Blade (1998): Wesley Snipes and the Daywalker Legacy

Henrique Couto and David Denoyer revisit BLADE (1998), the R-rated Marvel vampire action film that introduced movie audiences to Wesley Snipes’ Eric Brooks: the Daywalker with a vampire’s strength, a human conscience and none of the undead’s sunlight vulnerability. Director Stephen Norrington and screenwriter David S. Goyer turn a comic-book adaptation into a martial-arts-heavy horror thriller, and the hosts place its success between the fallout from Batman & Robin and the superhero boom that followed.
The story begins with Blade’s birth after his pregnant mother is attacked, then follows hematologist Karen Jenson (N’Bushe Wright) after Quinn bites her in a hospital morgue. Blade and his mentor-armorer Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) race to stop Karen’s transformation while tracking Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), an ambitious turned vampire seeking the power of the blood god La Magra. Their discussion follows Frost’s rebellion against the pure-blood council, the vampire archives, Blade’s serum and the temple ritual that makes his blood essential to Frost’s plan.
The episode digs into the unforgettable slaughterhouse blood-rave opening: its pounding techno, goth-club imagery, deliberately wasteful spectacle and the practical headache of plumbing a room to rain blood. Henrique and David ask whether anyone besides Snipes could have balanced Blade’s swagger, martial arts and comic-book silliness, while celebrating Kristofferson’s effortlessly cool Whistler and Donald Logue’s repeatedly dismembered Quinn. They also trace the striking range of 1990s vampire cinema, from romantic Gothic horror to action and comedy.
The hosts find the movie gloriously excessive, funny and still influential, even when its late-1990s digital effects and plotting become ridiculous. One considers it a strong rental that may become an own-it for nostalgic action and superhero fans; the other calls it an outright buy for its trailblazing mix of vampire horror, hard-R violence and superhero spectacle. Mortal Kombat and John Carpenter’s Vampires enter the conversation as companion pieces for the same era and energy.
Beyond Blade, the recorded sidebars compare Liam Neeson’s comic presence with Leslie Nielsen’s legacy in The Naked Gun, consider what long gaps between installments mean through the Freaky Friday films, and explore memorable gross-out cinema. It is a detailed, affectionate review of the cast, lore, action design, soundtrack and genre impact behind one of Marvel’s defining pre-MCU movies.

0:00 When the city sleeps, the Secret Mission awakens. Vampires there where we should be ruling the Cubans, But this Friday there were things out tonight than vampires. Evil. We're gonna be gods as a new enemy that. Wesley snipes Stephen Dorf, the world. Belongs to us, Blade. Dar In a world where podcasts reign supreme, Two Friends dare to ask, do you even? Movie? Hosted by filmmaker Enrique Kuto and movie aficionado David Denyer.

1:00 Spoiler alert? Is that is that how you want to where you want to be when Jesus come back? It's the other that roll and roll? You know you'll be loving this ship right here? Did you ever see the the mad TV pose and pose and pose and pose and pose? And did you ever see I'm sure you have you seen him living color when Jim carried a wh God, damn it. What's the song called impostor informant? I think it's informant. He was that South South African white rapper, damn it? What the hell is his name? But he basically did a he didn't Living color sketch all about how that guy was a huge poser.

1:55 Mmm, I mean a gangly white Canadian like him would. Know Informer that's the name of the song. Impost. Snow is what the the sketch is called because Snow was the artist and the song was called Informer, and he called it imposter. There was a white, white South African rapper named Snow. Yes, I'm checking, hang on, I did not know that. I'm not I'm not denying it. I'm checking checking had not Canadian. My apologies. Oh that's less. Geez Davi's like, sorry about making it extremely charred. Yeah, that's bad. This is the stuff ideal. Well he did. He did reggae. That's what Snow did.

2:36 There were a few white reggae ars gayers in the UH in the nineties. I feel like, did you ever hear Eddie Murphy's red Light song that he did when he was doing reggae? When I think Snoop Lyon was kind of doing the same thing around that time. He did a song called red Light. I don't even know if you can still find him besides YouTube because it used to be on like streaming services and whatnot. But I don't think it's even worth a video still because I know he had a music video for it, but it was a pretty solid song. But I mean Eddie Murphy was is a musician. Technically, I like it. At first it sounded like praise, and then it became not so praised. I didn't technically. I mean people people don't know him for his music. I feel like in this day they know him because he was a comedian and a star. Yeah oh yeah, eleven years ago red Light featuring Snoope line.

3:23 In this day and age, kids they just don't know it, you know, they just don't understand. But yeah, no, I that's a solid song. I never heard that in a while. Listen that a way home? Yeah, yeah, you know you're gonna stick to that story. I'm gonna stick that store even though actually if I want to listen to it on the way home, I still have to listen to it through my phone because I still can only play CDs in my car right now. So what is the problem with the car? Oh, the cassette tech. The cassette tech died, which is how I have my adapter that played through my phone or I can hook it up to whatever. Because I have the CASSETTEP adapter thing. It doesn't have the FM hooked up. When I when I bought the car. Yeah, you don't have the f it's not hooked up. So, I mean, in all reality, and I think I've said this on the show already, in all reality, I could probably just have the radio taken out, hook up the FM and I'd be fine. Is that I can use my transmitter.

4:10 I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be difficult. It wouldn't. How how was the FM not hooked up? I don't know. It just that's how it wasn't when I got the car. It just wasn't hooked up. Yeah, that's that's odd. Yeah, the car has never had FM radio like in the M the a M. Well, okay, so it's weird because it I can get FM radio, but it's I have to turn that fucker all the way up in order for it to in order to hear it. And that's even just lightly. So you do have FM, it just doesn't work. Well, the intet is probably not hooked up. Yes, yeah, strengthened. Well, well, have you tried an FM transmitter because it might be louder. I did. It didn't work. It didn't work at all. Now, even when all it did.

4:51 Was it just made it go basically silent. So like it's getting the signal, but it does I only know, but knows what's what it can do with it for that matter. It's weird. That's weird. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it should just get a new stereo. I'm probably going They're not that expensive. And I mean, actually was. I was at my dad's shop a couple of days ago and he's got a couple and I was like, are you doing anything with those? And he's like, oh no, if you actually want one of those and it would fit, let me know. But even a new stereo is not expensive. But even just to get a new cassette deck for the time being, what you. Just want a cassette deck. I mean, that's how I've listened to my music. Like I mean, don't get me wrong, Like I have a shit ton of CDs and I have a shit to like cassetts, but I. Have a ship ton of iPhone Internet. But I also just that adapter literally plug and play.

5:34 It's the simplest thing for me. I mean there are simpler No, don't get me wrong. As somebody who literally drove his mom's car last night, and I was and I had the ability to bluetooth into the radio through my phone and whatnot. That was nice. Don't get me wrong. The best thing I ever did on my old car was put a new radio, and. That was the thing was I've like when I the last time I put a radio in my car was when I had my first g because it was shortly after I put that radio in, like a year after I put that radio in that I ended up getting newer Geep, the red Jeep. But that was like the only time I've really ever done a hystereo replacement. And that was, like I think I've said on the show before, like that was kind of a pain in the ass.

6:14 But I had a buddy doing it. He did it for a six pack, so I can't really complain. But that was when we had that whole thing with like the headlight wires getting crossed so the radio would work, and then I turned on the headlights and the radio didn't work, and yeah, it was a whole. And they turned the wipers in the garage door over, just like, what the hell's happening here? What's you put my window down? Ejector seat A. Yeah. Cars are fun, they are They're a blast. Yeah, sure, they can't all be the car. I love that movie. It's a good movie, freaking Jaws, but it's a car basically, well. There were a lot of that, Oh yeah, Jaws, but it's a car. Yeah. It's kind of like until eventually it came all the way around to Jaws, but it's a shark, yeah, which is what happened with die Hard as well. What about Diehard and office building, It's like, that's just Diehard. It's like, yeah, but that was eight years ago. We've done Diehard in a submarine. We've been Diehard in a prison.

7:07 I got so excited recently because I've been trying to see Skyscraper, the the Shannon Tweed die Hard knockoff or is it Nicole An Cole Smith? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's PM Entertainment. It's fucking on YouTube, and I'm so excited I can finally see it that I thought that was legitimately on two b Uh if it was, it's not anymore when I looked at it, like a battle week ago or so, because there's no contest, which is Shannon Tweed and then there's Annacole Smith's Skyscraper. There's no contest is Shannon Tweeds die Hard with Andrew Dice Clay as a terrorist at a swim model thing. Andrew Dice Clay. Yeah, I love this. Yeah, No contest?

7:47 Is that? Was that a PM entertainment as well? Probably? I have no idea, but I would It wouldn't surprise me. This guy it's on two b oh is it? Uh? Well, I can sort of check, okay, like fully by clicking on the link. I mean, no, it looks like it's gone. Wait much of Josh went away? Well, if I could spell skyscraper, which I can't, No, it's there. No, it is, Yeah, because I found there's a channel that I found recently that had like I think it was like twenty five movies in a playlist. It was a bunch of those like No Contest, Skyscraper, Body, Body of Evidence, It's. Of an Innocence maybe, I mean that's the one with the radio DJ. Yeah, Yeah, that one's good. I think that was the one. Or was that? No? No, that's night rhythms.

8:35 What's body Body of Innocences with Shannon Worry? Okay? Where was that Body of Influence? Is that the one that that influenced? Yeah, there's so many body. I watched Body of Evidence for the first time this year with the Dafoe and Madonna. Movie's trash, but it's a lot of fun. I've never heard anybody say a review that wasn't basically what you just said. Yeah, so that checks out. Yeah, speaking of movies, yes, uh nah, I don't want to talk about movies. So I saw a movie you haven't seen. Yeah you did. Yeah, I'm dying to see it, are you? Yes? M because I love Nees mm hm what then. Why haven't we rented the new Ice Road movie with a rend it?

9:15 I thought it was on Netflix, no ship no, but. It's it's out on super v o D right now. Oh god, that's sounded old now it's super vid we used to call it. But yeah, I thought that's weird. It's a Netflix movie sequel. Well, I mean license through them, but yeah, but I mean I think that's the only place you could get or can you rent it out otherwise? I think their their window on it ended because uh yeah, because we were all surprised a while back. It came out like a few months ago. We kept debating renting it. I've heard it's fine, yea. The Ice Road is still only on Netflix. The sequel is uh nowhere. Ice Road to the Next day.

9:59 I mean it's actually Ice Road Vengeance. Yeah, and uh where no show. I saw the Naked Gun rebad? The data is that in there? The theme do you want me to spoil that? I mean, was that a spoiler? I mean yeah, and it was. It was like where they use it was really fun genius. Yeah, you can only buy it for twenty five dollars. The Ice Road Vengeance twenty five dollars. Oh shit, yeap, twenty five dollars purchase. It was put up by Vertical. Okay, that actually makes sense. I don't remember. I don't know exactly. I think it's been a couple of months. It's been out, Yeah, it's at least been a couple of months. But no, so the Naked Gun, that's one of those that I was not initially very excited about because comedies just haven't been a big part of the theatrical experience for a while now. Yeah, and then that's I think it was. The second trailer that dropped was the one where they review like him talking to his to Frank, to his dead dad. But then it shows Paul Walter Houser talking to his dad and of course and it's ny but then it just revealed like a line of pops all talking to their dead dad O. J. Simpson one, which in the movie the joke is slightly different, but it's very, very funny.

11:18 So that's when I was like, Okay, this might this might be pretty interesting. Yeah, it's eighty five minutes. It just zooms, And I'll tell you one joke from the movie that nearly killed me. That's not a big spoiler because it's my kind of humor. There's a like tech mogul character and he at one point invites Drebin to like his presentation or whatever, and as he's walking down, they're all these posters. Yeah right, And the first one is just like him, like with his hand on it, just like innovate, and then but then it's like the next one is like him, and then this is like Conserve and he's riding a lion with like a bow and arrow. And then the other one is like is like reinventor whatever. He's like flying through the sky like a jet pack or something. But then the fourth one it just says pumpkins and he's just sitting with a pumpkin like on a bail of hay and that but just killed you. Pumpkins. Yeah, there's no contact, no, no pumpkins.

12:14 That one nearly killed because I saw it once at the drive in, and I saw it again on Friday or on Monday, and it is so fast. Like when I saw with Rachel. I literally she like went to get some French fries and I was like, Rachel, you're missing your you missed that, yeah, and she was like what what. I'm like, fuck like cause there's so many gags happening at once. That reminds me. So. My father showed me a lot of movies, probably early on that he shouldn't have. One of the which was Revenge of the Nerds that I grew up with when I was like six or seven. Is that why you have problems? Let's not do that anyway. There is a great bit in Revenge of the Nerds right when they get to the college where they're carrying that giant trunk and the dude is on the golf cart hits them, or I walks over their picnic. All this stuff. Well, my dad, no joke, rewound the movie four times because I would I I would do this thing where like when we, you know, we watch movies together, and like we would like look at each other and laugh kind of thing.

13:05 So every time I would like turn to look at him, I would miss, like the big gag at the end. He rewounded four times so that I could see all of it because I kept turning and looking at me. He's like, no, you're missing it. Somebody should have told him, it's easier to just give you a little swat and a hag. That's way easier than rewinding. Yeah, And literally it was rewinding because he had recorded I've told I think I've said this before he recorded it was We had a VHS we probably still do at my parents' house that says Revenge of the Nerds and Red Dawn are on a tape together. Two great tastes that taste great together. Yeah. Yeah, no, but yeah, I was very I've been a huge fan of the Leslie Nielsen movies. I mean I was there when I was there when like for Better or Worse, when like Spy Hard.

13:47 And stan Helsing, and. He wasn't in stan Helsing. Yeah he is. He's a huge part of stan Helsing. No, yes, he is, David, Yes he is David. Uh huh. We've been through this and therapy. Huh. No. No, but uh no, but like aspired, what was the wrongfully accused? Wrongfully accused? Those were the two that like they hit while I was like a kid, well. Because he did a bunch of them. He also did, like, you know, mister McGoo around that time he did. No that was that was like two thousands, was it? No? No way, No, I'm curious, all right, right, but I bet you wrongfully accused is earlier in the nineties than I realized.

14:32 I think it's like ninety five or ninety six, because the fugitive is what it's mocking, of course, and I think the. Fugitive is ninety eight. Oh wow, okay, man, they were all Were they all that much later than I spy hard? Probably I was to say that's okay. Next to the the youngest one. But but anyway, but I I so, I got a real kick out of those movies. I saw the Naked gun movies a little bit later when they would be on cable or whatever. But I thought that this new one. I knew that it was gonna be at least pretty good because when he's praying to his dad in the beginning, he literally says, like Dad, I just want to be like you, except different, you know, my own thing but like you, but like you. And I was like, that's really funny because that's yeah, that's like the conundrum of the remake, recol whatever you want to call it.

15:23 Neison does comedy. We've said that before too, but like Neison does comedy really well. Like his One of my favorite bits of his still is that fucking cameo and Ted two with the tricks of her kids. Oh yeah. So I was at the lounge yesterday with her buddy Nick, and she was talking about how funny that was, and I was like right, and then the end credit thing and she was like, what end credit thing? And I was like, no, the best part is at the end credits when he comes back, and she was like, holy shit, and he's beat up and just puts. The box on my count. I say. Next to that, it probably his appearance on Life's Too Short, The Warrig Davis Show where he comes in and talked to Ricky Gervais and Steve Moyer. Yeah, Stephen Moyer, No, Steven Moyer. It's Stephen who's a.

16:04 Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant. Merchant, thank you. Moyer is a bill from. True Flood that's nice to hear. Well, anyway, he comes in and wants to do a bunch of comedy and that that bit's hilarious. Well, I think it's really interesting to choose Liam Neeson because he and Leslie Nielsen had a very similar no no, a similar track, and that they both made a pretty moderately successful career out of being kind of a side character actor with very few starring roles, like Nissan starred in dark Man. But dark Man wasn't a huge hit. Even though I think it's a you know, phenomenal movie, it wasn't a huge hit. And that is like the one thing I hate when I talk to like people on the internet and stuff, like when I'm trying to be friendly and I'll point out, like how the movie did theatrically but it's such a good way, Like I didn't it doesn't matter. Well though it does, it does, but but we're talking about how it was, how it was received, not how we feel about it. Yeah, because they're I mean, this show is full of movies that we think are great that had terrible some of them.

17:05 I mean, we have some that were big hits, but like, yeah, many of them are like surprisingly not successful in the box office, and sometimes the audiences weren't ready, or it was bad marketing, or you know, or you got it from a toilet seat, whatever it might be. Yeah, I got bad box office from a toilet seat. That's what the doctor told me. But so when you look at Leslie Nielsen, he was a character actor who was on TV all the time. Then Airplane happens and people are kind of like, wow, that came out of nowhere for him, and then he becomes a funny man when he was like never humorous. Really was Police Squad before Airplane? Okay? No, Police Squad was inspired by his performance an Airplane if I remember correctly, because Airplane was a while back.

17:47 Airplane is like nineteen eighty, nineteen eighty on the nose. Yeah, and then Police Squad I think it was like eighty one or eighty two. Chick. I'm almost certain those I've been watching it, because I mean there's only six episodes. Yeah. Well, if you heard the thing too, the thing about that thing about that that they're like the problem with the shows you had to watch it? Well, they it was during dinner, the dinner slot, right, Well though they well. I mean, I don't know that much, but they said that the problem was people weren't used to television being so cumulative. Yeah, like, if you watched every episode it worked really well. Yeah, but if you tuned in every so often, it's just you could fall off. One of the absolute best gags of that show is the very end. They always freeze, but they don't freeze the picture. It's just them freezing.

18:27 But then somebody is like not in on the joke, Like there's a prison that tries to escape, there's a monkey that tries to escape. In one episode they do a whole new riff on that in The Naked Gun. No, it's it's like, it's the kind of joke I would make about everything freezing. But so but by point so Leslie Nielsen similarly, yeah, or Liam Neeson similarly. Very successful career, yeah, a bit more successful than n Nielsen was originally. Yeah, but then he does Taken and his career now he's an action leading man. Yeah, big time. And he wasn't that no before really at all. He was. He was you know, he was a drama guy. He was in Lord of the Rings. I think it was he had done action pictures. I mean like he had been in Next of Ken, but he wasn't the lead wasn't. Yeah, and I mean and Next of Ken. He also played a redneck next to.

19:18 Can what those Hazard boys or Redneck? That movie is the weirdest movie because my mom's from Hazard that that is the funniest. Like that movie will come to this show at some point because just a fantastic. For the record, the size of Hazzard Kentucky to be like, hey, hen I got this movie. Let's check it out. And then we put it on him like they're from my mom's hometown. That never will happen to you or me? No, oh fuck, he does. So he does Next of Ken and then does dark Man back to back. Well and and it must have been tough because when dark Man kind of it was not a big hit. I don't know if it fully flopped, but it wasn't a huge hit. It was big enough to get That's how you knew that the box office wasn't they wanted because Universal was notorious for and and and I think it was overall a good thing obviously for sending their modest theatrical successes straight to the video department. Hence Tremor's Two.

20:11 Tremor's three, hence dark Man two and three. But I I mean, I'm still very fond of those those. Have you Have you seen Nison's I mean I call it Niesen's Braveheart. But Rob Roy, oh ye, Rob Roy Santas. I saw it when it came out. That movie just that movie kind of got forgotten. It feels like and it has like Jessica Lang, Tim Roth, John Hurt. I think it's because it really came off as like a Robin Hood knockoff. Yeah, I mean there is that too, Yeah. But I mean not that it wasn't good, you know, again again stating a a objective reality of a movie like that, the box office wasn't whatever. Well, it's not about it's not a judgment, you feel like. Also a lot of people were surprised and forget that Neison kind of got his foot in comedy with the Million Waist Dye in the West.

20:56 Well, yes, what was was that before Ted? Well that was before Ted two? Because Ted two is because they had made jokes with Liam Neeson a lot and a lot of stuff. MacFarlane thinks Ted two is twenty fifteen. A Million Waist Dye in the West is twenty fourteen. Wow. So it's a year before but yeah, I mean before that, he doesn't really do many comedy I mean him and leap of faith with Steve Martin. He's not He's not in a funny role. No, no, So my point is that he went from a pretty successful famous actor to a leading man in a genre that he really was never considered a big part of. Yeah, and that's exactly what happened to Leslie Nielsen as well. He became the number one highest paid comedic actor in the world, and he had never considered himself even funny, yeah initially.

21:40 Yeah. And if you get a chance that hats you've seen the Hats Off Entertainment documentary about Leslie Nielsen's fantastic It's excellent and it really runs down how the best thing about that story is that he never was annoyed by it, Yeah, just because he spent his whole life trying to be a serious actor. He didn't. He was like, once he realized he was this comedy guy, he was like, this, this is an incredible gift. I'm so fortunate. Like I'll wake up every day and I go, this is awesome. Yeah, and that makes me happy. So anyway, because actors. You know they're a nightmare. Yep, they can be he yes, well you know you're obsessed with yourself, yeah, you have, but you have to be because you're your own stock in trade. Yeah, you know, you are your brand, you are your product. Yeah, so you do have to obsess over yourself at least a little bit, unless you're Brian Denny.

22:25 So character actors who is a fuck up? We get fat. It's great, solid. But so you saw Naked Gun and last night I saw Freaky Your Friday with my mom and my sister, and I've. That's a long title. I gotta tell you. I gotta tell you that movie was everything I could have hoped it was for a sequel coming twenty years later. It's what I wish Beetle Juice Beetle Juice was. You wish that Beetle Juice Beetle Juice had been a sequel to Freaky Friday. Exactly, That's exactly what I wish. Yes, Well, here's the question, though, this will tell us a Freak of Your Friday is actually good? Okay, how do they deal with Jeffrey Jones's character? They just have like drawings of him everywhere and stuff. So I will say Freaky Friday basically brought back every single character.

23:10 Which is impressive for a mom and pop studio like Disney, like Disnel, but Tobolowski's back. You've got the Chinese restaurant, the mom and the and the mom and her daughter are back. You've got Anna's bandmates are back, like Pink Slip's actually kind of a big part of the story. Oh and they actually hit big and like it. We're actually like musicians, like well known musicians that sold out arenas. Wow. Yeah, no, it's it's a lot of fun. The story is, it's twenty two years later and Anna is now a single mom. She ends up meeting a guy that ends up being the father of a girl that her daughter is fighting with at school, so they end up hitting it off. So the two are combat a already because they are already enemies at school. But then their parents start dating, and then six months goes by and their parents are engaged and getting ready to get married. So one thing leads to another and all four of them, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, her daughter, and the stepdaughter all end up swapping bodies. So you've got the two young ones that go into the older bodies and the older go into the younger bodies.

24:09 Is the old Chinese lady it's her fault. No, they don't even tell it's not. No, there's a whole there's a whole fortune teller aspect. So it's like they went big yeah. I mean like the movie big yeah. So they literally did the sequel thing where like it's double now yeah okay, okay, but I mean, yeah, Jake's back in it. I mean it's it's a lot of fun, it has a lot of heart to it, and overall the ending is just really really sweet. They kind of goes back to the whole I don't want to spoil too much, but like kind of goes back to the whole concert performance thing again, so they kind of do repeat some things from the first one. But overall, Freaky r Friday gets a big thumbs up for me. I had a absolute blast with that. Jamie Lee Curtis is just living her best life after winning that Oscar.

24:50 I mean, wouldn't you. Yeah, she's doing I mean it feels like she's doing roles that she wants to do, and it feels like for a while there she wasn't doing a lot of projects she wanted to. Really, I felt like she just kind of wasn't doing much. I mean, that's just kind of taking a break. Yeah, you know because my Halloween really like shot her in the sky. My sister was telling me it was hard. It was it was crazy too because she had just seen her in The Bear recently. Oh yeah, yeah, so it was crazy to see her in this versus like her character in The Bear. My mom spoiled that Jamie Lee was in The Bear. My mom just texted me and what I love that Jamie Lee is it? She just loves Jamie Lee. She always has. She got excited. I was like, I guess she plays his mom and now I'm doing it to anybody. But you know what, it's been out for months. Fuck you, that's fine. Well, I mean that was the first season though, that and that's or the second.

25:32 Second one of them. It's an alley of the second season. So it's my point because that fucking episodes pack with so many people. What thought was funny to question you, But my challenge you. It's always funny to see you action. But yeah, for your Friday one hundred percent, go see it. If you're a fan of the first one. I hope it does well too because of it. So far, it's got a seven point one on IMDb. No idea of the box office, but it is getting pretty deep. Well it's only been out, I mean as of the recording of this is about for a day or two. Well me Mews and Friday, it's all that they have. So our showing yesterday we went to a five fifteen showing and I mean it was pretty packed. It wasn't sold out, but it was pretty packed on a Friday. That's pretty good. And I got a fucking We went to the Synopolis Synopolis and I got the hot dog in popcorn combo.

26:16 Didn't realize it was a foot long. So they bring they bring the food to me. And were you were you like you were like, I wonder how big that hot dog was gonna be? And then you hear the doors here, dun dud. They just walk up there like your hot dog, Piggy ziggy, piggy so and and with with the tax it was only like one hundred and seventy four dollars. Yeah for the hot dog. I gotta say, I do love those seats of Synopolis. Man, those nice. Yeah. I don't even remember them. They go. They're the kind that were climbed deep, so it's like you kind of sit back deep and then like. The ones at the Green, yes, yeah, the Green everything. Yeah, they have the ones which which I call the pocket emptier because they will because yeah, because at our regular theater, it's just a normal you just recline, but at some of these theaters, yeah, you recline and you sink. And literally when I go to the Green where they have those, the first thing I do when I sit down and just take everything out of my pockets and put it in the cup holder because I have I've like caught my phone falling out of my pants. Yeah, so many times at that theater. So and and they're also the ones that will put you to sleep the heart, oh yeah, because they're like it's like those seats are just like let me just hold you, little bird, let me just hold you. You're like okay. So luckily, I mean I don't go there very much. I never go to Sinopolis.

27:34 I forget it's there and it's not far from me. Literally, I was thinking, like the last one I was there, I think it was when you and I. Saw the Predator. Yeah, the Predator yeah, because. I think other than that, the ones might've been there is when I went to see Bad Times at the El Royale for a Bachelor part of the startup a Bachelor. Oh I remember that. Yep, that was fun. That was when the video game bar was still down there, and that video game bar closed a couple of years ago. I mean, who wants to watch video games get drunk? I've would fair enough. But uh, and if we did, we talk about we talked about together. Yeah, we talked about the other yep. So because we saw that, yep together. So and next week we'll be talking about weapons. Yes, we willing to go see weapons, which I'm amped.

28:15 Then I'm probably gonna go see I might see Nigga Gun tomorrow. We'll see what happens. What's I want to go see to the drive in because I want to see. I want to see because I'm curious, but I'm not like, I'm not in a big hurt. I'm curious about Fantastic four because I've heard so many mixed reviews on it. Now I see the problem for me is that the good reviews just I'm not I was already not that excited same, so it's not I mean, like if I went wanted to go to the theater and there's nothing I hadn't seen, I see it. It's just I've heard. The number one thing I've heard, and you know, if I if I'm wrong about this, feel feed to right into the show. But the number one thing I've heard is the approach of of where they put it in time, timeline wise, is really odd. It's in the fifties. Yeah, yeah, because it's starting at all. Yeah, they said, they said, it's just an odd choice. I think that was the timeline the original I mean, because it was literally started in the fifties if I remember correctly. Yeah, so yeah, I mean, you know, comic book movies are fine or whatever. Yeah, I hadn't seen one in a long time.

29:08 So, I mean, we're talking about one today on the show. Technically, no, and we're talking about one of the granddaddy of comic book movies because because bat Burton's Batman is actually not that far apart. Yeah in this one. No, you're not, You're not wrong. Well, because Batman Robin was ninety seven and The Blade is ninety eight, and literally Batman Robin kind of killed it for a little bit, unfortunately, it's it's can't be fun now. Yeah, people forget that. That movie really pissed a lot of people. And I want my groan for the for the Rondred. It was not because I don't like Burton's Batman. There's very opposite of that, you know, but it was. It's because I'm, you know, pointing out things like, hey, when you remember a movie from nineteen ninety eight, that's like in nineteen eight, somebody remembering way from nineteen seventy eight. Yeah, like where's my thyroid medicine?

29:56 Ninety seven is a bad year for superhero movies because you have two big ones that come out that were expected to do well and they didn't, which is Batman and Robin and Spawn. Yeah s b Spawn, which, in. All honesty, if you think about it, Spawn kind of has more of a in tow line with Blade for the R ratedness of it, even though I think it was released as PG thirteen because you got spond was PG thirteen, Bam was GG thirteen in theaters. You could get the unrated on VHS when it came out or DVD. Because Spawn Spawn was nasty. Spawn's got the nasty moments. Oh yeah, Well, I watched the cartoon series on HBO and that was freaking brutal. Oh yeah, the first episode about the ice cream with the ice cream man that was the molester and the child killer. That fucking yeah, that show is brutal.

30:39 It looks like Spawn was rated R. Oh no PG three man Google sucked. Gemini is just the worst. But yeah, we are talking about Blade from nineteen ninety eight two hours, rated R for strong pervasive vampire violence and gore language and brief. Sexual DAA said vampire violence. Yeah, they said vampire viol. I mean, you know, I don't put anything past those people. Dude. A skateboard kid too is a rated PG for an adolescent punch in the nose. I wish that was my band in high school. Adolescent. Yeah, that's a good one. IVVY synopsis says a half vampire, half mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race while slaying evil vampires.

31:24 Oh my synopsis, Blade, half vampire, half man, along with this human mentor Whistler, protect the city as vampire hunters. You just had to work Whistler in there. The movie is not called Blade and Whistler. It's called Blade Love Whistler. Taglines of this episode or for this movie include the power of an immortal, the soul of a human, the heart of a hero, a questionable haircut against an army of immortals. A warrior must draw first blood, or actually one warrior mustro fers. That's a little bit better. Yeah, Vampire Hunter. I mean that's the one Blade vampire hunt. But nobody knew who Blade was, so honestly, like, that's a very helpful tagline. Sometimes it takes one to kill one. That's a good tagline. Have you given blood lately? That's pretty funny.

32:16 And finally, part man, part vampire, all hero. I don't think that was an official tagline. That's just robocopy. He's a vampire, but he's a vampire. I mean, since that it's kind of Blade, I mean I'm not denying that. Yeah, I mean, where is that part where he shoots the vampire in the dick? I mean he does shoot several vampires in the dick. Actually a blade currently rentable on private fan Dango. I will tell you that Hen and I and a couple of our buddies last night watched the beautiful Warner Brothers four K that they put out. I think it was like about four years ago. At this point looks phenomenal. Dolby atmost really makes you feel like you're there smelling axe body spray and listening to techno music.

32:59 And blood rain, Oh my god, the Fluter. So the director on this film is Stephen Norington. He gets his start directing nineteen ninety four's Death Machine. Oh Yeah, then goes. On to do Blade in ninety eight, so four years after that, then goes on to direct The Last Minute in two thousand and one, and then unfortunately, in two thousand and three he directs The Leave Extraordinary Gentleman, And so ends Stephen Norrington's directing career. The way you flinched, I thought you were gonna say the Golden Compass. I was like, damn. Now that's not to say he did not stop working in films. He does do special effects. So he did special effects for Young Charlock Holmes in eighty five, did special effects on Aliens in eighty six, The Storyteller, Hardware Split Second in nineteen ninety two, the rugger Hower movie, and he did Hardware Yes, Alien three in ninety two, extras just the Beginning in two thousand and four, and as of most recently. En by recently, I mean a decade ago, Harbinger Down in twenty fifteen.

33:51 Man, I wanted, I was so maybe maybe it was it was the amping Harbinger Down just shifted down mean to Harbinger Down. But I remember there were so many interviews and promo going on for Harbinger Down. Yeah, and I wanted, I want it was so excited. It was fine. I've so like. It feels like there was like several movies that unfortunately had h titles that sounded like they were going to be better than they were, and those included Harbinger Down, the Hatred, Hypothermia. Oh, I like Hypothermia fine, but the other one Harpoon with Gunner Hanson, which I Harpoon looked like it was gonna be fun and it's not bad. But I mean, well, I think Harbinger Down had they fell for a trapping that I think is is really silly, which is they made a huge deal out of the fact that they didn't use CGI. Yeah, and I just don't care who put that out.

34:45 Was that? I think, yeah, yeah, it might have been yeah, because I feel like I watched Harbinger Down or no, I watched Hypothermia and Blood Glacier back to back, and that was a pretty disappointing movie. Right. Hypothermia does have some fun things in it, though, I will say that so our writer on the film is also David S. Goyer. He gets to start in nineteen ninety writing the Jean Claude ban damn movie that I actually really. Like called Death Warrant. Oh yeah, Death Prison one. Yeah. Then he does Kickboxer two The Road back in ninety one, he writes Demonic Toys Arcade. So he had a Charlie band Era the Substitute. Not that one though, the Mark Wahlberg one. Oh yeah, uh, kind of like the Fear. Not that one, that Mark Wahlberg one.

35:25 The puppet Masters in ninety four, Crow City of Angels for Versions of Science, Dark City, Sleepwalkers, Nick Fury, Agents of Shield. Yes, the nineteen ninety eight David Hasselhoff Nick Fury movie. What you didn't know about that? No? I think it might be made for TV. I can't remember. You think? Sure sounds like it. The same year he writes Blade. Then he does Freaky Links in two thousand and one, Right, I love Freak, writes Zigzag in two thousand and two, and also directs it. Blade two in two thousand and two, Blade Trinity in two thousand and four, which he is one of the directors on. Batman Begins in two thousand and five, Threshold in two thousand and five, which he also directs, Blade the Series in two thousand and six, Jumper in two thousand and eight, Batman, Gotham Knight, The Dark Knight, Hey Hey, Ash, Whatats your Plan in two thousand and eight, The Unborn in two thousand and nine, which he also directs, flash Forward in twenty ten, Call of Duty, Black Ops in two thousand ten, so he writes for the video game ghost Writer, Spirit Avengeans in twenty eleven, Devil Dolls in twenty twelve, Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel, Constantine, Batman v. Superman, Vader, The Immortal Krypton Terminator, Dark Fight in twenty nineteen, Hulu Raiser in twenty twenty two, A Yes, Del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities in twenty twenty two, The Sandman in twenty twenty five, and Foundation in twenty twenty five.

36:42 That's quite a quite a list, yeah. I would say so. Yeah, there was a there was a Nick Fury movie, in ninety eight with David Hasself as Nick Fury Wow has the eyepatch, I would hope. Moving on down to our cinematographer. Returning to the show, we have theo Van der Sand He gets his start in nineteen sixty nine is the dp On Dropout, goes on to shoot Naked Over the Fence, Q and Q, the debut, Charlotte the Girl with Red Hair, Darlings, Private Resistance, the Assault Crossing De Lancey then does Miracle Mile in nineteen eighty eight, Rooftops in eighty nine, The First Power in nineteen ninety. Oh man, I haven't thought a Future Sport and forever. That's a that's a movie. I remember liking Future Sport. Playing to the. Boat, Played to the Boat in ninety nine. I haven't seen Future Sport in probably a long time. Wow. Art of War in two thousand, Oh my God, Disappearing Acts two thousand, Liberty Stands Still in two thousand and two, which I want to give a shout out to. Liberty Stands Still. Not not an amazing movie, but it's him and the Chick from Jade and Men in black. Why can't I think of her name? All of a sudden, I know who you're talking about. Yeah, Linda, Linda Florentino. Okay, it's basically phone Booth before phone booth. She has something to do with arms, like with with arms dealing, and has a result of like causing the death of like one of his family members. So he ends up taking a position as a sniper rifle with her on a phone, and.

39:57 It becomes a sniper, becomes a sniper. It's a lot of hatred to no whole other being. Yeah. Future Sports Director by Ernest Dickerson. That's right, anew that Yeah, No, Liberty stands still worth a watch, absolutely worth the watch. Yeah, The Marksman, Chaos, The Detonator, hard Luck, The Contractor, Art of War two, Betrayal, Brooklyn's Finus another one that I love. Brooklyn's Finus is fantastic. That's him, Richard gear ethan Hawk. Are all cops like dealing with different fronts of it and whatnot? Like Ethan Hawk's trying to get more money, so he ends up going to like a corruption side of like doing. I think he steals money from Druggulers my mistaken.

40:45 Yeah, oh, one way to do it. Game of Death Gallo Walkers, which I've said before off Mike to Hen already was advertised as Blade in the Old West. It's not. Yeah, Dave has some personal semi food forever. Yes, some pain expendables three and twenty fourteen, the player chi Rag, the recall Armed Response in twenty seventeen, what we do in the Shadows, Dolomite is my name, Cutthroat City Coming to America True Story, Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur in twenty twenty three, Back on the Strip, Deadpool and Wolverine in twenty twenty four, and Paper Empire. In twenty twenty four. Yes, he plays Blade. I'll get into that and into the trap. You never saw Deadpool and Wouverine. I know that it was like the ultimate fan service. They like crammed everything they could in it, which does sound fun.

41:30 Moving on down to our cast, we also have mister Stephen Dorf, who plays Deacon Frost in the film. He gets start in nineteen eighty five on the new Leave It to Beaver, then goes on to be in Different Strokes in Love and War, The Gates in eighty seven, Family Ties, Hiroshima, Maiden in eighty eight, Dino Writer's Empty Nest, Married with Children, I Know My First Name is Stephen in eighty nine, Do You Know? No, really really good thriller that like kind of came and went where Dennis Quaid and his wife move into a new house. Stephendorf is like one of the locals and whatnot and immediately starts putting on that Stevendorff Creek charm and then the Shenanigans start happening.

42:54 Cold Creek, Cold Creek manor Manner. From two thousand and two, two thousand and three. I'll check that out. It's a solid movie. I really like that one. Learning in the Dark in two thousand and five, Shadow Boxer, World Trade Center Botched, Fellon in two thousand and eight, Twelve, The Conspiracy in two thousand and eight, Public Enemies Somewhere, Bucky Larson Born to be a Star in twenty eleven, Oh Immortal Rights of Passage, Break Tomorrow, You're Gone, Officer Down in twenty thirteen, Heatstroke, American Hero Wheeler, Leatherface, Don't Go True. Detective Deputy Old Henry traveling Light Blood for Dust, King of Killers in twenty twenty three, Righteous Gem Zone twenty twenty five, Oh yeah, yeah, and most recently Bride Heard in twenty twenty five.

43:34 Oh y, we still don't seen it. I still want to see that. That's not in theaters at all. No, it's it's. Yeah. Moving on down to our cast. What you skipped like one of my all time favorites, which one Dwarfun Golf. Oh my god, fucking time. How did you think that I was gonna see you get away with me not doing that to you? Yeah, especially every time we watch any movie Steven Stephen Dworf is in, I make some reference to him being Dwarf from Door Fun Golf. Which was Tim Conway of I believe. So. Yeah. Wrapping up our cast, we have mister Chris Christofferson, who plays Whistler in the film. He gets a start in nineteen seventy one with the last movie, goes on to do Cisco Pike in seventy one, which I just watched for the first time recently, which is his second role.

44:15 Gene Hackman plays a cop in that movie, which is why I ended up watching it. Cisco Pike is the story of Christostofferson as a musician trying to basically appease this cop that had like had dirt on him, which is played by Hackman, and Hackman is a fucking slimeball in this movie. I mean, I love me some Slimeball Hackman. Bluem and Love in seventy three, Pat Garrett and Billy The Kids seventy three, Bring to the Head of Alfredo Garcia in seventy four, Alice Doesn't Live Here, The Sailor Who Fell from Grace, Who Fell from Grace to the Sea, Vigilanti Force, A Star is Born in seventy six, Semi Tough Convoy, Freedom Road, Heaven's Gate, Rollover, The Last Horror Film in eighty two. Because he is can. Yep for better or worse whether he likes it or. Not, Flashpoint in eighty four, Songwriter, Trouble in Mine, Last Days of Frank and Jesse James in eighty six. 45:42 Ohoh, He's just got that into you. In two thousand and nine, Powder, Blue Bloodworth, Dolphins Tale, Joyful Noise, Deadfall, which fantastic movie that was The Treeline Angels Sing, Dolphin Tail two, Texas Rising, Traded, Hiccock, The Star in twenty seventeen, Lols Revenge in twenty eighteen, and Blaze in twenty eighteen. We unfortunately lost him last year September twenty eighth and twenty twenty four undisclosed. Why but at age eighty eight? Wow? Yeah, I mean talk about a career. Yeah, and that was just his movie Coreers movies he did. Musician. He was a musician first, right, Yeah, Yeah, that's awesome that he did so much. Also in our cast, we have Donald Log, We've got h my god, this is a loaded cast. We got Donald Log, We've got well. You and I are both fans of Donald Logue. Yeah, So the first time I noticed Donald Logue was on Grounded for Life, that was like as where I like understood, like, oh, here's an actor. And then I remember, like, what rewatched Blade? Yeah, that's the dad, And then I realized he had a lot of interesting roles before that.

46:41 If I remember correctly, he is the meth head gun runner at the beginning of Metro with Eddie Murphy. I think you're right. Yeah, well, well, Grounded for Life had a weird they cast like all movie character actors. Well, they also like couldn't figure out how many kids they wanted the show because at one point, the one brother just disappears for an entire. Oh yeah, Grounded for Life is that's a that's that was like peak like it was a self aware ish sitcom. I really I always loved that one, but like, yeah, I just I just remember I would see cast members from Grounded for Life in the weirdest places because they really seemed to pick oddball film character actors. To be all the leads. So you know, I would just be like watching some like really violent mafia movie and like, hey, it's the uncle from Grounded for Life.

47:30 Kevin. What is it Kevin? Oh? Shit? Hell? Was his name Kevin O'Connor. No, I'm sure, I'm not sure about that. I can't remember. But he's like a softened Michael Shannon. Yeah, he's like he's like Michael Shannon like that, you know, draft dodged or something. He's he's appears briefly in True Romance because we're watching that recently. Oh yeah, he was a tough stuff. He still listen. So what was your first time watching Blade? Oh? Man, that was definitely a VHS blockbuster rental. Everybody was talking about it when came out. It was a very big deal. It was extremely influential. It caused everything to be, for a hot minute, very slick and painted in techno music. Yeah, so much so that I made tons of references to Blade in my first feature film, Marty Jenkins and the Vampire Bitches You did. There's a whole part where he talks about like you got to have your steak, your cross and your techno music. Vampires hate techno music, So that was one one of them, and the other one was like the guy who who makes potions for um, his name was Hummer, Yeah, instead of Whistler because very clever guy. That's me, a very clever guy. But that's but that tells you just how influential it was because I was much more because I was a little movie nerd, so I was much more into like Fright Night and some of the earlier vampire movies. Yeah, and but Blade made a huge, you know impact, being this big, massive action blockbuster with VAMPI.

49:00 Well in the nineties are really weird for vampire movies because they're kind of all over the place because you've got things like Subspecies, You've got things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Innocent Blood, Interviewed the Vampire, John Carpenter's Vampires. They're kind of a little bit like you got a bunch of period pieces too, because Promp servers Dracula. Yeah, it's gonna say, I mean, I feel like the the biggest vampire movies of that period as far as influence, where Brown Stoker's Dracula, Interview the Vampire, and Blade, Yeah, they all made a huge impact on how people understand vampires. But you gotta remember people like to talk about how like hot vampires got with Twilight, But I mean in the nineties we had Forever Night, which was literally like a vampire detective show that I adore. Yeah, big thanks to my buddy and listener Craig Cohen for sending me all three seasons on DVD.

49:44 Not to mention, you also have one of my personal favorite movies, Night Hunter, with I think is that? Is that the one with uh oh uh the guy that played the voice of New York Ninja in the movie I Can't Done the Dragon Wilson. Oh yeah, yeah, it has Maria four y. Yes, that movie's actually really silly fun. Was that post Blade or pre that had to be poor? Yeah, that had to have been like ninety five somewhere. No, you know, maybe it was post Blade, just say. I think it was, but I could be wrong, But I mean, yeah, just like even looking over this list from dust Till Dawn. Ninety six ninety six from dust Till Don's another one that was very influential. Yeah, I mean from dust Till Dawn, Vampire and Brooklyn not really influential, but Broardella Blood Death by Temptation Tracula Dead and Loving.

50:27 It Well, Dracula Dead and Loving It is is the big one tomension because that suggests that people were thinking about vampires a lot. Yeah, spoof got made. Oh yeah, because then hence stan Helsing brought up. Yes I did, but I but I mean, yeah, it's really interesting because yeah, it's just like there they didn't know really what vampires were sticking, but we were definitely into them because we were pumping out movies left and right. Well, I mean they were vampires that looked like they hang out at the mall there. Yes, that was I mean no, but I mean really it was like because it was really I think that had more to do with goth call yeah than anything. Do you remember that? Uh there was a commercial that was around around that time that. Was a bunch of kids on the beach and then one was trying to find his pair of sunglasses. The sun came up and toasted him and it was just like, looks like somebody forgot their ray Band sunglasses.

51:13 I remember that. Yeah, and there are a bunch of vampires. Yeah, yeah, the maam you have really hateful opinions about ray Band. What you're like, there were a handsunglis. There are a bunch of vampires. They sucked the life out of everything. Horrible business practices. But yeah, also I think it's it's interesting to think about this time too, because this is what I was thinking about when I was thinking about the first time watching it. This is also the time still where movies and theaters it still takes about like what a year for it to hit home video? Yeah, year year and a half. Yeah, Because I remember how I saw Blade was I had gone to my buddy's house and his older brother and their friends were upstairs watching Blade. Because I remember I was downstairs and like I saw the empty BHS case for it, and I was like, oh shit, what's David doing, Like, oh, they're upstairs watching Blade? So Taylor and I snuck in and watched like the first opening like five minutes, and that was like all I saw for a couple of years. I didn't see it like till after like two thousand.

52:04 And it inspired your hot topic. Joy. Pretty sure I saw it on TV for the first time, like actually as a full movie, and then eventually thanks to my good friends that around about books like that was one of the first like five like R rated vhs tapes that I bought myself, so like that was like the cool club because I still, like to this day, remember the back of that VHS box because you've got Karen on the back and then you've got like Blade and Silhouette and like like I remember the like verbatim with that back and then it looks like sure, sure, well I mean it And it was. It really was. It was a fun movie. It was a solid action. Oh yeah, Snipes is at his best, even though after rewatching it, I forgot how cheesy he's cheesy.

52:47 He is. He's really silly. But I mean it works. It's a comic book movie. It's a comic book movie. It like, and like we said at beginning of the show, it also gave superheroes again that kind of shot in the arm it needed. Yeah, I didn't know Blade was a you know, a quote unquote superhero till years after I'd seen the movie. Yeah. Now I'm curious. What were the superhero movies after? Real quick in a second, I mean there were, well, we had blank Man before that. God, I love blank Man. Hey, look I'm a crime fighter. Blank Man will come to the show at some. Point, Yes, it will. Let's see two thousand superhero movies, because spider Man is I want to say one, and. Spider Man was early in the two thousands, I believe because that and that was a huge deal. Yeah, two thousand and.

53:30 Two, Super two two, So let's see Watchman. It's a little later. Yeah that was four or five. Yeah, so, I mean, yeah, it was. It was. It was not only a superhero movie. It was a horror film. It was an action movie. I mean it hit a lot of things for if you were a kid a team at that point, this is exactly what you wanted to watch. Well, correct me if I'm wrong. That was really the beginning of the Sony superhero movie which we had Fantastic four movie, Spider Man movies, you know, all that stuff. That was the beginning of that cycle. I don't know that. I don't know that it it resurged all the superhero franchises so much as just well, but Marvel was really popping for a minute. And I think, honestly, it's it's worth mentioning it. And I mentioned this off Mike. This is a very hard R horror movie, hard R Superhero.

54:18 Wow. The R is used very well. Wow rating Yes is actually like freaking out. But no, I mean this is rated R and it's a hard R. Yeah. I oh no, it's it's a very violent, very violent movie. Anytime Deacon Frost says the word fuck, he just has a way of saying it that is just in your face, like, hey, we're doing this. Oh yeah, And all of the violence did for the most part, didn't hold up as far as like gruesome. Well, I mean, because there's plentiful. It's a you got a vampires turning into ash really quickly, but like more of the blood and gore comes from the attacking humans than anything. Yeah, well it so they start exploding. Slicing appendages. Yeah, and so they start exploding.

55:00 Yeah, there's that. But we we open in nineteen sixty seven with the pregnant woman is attacked by a vampire, which is revealed to be Blade's mom. She does not survive, but Blade does and he is essentially born a vampire, well sort of. He's half half vampire, half vampire, half man aka a day walker. He is a vampire. He has all of their strength and abilities, none of their weaknesses, which that's an awesome No, he has their weakness, which one first, Oh, well that's I mean, yeah, there's that. That's a big weakness killing is okay, I mean there's that. Yes. One of the things I liked in some of these over the years, some of these movies where they kind of explore the idea of like a vampire culture in a world where like vampires are a part of it is I always like I've noticed. I wish I could think of an exact example, but there have been several movies where I thought it was really interesting that like the human characters would like take pride in getting old and dying. Yeah, because it was differentiator. It's like I get to get old and die, you know, that's a human thing. They don't do that, And I thought that was interesting just because I think that is I think if we were fighting vampires as a normal part of life, we would value things that, you know, we have that get taken away when you become a vampire, even things that generally we don't love and are afraid of, like on Mortality. But I also love like Interview the Vampire was one of those first vampire movies I saw where it really explored the curse of immortality. Yes, which I you know, I'm kind of on board a little bit of the idea of like, yeah, now just imagine, like everybody dies unless you find someone you love so you

56:33 curse them to I. Mean, vampires in the Green Mile. Do you have a lot in common? Yeah, yeah, I'm so tired. Boss. Do you think though, that the opening is still what this movie is one hundredercent remembered for. Yes, okay, you know, because well I figured we're on the same page. All the opening of Blade is the the blood rave scene. All it is is like what happens when you distill Blade to one scene. Yeah, it's super goth, techno music, opulence of blood spraying everywhere. It's it's so two thousands. I love the way it plays out because you know, we open with we open with you know, Blade, Blade's origin, which is his mom and everything. But then we cut to two people in a car, which one of his Tracy lords and one is what was his name in the Shield?

57:19 Lem Lem? Yeah, Lem in the Shield, and they're driving to a slaughterhouse or yeah it's a slaughterhouse, and they end up end up going into this secret rave in the back of the slaughterhouse that is turning into a blood rave because the dude starts going in there. Tracy Lords leaves him to go dance with this one chick. He's holding her jacket and just throws it to the side, which I forgot about. Yeah, but then yeah, he slowly begins to realize that she wants nothing to do with him all of a sudden. But also blood just starts hitting his hand, and then the DJ behind the booth has this thing behind him says blood bath and then yes, we get the infamous scene of the sprinklers turning on yeah and blasting. And I want to mention I said two thousands, I'm aware of this nineteen ninety eighty. Yeah, this is to the beginning of the two thousands kind of era. Yeah, that that very flashy, very winky. When hot topic was scary, exactly when hot topic was scary, when it was underground, it was like it was on the bottom floor of them all. But it's it's also worth like, did you ever did you ever go to a pham party? Did you ever go to a night did you go to that? Not?

58:23 Not? I've never gone to like a straight up night club. No, No, I actually haven't. Now I've been to a phone party once, but it was it was at a private residence. Oh no, No, I had my period of time where I dated a certain kind of woman and one of them loved clubbing so much, which I generally found so boring. When the birth of clubbing as far as like the nineties, clubbing was like what circing ninety five and up through ninety nine or earlier. Earlier, dude, there were always clubs because there was the disco tech. Well yeah, no, yeah, I'm also thinking to like the party monster era, like I'd got I Meana Saint James.

59:04 We don't have that kind of opulence in Dayton though. But Dayton was known for clubs. They had two very prominent gay clubs in the nineties, Masquerade and fourteen seventies, which literally I got to go to fourteen seventies a couple times. They literally had a an under twenty one floor, a gay floor, and a mixed floor. Yeah, basically, so you could you could pick which one you wanted to hang out on. Was the one that Andy talked about the was it the Foundry? He talked about the Foundry. But we filmed parts of one of Andy's movies at fourteen seventies. Okay, so yeah, in the basement gotcha, But that was after it had moved, so it was no longer at fourteen seventy, but it was still called fourteen seventies. Yeah, but I remember I went to a foam party and they mentioned that on goth night when they would do phone parties, they would diet red. Oh wow, I wonder why so, which my first thought was, I will not be my clothes that night.

1:00:01 I'm ninety percent sure, and I mean I haven't looked it up in a while, but I'm ninety percent sure that, like I read a story a while back that they wanted to actually do a blood rave somewhere. I don't know, with literal blood, with literal blood like pigs blood. I'm guessing pigs blood. Yeah, I have no idea, but. That would be disgusting now. I mean, for the record, it's not like a rave smells great. Yeah, I mean there's that, yes, But the idea of getting hit by like a combo of like axe, body spray, jupe and pennies, which is the smell you would get at a blood rave, Yeah, I'm a pass. I'm a pass. I mean, but they could call it, you know, a hepatitis night or something.

1:00:47 Well, and also uh did you. I can't remember how how soon did you start playing the hit Man games? Was that more later? Way later? So? In hit Man Contracts, which I believe is the second game in the original PS two releases, the first level is a rave at a at a slaughterhouse. Well, yeah, the the pop up rave thing, which wasn't really a thing out here very much, or or I wasn't cool enough to know, was very popular in places like New York and California where there's a lot of like empty space and expensive and and all that. Well, I mean, and that also brings up the the location of Blade, because we never get an actual city, but it also has touches up. Very New York City.

1:01:28 It's New York, and it has touches a San Francisco though, like the beaches and whatnot, especially there's. Beaches in New York. But I mean, like the the the Chinatown look is more San Francisco than the New York I think. So, I mean you might be right, yeah, oh well it's I'm not gonna trust what is it. I'm not gonna trust Gemini. But no it says Los Angeles. Okay, Wikipedia says Los Angeles. I mean the later movies may have actually said it. Now to think about it, it's possible. I can't remean lot on IMDb says Los Angeles. Okay, well shit, so then yeah we are there. But yeah, so the blood race starts and dude's freaking out. Everybody's starting into vampires and completing tracy lords. Everybody's covered in blood, including him.

1:02:11 I like how they're all vamping out to get him. Yeah, when it's like you guys are literally wasting gallons and gallons of blood, but they. Also just start kicking him. They also just start kicking and beating on him like they could have been him or anything. Well, and you know, I thought it was silly until I realized later on when Frost is like basically talking about why he wants to take over the vampire like the world, it becomes clear that the old vampire away was a lot less devil may care about human life, Like they understood that they ate humans, but they also understood they coexist with humans. Yeah, as to where he had that ad to, he was like their cattle, they're just cattle to whatever. And that's one thing I really thought was interesting about the sequence is what what is this scene?

1:02:55 It's a rave inside a slaughterhouse. But they're being like rained down in blode What is that though? Think about that? How wasteful? So imagine that, you know, you went to a rave and they're just like we're gonna pour red wine from the ceiling. Talk about sticky, Yeah, talk about talk about a sticky situation to find yourselfing. But but my point is like it's what you you You would have that thought where you'd be like, why aren't why don't we drink the water? Like why are we just pouring wine? I mean, why are you doing that? And my point is that it suggested a level of wasteful opulence. It was like like a drug party kind of thing, like where it's like we don't care, it's just about the vibe or whatever. It's a showman thing. Yeah. So my point is, though, like, imagine if you could only eat one thing, okay, to survive, not like imagine like lazed potato chips are the only way you can live, so like college, yeah, and but like lazed potato chips the only way you live. And and so if you eat a turkey sandwich does nothing for you, okay, and then you're like there are thousands of people like me, you can only eat lace potato chips, and then you're like, let's go to a club and just get poor laced potatoes ourselves and stomp on them. That's fair and whatever. Yeah, and it's like, yeah, and what's the point of the night? Oh, would have fun and get more laced potato chips.

1:04:15 My favorite thing though, too, is the the technical aspect of doing a blood rave in regards to there's a there's a guy on YouTube that has a thing called Minor Character Theater and he did a whole thing an episode about where he was the plumber for Freak and Frost, and the technical side of them to do this is insane. Yeah you need it would be a lot of work. It could be a lot of work. Yeah yeah. But I tried to take it at face value, and all I could think was like, this is like it's like like you hear those stories about like back in the day, like the heads of like Arab nations would like pour drinking water on themselves and stuff, and you're like, dude, there's not a lot of water. Yeah. And that's the sense I got was that there's this idea that they're like there romanticizing something that's a necessity to live. And it's clear that the older generation of vampires are not like that, not like they don't think that it's just like, oh, blood's just you know, falling out of the sky. So I just thought that was a really interesting thing because obviously it's mainly it's an incredible visual oh yeah, and it and it really fed young people enjoying Blade because that tech, that pounding techno music and and goth culture was really like hitting the hype in the nineties.

1:05:30 Well, I'll say again going back to going back to like this is an R rated movie, Like that's something that really sets that tone there where it's just like, oh yeah, that's fucking gross and that's that's extreme. Yeah, But at the same time, it's it's blood without context, so it's not really violent you per se, Yeah, kind of like Evil Dead two. I was like, well, the blood's coming out of the house, so how violent can that be? And the NBA was like. X so naturally, the dude starts freaking out, he's trying to escape, he's crawling on the ground while they're kicking him, and he ends up running right into Blade, except he does not touch him at all. I did notice that last night. He just barely gets to him and looks up and yeah, Blade starts going to town on these vampires. Yeah, and I did not remember all the weird winks and and uh and goofiness. Yeah, but uh it's pretty silly and fun.

1:06:13 Yeah, because you got Donald Logue, who he gets all these guys and he ends up getting his arm chopped off and he ends up getting pinned to the wall by the stakes. Like Blade basically goes through this room like within I would say about a minute a half time. That's like a minute or so. Yeah, and he's clearly got like he's not only a badass, he has all the ways to kill them like Holster. Yeah. Well, I mean I love the scene, but like when they move into that little circular room because he's like jumping on the ledge, he's going off the wall and whatnot. But yeah, he ends up Quinn is Donald Lowe's character. He pins him to the wall with two steaks, and he's just like, you know, I'm getting tired of like chopping your limbs off, so I thought I'd try fire this time, sets him a blaze and walks away as the cops raided the place. Which you know, a lot of the problems in this movie. If he had just like a normal vampire, yeah, instead of like savoring tormenting him, we wouldn't have a lot of the problems.

1:07:00 The one thing that I realized watching this last night, everybody gets kidnapped in this movie. Yeah, some multiple times. Oh yeah, that's a kidnapped forward kind of film. Really. Yeah, that's a good point. So so yeah, they end up they end up taking Donald Doug's body out to a morgue, and that is where we meet Karen, who is a blood specialist at this hospital. He metologist. Yeah, and she is with her ex boyfriend Curtis, who comes in and he's like, hey, well they work together. Yeah, I've got something weird for you to come and like come down and see this body. And so they're examining it. And I really like this scene because even though yeah, they're cutting open a corpse and like talking about their relationship, this is just a normal thing for them, Like this is an everyday thing.

1:07:42 For I thought you meant like fighting about their relationship. This is a normal thing. It's pretty sad. So you're cutting open and burned corpse, okay, fine, but no, like that's their job. So I mean the fact they're having relationship talks and stuff is it's pretty cool to have that in the movie. I think, Oh, I thought you'd be like again because communication is so important, you just keep not referred to the works the cor No, no, no, it's it's a cool scene because the first joke I thought of when we were watching it was like, uh, it was like, first question, have you ever doubted us? Second question to lunch. Yeah. But Quinn ends up not being dead, of course, so he ends up attacking Curtis, bites him, even bites Karen, and right at this point, Blade shows up at the hospital and tries to savor. The cops start firing on him, which is my favorite of his interactions for going, well, the fuck are you out of your damn mind?

1:08:28 This is They shoot him in the bullet proof best thing. I love it. He has a bulletproof vest. But don't worry, it's sculpted to look like muscles. Yep, yes that he needed help. No, this is peak snipes, Oh yeah, this is man in every direction. Yeah one basically comedy wise Fucking pastor fifty seven Boiling Point Drop Zone Murder at sixteen hundred and this is right before Art of War, which is one. Of my favorites Demolition Man. He was ripped in. Yeah. So but yeah, the cops shoot at him, he yells at them, ends up grabbing Karen. There's a whole crazy scene where he up throwing her across the street really far and dislocates her shoulder. Yeah, but he's a gentleman, so he puts. It, puts it right back in. Yeah. But then also the cops are shooting at him while he's carrying her to safety, like, and you even pointed out last night, really good shots too, because they're shooting with a gun across a long leave of street.

1:09:17 Ye, they're shooting with like they make it seem like this automatic gun. And he's he's like too like a building over and down and they're like coming close to hitting. Oh yeah, they were like the anti Stormtroopers. They were very good, very good. So Blade ends up taking Karen to the hideout where Whistler is played by the great Chris Christofferson. And this is one of my all time favorite roles of it is he's such a bad ass in this movie. Yeah, well, and he's an effortless badass. You never really, not until the third act, yeah, or near the third act do you see him do anything badass other than just exist. Exist? But he's so good. So he's just like one of my favorite lines off bringing strays home now because he's brought Karen and he's trying to save her because she's been bitten.

1:10:00 There's a window of. Time they have for her to not transition, so they're going to try to save her by injecting her with straight up garlic. Yeah, garlic extra. It's like, yeah, garlic extra essense of garlic or something. Yeah, which is which is an interesting and clever concept. Yeah, Like I always thought, like, wouldn't the cure be like holy water, although this one there's no holy water. Yeah, they don't do that there, We don't do that. We'll do that here. But but yes, the injector with that, hoping that it'll slow the spread and potentially stop it. Yeah, because uh yeah, it's one of those things they skip a lot of my favorite vampire lore. But I'm totally okay with it. Yeah. Well, I like the fact that when he injects her, like her her bites actually kind of like steam a little bit. Oh yeah, No, it's like have an effect on it, and I love that the way they can tell how she's doing is how fast her wounds are healing.

1:10:41 Yeah. So so it's the opposite of the normal thing where you're like you're like, ah, these aren't closing up at all, this is bad. Instead they're like, these are closing up really fast. This is really bad. So we see also that Whistler is a Blades mentor. He makes the weapons and he uses them, as Blade says, that's what I love. He makes the weapons I use. It's a good it's a good setup. He makes the weapons, I use them. He has a lot of that very matter of fact like, like, was that line where she was like, uh where she was like, so there's no cure and I was like, I'm shocked he didn't say, I am like, I was waiting for him to say it. He didn't. Yeah, but I was like, that would totally be something Blade would say. So now we we cut over across the city to the pure Blood Vampire location, which is all of them sitting at a long ass table led by Udo here.

1:11:23 Of course, and and again and Udo Kiir at his most Udo kiri. Yeah, I love the joke. We riffed last night where it was just like all right, to beatru vampire, you must fuck life from the golf line. Like yeah, yeah, we get the gallbladder thing again. We've heard it. We got it, we got it. So I don't think that's true. It's not true. So they expressed that they are basically upset with Deacon Frost because Decon Frost is in the waiting room, he gets brought into the chamber and they're basically like your clubs are we have like they're they're making a bad name for us. The cops are on to us, like, you know, you can't keep treating this shit like like it like this is okay, Like we in the shadows to exist with humans. We can't be like showcasing this shit.

1:12:04 Yeah, and we get the sense that basically what we have here are what are basically vampire elders of these elder sects of vampires, and Frost is an upstart sect in a way he's mohammed. And in a way yes you could say. Praise be unto him, but he is he's an upstart, Like he's an upstart sect. He's a new sect, which they don't really he's young blood yeah, well, and he's not a pure vampire because he was turned. And that was one of the first vampire lore elements of Blade that I remembered right away when I was rewatching it. As I even asked you, I was like, in this, if you're born a vampire, you're a full vampire. They don't take as much value. And if you're turned, which is not a common vampire thing. The other vampire things, the vampires aren't born. They're the only way they procreate is by infecting the living, and this one, they're a little bit more like a race, which is an interesting take on it too.

1:13:00 Well, And this is Frost's whole explanation of like, you know, the humans are cattle. We shouldn't be, you know, buddying up with them. We should be owning them. We should be feeding on them. We should rule this fucking world, is his whole thing. We're apex predators, we should rule it. Which is a funny way to look at it when it's like, you know, what would really keep the blood supply great if the most of the humans died and lived in and and and fear and we're aware of you to protect themselves. Yeah, I think that's a little dumb. Yeah, I would say so. But but but that's the thing. Frost is brash as to where when he talks to the other vampire leaders, they're very thoughtful, they're clearly educated. I mean they're probably three four, five hundred years old too, but they're like very thoughtful, educated, aware of the history. But then we find out really soon after that Frost is like hanging out in the archives where the vampires keep all of their like religious artifacts of sorts, the vampire the history of it. Yeah, yeah, but he's obsessed with translating parts that have never been translated. It can't be translated because there's no one to translate it. Yeah, because it's a sad whole lang. Yeah, but I would say undead language.

1:14:03 But but it's funny because that's also really interesting for young upstart because what's he doing. He's doing something that literally everybody else already knows you can't do, and he's like, I think I can though, which would rub them the wrong way too. They'd be like, why would you be able to do it and not you know, three thousand years or whatever a vampire? You know history, Why couldn't we have done it? If you can do it. Yeah, but he also is like using technology. There's a lot of elements of Frost that are very youthful futureh ism, like like his focus on computers, his focus on technology, but also his focus on opulence, his focus on narcissism. Which I was trying to place that because it's the nineties, so we're past the like the nineteen eighties yuppie thing.

1:14:47 But I feel like there's probably a theme that I might not be picking up on because I grew up in the nineties, but I was, like, you know, in nineteen ninety eight, I was I was like thirteen or whatever. It's kind of fascinating too, because like if you if you think about it, like Deacon Frost is he's really in over his head, but he'll never admit it. Well, no, he's he's literally pure avarice. Yeah, I mean, that's that's all he is. That's why they look down on him. They're like, of course you're this way because you're young, you know, like, of course you are. Of course. My first thought when it was like we were born vampires, like, oh, why are you old? That's fair? It's fair. I mean, why are you old? Why aren't you all just babies. Yeah, creepy babies, vampire babies.

1:15:29 That's the movie. So but yeah, so he ends up kind of getting scolded by Udo Kir's character, and that leads us into going back to Karen, which we find out that Karen wakes up the next day and seems to be okay. She doesn't know where she is, obviously, so she ends up like sneaking out. She hears Blade and Whistler talking, tries to escape, they hear her, and that's they basically explain to her, like, you know, you're written by a vampire. We think we've got it, but there's no guarantee. Yeah, and and and while Blade seems very hopeful, Whistler is very detached. Yes, And I think it's because he's like, I don't want to talk to you and realize you're a nice lady, yeah, and then have to kill you because his entire backstory is people he loved were killed or became vampires and had to be killed. Yeah. So I like that element too, because as she is around more and more, he starts to be because he mentions like she's a hematologist. Yeah. And as soon as they start to have a little bit of rapport he's like, I'd really love you to look at what I've been doing with these blood serums and stuff, because she's an expert.

1:16:31 So he's like really like wants to befriend her. Yeah, but he's so afraid. He's like, great new friend to kill well. Because they basically she's like, you know, well in my prisoner Haerent's like, no, you're free to go and blades like you know, but just so you know, like since the vampires know that, you know, now they're coming after you. Oh god, yay, So like you know, get a gun and also like if you start turning, like if some light starts affecting you, like use it on yourself because you're you're not gonna want to be a vampire. So yes, she ends up. She ends up leaving and goes back to her apartment. There's a cop that is well, there's a whole little section where she's on the elevator and she sees these markings that we started to see that the vampire markings of ownership. Which I like that because it's one of those things where like once you know about something, you see it every everywhere. You realize that it was already there was ubiquitous.

1:17:16 Yeah, so she's, you know, paranoid whatnot. He gets to her apartment and this cop is, this cop is comes into the apartment later and he's like, you know, hey, we heard like that your worker said that you were kidnapped. And she's like, what about my other my other worker, And he's like, oh, Curtis he unfortunately passed and he's like, well, you don't have to worry about that. And she's like why and he's like, because you're dead too, revealing that he's working for the vampires. But she thinks that he's a vampire, so she prays him. She sprays him with garlic, sprays yeah, pepper spring whistler and gave her yeah yeah, garlic mace and I love his reactional garlic. What do you think about vampire? And then Blade's just right there, yeah. Well and I love it too because we said this last night. He's just fucking up her apartment with with hating this guy, like throwing him all over the. PI, the third piece of furniture he breaks. She even goes, is this necessary? She even says it is this necess because my first thought was like, can't you just punch him really hardly? Three times.

1:18:03 Yeah, because we find out that he's basically an Aaron boy for the vampires. He's not turned up familiar, he's a cop. He's a cop that's working for them. He deals blood and takes it to the locations needs to. So Blade ends up letting him go essentially because she's going they have him at the car trunk because they find the blood that he's carrying, and Blade's about to shoot him in front of everybody, everybody like yeah in the city. So she ends up intervening. He ends up getting away, and Blade's like, you know, you got to wake up like this, this whole world that you see, like this is just a sugarcoated fantasy, Like this is actually the real, dark, deep shit that's going on between here, and if you don't wise up, you're going to be one of the next. And then just pants over to Tommy Lee Jones and uh and uh, what's his name? Will Will Smith? And Tommy Jones is like he has no idea sport.

1:18:48 So Blade ends up trailing the cop, which I think is I think his name is Crease if I'm not mistaken, and he ends up they end up following him to another club because now Karen's just gonna be working with him because she's like, you know, well, I can't be safe unless you're with me at this point yause I'm probably dead meat. Well, she's also pretty bad at him. She's like, I was bait and he's like, get over it, Yeah, get over it. So yeah, So he ends up following him to another club, and this leads us to a scene where Deacon Frost is we see him in the archives of Udo. Kir's character comes up to him and he's like, you know, why are you translating the text? Like it's a dead language, like no one can translate it, and Frost just has his headphones in is ignoring him, and d Care goes, damn, Frost. I'm talking to you. Yeah. It's like, Dad, you don't get it, okay, and he answer slapping him.

1:19:30 Yeah. Yeah, so and and so if I'm remembering correctly, so, because this movie it's great. Yeah, but it's basically Blade in this woman and kind of like the undercurrent is she's going to become a vampire, and then also that Blade wants to kill all vampires. Yeah, and then the b story is basically the internal beef in the vampire world. With frost usurping power until they combined. Yeah, obviously they're going to intersectfully. Combined quite a bit. So yeah, like, uh so he ends up taking Blade to uh a place where you can access the archives. Yeah, it's so they takes him to this bar because you follow it. He followed Kreeger's his name, not cree It follows Kreeger to this bar, which is uh there there's a there's a bunch of vampires that are out front of the valetser vampires, the dormant or vampires inside there's a vampire show going.

1:20:21 On, yeah, which is creepy. Yeah. It's literally almost all Asian businessmen watching little two school girls girls singing bands. Yeah. Yeah, I I felt ways. I was just like, uh okay, but they do they do point out that there's like they don't say it, but I mean it's very clear that there's no real racial line. Yeah, with vampires, there's because like in the leadership space, there are vampire leaders from all over the world. You know, they're they're black ones, white ones. Uh you know, I don't I didn't see a single Hispanic one. I think those are in the second. No, you know why two Catholic can't beat him fair, so I'm proud. So Kreeger sees Blade, of course, and he run. He starts running, Blades right behind him. He ends up kicking his ass in the kitchen and he's like, you know, where are where are the archives?

1:21:13 Like where were you taking the blood to? And he's like, it's in the freezer and Blade thinks he's fucking with it, so he beats him up another time. He's like, no, man, I'm serious. So Blade opens the door and we just see this cavern. Yeah, and he just goes down into this like Bruce Wayne Level cave, yeah, Barbarian cave. Yeah. Yeah. So they end up following it down there, and that's when we run into Pearl, which is this gelatinous Java the Hut esque creature, like like it's a. Larger bodied individual. David, my apologies, please be careful, you know words, wait till you hear. What the how they had to put Pearl in this movie in regards to the set design. So this was a disturbing scene I remembered even as because she's literally so big that she can't get up, she can't walk or anything, and she just I'm assuming that they just feed her blood and like while she sits there.

1:22:05 Cut out, cut out plot element with children. It was like specifically eight children, so. You're gonna be like, you're gonna like uh uh blood and large like it was cut but. Yeah, specifically like Bobby Yaga, the children. I think there's a whole element of like the hell boy lore that Bobby Yaga strictly a children. That's kind of the same thing. With Bobby Yaga was like the like the Boogie the Woman Boogieman, and some cultures and stuff like that. The the Brujas of Portugal and Spain, which my grandpa used to tell me all the scary stories you heard about, which is supposedly living Oh yeah in the village you grew up in. Yeah, his grandma used to tell these stories about that and the uh I don't know the Portuguese. I don't speak Portuguese. I don't speak Portuguese. But uh he's it's the uh Omre Dessaco is what they call him in Spanish cultures. That's how I learned about him later.

1:22:58 But my grandpad tell me the stories like there was no no flavor either. I mean he just told them to me as a little kid. So we didn't use any Portuguese words. He was just like this guy with a sack, sacks full of kids body parts. And I remember because my Grandpa would tell me. I'm like whoa, And then when I got older, I'd be like remember that story about the guy with the sack. He was like yeah. I was like, you didn't wander away from grandma much, did you? And he was like hell no, he was like five. Yeah. Yeah. She's just like yeah, yeah it was they just picked some guy. Yeah, walking out street. You had a sack and'd be like full of children's body parts, like bad god body parts. So so Pearl has like monitors in front of her, is also translating the vampire text as well, and also has Deacon Frost like basically on video chat and starts freaking out.

1:23:43 Because blades here. I guess they have reflections. Yeah, I guess. So, so starts freaking out because like, oh my god, blades here, Frost, you said you protect me, And of course Deacon's like, you know, hey, Pearl, you know shit happens, like die with some fucking dignity. Sorry, and did they interact with Blade briefly? He's just like hey, Blade, I've already been looking for me, and Blade's like, yeah, I'm gonna find you. See and he's like yeah, okay, closes the laptop. Basically, I love by the way side really quick side note when he's talking to what's her Karen? Karen? Yeah. When he's talking to her, he says at one point like, forget all the bullshit you've heard in movies. These are real, And all I wanted to respond with was like, what bullshit? I'm not a freaking nerve. I kind of wanted to say that just because I'd be like, Hey, I'm the one sitting here in my living room alone watching Blade well.

1:24:25 And I also love to because we we glossed over it. When they go back to see Whistler the initial time after the first running with Kreeger, he gives him this UV flashlight thing that he's been working on, and there's my favorite exchange where he goes, pretty, it's still so heavy, Well you're so big. He just looks like like, just well you're so big. Yeah, No, they're and they're they're back and forth. Is so good and it's so solid and it's very it's very. Mentor well, but it's it's more than that, because like I said, there's definitely Whistler has this degree of separation. Yeah, but it's clear that Blade has broken that. Yes, but Whistler, but it's almost like that's his personality now too, because it's been so long. Yeah, so he's just used to it.

1:25:08 He knows that, Like Whistler's never gonna like give me a hug or anything. But Whistler will like he'll you know, I'll know by when I when I got into a really bad fight and I walk in there, I can see the concern on his face. He wants me to be okay. Yeah. So well it's a really. Sweet and Blade Blade not only you know this says the comment about you know, he makes the weapons I use him, but also like Blade's aware that like Whistler's kind of dying because Whistler has cancer. Not kind of dying, dyes, dying dying ye yeah, yeah, which I guess that's why he was. He wasn't holding back on those Marlboroughs. Yes, not no, there's light one hundreds because that's it actually did was it just the box? The box? But also the cigarettes look like like one hundreds, I will say. Because usually they hide the you know they they don't show the actual logos. Yeah, at one point, at one point in the movie, you briefly see like the outline of Whistler's cigarettes's smoking, and then you also see the cigarette at one point, and uh, they look like light one hundreds. And I was telling the guys last night. For Whistler to smoke those, I just doesn't seem like his character, like Marlboro reds all the way.

1:26:02 I just imagine it was like my little Asian lady doctor told me, I can't smoke the strong ones no more. At least it wasn't a pipe, which they totally could have smoked a pipe. Oh my god, that would have destroyed him. Cigar would be more fitting, obviously. Oh but I think the only person that smokes cigar and this is Donald log. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I can imagine he has a beautiful humid or of Dutch masters and white owls. I choose from so back to Pearl. Pearl's freaking out obviously, and blades like you know what what is in this vampire text they see? We see this diagram basically of this cube that closes and they go down in this cavern and like there's gonna be like several people sitting around the circle with one person in the middle that's gonna inherit this power.

1:26:44 Like that's all really that we can tell. So, yeah, it's a kind of it's a prophecy, like a like a end of time. Yeah, prophecy thing. Yeah, And it's pretty obvious even before he fully says it that the reason Frost is so who gives a shit about Blade is because he needs Blade to blade. He wants Blade around. Yeah, Blade's part of his plan. It. Yeah, very obvious because Frost is while he is reckless, he's not crazy. No, he's not. That's very clear that he's calculated. Yeah. So, uh, Pearl ends up getting killed because the UV light get ends up getting used and ends up frying because Karen is the one handling it and tortures Pearl. So she dies because someone kills her. Yeah, yeah, dies because someone kills her. Dies because the UV light fucking melts her. Yes, yes, boy does it.

1:27:25 Probably smells wonderful to me? Oh well, I mean there are so many smells in Blade I can only imagine, but prefer only imagine. So but but while the before the death happens, like Blade's asking questions and it's just like, Okay, well you don't mind that if I go in this room right here where this door is, blows this door open to the Archives after Pearl is dead, revealing all the vampire texts of the Bible in glass cases. Yeah, so they are right in the heart of all this. While they're looking around and like he's explaining it to Karen, we see this little girl literally running around the archives and Blade catches onto it and he starts following her and goes to help her, only revealing that it's a t because now Donald log and his goons have showed up and they are ambushing them and actually start beating Blade and even taking the sword.

1:28:07 Yeah, which reveals that his sword has a trap mechanism, which we saw foreshadowed earlier. Yeah, which blows a guy's hand, blows a guy's hand off. I love Donald Logue just becoming a molted milk dud throughout this movie, and like the moment he heals a little bit, he just even more sucked up. Yeah, because not only does that so they got the guy's hand gets completely blown off and Donald Loag is just laughing about it. But then we also see that Blade obviously never leaves without backup. So Whistler is close by blows a hole in the side of this building with one of my favorite lines. Which just catch you fuckers at a bad time and and I love that. The only things I know about Whistler are he has cancer, yeah, and he doesn't believe in cover. He does not anytime he's fighting. He stands in the middle of the room just shoot, just shuting gun. Yeah. Yeah.

1:28:50 So he just starts laying waste to the rest of of Deacon's men and whatnot. Blade and Karen end up escaping out into this area that is a huge subway tunnel, so they are like grabbing the side of this, hugging the side of this is these trains are going by like every few seconds, and this leads into a chase with the other vampires coming after them. There's a whole fight that occurs between donald Logue and Blade, but also we see Whistler go down into a manhole at one point, so he escapes. Fine, very ninja turtle, very ninja turtles, Like I wanted him to drop that. So this also leads us to Blade literally taking Quinn Donald Logue running his head against the train as it goes past only after he chopped his arm off again again again.

1:29:34 Yeah yeah. Donald Logue is highly memorable in this, and he keeps not dying, keeps getting really really hurt and then not dying. So they end up jumping onto the back of the train with Blade grabbing the black back of the train while holding onto Karen, which was wow yeah, which I love it too because they also they don't show anything after that. He just grabs onto it and it's gone. Well, we see him whip a bit, which was what made me go, ho shit, it was really cool. Yeah. So Kreeger ends up returning to Deacon Frost's hide out with injured Quinn, who is pissed off and out at this point too. And uh, Kreeger ends up getting killed because he's pissed Deacon off at this point and that's when the whole interaction. Deacon would just kill a guy, throws. Him in his little uh what is it infinity pool he's got out front of his house, the apartment. Yeah, with the ducky flipping. Did you see, by the way, what they're watching on TV? Like, well, the parties there, it's Mortal Kombat. It's the first Mortal.

1:30:24 Kombat movie d D D D D d D. So Deacon's host Anmmortal Kombat party. Wouldn't you, I mean if you were a vampire? Oh yeah yeah. So that is when we also get the reveal that, uh, basically, Deacon Frost, with his little whole shindig thing, is trying to awaken the blood god Lamagra, and Lamagra can only be awakened basically by using Blade's blood because that is the chosen One's blood. What would we find out? I like that the name is Lamagra after it's like it came from a dead language and then you guys translated it and then it became Spanish sounding. I yeah, But I like the the reaction though, when they're like, like when the lead vampires hear that, they're just kind of like, you're trying to summon Lamagra a fairy tale, which I thought that was just a really cool. Side notice that it's like, oh yeah, people whisper about that, but nobody.

1:31:16 Believe nobody believes it. Yeah, but well, because they also need the twelve pure blood vampires along with Blades for this this ritual to go, which leads into Quinn being like, you know, why are we keeping this guy alive, like why why can't we just kill him? And he's like I need Blade and like, you know, when the time comes, we'll kill Blade, but like you know, till now, just chill out, which then was the great cut because you have Deacon and and Donald Loglake face to face, and then we cut over to the scene where there's two faces in a car like kissing, but it turns out it's Mercury Deacon Frost's woman. Yeah. Yeah, So we reveal that they've kidnapped Udo Kir's character, the the like head chancellor vampire guy, and they're going to cook his ass in the sunlight. Yeah yeah, Well they're not just making out. They're putting on the sun prified sunscreen. Yeah, that would be I just want to get a bronzer on. But it's like they're wearing it and it's so thick and it makes them look even more ghoulish, which is pretty cool. And this whole sequence where he kills zudo Kire is really interesting.

1:32:14 He's just talking to him and then slowly starts undressing him, yes, which is interesting. Well, not to mention, he steals his fangs because he needs to have proof that like he's in charge. Now he rips his fangs, he defangs him. Yeah, literally, because. Deacon is just like, you know, oh yeah, how long has been you've seen a good sunset? Oh that's right, you're up here blood like you've never seen him had a pleasure. Well, guess what, we're gonna enjoy it together. Yeah, And he basically is like Frost, like you're never gonna win, and he's like, you just don't fucking get it. So he takes his teeth and they put on biker helmets and biker gear to protect themselves while udo Kre just opens the arc of the Covenant. When the sun melt splode, Yeah, he melts blows melt slow, yes, yes, and right around the same time, by the way, although it's not like a scene worth breaking up a ton, Karen is with Blade, who's hurt, and he ends up injecting himself with the serrum, and that's where we get full confirmation that he's a kind of vampire. She says, you're one of them, and he says, no, I'm something else.

1:33:03 Well, because he earlier in the movie, like very early on, he goes to see this guy that has the garlic shop and whatnot, like the yes, and shop. And that's when we get the idea that he's like, you're a week early, and he's like, yeah, I need it already. I was afraid you would get a tolerance, you'd build a tolerance. So he's injecting a kind of garlic serum himself. Yeah, and it seemed like what he injected himself with that was like blood to give him power, because we find out, you know, very soon that Whistler found him, he was killing people when he. Was youellmeless people, yeah, and homes. And Whistler ended up taking him under his wing and trying to figure out ways to help him not be a full blown almost killed vampire. Yeah yeah, well and and well, and I'm sure he was ready to shit himself when he saw him walk in the daylight. Probably, yeah, that would be that would be the bad day when just like I had vampires and then one's just walking out of the seven eleven, You're like fuck yeah.

1:33:51 So so yeah, we also get around this time that Karen. It's a hilarious scene because Karen's just like, you know, yeah, I want to show you something, and she like puts this test together with dropping this one drop on the slide under the microscope and Blade goes look in the microscope completely. Tells him like, step back, it's highly reactive. He's like, it was down and it blows up, and Whistler is highly amused, which which I like that too because it plays off the idea that Blade is a little comically serious. Yeah, by having that moment where even Whistle yeah, should have listened. To her kid and he's just like, you know, this is a Karen. She's like, well, no, I thought maybe you could explode some vampire heads with it. I love that lie, Not not exactly, I figured you could explode some vampire heads with its. Like.

1:34:33 So this leads then to Blade going or to Deacon going to the board and basically tells them I'm in charge now at this point and essentially kidnaps them from this point. Yeah yeah, so change of pace, he starts kidnapping. Kidnap have you movie man? So uh. That is when Karen is confident, though also with what she's doing with Whistler, that they are able to hopefully fight a cure for Blade, but they don't know well for her hopefully Blade and hopefully Blade, yeah, for her specifically because yeah, because. She's so early in her infection there's a higher likelihood. Well, and Whistler even says at one point, because she's in the bathroom and you can see that she's weak, and he's like, you know, you don't look so good, and he goes to peel the band aid back and he's like, I guess we didn't catch it in enough time.

1:35:15 I'm sorry, maybe two. Yeah, so she is kind of down to the clock at this point. So this leads into Blade is walking the street looking for Deacon, gets like a spiky sense almost daylight daylight. Yeah, he's in the daylight looking for Deacon Frost and it gets like a spidy sense. And across the street we see Deacon is you know, looking at him, but also has like a little girl that he's holding on too. And it's in Chinatown. Yeah, so here's the thing. I didn't get a sense of a spidy sense. What I got was that that feeling I could see like you're. Being watched, hunted. Yeah, you know, you know, a sunny Land and predator. The edit is just weird because like you have kind of like the and like zooming and then it's just well because.

1:35:57 Because he's across the street, and they use it's very Jaws like they're using the passing trucks, yeah, to like help kind of separate things and cut back and forth. Yeah. So but I just got the sense that it was more than he just knew like something dangerous as watching me, and that's like built into you to know that. So Deacon, uh, you know, is just like wow, bled, like I can't believe in front of you. Like he's kind of like a big fan like kind of thing almost, And it tells him that, you know, he wants to make a truce. He doesn't want to fight him, He doesn't want you know, he wants to be able to be able to come together and they can have this you know, bond and like he can use them, they can they can rule the human race together. And Blade straight it was just like no, fuck you, dude. Well, and he's also played to think he's like, what you think the humans will ever accept you? Yeah, Like I'm your shot at being accepted. Yeah, I'm the one person who would believe you're totally cool with me. Yeah, And even with the haircut and and.

1:36:46 Blade rejects him, and Deagan gets pissed. He ends up throwing the little girl across the street into a hot dog cart that like just breaks apart when she hits it. No, she's like, it's a full blown like slams, shatter, and and so he shoots it, Deacon, and that's when. We see bullet time bullet time pre matrix. But also it's we have never seen a vampire do that before, so it suggests that Deacon's into something. He's got something going on, something's going on where he's becoming really powerful. Yeah, So he goes to save little girl, she was hit by a bus. He saves her, He's like, you know, get home. So by this point now he knows that him and Deacon are going to have to have a showdown. So this all leads to back to the hideout where we see that Karen and Whistler are still there and unfortunately Deacon and his men invade.

1:37:30 Yeah, and Whistler kicks some serious ass, but there's just too many of them fucking drops that gun from the top of that light man. Yeah, it's just it was just it was just it was one of those hanging fluorescents yea, and it was just on top of it was a full blown shot full of vampire killing round. Yeah. And he gets a couple. Karen even gets one too, but unfortunately Deacon his men seize them, so Blade ends up coming back. He comes back to. See Whistler is covered by this bloody sheet, which I love because I found out in the trivia he actually is looking away because he was laughing every time he pulled it down. So that's why he's doing that, like it has dramatic effect in there, but yeah, every time you want to do it, like either him or Christofferson would start laughing apparently okay, so but yeah, Christofferson's just like, you know they took Karen. You know I've I've been you know, I'm I'm I'm dead, So go ahead and give me your gun and then walk the fuck away is basically what he says. And I love it too because while Whistler's like explaining, like, you know, you got to stop Deacon, he's got the pages like he's gonna summon.

1:38:24 At this point, Blade's just wiping the blood off his neck and like off these spots. Yeah, as he's talking and. He's trying to convince him like maybe it'll be okay, these aren't so bad, and he's like, nah, maybe, Well, and the saddest, sweetest part. This is the scene that stuck with me forever after I first saw it. Yeah, is he tells him give me your gun, and then he's like, now just walk away, Like he doesn't even want him to have to witness this. He's like, you've seen enough. Yeah, walk the fuck away. Yeah, So he walks away. We hear the gunshot go off, we see the hand drop with the gun. So now Blade is assembling for the final showdown and he's getting all his toys together, include a motorcycle that he ends up running into Deacon's building. But before we get to that, there's a whole early on at Deacon's party, we saw that he has this coffin bed thing that you were obsessed with because it's like sci fi.

1:39:12 My only problem is that like lowers and locks. Yeah, and I was like, again, it's a coffin, but like, does it serve a purpose besides just being really cool? Yeah? In a white room. So but this woman walked out and like put her hand on Deacon. We didn't really see much of her, but we just see a little bit of her early on. So then they're back at this penthouse. Karen's been kidnapped obviously, and Deacon kidnapping. Deacon's trying to like explain to her, like you know what's going on, and Karen has no, you know, no being She's just like, you know, you're you're just like some two bit crime at this point, like I don't crook, Yeah, stupid, And so he's just like, no, I'm ahead of the fucking food chain, and like you're about to learn along with the rest of the world, like what my power can do. And right at this point we hear that Blade is ambush in the building.

1:39:55 He runs his motorcycle through the glass, starts taking out guards left and right, and cclude using the blood exploders, so pops one into one guy's chest. Pops one very late nineties CGI. Looking like Gusher's commercials, though the vampires explode like Gushers. Yeah, try the new Gushers extreme him a Globin. So this ends up leading Blade into that room with that coffin. The coffin opens revealing Blade's mom. Yeah, his mother's not dead after all, and. Also reveals that Deacon Frost was the one that turned his mother into a vampire and essentially created Blade. Which means basically pulled the Burtons Batman. Yeah, they were like, uh uh, whatever I do, I'll catch who killed my parents. Well, good news, the guy you're fighting did it. He did it. Yeah, how convenient.

1:40:38 How convenient. So naturally, Deacon and his men come in ambush Blade. They kidnap Karen and Blade once again and take them to this huge temple. At this point, did they. Ever establish the idea or suggest in any way that Deacon made Blade on purpose? No, because now that I'm looking back on it, the chosen one, ale Elm and others everything, because how long did he know? He might have known about this stuff for a long time. Yea, it's entirely could have play. And then also there's that whole part earlier races like I know everything about you, your mother Whistler like he's like, I'm a big fan, I know everything. Party's like, maybe he's just been maybe because he knew his starting point. Yeah, he could follow it very well, could be so.

1:41:18 Yeah, So they take them to the Temple of Eternal Night at this point, and we see Blade is taken up to the top of the temple and put into this chamber that basically cuts him open, drains all the blood into this really articulate, like little cylinder that drains down onto the twelve vampire. Uh yeah, and his mother is used to basically push him into into that, and she's trying to in a very incestuous way, trying to convince him, like it's time to just be a vampire. It's time to like lean into this stuff. It's a really great scene, not much to talk about because it's it's just intense. Yeah, and it's visually is where it's at because basically the chamber closes, the blood starts going. We see so many different ways of this blood is coagulating and dripping down onto them. But also Karen is thrown into a pit inside this temple where Curtis from the movie This is I like that scene, but like it's kind of a weird callback.

1:42:08 Yeah. Basically, he'd been thrown into a pit where he's barely fed. He's a vampire zombie. Yeah, yeah, he'll eat anything, vampires anything, And. He comes at her and then she climbs up and that's it, which. Is important to point out though he's been a like he was infected like three days ago. Yeah, yeah, and he's been in this pit for three days and has to figure out that he can climb out just like Karen. That was funny when she just kind of grabs a femur bone, knocks him down and times out. But I also get why she was able to beat him him he's weak. Yeah, and they assume that she will not be able to carry your own because she's mostly human and a little tiny lady. But as I know because of my mother, Uh huh, you don't underestimate it, Karen, You don't, You do not, Karen, Karen.

1:42:49 So also we miss too that Blade has the exploding blood injections with him, and Deacon mistakes it for a serum, so he throws it up into the cavern, being like, oh, you're not gonna need this anymore. So the explosive cerems are resting inside the cavern not too far of his read so keep that in mind. Oh yes, yes, so, but yeah, they end up going through the ritual. We see the blood dripped down onto the twelve Disciples. Yeah, that Deacon's girlfriend kills one of the disciples out of anger earlier, and then nothing seems to come of it, like they still everything still works, And I was like, I thought they had to have each one but she like kills him with blade sword. Yeah, like you know, turns into ashes, turns to ashes. Yeah. So that part confused the shit out of me. Oh yeah, wait, but how does it still work when like one of the main guys is gone. Yeah, I mean Deacon Frost.

1:43:34 Uh, he has a lot, like you've already said, he has a lot in common with Joker's henchman kind of thing. Like there's a lot of that similarity there. Yeah, he has a lot kind of Joker coding in some ways. But he's not crazy, not crazy, but in fact, one of the funny things. And i'll since we're getting to the thrilling conclusion, yeah, I'll mention I knew a lot of people when I was growing up who were obsessed with Deacon Frost. Oh I could see that. I knew a very cringey dude who insisted his nickname b Frost. Okay, he grew up to be David Denyer. No I'm kill you. No, No, I I know Draven, I know you weren't you weren't Deacon Frost Draven? Uh No, But uh, one thing about Deacon he's not I mean, I don't find him to be very cool. He's a petulant child. Yeah, that's probably the biggest you know, kind of character trade he has. Other than being very smart, he.

1:44:27 Literally gets out smart and super simply in my opinion, like that's avarice. I mean, yeah, yeah, that's that's that's he denies that he can because he's fulfilling a prophecy and all this stuff. I mean, that's that's a fair point. But I mean, like he's smart as in he was able to research all this stuff, he was able to get everybody together the way was he had like a plan for everything. But he's also just this petulant, me, me me, narcissistic child. Yea. And even some of the elder vampires say, like, you are all going to die if he when he does what he's going to do. Yeah, like you'll be no different. Well, I love the fact that, like, so when the bloods are driving on the on the elder vampires, you know, they start having like the whole cursed. Thing happened to them. But the fucking demons that literally like open their their skeleton angels. Yeah, skeleton angel like skin their mouths and.

1:45:08 Fly out of flying with no uh no wing. I mean their wings are bones, but it's really awesome looking, even for you know, Cgi of that era. It looks pretty awesome. And they're spinning around, flying around, they start flying through Deacon giving him their power. Yeah. So by this point, Karen has gotten back to Blade. She's opened the chamber up and she's like, you know, feet on me, like get your power back. So Blade ends up, you know, feeding on her, and by this point, Frost has completely transitioned into Lemagra. Well there's a great part where somebody goes Frost, he goes not not anymore. Yeah. So uh and of course, naturally with Blade being Blade, he has to shout Frost's name several times as he's trying to get to him. I kept imagining that, like he's like punching of Frost, punching guy Frost, punching guy Frost.

1:45:51 So the gets down to gets down to Frost, but at first Quinn has to come to him, which Quinn thinking that he can hit him with a knife and that's gonna do the thing, whereas Blade just takes a line and decapitates him to get his sunglasses back, as the techno music soars. Damn right, yeah, And once he puts the sunglasses on you're like, I it's time. So he starts laying waste of frostmen once again, and you know he's doing the sword tricks. Karen's also fighting Mercury upstairs, which he ends up having a really awesome kick and killing her ass. Yeah she does sticker and then kicked the kick it in deeper. Yeah yeah, so so yeah, Karen deals with Mercury, and eventually Frost and Blade have their face off, and Blade, apparently not realizing how powerful Frost is, goes to cut him in his arm, then cuts him at the waist and we see the blood reconnect and come back, and Blade has the turnaround of yeah.

1:46:41 He mouths mouths yeah, which when when I when I saw that, I was like, for real, yeah, And I want to say. All I can think of from Deacon is when he like like falls apart that sucks back together. It might be a virtuosity oh yea, which uh phenomenal I love. Yeah. So naturally, Blade is realizing what he has to do, so he sees that his injection his blood syringes are up there, so he throws the sword up. The sword does the little thing that the trap and kicks the rocks down. He catches them and just starts throwing them into Deacon as Deacon leaps up in the air, comes down, and Deacon has his own Gusher's moment as he just becomes a huge creature and then blows up. But right before he does that, my favorite line from Blade is some of the fuckers always trying to ice skate up hill.

1:47:29 Which I've heard that repeated for you know, for a joke so many times. Yeah, so Deacon fucking explodes, and you know that is the end of Deacon Frost. Blade and Karen leave the temple together, and then we cut to basically the epilogue, which is that Karen is like, you know, let's get back to the heigh out. We'll try the cure, and Blade's like, now I've still got work to do, leaves it or yeah, go. Well, we forgot to mention because it's so much happened to that little bit when she says like I have this cure that will hopefully work, she has to warn She's like, you won't be even a day walker anymore. You would just be a human. Yeah, and that's why he's saying, like, I've got more work to do. Yeah, you know, I can't I can't stop being a day walker because I've got to kill all these vampires. So we cut over to Moscow.

1:48:13 There's a man and a woman walking in a nice snowy a night in Moscow and he we see a vampire. I didn't notice. This is the first my notices the vampire symbol is on that building. Oh yeah, yeah yeah, so naturally. It's hard to see. Everything's blue, but it's red. Yeah, so it doesn't stick out at all. So the woman gets. Grabbed by the throat and the dude's vamping out, and that's when we hear Blade go, do I catch it a bad time? Comrade? And Blade starts charging in Russian? Yes? Is it in Russian? So they start charging each other, and that is nineteen ninety eight Blade. No, it's like some of those later like Stallone movies. It kicks ass to the point of being funny. Oh yeah, Like like at some point You're like, Wow, this guy's such a badass that I'm laughing, like Cobra Coke. There were multiple times where Stallone's so cool in that that it's funny. It's not even cool any it's hilarious. But I I love Blade. I've always loved Snipes. I felt that he's I think even with how popular he was, I think he was still underrated. Oh yeah, I think that even when he was the most sought after movie star, he was still underrated.

1:49:19 One of my favorite roles of his is like one of his big out break rolls is out Break, big breakout rolls, major league him is Willie May's Hayes. No, he's so, he's so good when he's subtle. But Blade, he just owned it, you know, down to the to the bone. Yeah. And I really was impressed because it had been a very long time since I saw Blade. I think I've only seen Blade one. I've seen two as well, but I don't think I saw Blade Trinity. And I keep hearing you know anything, So I mean we'll watch it something, Oh, yes, we will. So would you like to guess what the budget was on Blade? Uh? Forty five? Forty five on the nose the nose, no way, yeah, forty. For the record, I did not cheat. Yeah, I wouldn't if I had had knowledge. That was just guessed on the era and what they used to spend on blockbusters that weren't Terminator Too or or whatever. So and and also like Weirdly enough, the blockbusters that were somewhat of a surprise surprise, I mean, Blade was gonna be a big movie. Yeah, tended to not be one hundred million dollar movies. They tended to be still in that like safer target.

1:50:22 Yeah. Yeah, wow, I can't. Believe I nailed it so far forty five million on the nose opening weekend, which is August twenty third of ninety eight. It goes and makes seventeen million, grossing in US and Canada seventy million, and ends up grossing worldwide one hundred and thirty one million dollars. Wow. So it was a hit well, and it's important to keep in mind in this era too. It probably made you know, four million bookou on video well and pay per view. Yeah, that's something you know, people forget about. Yeah, there used to be. Do you ever You probably never ordered pay per view? Oh we didn't match Adams. No, no, no, no, we had we had to call the box in and we had to we had to. Wait till the time. Oh yeah, wow, Okay, I thought I thought. You were too you were too young that we saw patch Adams. I remember one of my. Favorite times they used to they introduced this thing later on before on demand became a thing where you would just pay and we'd give you twenty four hours of the channel that laded the movie. I saw Spice World so many times in a one twenty four hour period.

1:51:17 I just got switched into the channel and going out watch Spice Work. Did you did you ever? Have? You had the scrambled of guessing the scrambled at one point so you could actually like hear the movie, but like yeah. Say yeah, except for the one channel. Everybody went to that one, the one they didn't let the sound beyond it. No, they didn't let that one. So body counts eighty eight? Oh Wow. The shooting starts in February fifth of nineteen ninety seven, wraps June sixth, and now you say Hey, my birthday Hey. Shot in Long Beach, Los Angeles, California, London, England, Moscow, Russia, and Vancouver, Canada. Wow. Blade first appeared in the comic The Tomb of Dracula number ten, which was July of nineteen seventy three. In the comics, Blade's mother was a prostitute named Tara Brooks and was killed by Deacon Frost during Eric's birth. She never becomes a vampire.

1:52:01 Though well that's uh, at least that was always the convenience of this of the because I'm pretty sure Joker didn't kill No Batman's parents in the comics. Ever, in the. Original Marvel comic storyline, the character of Blade was English, not American. Ah. When David as Goyer first pitched the idea of doing a Blade movie, the executives a New Line felt there were only three actors who could possibly do the role, Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington, and Lawrence Fishburne. But in Goyer's mind, Snipes was always the perfect choice for the character of Blade. Yeah, I think Denzel, it wouldn't work well Denzel would You would have to change it because he can play a badass. But yes, he's always believable. I don't I don't know if I've seen him go big.

1:52:42 He goes big a little bit at the end of Ricochet, but that's really about it. I mean big, like like being Blade or because like even when he's the equalizer, he's still like you believe that he's a guy. And I mean as far as Laurence fishburn goesurn, Fishburne has the chop, I mean deep cover is a movie I cannot recommend enough if you want to see how good Fishburn can be. Yeah, I think that no, no offense to Fishburn. He's just not fit like that. Like he's a big, tall, tough guy. I just if Blade was was meant to be the agile, like super martial arts guy, it's just not not Fishburn. Yeah, that's all I mean. Like, if Blade were more like the Punisher, yeah, then I could see Fishburn. But but Blade is is he's so acrobatic, and Snipe's having his experience with martial arts, and yeah, Snipes is so clearly the one you.

1:53:36 Know who could have done it. But I mean it was probably not the right time. Mario van Peebles, I feel like people could do a good you know. I think in an alternate timeline where Blade only does fifty five million at the box office, yeah, and then gets a direct to video sequel, it's Van Peebles in like two thousand and one, and we'd be doing a podcast about like those peoples was are underrated? Pretty good, it'd be us pretty good. Jet Lee was offered the part of Deacon Frost opted to do Lethal Weapon four instead. Skeet Ulrich lobbied hard for the role of Deacon Frost, but eventually was turned down. Wow, ske would have done all right, He had done fine. Stephen Dorff modeled Frost on several other villains, especially Jack Nicholson's Joker in nineteen eighty nine Batman. There is that part way goes wait till they get a load of vampire me.

1:54:19 Chris Kossoftson's character Whistler, was created for Blade's cameo on Spider Man the Animated series in nineteen ninety four. He was liked so much by Marvel ceo that he was adopted into the Marvel universe. Wow. Yeah, so the Spider Man the cartoon is where he came from. Wow okay. Wesley Snipes was interested in doing a Blade movie adaptation of Black or excuse me, a movie adaptation of Black Panther comics. When he was offered the project, he said that he was unfamiliar with Blade comics, seeing more of a connection to the blaxplotation here is in the nineteen seventies. I just approached him as this really cool character where I'd get to do martial arts and wear a leather suit, he said. I mean, and he nailed it. Well, but I think that's what helped Blade so much, because in a time period where superhero movies were occasional hits. Yeah, you know, Batman was unusual. Superman was a thing until it wasn't so much, you know. Really, Spider Man was the first one to kind of break that mold after after only Batman was able to really make it happen in the nineties.

1:55:15 Oh yeah. So I think that Blade not being an outwardly superhero and more just an action movie, I think that actually helped a lot. And it's a testament to Snipes. Yeah, because no, I'm sure some people came into it going like I read the comic. Yeah, but like our buddy Jeff and that probably probably that's the only the one person. But so Snipes being able to look at that and be like, I'm a badass action star I can make I can make Blade awesome. Yeah he did, he did, No, he absolutely did. Wesley Snipes was a fan of Hong Kong Martial Arts films and wanted the film to have that kind of action, which I think they nailed pretty well. Yeah, I would say so. An updated the Vampire Lore, Stephen Norington and David S Goyer decided crosses wouldn't work against vampires, citing what if a vampire was Jewish, why would a cross work against him?

1:55:58 And then John Carpenter was like, hold my dollar. Bill. Karen was originally going to be played by a white actress, but Wesley Snipes encouraged them to cast a black actress for the role. Stephen Norenton and David A. Sgoyer called the scene between Karen and Curtis a melrose Place segment, placing a doll romantic segment in to law the audience into false sense of security. The studio wanted to cut the scene, but creators spot for it and it got the strongest reactions at test screenings. It's in and it stayed in. Here's my take real quick on Karen being black. Yeah, I think that the reason that I mean, aside from the actress is really good obviously, but I think the reason that works is it really helps her remind him and the audience of his mother. Yeah. Absolutely, a woman who was bitten and didn't want as far as he knew, didn't want to be a vampire, and then was lost to the world. I really feel like that that gave it that extra oom where she because she never she never felt like just a love interest. If actually barely felt like a love interest in a lot of ways.

1:57:01 And I like that because Blade is way single minded killing all vampires. And no, that's one of the charms of him is that he just that's what he does, what he does. I mean, that's what he does what he does. Well, when Karen first meets Whistler, Blade can be seen holding a map of New Orleans. This is not only implies the city they are in, it is an homage to the comic books. Many stories in the Blade series occur in New Orleans. Well, New Orleans was a popular place to set vampires a lot because of like the the combo of voodoo hoodoo culture and yeah, yeah, and Rice's books and the idea of like this, like and the the the combination of like the plantations with the zombies, because zombies, the original voodoo zombies were slaves. So there's a lot there that makes sense for ever. And also it's just those those big plantation mansions and swamps are just cool cemeteries that have the bodies above the ground. Yeah, and and new and New Orleans, downtown New Orleans, Like it's really cool looking. There's a lot to to to that.

1:58:00 Yeah, yeah, I mean, well, they've got a fucking vampire and red dead. Well, I mean well, and well they put in Noose Faratu basically, but yeah, yeah, it's it's all about that. And plus I mean, you know, it was New Orleans so good they put bad Lieutenant there. I love New Orleans. In the scene way where Blade is chased to the subway, the subway train passing by. All the passengers are cardboard cutouts with special effects man among them. That's funny. Yeah, okay. Stephen Norenton stated in the cause of Pearl's ob size was a creature creature gaining a cannibalistic lust for infants and children, as he loves to eat their hearts. Ew. Yeah, Pearl was so large that the set had to be built around him. It was about seven hundred pounds of latex skin that had to be moved from a forklift.

1:58:41 It took four people to perform, one at the head, one at each arm, one operating the feet. He's surrounded by the use of blood bags and debris, but originally they wanted dead children scattered around as well, seeing as Pearl was too big to move. Around easily and would need easy way. Gross. People don't think about enough what a massive change it was when silicone became easy to use makeup option. When everything was made out of latex, things were really heavy. Oh yeah, crazy heavy. Yeah, a great Many handheld shots were accomplished with a special anamorphic lens camera that also had single unit sound, only one of its kind in the world.

1:59:21 Single unit sound, that's what it says. I don't know what that means because they didn't record sound on film, and that's I mean, that was a thing that stopped in the sixties. Take it up at Charles IMDb. I you know, I will chuck, I'm coming. Blade spins and leaves onto a ledge. But it was a tricky move. They shot nearly ten tags, but each time his body bounced on the wall and he missed catching the thin ledge. They resolve the issue by having snipe stunt double stick the landing. I mean, that's what he's for. Yeah. The scene where Quinn attacks Karen in the hospital corridor features lots of screaming, but they knew something was wrong when Log started screaming too. During the tussle, he felt his face He fell face first onto the hard floor and completely dislodged his jaw. He had it broken in an accident years prior, and opening his mouth too wide and too fast caused it to unhinge. They were filming it in an abandoned hospital, but had to rush to a real one. But I've got this guy whose dresses a third degree burn victim, essentially naked, running in with his jaw hanging down. The room cleared out pretty fast.

2:00:18 Where was that? I mean, because I know they filmed, I'm assuming that the interiors are mostly Vancouver. That's I'm guessing. Yeah, wow, that's a hell of an afternose goes I it was La. You know, a lot of them be like, yeah, yeah, you're making a movie. But in vangcas over there probably like, oh dear, what's all this? Then Quinna originally had a much smaller rule, but Donald Log was so funny on set that his character was expanded and he was allowed to add lib a good portion of his dialogue, which you can tell if you yeah him. Oh yeah. While discussing the character Deacon Frost, Wesley Snipe described him as kind of a guy who ice skated uphill. Stephen Norington and David aes Gooyer loved the phrase so much they worked it into the film. Nice Wesley Snipes. Couldn't stop laughing at the scene where Blade tries to help a dying whistler while wiping his extremely bloody body with a small piece of gauze.

2:01:01 It is a little silly. David os Goyer explained in the DVD commentary that the scene where Karen touches Blade sword was originally longer, as she went on to discover a weird hybrid infant of some kind floating in a tank. It came with a jump scare, and Goyer said he thinks it would have scared the living shit out of the audiences, but new Line felt it was too horrible. The idea of them just having like a newborn in a tank, vampire or not, would be pretty weird. Yeah, I would say the scene where Karen and Deacon are talking about the cure for vampiism initially ran a bit longer and answered the question of how vampires would feed if everybody was turned into a vampire. They would keep some. Humans alive in a giant blood bags to harvest them. The bags can be seen in the doorway during the scene and later played an integral part in the plot of Blade Trinity, and also has an underlying plot structure for the movie Daybreakers from two thousand and nine, which I cannot recommend that movie enough and we all know you love David Baybreakers just says a great lore to it.

2:01:50 Stanley originally had a cameo that was ultimately cut from the film. He played one of the cops that came into the Blood Club during the aftermath to discover Quinn's body on fire. He was like, my, this club is full of blood. A deleted conversation from the script explained how Blade Sword originally belonged to Whistler, who himself was part of a long line of vampire hunters. Michael Morbius was used as the main antagonist in Blade two, but the idea was dropped when Marvel sold the character's rights to Artisan and Entertainment to produce a standalone Morbius film. The Vampire on the Rooftop and the alternate ending in Morbius is played by director Stephen Norington. Morbius eventually made his live action debut in Morbius twenty twenty two, played by Jared leto Wow. So Artisan bought the rights and didn't do anything do anything with it. Yeah, because Morbius was a big part of the Spider Man cartoon I watch, yes, and that's where I first saw Blade. Yeah, in that cartoon. Yeah.

2:02:38 The first got of the film was one hundred and forty minutes long and had a disastrous test screening with audiences and heavy edits. Reshoots were implemented, which delayed the release date more than half a year. The most significant change was the addition of the final sword fight between Blade and Deacon Frost, which did not exist in the original version of the movie. Oh wow, Yeah, Yeah, it needed that little punch show. It definitely did. The original ending had Frost becoming Lamagra and unleash the blood Tide, which watches over the city turns everyone it touches into vampires. The film ended with the vampires winning, having caused the vampire Apocalypse. It was set up for a proposed sequel where Blade and Karen would travel around, hitting and destroying vampire food storage areas. The filmmakers didn't know if there was going to be a sequel, so it was changed. That's a lot. That's a very down ending.

2:03:19 Yeah, the movie has a surprising amount of similarities with The Matrix nineteen ninety nine. Both feature a character who learns that really they live in a facade, it is in fact, invisibly controlled by an outside force. There is a small underground group of fighters battling the visible oppressors. The protagonist is dressed in a long trench coat, and the action leans heavily on martial arts. The hosta scene around an hour and twelve minutes even features a bullet dodging moment similar to the Matrix famous bullet time scenes. All these similarities are coincidental, though, since Blade was released a year before The Matrix, and The Matrix had been written, planned and storyboarded long before Blade was released. John Carpenter's They Live enters the Chat. Marvel only made twenty five thousand dollars from this film.

2:04:00 They were not in great shape in the nineties. No, I mean you can see that in the movie. The ambulance with the stan Lee Cambio proverbs is working for Marvel. Right, No, you're right, yeah. Wesley Snip's surprising his role as Blade twenty six years later, and Deadpool and Wolverine would pass Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for the longest tenured Marvel character in live action film series. Yeah. That makes yeah, man, Yeah, it makes sense. The success of the film, especially since it followed the success of this film, especially since it followed the derided Batman and Robin nineteen ninety seven, is often considered the beginning of the rise of the superhero genre to become dominant in mainstream film. What are your final thoughts on Blade nineteen ninety eight. Man, This one's tough because I don't know if it's an own it. It is for me, that's fine, No, No, I just don't know if it's an on it because it's awesome and fun and it's memorable, but a lot of that's nostalgic, yes, for me personally, So I mean, if you're nostalgic for the nineties action era, if you're in a for you know, really kind of prototypical superhero modern superhero movies, then it's definitely an own it. But I think in general, it's just like you should definitely see it once. Yeah, and it'd be worth paying to rent it for sure, because like, I don't know if I'm gonna run out and get the four K, but I thought the four K was incredible.

2:05:15 Yeah, I think so it's a buy it for me simply because it's a very trailblazing vampire film at the time, for not even just superhero movies, but also just the vampire genre in general. I think it still holds up immenseally. It's a lot of fun. Yes, it's got some dumb moments. I mean a lot of dumb moments, but it's just dumb fun though, dumb fun exactly, And I think in all honesty too, it is the perfect time capsule for not just not just the horror genre at that point, but also like that tail end of the nineties into the two thousands. This is exactly what we were going into. Yeah. I couldn't agree with that more. Yeah. So that is the final thoughts on Blade. We always like in the show with a couple of recommendations. I have two this week, starting with nineteen ninety eight, the same year as Blade, John Carpenter's Vampires currently on Netflix, Rentable on Prime and Fandango. Recovering from an ambush that killed his entire team, eventual vampire Slayer must retrieve an ancient Catholic relic that, should it be acquired by vampires, will allow them to walk in the Sunlight.

2:06:10 Yes, freaking fun movie. I love that movie. The second recommendation I'm gonna go with is a little more recent. Hanso On and Gretel witch Hunters from twenty thirteen, currently on Pluto TV, rentable on Prime Fandango. Brother and sister duo. Hanzo and Gretel are professional witch hunters who help innocent villagers. One day, they stumble upon a case that could hold the key to their past. This is as gory and violent as you can get. For a more I would say more recent, but it is almost ten years old now at this point. But I mean this is a hard another hard R horror superhero in horror film keep saying that term. What's your recommendation? Oh? Well, I had to think about this pretty hard because Dave always steals the better and more obvious recommendations. Sorry, not always, but often often so I often have to kind of go off the beaten path and think about the Yes.

2:07:00 Basically, oh, vibes of Jeff gold looms any, Yeah, that's might go to always. That's gonna be my joke always when you say vibes good good. It will encourage me not to use a zoomer slang. But I'm gonna go with a movie that attitude wise and energy wise makes me think of the time of Blade, and that's nineteen ninety five's Mortal Kombat, fair enough, which is why it was funny when you pointed out that I was playing in it. Yeah, because Mortal Kombat. It's it's silly, it's dark, it's action packed, it's very nineties. Yeah, it's a bit more antiquated than Blade in that way, but it also has trailblazing soundtrack. I mean, I know so many people that their first introduction to electronic music and industrial music, which a lot of people who are younger and be like, what are those Yeah, because now you know them is something totally different. But back in the day, there was electronic and industrial music. Now you have EDM and stuff like that, but that was what we called it back Oh yeah, you know, with Typo Negative, with KMFDM and stuff like that. I learned about those bands first from that soundtrack. Yeah, and became like a massive KMFDM fan my whole childhood. Thanks, I guess, nope, no such, but no, it's a great soundtrack for those who somehow might not know what Mortal Kombat is. It's three martial artists are forced to battle demonic adversaries in another dimension with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. And it's on HBO Max right now, and.

2:08:22 I will piggyback off that if you haven't seen the most recent Wortal Kombat, also a really good time. I really enjoyed it, and the sequel's finally coming. Yes it is. So do we have any emails this week? We might we do, but I want to remind you, guys, you can send us an email at do you even movie Pod at gmail dot com. That's do you Even movie Pod at gmail dot com. We love to hear from you, guys. We have two EMAILSKA this week. The first one is from Phil the subject line gross oh Man. Just heard your talk about together and I was wondering, what's the grossest movies you've ever seen? I just experienced Human Habachi and well I was grossed out. Also, have you seen Human Habachi? I thought it was a trip and a half film.

2:09:06 Human Hibachi I'm not familiar with, so I'm gonna look that up. I don't know that. One that always comes to my head is the movie that legitimately once almost made me nauseous. Is Peter Jackson's Brain Dead aka Dead Alive Really Dead Alive has some really gross yeah, when they're eating the ear the scene, I mean the some of those early Jackson like Bad Taste and Brain Dead aka Dead Alive are pretty heinous when it comes to like the content that is better in those movies and pretty gruesome with the effects they have. Yeah, No, I I agree with that. I I'm not a very squeamish person. I never have been very squeamish. But what makes me grossed out? I have a serious thing with cannibalism, Yes you do, And if it's depicted a certain way, it really bothers me. It really makes me sick. Also, funny enough, blood not blood drinking, blood sucking, So like when when blades like sucking on her next like, it literally makes me squirm. The idea of that makes me want to puke. A guy who you know, watched cannibal Holocaust while eating a hungry man dinner. I did with with a girl who also had a hungry man dinner, even though I told her like that's not for you, No, But so I don't I don't get you know, very easily gross out it's definitely more context and the way I feel. But as far as movies that are just gross,

2:10:36 I mean Society very gross Together Together had some gross stuff. I thought it was you know, it was great. This is this is kind of I mean not this is kind of a stretch, but like the two that come to mine are bring her back and talk to me. Not so much gross, but like the brutality of like the knife scene in Year. I think gross versus WinCE a little different, different, but yet you skip over the substance is fair. I mean, the substance is very gross, but by the end of. The substance you just feel like you understand all bodily fluids. Yeah. So, uh, the one that I will mention, I've only seen it one time. And there's one, Oh God, I can't I can't think about right now because it's just makee me knowest. I think it's called the Last House in the Woods. It was a part of that either the after dark horror fest films or it's it's around that same time. It may not be that specific, uh team or whatnot, but yeah, there's one that's like the Last House in the Woods. There is some really really gross stuff in that movie.

2:11:33 Sure. Well, and then there's stuff like Pink Flamingos is really gross because there's eating eating shacies. Yeah, so yeah, I mean there's there's a lot of gross out movies, but yeah, most of them don't get to me. I mean, Necromantic has some stuff that really and not just the animal killing. That one is pretty pretty freaking gross. Yeah, anything anything that involves like bodily fluids is pretty naw for me. Like the one I always think of is when they jerk off the dog and Van Wilder. What about your your love for those cat whatever? Oh Cat three, Cat. Three, Cat three, Cat Cat three, They're they're pretty gruesome. Those who don't know. Cat three is a specific era of Chinese Ish Hong Kong. Hong Kong Kong.

2:12:18 It's Hong Kong extreme rated movies like violence, sex, Like the one that always comes to mind is The un Ould Story, which which is very has a a has a huge thing with cannibalism, has a entirely uh has an entire scene of family getting butchered. I mean it's yeah, those movies are pretty extreme, but like those, those typically don't bother me too much, except for like the cannibal stuff. Like you mentioned, like especially when he's cooking when the two movies. But yeah, I mean. There's there's there's a limit that I have. But like I don't get grossed out very easily either, but like there's certain things that will get to me. But yeah, the first like I remember actually feeling nauseous during the the first time I watched Brain Dead, Like the climax made me a little notch. It's this is one that grossed me out and shocked me.

2:13:01 I almost forgot to mention this Beyond the Darkness by Joe Demonto. Yeah, from nineteen seventy nine. That is a disgusting movie and fantastic movie. It's because of the way human dismemberment is depicted is depicted. And also I want to honorable mention those later ful che movies Touch of Death or Touch of Death. Touch of Death. Yeah, that one's really disgusting anything they reuse a lot of that stuff. And Kat and the Brain, so Captain the Brain has some serious grossouts too. So thanks for that right before lunch, But thank you so much for writing in man. Yeah, oh that's awesome, And remember reminder, do you have a movie pod at gmail dot com.

2:13:43 This next one is from a buddy Patrick and the headline or subject is movie tip. I don't know how many people know this, but if you have a library card, you can use apps such as Hoopla or Canopy to stream movies. That's how I was able to watch Captain Ron for free. It would like to recommend Monster Island on shutter. I've heard I've heard of it. I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard it's fun. Yeah, I've heard good things about Monster Island. Thank you Patrick. And Hoopla. I've not used it, but I've licensed movies to Hoopla, and they do pay the filmmakers when you watch a free movie on Hooplay. So if you see one of my movies on there, it'll cost you nothing.

2:14:23 You should just watch it just for the hell of it. But no, that's a very good tip. A lot of people don't realize if you have a library card you can sign up for those and watch tons of free movies. And you can also get a bunch of audiobooks too. I actually I have that signed up. I forget the app for that, but I have that which they let me use the Digital Library card so I didn't have to go to the library. I just filled in a thing, so I was like, well that's just free then. So but those are our emails again. Do you have a movie pod at gmail dot com? We love to hear from you, guys. We'd love to hear what you think of movies, suggestions, what we've talked about before. 2:15:06 I you're gonna say it, whether I want you to or not. Yeah, Well, after so many jokes of you you know there's no rules that a dog can't play basketball? Why that joke all the time you do? Why why don't we just go ahead and dissect that movie with nineteen ninety seven's Airbud? Wow? And how many nineties movies have we done in a row? A lot? I'm getting a little it's getting a little wrisome. I mean, next the one after Earbud's not so there's that, so we got that. I'll believe you this time. But man, I haven't seen Airbud a long time. Well, and talk about timing. We just got the announcement that a meta Airbud sequel is coming out late. You didn't know about this, I may have heard about it. Oh about how a kid finds it finds a VHS of Airbud and then finds a dog that can actually start like playing basketball is the plot for this movie. Okay, Yeah, the return of Airbud I think is what it's called her something like that.

2:15:56 And Airbud's on Disney Plus, Disney. Plus Fawsome rentable on Private Fandango as well. And I may or may not be coming to the show having watched as of what's available right now, the entire Airbud cinematic universe. You better have because you promised it to me. I did, yeah, and now that promise is no. Oh god, dude, you have no idea. So all I will go through an entire history of what happens to Airbud later sequels, including his Children and the nine air Buddies movies that are available right now too. I yeah, so look forward to that while I've been hurting myself the last few weeks watching these movies. That is must listen podcasting, Peak podcasting. Yeah, they might just shut down the entire format after we After we do that, though there's no Caesar Weft, there were no more there were no more kingdoms to conquer.

2:16:44 And I will say I did mention it when I was going through is castling. But Chris Christofferson did play one of the one of the dogs in airbud Snow Buddies. Of course he did. Yeah that's too good. Yeah, well that's what you guys have two air quotes. Look forward to Yeah next week right here? Do you even movie? But now it's time for us to get out of here.
