Nat 20 & Unwind: The Toymaker's Regret
On this episode of Nat 20 & Unwind, the cast takes a breath after an emotionally heavy holiday session of Crit Happens. We talk through the big roleplay moments, the tough choices that didn’t come down to dice, and how it felt to navigate a story where listening mattered just as much as action. From character reactions to behind the scenes table dynamics, this conversation reflects on what happens when a game slows down and lets the story breathe.
00 I think that Spencer also was maybe a tad bit like we done that, I hope because I was done about. I was ready to go back inside and burn the place down. 40 minutes ago. Well, and here's the thing and also what happened in that 20 and unwind here on Spotify and Facebook. Here's the thing. I legitimately had three separate endings for this for this session and you guys chose the I, I, I'm calling it a what's the word I'm looking for where you do something against people's will. I gave them the opportunity to walk out of their own free will. I was not dragging them out of there, thank you very much. Right, but you also were persuading them to do so, where normally and.
50 If there. And honestly, I really need to commend you guys, especially Jesse. There was a whole fourth act that was combat, legendary actions, mythic actions, layer actions. With Jerick. I have a whole freaking. Stat. I mean, I would have rather done that at this point, I'm sorry. No. And so and so, like I said, there were three endings to that and one of them was if you started destroying shit in the workshop, it wasn't going to go very well for you guys because Gelvin is ACR 12. He is so.
35 How much HP did he have? He has 247 hit points, but he also has lots of traits that make you skip your turn and consider, you know, there's a lot of things that he can do to. I have lots of traits that make him skip living. Well, it's a good thing I didn't smash the toy shop like I was originally planning, Paul Yeah, there was no, there was no smash it with a hammer. Was I the only one that wasn't thinking of smashing everything in the toy shop or and?
16 That's shocking because usually you're the first one. To just. Like I need to destroy shit. I said Spencer a Dion, and I was like, I kind of want to burn everything down. He's like, please don't. Sounds like everyone would have been on board for that. Yeah, thanks. And it wouldn't have gone well evacuated. And then burned it down. But yeah, great job again. We'll play heavy episode tonight. You all did very well considering your morality, if you will. The morality in this one went a little bit on the immoral side, I would say, because a lot of these people did not want to leave so. And yeah, I mean, the Tommy girl himself was not in. Like, I haven't written on every single step block for all of these creatures that you would have combated to that had you done anything.
17 It doesn't it would it wouldn't have killed you. It never would have killed you. It always chose it always chooses positioning over damage. You know, it's it's not made. This wasn't necessarily an episode to, you know, fireball and burns yet and stuff like that. And that's, that's what I was trying to say to you guys in our in our chats and discord and messenger like, hey, this is going to be a room playing heavy episode this time. It's like, it's like you can burn stuff down if you want, but don't. Yeah. So a nice holiday episode to cap things off.
01 Here's the thing, I don't necessarily have any plans for these characters outside of this. So you can do what your hearts wish for it. You're not necessarily going to receive any rewards for this. I guess I will however, for your main characters, give you all an inspiration for playing out this holiday. We'll call it A2 shot. So yeah, I mean, what was that one, Sleepy? One inspiration. Yeah, yeah, we'll call it one inspiration because again, this these characters don't really live in in any sort of realm or possibility of Verelios itself. This was to say two shot to say, hey, Merry Christmas, happy new. Year, live in our hearts.
57 Yes, and I mean, but here's the theory. If if we get to next year and we're all still playing together, hell, I'm happy to revisit these characters at. That point, Alaska will be far moldy by then, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You might have to open a new character. You'll have to work mold 10 or something. Yes, Lord crumbled to death. Lord, still, it kind of needs just a different campaign. She was the one I pulled out from a different. 10, gotcha. OK. Obviously, yeah. So she probably would not revisit. Yeah, yeah, like I said. But she would be fun to play in a different. Yeah, absolutely. The next Christmas one I'm playing an oath breaker paladin that used to have a connection to to Saint Nick but then broke his oath and now he's out for to ruin Christmas and he goes by the pseudo name Krampus. Krampus Yeah, I knew.
54 I knew it was coming. I want to oh, oh, I was thinking about this afterwards. I want to play a fairy. There you go. There you. Go. I want to play a Sugar Plum fairy. Yeah. Yep, I'll be a. Bar. I dance. I. Do the dance. I am the Lord of the dance. Jesus. All right, that's going to be a short episode. We're all beat. So thank you so much for listening that 20 and on one. We'll be back next week with the, I believe we're concluding the next two episodes of UNIT the next couple weeks and then we'll be back at the main campaign.
