Nat 20 and Unwind (Echoes of the Forgotten Self)

Join us as we step back from the chaos of the Echofields and into Nat 20 & Unwind, our post-session lounge where the dice stop rolling and the reflections sink in. We recap the Syndicate’s harrowing journey through the Vault of Forgotten Names, share thoughts on the memories lost and truths uncovered, and reflect on how the mission scarred and strengthened our agents. High Command delivers rewards, pay, and a new Syndicate relic to mark their survival — but as always, the Wastes never let anyone walk away unchanged.

00 Welcome to Nat 20 and unwind here on Spotify, iTunes, player.fmpoddirectory.com, sticker.com, TuneIn Radio, and iheartradio.com. Commendations are in order to use Nebulon, Savara, and Mimi for completion of the mission on the prior episode of Crit Happens, Echoes of the Forgotten Self. So again, as always, we will go through a few reflection questions, if you will, and these kind of carry just storyline plots. So again, spoiler alert, if you haven't listened to the prior episode, if crit happens, please go watch that now and I'll cut.

46 This out here all right see you guys later then. Hi. OK, bye. I was told I have to go listen to. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So the vault required offerings of memory, truth, and even lies. Which of these choices do you think weighed heaviest on you? And. And would you offer it again? And we'll start with Mimi. Maybe it's always thought of herself to be, dare I say, higher and like just an animal. But.

32 Sometimes it's OK to let it out. OK. Like that she actually finally came to the terms like, hey, I actually ate that guy and several other people kind of crazy. That's why blood and stuff has never really faced her. Hints of that show up a lot. I was thinking not. Very fazed by death or by the passing of people. And she's like, you guys killed those guys. She's like, but can the bodies be repurposed for, I don't know, soup?

16 Nobody bad and I but. You are a cat like and a big one so. Yeah, that is because she had to. Survive off of. Flesh so. Yeah, you know, it's it's clear that the the back story of Mimi with the circus and effectively being mishandled is something that'll drive characters moving forward, especially with memory. Memory in the world of Aurelius is a very powerful tool and something that can be wielded.

58 You know, if if the right study in the right memory are are are used. Savara, what about you? Or the can you repeat the original prompt please? Yeah, yeah. So again, the vault required offerings of memory, truth, and even lies. Which of these choices, which of your choices, weighed heaviest on you? And what would you and would you offer it again? Well she didn't really offer memories and that was on purpose because a lot of her memories are associated with her weapons and like the one that came immediately to mind had to do with her how her warhammer got named and she would not like that.

57 She just wasn't willing and her name is equally as important to her, but honestly not as much. But. Still unwilling to like, be lied about what, or like forget or whatever. So really, the thought of losing her memories associated with the creation of her weapons was not something she was willing to give up. And because they're so heavily tied in her background, yeah. Right. And I mean that even ties to the truth of who Savara is to be in general anyway. So while you didn't speak a memory, you know, to necessarily assist you, you internalized a lot of the truth about yourselves and the naming of your weapons and the the power that that holds in itself, the power of a name effectively.

52 So, yeah, I mean, internalizing some of that stuff and holding that stuff dear as well, It's just as powerful. And Invirelius Zebulon, the newest member of the party. I mean, hell of a way to be feet to the fire. Absolutely happy to get in the thick of it and it went well. That was cool. I happened to have recent, not super recently, but like a little over a year ago, lost a cat that I had for like 20 years. So the cat thing. Was somewhat meaningful. And then she gave me two crits in a row. Yeah. So that was beautiful.

35 Yeah, that's that's and. Yeah, I was trying to think of like, pretty much the whole time. I was trying to think of like, what is a meaningful memory I could give up for a guy who doesn't have a lot yet. But I think people are what's important to Zebulon, like the people around him. And so. So yeah, childhood best friend seemed like something meaningful that also wouldn't like, completely ruin who I am as a person. Yeah, it it's almost a a clarity, almost a clean edge that a clean edge of loss that almost sharpens your will a little bit when it comes to the, you know, that memory. So, and Mimi for you, I mean, the, the vault showed you that you're not just the rage, you're not just the fury. You know, you still have a pulse in your axe. You have a faint echo of approval from the vault itself that even when you're stripped of rage, you still endure. And you know, Savara, you know, even though you did not speak a single memory, you know, you've, you made those memories as well, especially with Mimi and Savara, the two of you, just the moment you left together across the collapsing tiles, you know, striding and sync almost made a bond of, of, of glass memory itself.

58 So a couple of things to hand out here. Mimi once before your once before your next long rest, You may add one D6 to a weapon damage role after seeing the result as a form of you know that you can endure without your rage and your fury. You still hold those things to be valued, but you're not just that, Zebulon. Once before your next long rest, you may treat You may treat a failed saving throw as if you rolled A10 on the die.

44 Again. That's just the lasting memory of the friend, that clarity that brings. It allows you once before your next long rest, to use that as a final whisper, a wisp of a memory before it's gone completely. OK, so once ever in the next day. Once before your next long rest? Yes. Yes. Is there a negative to losing this memory? No, no, there there's the The memory is effectively 99% gone, but that last 1% will give you that a small boon to use before your next long rest. And finally, all of you, the next time any of you roll and attack and you are within 15 feet of the other. So for instance, Zebulon, if you stand before meeting your Savara and or any of those combinations, you get to roll that attack with advantage, sharing that that bond that was etched with the hop behind the hippie ho and as we hop along the way.

06 You like that? Just just just prancing and skipping along with a lollipop. So is that a permanent? That is a one time. Use OK one time use and then we have to be next to each other. Correct. I should say one or the other. It doesn't necessarily have to be all three of you together. So if next time say me was not here, if if Zebulon and Savara are here, you guys. Yeah, So. OK, and then finally the debrief with the syndicate. Just a mission summary.

46 Agents entered the echo fields under directive to locate and explore the Vault of Forgotten Names. Despite hostile manifestations, all operatives survived and successfully breached the vault. The chamber was fed residents well beyond requirement and no Paradox contamination was recorded. Each agent suffered personal scars. Nothing physical and returned intact to syndicate lines. The mission is recorded as a high completion with additional accommodations for bravery and ingenuity issued to each operative. 250 gold Hey.

28 Each agent also is granted 1 syndicate favor, which is redeemable for additional supplies and the information from syndicate operatives or specialized aid from the syndicate. On SDM. Perfect. I'm putting this in my journal. In the journal. In the journal. I forget otherwise. Cool. And that is the full completion of tonight's session. Echoes of the Forgotten Self again, congratulations to you 3.

08 Goddamn, it was I we were supposed to have five players tonight. When it was, I heard it was going to go down to three, I was like, because I'll tell you, I mean, I can tell you at this point what the outright failure cost was now that you guys have completed the mission. So on failure, after either three fails on the checks that you completed or if time expired, a fractured voice offers salvation. Give us what you are. Trade memory for life. One thing forever lost. And each of you would have had to surrender a significant personal memory at the DM's discretion.

58 And I'm so glad Kenzie's no longer on this call. Because Mimi, the cost of you surviving that would have been your friendship with Castilla. You would have permanently lost the memory. You would have also permanently lost a proficiency spell or feature until it was retrained or a defining narrative detail. Also, the syndicate records of all of your characters would blur and effectively nobody that you've come in contact with so far, MPC wise, would have either remembered you or remembered you in a wrong way.

45 So I'm just saying, yeah, but it was very, it was very harsh risk tonight because it does say if all refuse permanent erasure. Yeah. Yeah, you would have been erased. So wow, Yeah. Dang Yikes. What is? That. Yeah, so did it, you guys. You did it. You didn't get it right. You didn't die. We weren't Thanos snapped or whatever happened with that. Yeah, pretty much all right. So that's going to do it from that 20 and unwind here on Spotify player dot FM Spotify and I did.

26 I'm so tired. I'm not going to remember the list anymore. Honestly, Spencer doing that would have been so evil. I would have. I know this one, this one I was because and actually that that last part didn't exist. So like I told you guys before we started recording for the happens for last week or last episode, the the the actual failure option was just straight out erased. There was no what I'll call a fail forward. There was no fail forward there. There was you fail, you're dead, you're erased. Worse. Nobody remembers you. Yeah. I I've had that happen before. It wasn't dead, but we were forgotten by everybody.

09 In the. Normal realm, it's not easy. Yeah, so that'll do it for Nat 20 and unwind here tonight. Thank you all for listening so much. We'll see you next episode for another episode of Cred Happens. So for everybody here at the P3 Podcast Network, I am Spencer Hart. We'll see you next time.
