On Thursday, November 14, 2019, Gizmodo posted an article about the acquisition of the non-profit that oversees the .ORG. On Friday, November 15th, Association Chat wrote about it in an article titled, "The .ORG Just Changed Ownership – What Does This Mean for Associations?"

In short, this acquisition spells serious trouble for all nonprofits.

Since that time, the nonprofit world has been spreading the word and NTEN, the membership organization of nonprofit technology professionals, has stepped up to address the impact and insist on change.

On Friday, November 22nd, NTEN submitted an official letter to the Internet Society (co-signed by over 20 nonprofits, including ASAE) with the opening sentence, "We urge you to stop the sale of the Public Interest Registry (PIR) to Ethos Capital." [Read the entire letter on NTEN's website.]

For this episode of Association Chat, I talk with NTEN's CEO about the .ORG debacle, the letter, and the #SaveDotOrg Campaign.

What does this acquisition mean for associations?
Why should nonprofits be worried?
What are the next steps for nonprofit leaders?
What happens if the letter goes unacknowledged?
What would an ideal outcome be?

We discuss all this and more.
