Next on Cocktails and TableTalk: What is Manliness?
How does one define manliness? What are the virtues of being a man today?
Merriam-Webster defines manliness as the quality or state of being manly (as by having qualities such as strength or virility that are traditionally associated with a man)
The English word “virtue” comes from the Latin word virtus, which meant manliness or masculine strength. The Romans believed that to be manly, a man had to cultivate virtues like courage, temperance, and industry.
