I’ve been thinking a lot about the conversations I’ve had in the past with people who work inside, outside, or who are new to the association industry.

Every association has a mission statement and usually they have members, at least some members, who feel very deeply tied to the value of the mission.

But do the professionals working for that association understand the impact or role they have from within that organization?

Recently I interviewed Dr. Aimee Sanchez for Association Chat. Dr. Sanchez is a neuropsychologist and coach. We talked about the power of purpose.

Because I worked directly for several associations in membership and marketing and became very involved in volunteering for ASAE over the years, reviewing and writing for several of their publications, chairing their component relations section council, and along the way becoming a consultant working for many other associations, I feel like I am in a unique position to understand many different viewpoints.

While hosting weekly conversations in the association industry for over 10 years, first with the DelCor Social Media Sweet Spot and then for Association Chat, I’ve certainly heard plenty of them.

I’m curious to hear yours.

Does working with an association really resonate with you? Are you driven more by the role you play than by the mission of the organization? What have you learned or come to understand about working for an association over the span of your career?

I’d love to hear your answers!

Associations can change the world and so can you. Do you think that is true? Please share your thoughts!
