Wheel of violence, weeping witnesses and a poll plunge: Høiby trial rocks the crown
Week four ends with the Høiby trial now firmly centered on the close-relationship abuse charge involving Nora Haukland. Police read extensive message exchanges and explain the “wheel of violence,” while witnesses describe frequent arguments, alleged control, and what they say Haukland told them during the relationship. A friend of both parties, Danby Choi, says he saw shouting but no physical violence, while other witnesses recount emotional disclosures and a confrontation that spilled into open conflict in court. Procedurally, detention continues past Monday, a restraining order is extended, and next week’s timetable expands as the case falls behind, with the Frogner complainant due to begin testimony mid-week. Separately, an NRK poll shows support for the monarchy dropping sharply in a month, with Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s approval nearly halving, even as King Harald, Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon remain strongly rated.

00 Ah Calorougus Shark Media, Hello and welcome to Crown and Controversy, Norway. I am your Palace Intrigue Coast Mark Francis. The fourth week of the trial of Marius borg Hoibi has drawn to a close and the proceedings have now moved firmly into the phase dealing with the charge of abuse in a close relationship involving his former girlfriend Norah Hauckland. Hoiby denies the most serious allegations and is presumed innocent and lesson until the court reaches a verdict. Friday began with a continued presentation of digital evidence. Police officer Minna bankroid Or read aloud from extensive messages exchanged between Hoibi and Helkland, material that the prosecution says illustrates what they describe as a cycle of tension, conflict and reconciliation often seen in violent relationships. Explaining the so called wheal of violence, Bankroyd told the court that much relationships can move through three repeating phases, a period of rising tension, acute conflict, and then what she called the honeymoon phase, when expressions of love and regret create hope that things will change. The messages themselves showed both conflict and reconciliation. In one exchange, after a night in which how Could accused Hoebi of being with a former partner, he wrote the next morning, I just want to say I'm sorry for being an idiot.
26 I regret what I did very much. I understand that you feel humiliated and small. That was never my intention. I love you and hope one day we can move past this. Earlier messages revealed how quickly the relationship intensified. Halcland wrote at the beginning of the relationship that she was afraid she would not be accepted by his family, telling him I have been scared, scared that your family thinks I am not good enough. In the same exchange, she also declared, now I am at the point where I truly love you, and I want to give this a real chance. The court was also shown a Snapchat video in which Heuchland first publicly alleged that she had been subjected to violence. The police confirmed that this video formed the basis for the original investigation into domestic abuse.
10 One of the most closely watched witnesses on Friday was television personality danby Choi, a friend of both parties. He told the court, I am a good friend of them both, and described the early period of the relationship as very much in love with little to criticize. He said that when the couple were apart, they sent messages to each other constantly, something he found extremely irritating. During a trip with friends, Choi confirmed that he witnessed frequent arguments, but said he did not see physical violence. They were very good at arguing, he told the court. The whole room becomes part of it. They shout, and it is quite shameless. Referring to the confrontation at the offices of the cultural magazine subject, he said, the answer is no. I saw no blows. I sought no violence beyond what looks like two people quarreling over a matchbox. At the same time, knowledge that Hoeby could be controlling, and said he told him so directly, urging him to allow Halkland the same freedom he had himself. Asked whether he believed she could have been afraid, Choi replied that he had not personally experienced that, but added that she had every reason to be afraid of Marius in a heated argument considering his size, Several witnesses described what they said they had been told by Hauckland during the relationship. A television director who worked with her during the reality series Goals of Oslo told the court that Auckland had broken down in tears on the trip to a Beezer and said that Hoibe had hit her. Influencer Anakin Jorgensen, who said she had been a close friend of both of them for many years,
40 gave one of the most emotional testimonies of the day. She described seeing messages that she called insanely ugly after Hauckland posted photographs of herself and told the court that her friend eventually collapsed in front of the group and said she did not have it good in the relationship and that he had hit her. Her testimony ended in open conflict the defendant. When Hoyby challenged her account of their past friendship, she responded from the witness stand, I do not understand that it is allowed to sit there and lie, before leaving the court room in tears. Another witness, influencer, Ida Braun, said she had seen a confrontation in which Halclan put her finger in Hoyby's nose to check for drug use, and he reacted by grabbing her hand and pushing her backwards. What has stayed with me is that it became such a big scene and that he took her so hard, she said, adding if it had been my boyfriend, that is not how you solved the conflict.
33 She stressed that giving evidence had been uncomfortable, saying afterward, sitting in the witness box was unpleasant. I hope I never have to do it again. The most important thing for me is that Nora is doing well. Members of Halclund's family also gave evidence. Her mother told the court that she had initially found Hoeby likable, but later noticed a change in her daughter. She became very withdrawn and did not seem so happy, she said, adding that it had been terrible to to hear her daughter's account of violence. Her stepfather described damage in both their home in Altar and the couple's apartments in Oslo, and said he had been told that Hoibe had taken a choke hold on her and kicked her. At the same time, the defenses continue to argue that the overall picture is becoming more balanced.
16 Defense counsel Ellen Holliger and Danaeus said, at the end of the day, we believe the total impression has been significantly even out compared with the first day of Norah Halcon's testimony, more ground and controversy in just a moment away from the witness box. They were also important procedural developments. Police confirmed that Hoibi will not be released from pre trial detention when the current custody period expires on Monday, and that the restraining order concerning the woman known in the media as the Frogner complainant has been extended for six months. Her lawyer, Meta Yvonne Larsen said the extension was requested by her clients because the last incident was very burdensome for her. The court also confirmed that the schedule for next week has been expanded because the cases running behind time. Proceedings will now continue on Monday, when three new witnesses will give evidence before the police resume the reading of the message material. On Wednesday, the Frogner complainant will begin her testimony, with Waby scheduled to respond later in the week. A psychiatric expert is expected to present an assessment on Friday. Meanwhile, a new opinion poll suggests the controversy surrounding Crown Princess Meta Marie is now having a measurable impact on public confidence in the Norwegian royal family. Figures published by NRK show support for the monarchy has fallen from seventy percent to sixty percent in the space of a single month. While a clear majority of Norwegians still back the institution, the drop represents one of the sharpest short term declines in recent years. The
49 poll also points to a significant fall in Metamorate's personal standing. Eighteen months ago, she scored seven point four out of ten in public approval. In the new survey, that figure has to up to three point seven, effectively harving her rating. The decline follows weeks of intense courage of her past contact with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and her subsequent public apology in which she said she should have examined his background more thoroughly. Despite the setback for the Crown Princess, the survey shows continued strong support for other senior members of the royal family. King Harold tops the list with a rating of nine point two, followed by Queen Sonia at eight six, Crown Prince Harken scores seven point nine, and Princess Ingrid Alexandra at seven point three, indicating still solid confidence in the line of succession. Even with the sharp fall, Metamrie is not the least popular royal.
44 That position remains with Princess Martin Luise, who records a score of three point one. Taken together, the numbers suggests the monarchy itself retains majority support, but the reputational damage from recent controversies is being felt most strongly at an individual level and particularly by the future queen.
