Høiby Admits Slap And Chokehold: “I Was Completely Beside Myself,” Court Told

The fifth week of the trial of Marius Borg Høiby ended with dramatic testimony about the violent confrontation on August 4, 2024 — the incident that triggered the police investigation and the sweeping indictment now before the Oslo court.

Taking the stand, Høiby disputed parts of the Frogner woman’s account but admitted key elements of the fight. “I remember that I slapped her,” he told the court. “And I remember that I took her by the throat.” He acknowledged shouting insults, smashing items in the apartment and sending a threatening message to a man he believed she had been with.

The court also heard that Høiby made at least 172 calls to the woman despite a restraining order and even sent a Valentine’s Day letter through a friend while the trial was already underway. He blamed alcohol and cocaine for some of the night’s events, telling the court that recordings from the confrontation made him sound “completely rabid.”

By the end of the week the court had worked through much of the timeline involving the Frogner woman — testimony prosecutors say illustrates a pattern of escalating conflict, violence and harassment.

0:03 Calaruga Shark Media that hello and welcome to Crown and Controversy Norway. I'm your palace, intrigued host Mark Francis. The fifth week of the trial of Marius Borg Weiby concluded in Oslo District Court on Friday, with the defendant continuing his testimony about the turbulent relationship with the woman widely referred to in Norwegian media as the Frogner Woman. Much of the day focused on the violent episode on August fourth, twenty twenty four, the incident that first brought police into the case and ultimately led to the sprawling indictment now before the court. Weeby began the morning by disrupting parts of the woman's testimony from earlier in the week. Once again, we've used AI for the translations here and at some points interpolated some of the tenses. Weiby told the court the explanation I heard yesterday, I do not recognize myself in it. I feel it was an attempt to portray domestic violence. He acknowledged that the relationship had been unstable for some time. According to his account, arguments between the two were often driven by accusations of infidelity and substance abuse.

1:15 The effect that led to the August incident, he said, began with jealousy. He told the court that he saw a social media post from the woman showing her on a boat trip with friends. In the image, he believed he could see another man. The story was deleted after three or four minutes, and then another one was posted without the guy, he said, and then I wondered what was that. By the time the two spoke again, tensions had already escalated. During one argument, he admitted shouting an insult at her. He told the court, I probably shouted something like you on faithful effing haare. It is a terrible thing to call someone. When I think back on it, that is not a word I want to be associated with. The confrontation that followed on the night of August fourth was central to Friday's testimony. Weybe acknowledged that violence occurred inside the word woman's apartment on Frogner. I remember that I slapped her. I screamed and said things that are not okay to say. I was completely beside myself. He also admitted taking her by the throat. I remember that I took her by the throat. She had explained that I put all my weight on her, but I do not believe that I did. When the judge asked whether the grip could have prevented her from breathing, Hoyby replied that he did not know, but said he believed her account.

2:27 I do not know if she could breathe or not, but I believe her when she says she could not. He told the court that during the confrontation, he threw objects around the apartment and smashed items in anger. Among the destruction described in court were a shattered mirror, a damaged phone, and a knife that ended up lodged in a wall. The violence was driven, he said, by the belief that the woman had been with another man. At one point, he sent a threatening message to that man on Instagram. I wrote that he was a neffing dead man, Hoeby admitted. Asked whether he understood that the message could be perceived as a threat, he replied, yes, as a threat, sure, but I do not think he believed he was actually going to be killed. Weeby also told the court that he was heavily intoxicated that night. He described drinking large quantities of alcohol and later taking cocaine. In recordings played Earlier in the trial, his voice can be heard shouting during an argument with the woman on the street. Later that night. Listening to the recordings, Weeby told the court, I sound completely rabid. I do not think I have ever been so sad in my life. One of the most sensitive parts of Friday's testimony concerned the hours before his first arrest. Weeby told the court that his mother, Crown Princess Madame Marie, called him to warn that police had contacted the family. He said that shortly afterward, he received a call from a police officer. He said, Hi, Marius, how are you today, Webby told the court, I answered that I'm not doing very well. The officer then informed him that police were coming to arrest him. He said, we are a small group from the Oslo Police District

3:57 and we are coming to pick you up to arrest you. According to Hoyby, his mother then came down to his apartment. He described her telling him to clean himself up before meeting officers. She said, jump in the shower, put on some clothes that don't smell like alcohol, or at least that was the intention, he said. She then drove him to the gate at Skaugum so he could meet the police nearby. After getting into the police car, he handed officers a broken phone without a simcard. I have, as we know, smashed quite a few phones. I did not want them to have my phone. It was nothing worse than that. Later in the day, Hoeby acknowledged additional violations of the restraining order imposed after the August incident. He admitted repeatedly contacting the woman, including at least one hundred and seventy two calls in the weeks following the violence.

4:44 I panicked. I called at least one hundred seventy two times, probably more, and sent a lot of messages. He also admitted breaking the restraining order during the period leading up to the trial. In one striking moment, he acknowledged that contact continued even after the court proceedings had already begun. Now there will be another admission of a breach of the restraining order. Through a friend. I sent her a letter on Valentine's Day. That letter, he said, was delivered on February fourteenth. During the ongoing trial, the defendants said he regretted many of the actions described in court. It was incredibly stupid. It should never have happened. No one deserves that more crown and controversy in just a moment.

5:26 Friday's testimony also provided more background about the relationship between Marius Borg Hoeby and the Frogner woman. In court, Hoby described the relationship as unstable and emotionally intense, saying it was marked by repeated break ups, accusations of infidelity, and substance use. At one point, he characterized the relationship as being shaped by lies, infidelity, drugs, and insecurity. The court revisited an incident from late twenty twenty three during a trip to Berlin, where Hoyby is accused of filming intimate images of the woman without her consent. He admitted responsibility for one of the incidents, telling the court simply, I did it. It should never have happened. However, he denied responsibility for two other alleged incidents involving similar recordings. Another episode discussed in court involved the destruction of the woman's laptop during an argument earlier in twenty twenty four. Weaby acknowledged breaking the computer, explaining that he snapped in half during a heated dispute. According to his testimony, the argument began after the woman said she planned to book a flight to visit an ex boyfriend, something he said left him angry and upset. The court also examined an incident at the Oslo nightclub Michael's. Weaby acknowledged that alcohol and drug use played a role in the confrontation there. The woman had previously testified that he grabbed her and shouted in her face, before knocking items off a table and tearing off his shirt. Weaby told the court that her description of the episode sounded broadly accurate, adding that alcohol had been a major factor that night. The relationship between

6:58 the too often appear to swing between reconciliation and separation. Weaby told the court that breakups happened frequently. Reflecting on one of those moments, he said that if he had behaved as badly as described, it would make sense that she had ended the relationship at that point. At another stage of the testimony, the court heard about a polygraph test that Hoyby voluntarily took after accusations of infidelity. The woman had previously testified that he suggested taking the test himself, she arranged and paid for it, telling the court it cost about eight thousand krona. The unusual step was presented in court as an example of how far the couple sometimes went in trying to resolve disputes. Weyby also addressed allegations that he threatened to harm himself during the period when he was repeatedly attempting to contact the woman despite her restraining order. He denied one claim that he told a friend he would hurt himself if he could not speak with her, calling that allegation completely incorrect. Throughout the day, Hoiby frequently told the court that he struggled to remember the exact sequence of events and several of the incidents being discussed. He attributed some of those memory gaps to heavy alcohol use and drug use at the time. Even so, he acknowledged that many of the actions described in court were wrong. At several points during the testimony, he said the behavior was unacceptable and should never have happened. By the end of the week, the court had moved through a large portion of the testimony concerning the Frogner woman and the series of incidents prosecutors say illustrate a pattern of escalating conflict, violence, and harassment. When the trial resumes,

8:30 the court is expected to continue working through that timeline before moving deeper into the remaining charges in the case, including the most serious allegations that Hoybe continues to deny. As the week ended, the court had not yet confirmed whether proceedings will resume immediately on Monday. In earlier weeks of the trial, the court has occasionally taken mondays off before continuing with testimony later in the week. If the court does reconvene Monday, Hoyby is expected to continue answering questions about the incidents involving the front a woman and the surrounding timeline. For now, the most dramatic moment of the week remains Hoyby's own admission from the witness stand. I remember that I slapped her, he told the court.

9:10 And I remember that I took her by the throat. And there you have it. If you'd like to email us addresses the Palace Intry at gmail dot com, please follow us on Spotify, Apple or the app of your choice. I'm Mark Francis my thanks to John McDermott. This is Crown and Controversy Norway
