00 Ah Calarucas Shock Media. I'm Olivia and today on five Minutes of Gratitude, we're exploring the lessons, love and wisdom found in our kitchens. And before we begin, I want to mention that if you'd like to receive five minutes of Gratitude without commercials, there's a link in the show notes to tell you how to do that. The kitchen has always been more than just a room. It's the heart of the home, a classroom, a laboratory of love. This morning, as I needed bread dough, I thought about all the wisdom that's been passed down through kitchen windows and over simmering pots. My grandmother used to say, a watched pot never boils, but an unwatched pot always boils over.
53 It wasn't just about cooking. It was her way of teaching patients and presents. She'd stand at the stove, wooden spoon in hand, sharing stories and life lessons while stirring Sunday gravy that would cook for hours. There's something profound about the way cooking teaches us about life. How sometimes you need to trust your instincts rather than follow the recipe, exactly how mistakes can lead to wonderful discoveries, like the time my sister's chocolate cake fell flat but became everyone's favorite brownie recipe. How the simplest ingredients treated with care and attention can become something extraordinary. I've learned more about generosity and kitchens than anywhere else. The way my neighbor Elena always makes extra just in case someone stops by.
40 How my friend Mike's mother insisted on sending everyone home with leftovers, saying food is love made visible, the unspoken understanding that when someone's grieving or celebrating or struggling, we show up with casse roles and cookies. Kitchens teach us about tradition and innovation. Last week, I watched my aunt teach my niece how to make purogi using our family's recipe pass down through four generations. But when my niece suggested adding a new filling combination, my aunt's eyes lit up with excitement. That's how traditions stay alive, she said, by growing with each generation. Even kitchen disasters hold wisdom.
22 The burned cookies that teach us about timing and attention, the fallen souflet that reminds us some things can't be rushed the two spicy chili that shows us the importance of moderation. Every mistake is just another lesson, another story to share and laugh about later. These days, I find myself collecting kitchen wisdom from everywhere. The food truck owner who taught me about balancing flavors in life. My neighbour's ninety year old mother who still insists on seasoning her cast iron pan after each use, a meditation on caring for the things that care for us. The children in my life who remind me that sometimes the best recipe is the one that makes the biggest mess more in a moment. Today's affirmation is I find wisdom and joy in life's simple moments. Let's sit with these words for a moment. The kitchen reminds us that the most profound lessons often come wrapped in the most ordinary packages. Whether we're following a treasured family recipe or creating something entirely new, each moment in the kitchen is an opportunity to practice patience, creativity, and love. Remember, wisdom doesn't always come in grand revelations.
44 Sometimes it's found in the steam rising from a cup of tea, the rhythm of chopping vegetables, or the quiet satisfaction of feeding those we love. These are the moments that nourish not just our bodies, but our souls. Let's say our affirmation to other one more time. I find wisdom and joy in life's simple moments. Thank you for joining me today. Until next time, may your kitchen be filled with warmth, wisdom, and gratitude.
