the Little

1122
01:10:01.359 --> 01:10:09.000
Giants from nineteen ninety four and the
choice. The only thing I really don't

1123
01:10:09.039 --> 01:10:12.399
like about this movie, although it
is very tully, is that's the end

1124
01:10:12.399 --> 01:10:14.880
of the film. That's the end
of the film. So we get almost

1125
01:10:14.920 --> 01:10:19.000
no resolution of like the kids being
happier or being or having a new friend

1126
01:10:19.000 --> 01:10:23.680
group, or like the mean kids
becoming friends with the other kids. Yeah,

1127
01:10:23.680 --> 01:10:27.279
none of that. It's just the
brothers are done fighting. Yeah.

1128
01:10:27.319 --> 01:10:30.760
So it really is just about the
adults and one hundred percent is yeah,

1129
01:10:30.760 --> 01:10:35.159
which I find extremely funny and kind
of sad. You're not wrong. So

1130
01:10:35.239 --> 01:10:39.000
as we wrap up, would you
like to know some fun facts about the

1131
01:10:39.039 --> 01:10:42.159
movie, as long as they're fun? Some of them are. So the

1132
01:10:42.159 --> 01:10:45.199
budget was estimated to be about twenty
million dollars. What this was released on

1133
01:10:45.279 --> 01:10:48.840
October sixteenth, and nineteen ninety four. What do you think it took in

1134
01:10:48.920 --> 01:10:54.920
opening weekend? What about this movie
cost twenty million dollars? Got I guess

1135
01:10:54.920 --> 01:11:00.319
the NFL players. I don't know. Twenty million the estimated budget. I

1136
01:11:00.439 --> 01:11:05.319
don't. I'm okay, I'm gonna
guess it flopped bad. So four million,

1137
01:11:06.560 --> 01:11:10.880
seven hundred and seventy eight thousand dollars
is what it grossed or what it

1138
01:11:10.920 --> 01:11:13.840
took an opening weekend. But it
did end up grossing nineteen million worldwide,

1139
01:11:13.840 --> 01:11:15.720
so it was still not a No, it's a flop. Yes, it's

1140
01:11:15.760 --> 01:11:17.399
not. Still HiT's a flop.
Yeah, that's a flop. So the

1141
01:11:17.399 --> 01:11:21.439
movie was inspired by an early nineties
McDonald's ad about pee wee football that ran

1142
01:11:21.520 --> 01:11:26.239
during the Super Bowl and I'm guessing
ninety two or ninety three the day it

1143
01:11:26.279 --> 01:11:29.279
aired. Steven Spielberg liked it so
much that he called it the ad creators

1144
01:11:29.399 --> 01:11:31.840
James Ferguson and hired him to write
the script. That explains a lot.

1145
01:11:32.199 --> 01:11:35.319
I mean about the fact that they
keep saying big Mac all the time.

1146
01:11:35.479 --> 01:11:39.399
Yeah, in quarter pounder all the
time. No, No about why they

1147
01:11:39.600 --> 01:11:42.560
like, this is only movie credit
because he was an ad person. Yeah

1148
01:11:42.600 --> 01:11:45.840
yeah, yeah, so Devin Saw
was fifteen during filming and much taller than

1149
01:11:45.840 --> 01:11:49.600
his ten year old cast mates,
so he can only be seen wearing socks

1150
01:11:49.600 --> 01:11:56.279
in some scenes. I get that. Dunham was removed as director after shooting

1151
01:11:56.279 --> 01:11:59.199
two thirds of the film. He
fell behind during the football game sequences.

1152
01:11:59.239 --> 01:12:01.199
Brian Levant was brought in for the
last few weeks to finish the football sequence

1153
01:12:01.279 --> 01:12:08.520
using his DP Rexford Elmets. Okay, Gary Busey and Randy Quaid were originally

1154
01:12:08.560 --> 01:12:14.960
cast for the leads. Wait,
that's made up. That's on IMDb.

1155
01:12:15.800 --> 01:12:25.359
Yeah, it's made up because you
can't have both for those who are like,

1156
01:12:25.479 --> 01:12:29.680
what if you know who Gary Busey
is, you have to Randy Quaid

1157
01:12:29.920 --> 01:12:33.439
is cousin Eddie or wait, yeah, yeah, Randy Quaid is cousin Eddie

1158
01:12:33.560 --> 01:12:40.520
from the Lampoon National Lampoon movies.
So you're talking about two of the most

1159
01:12:40.520 --> 01:12:46.039
insane actors in a children's movie.
But no, no, But like in

1160
01:12:46.119 --> 01:12:55.479
comedy, you need a straight man
and a funny guy. You're not wrong,

1161
01:12:55.560 --> 01:12:57.199
No, you're not wrong. Like
when I read that, I was

1162
01:12:57.239 --> 01:12:59.880
like, I want that movie.
I think that's made up. I don't

1163
01:12:59.920 --> 01:13:01.840
know if I believe that one who
would play who you think Bucy would be.

1164
01:13:02.039 --> 01:13:05.159
That's the problem because I can't even
try to figure it out. I

1165
01:13:05.479 --> 01:13:09.800
mean, okay, so, having
having seen Aya the Tiger, Ucy did

1166
01:13:09.800 --> 01:13:12.119
play pretty straight. No no,
no, no, But but this is

1167
01:13:12.159 --> 01:13:15.079
nineteen ninety four Bucy and Quay.
That's true, that's my point. I

1168
01:13:15.119 --> 01:13:18.560
mean, it's to me, it's
very obvious Quaid would play Miranis's character.

1169
01:13:18.800 --> 01:13:24.439
He's got and Becausecy you sy Quaid
is. For all the jokes about how

1170
01:13:24.479 --> 01:13:27.279
crazy Quaid is, Yeah, he's
pretty good at playing like a person who

1171
01:13:27.319 --> 01:13:30.560
gets humbled. Yeah, even cousin
Eddie, there were a lot of moments

1172
01:13:30.560 --> 01:13:32.239
where he would kind of, you
know, get really serious and be like,

1173
01:13:32.239 --> 01:13:35.119
well Clark, you know this and
that and this, and so I

1174
01:13:35.119 --> 01:13:38.199
mean that's to me, that's obvious. But then there's the other part,

1175
01:13:38.239 --> 01:13:43.000
which is like Quaid's a giant,
like he'd be taller than Beaucy. Yeah,

1176
01:13:43.039 --> 01:13:46.279
so I don't know. That's also
like the racing scene, the go

1177
01:13:46.399 --> 01:13:53.840
kart in the car, like that
scene would be next level beach. So

1178
01:13:54.039 --> 01:13:57.279
Ed O'Neill agreed, to play Kevin
so that his two young daughters could watch

1179
01:13:57.319 --> 01:14:00.520
something he started in that was family
friendly at the time, still popular for

1180
01:14:00.520 --> 01:14:02.399
out buddy on married with children.
His children were also fans of Rick Mirandas

1181
01:14:02.399 --> 01:14:05.079
so that was another reason. But
they weren't fans of Dutch. They weren't

1182
01:14:05.079 --> 01:14:10.319
fans of Dutch. Apparently. Spielberg
originally wanted Chris Columbus to direct the film,

1183
01:14:10.359 --> 01:14:13.439
as they had collaborated previously on Grimlins
and The Goonies. Columbus, however,

1184
01:14:13.520 --> 01:14:16.920
was busy with his screenplay for nine
months and couldn't commit a Spielberg Oh

1185
01:14:16.960 --> 01:14:18.880
yeah, they had yeah, yeah, never Sorry, sorry, I was

1186
01:14:18.880 --> 01:14:21.600
I was thinking of something else.
You're fine. And then Columbus also got

1187
01:14:21.600 --> 01:14:26.840
a little butt hurt because apparently he
had done a draft of Last Crusade and

1188
01:14:26.920 --> 01:14:29.680
Spielberg had not said some nice things
about it, and then they never worked

1189
01:14:29.680 --> 01:14:31.680
together again after that. Well,
I mean at some point, I mean,

1190
01:14:31.720 --> 01:14:34.359
you know, luckily he got hooked
up with Hughes for a while and

1191
01:14:34.520 --> 01:14:40.399
he kind of got set up from
there. But Chris Columbus, I could

1192
01:14:40.399 --> 01:14:43.680
see this being something he would do. Well, oh yeah, but uh

1193
01:14:44.399 --> 01:14:46.760
yeah, wow, yeah. Craig
t Nelson originally was offered the role of

1194
01:14:46.840 --> 01:14:49.159
Kevin, but turned it down as
he was already on Coach and didn't want

1195
01:14:49.159 --> 01:14:51.960
to play the same part. Yeah, I think that's why is on Craig

1196
01:14:51.960 --> 01:14:55.800
T. Nelson's part. Bob Sagett
was considered for the role of Danny,

1197
01:14:55.840 --> 01:14:59.680
but was filming TV movie Father and
Scouton couldn't commit to the to the role

1198
01:14:59.680 --> 01:15:01.399
and all. So he was going
to be doing af V during the summer,

1199
01:15:01.439 --> 01:15:03.520
so when it ran longer, it
would have been a problem as well.

1200
01:15:03.640 --> 01:15:06.359
Yeah, that's that. That would
have been an interesting choice. Due

1201
01:15:06.399 --> 01:15:11.600
to the film's tight schedule, Ed
O'Neil would simultaneously film episodes of Mary with

1202
01:15:11.760 --> 01:15:15.279
Children while finishing the film. Filming
was to conclude before summer hiatus from the

1203
01:15:15.279 --> 01:15:18.199
show, but continued into the next
season as a couple episodes are being filmed

1204
01:15:18.239 --> 01:15:21.279
for it as they wrapped. And
that's not a crazy thing. Have you

1205
01:15:21.359 --> 01:15:29.199
heard about what? What? Uh
uh? What's his name? Marty McFly?

1206
01:15:29.359 --> 01:15:30.840
Oh? Michael J. Fox?
What Michael J. Fox went through

1207
01:15:30.880 --> 01:15:33.600
to being back to the future.
Wasn't that not fact? Was it Facts

1208
01:15:33.600 --> 01:15:35.399
of Life? Or yeah? He
was on facts? Yeah? Yeah,

1209
01:15:35.439 --> 01:15:41.159
yeah, yeah, yeah, So
he would literally work and then sleep like

1210
01:15:41.479 --> 01:15:45.039
two hour hours and then work half
a day. Yeah. I mean he

1211
01:15:45.159 --> 01:15:48.640
was constantly constantly working. It's not
an unusual thing, yeah, in that

1212
01:15:48.760 --> 01:15:53.920
era especially. So what are your
final thoughts as we bring the show to

1213
01:15:53.960 --> 01:15:59.520
a close for Little Giants? I
think that I can't pretend that Little Giants

1214
01:15:59.600 --> 01:16:03.560
is a phenomenal kids movie or a
phenomenal film, but it's it's a ton

1215
01:16:03.600 --> 01:16:10.239
of fun. It's a wonderful time
capsule of its era. It's definitely a

1216
01:16:10.239 --> 01:16:15.680
film that it's definitely of its time. Deeply, it's very much that post

1217
01:16:15.760 --> 01:16:18.399
eighties kid comedy where you still had
a lot of farts, you still had

1218
01:16:18.439 --> 01:16:24.000
the stereotypical fat kid. You still
had like the tomboy girl who's gonna learn

1219
01:16:24.000 --> 01:16:27.800
to wear makeup? You had all
that stuff. Yeah, but you had

1220
01:16:27.920 --> 01:16:30.920
Ed O'Neil and Rick moranis kind of
giving it. They're all very strong leans.

1221
01:16:31.159 --> 01:16:34.920
Yeah. So, I mean,
I would say, if you're a

1222
01:16:35.039 --> 01:16:40.920
nineties kid, it's it's definitely a
rented yep. But if you're just a

1223
01:16:40.960 --> 01:16:44.520
common moviegoer, it's a stream at
stream. You know. That's that's my

1224
01:16:44.600 --> 01:16:45.800
opinion. What about you? So
I gave it a rented. Much like

1225
01:16:45.840 --> 01:16:48.640
snow Day from a few shows back, Little Giants is a family comedy they

1226
01:16:48.720 --> 01:16:53.600
just don't make anymore. They do
not make. There are lots of reasons

1227
01:16:53.600 --> 01:16:56.079
for that, yes, I know, but I think it's cute and funny,

1228
01:16:56.079 --> 01:16:59.359
with some truly heartfelt moments, and
a good movie for your family with

1229
01:16:59.520 --> 01:17:01.199
you strong needs to make it work. It's a little longer than it needs

1230
01:17:01.199 --> 01:17:03.359
to be in my opinion, but
I would have to agree with her that

1231
01:17:03.399 --> 01:17:05.640
far. Yeah, because it's like, I don't know what I would cut,

1232
01:17:05.640 --> 01:17:09.079
but there is things that I could
cut. I think it could be

1233
01:17:09.119 --> 01:17:11.840
shortened up a little bit. So
as we bring the show to a close,

1234
01:17:11.880 --> 01:17:14.920
we always like to give a couple
of recommendations. This week, I

1235
01:17:14.960 --> 01:17:17.680
am going to bring forth The Little
Rascals from nineteen ninety four. Alfalfa is

1236
01:17:17.720 --> 01:17:21.800
wooing Darla and his he man woman
hating friends attempt to sabotage the relationship.

1237
01:17:23.399 --> 01:17:26.159
Solely, this was a pick because
the Clubhouse, I just that always makes

1238
01:17:26.199 --> 01:17:29.800
me think it Little Rascals obviously absolutely, and also I feel I mean same

1239
01:17:29.880 --> 01:17:31.680
year as Little Giants as well,
So it's just one of those classic nineties

1240
01:17:31.720 --> 01:17:34.319
comedies for kids. And then the
other one I'm Gonna do is a sports

1241
01:17:34.359 --> 01:17:38.039
movie, The Big Green. Disney's
The Big Green from nineteen ninety five.

1242
01:17:38.039 --> 01:17:41.680
A teacher on exchange from England is
placed in an underachieving Texas school, where

1243
01:17:41.720 --> 01:17:45.119
she coaches the students in soccer,
improving their self esteem and leading to unexpected

1244
01:17:45.159 --> 01:17:47.720
success. Steve Gutenberg's in that one
too, Ah, the Gutenberg. What

1245
01:17:47.760 --> 01:17:51.520
do you got for a recommendation,
I've got one, and it's the only

1246
01:17:51.600 --> 01:17:56.760
sports movie I ever love. Okay, very simply, there's only one sports

1247
01:17:56.800 --> 01:18:00.560
movie I've ever absolutely positively loved my
entire life, and that's The Sandlot.

1248
01:18:01.000 --> 01:18:06.920
The Sandlot is one of the greatest
kids movies ever made, and it's definitely

1249
01:18:06.920 --> 01:18:13.520
the best kids movie of the nineties. The Sandlot is just excellent in every

1250
01:18:13.560 --> 01:18:17.239
way. You identify with the kids, you identify with the adults, you

1251
01:18:17.279 --> 01:18:23.760
identify with their plight. It depicts
baseball as what it actually is, which

1252
01:18:23.800 --> 01:18:28.560
is an excuse for friendship. Yeah, so you're never bogged down by like

1253
01:18:28.600 --> 01:18:32.359
the idea of what baseball actually is. You know, you don't have to

1254
01:18:32.399 --> 01:18:35.239
worry. There's no down on the
ninth, there's no way I see I

1255
01:18:35.279 --> 01:18:39.720
don't even know anything about baseball.
But I also love Dennis arc in that

1256
01:18:39.760 --> 01:18:42.760
movie. Oh it's wonderful, so
good well, and seeing non You're gonna

1257
01:18:42.760 --> 01:18:46.319
make me emotional because I have stepdad
who actually cared and I and thanks.

1258
01:18:47.039 --> 01:18:48.880
And as a kid, no,
no, But as a kid, I

1259
01:18:48.880 --> 01:18:54.159
didn't appreciate it. You know,
I didn't know how rare it was to

1260
01:18:54.199 --> 01:18:58.439
have a stepdad who like really treated
you like his own. So now when

1261
01:18:58.439 --> 01:19:02.000
I watch Sandlot, I get really
emotion about Dennis Leary's character because I was

1262
01:19:02.079 --> 01:19:04.520
very much that way to my stepdad
is very unfair. But I was a

1263
01:19:04.520 --> 01:19:06.399
little kid. I mean I was
very little. Yeah, I mean I

1264
01:19:06.399 --> 01:19:11.760
didn't throw in my fucking yellow belt
or anything, but god, but I

1265
01:19:12.000 --> 01:19:14.560
you know, but I mean in
all seriously is That's another element of The

1266
01:19:14.560 --> 01:19:17.600
Sandlot that makes it very special to
me is the fact that Dennis Leary,

1267
01:19:17.680 --> 01:19:20.880
you know, he never does anything
to really be a villain. The kid

1268
01:19:21.119 --> 01:19:25.640
just treats him like a villain because
he's not his dad. And I know

1269
01:19:25.760 --> 01:19:30.520
exactly what that's like. So The
Sandlot is just one of those quintessential movies

1270
01:19:30.560 --> 01:19:32.600
we'll be talking about on the show
Inevidence. Oh absolutely, Yeah, so,

1271
01:19:33.399 --> 01:19:36.199
but with all that said, little
giants, it's a great piece of

1272
01:19:36.199 --> 01:19:42.680
fun. Nobody gets hurt except for
the fat kids underwear as he passes gas

1273
01:19:42.760 --> 01:19:45.520
constantly. I will say to you, it's also not streaming anywhere right now,

1274
01:19:45.520 --> 01:19:48.359
so you will have to find it
and or rent it. You'll have

1275
01:19:48.439 --> 01:19:54.319
to hunt and gather, Yes,
but it'll be worth it to score your

1276
01:19:54.439 --> 01:19:58.239
very own touchdown as you watch the
film and go, wow, kids,

1277
01:19:58.319 --> 01:20:04.239
movies are. They're much less filthy
offensive offensive. It's a good way to

1278
01:20:04.239 --> 01:20:08.640
put it too. Yeah. So, with that all being said, double

1279
01:20:08.720 --> 01:20:12.960
d yes sir, before we get
out of here, I am so so

1280
01:20:13.119 --> 01:20:16.119
tired. I can tell oh,
thanks, thanks, I can tell you

1281
01:20:16.119 --> 01:20:21.319
throw out your goddamn yellow belt too. But said a goddamn thing that being

01:21:13.640 --> 01:21:15.880
Well. Our email is do youeven
movie Pod at gmail dot com. Hey,

1298
01:21:15.920 --> 01:21:18.520
so maybe you should say that too. You said that I thought I

1299
01:21:18.560 --> 01:21:21.520
did not. Okay, well now
it's fun. Now you did. Well,

1300
01:21:21.560 --> 01:21:26.319
now I did. So are you
gonna find your fucking yellow belt or

1301
01:21:26.319 --> 01:21:28.319
what? I don't know. I
mean, I gotta check my basement.

1302
01:21:28.399 --> 01:21:30.319
You threw it away, and you
know, I don't know, dude,

1303
01:21:30.399 --> 01:21:32.479
it could be at my parents' house. I have no idea. I can't

1304
01:21:32.520 --> 01:21:35.279
believe I came across it. Like
I want to say, about ten years

1305
01:21:35.279 --> 01:21:39.840
ago. I came across it.
Probably I have to check. It may

1306
01:21:39.880 --> 01:21:42.279
be in my closet. Actually,
I may have literally just seen it when

1307
01:21:42.279 --> 01:21:45.000
I was a parents house over the
weekend. Now I'm curious. Damn it.

1308
01:21:45.039 --> 01:21:45.800
Now I'm gonna go home for my
yellow Belt. I don't want to

1309
01:21:45.840 --> 01:21:54.279
do this. Why did I tell
you the story? You make a lot

1310
01:21:54.319 --> 01:21:58.079
of mistakes. So what are we
showing next week? Next show watching?

1311
01:21:58.520 --> 01:22:00.680
Next week? We are going to
be taking a little bit of a turn

1312
01:22:00.840 --> 01:22:05.520
to Bad Moon, one of the
best underrated Werewolf movies, I mean of

1313
01:22:05.600 --> 01:22:10.880
the nineties by with Eric Red.
Yes, Eric Red, it's a great

1314
01:22:10.960 --> 01:22:14.000
flick. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching it. Yes

1315
01:22:14.199 --> 01:22:17.119
and yeah because I think we came
up with that idea because the IDEs of

1316
01:22:17.159 --> 01:22:20.720
